You can feel how hard they both work.... magnificent dancing by Ms. Guillem, she fills the movement so well, cheating nothing. An artist/athlete of the highest caliber.
Sometimes i love to watch rehearsals, classes More than the stage performance, it Is a look behind the finished work, all the hard work, how human they áre. I feel like being there with them. On the stage They go beyond human. This Is a great video! It Is also very nice with just a piano. Thank you!
I always think of this as, “Boxers, in your corners! Aaaaaand, POSE!!!” EVERY time they take off running, that jumps into my mind, unbidden. There aren’t many dancers I will watch in Don Quixote bc some of it is so silly that I can’t take it seriously, but, for these dancers, I’ll even watch them _rehearse!!_

I started watching ballet about four years ago after seeing Robert Fairchild in An American in Paris on Broadway. I have seen 3 live ballets since then. I watch a lot of Royal Ballet and NYCB online. I work as an Oncology nurse, have a son with drug and mental health issues, and of course there is the constant drone of bad news and political hysteria. Ballet is a respite. ❤️
@@karenkaren3189 what a great Binge, ballet, soaking in all the beauty. Sometimes i cannot get enough of this most beautiful live art. Yes, for me Also a great respite AND its beauty sustains me, renews, refreshes, nourishes the soul from the harsh realities of life.
It might not be the best piano... but the L.Minkus music Is lovely, it gives a different touch to this wonderful PDD than the orchestra AND the artists are wonderful. Love Sylvie. One of the best ballerinas ever.
Gymnastics is a very respectable sport and proffesion. But a gymnast can not be compared to the amount of artistry that a prima ballerina like Sylvie Guillem posess
@@lanakapoor817 she is more a "mental" dancer, that's why she is so good in modern ballet, the Russian school is more "romantic" but sometimes a little too much, it can be conservative. In the "Bolero" I've found Maia Plissetskaia better than Sylvie Guillem because she had so much temper and expressiveness, even if I don't like to confess. Sylvie Guillem is more intellectual, her technique and legs are flawless.
As for her technique and her legs.. It is fabulous!!! Beyond any words!!! And i agree with you, that she is more"mental".. But i prefer Russian Ballet School when dancing classical Ballet. Thanks for your answer!

she is such a great artist, beautiful, perfect body. She has "it" all as a ballerina. I love this rehearsal with the piano.

Guillem has some nice little flourishes when compared to the Russian style... the French temperament?
Is this a Nureyev restaging? The choreography is rather odd. Not necessarily in a bad way, it just takes a bit of getting used to.
It's part the original Petipa, actually 2/3 or so, with some sexy, romantic stuff. I kind of love it!
