i watched her perform bolero and It made me tear up EVEN though i watched it here on youtube. i never understood the greatness of bolero until i watched her perform.
I hesitate to comment here because I just cannot find the words to express my admiration and, especially, my appreciation of this incredible dancer. In ballet, you are told that your body and all your movements are mere instruments of the director, but Sylvie Guillem brings her dancing to the level of a true artist, because we feel and see her personality on stage. And yes, it is essential be able to say NON, and say it often. As Steve Jobs (Apple) used to say, for each time we say yes to a new idea, we say NO a thousand times!
No one has ever come close to her artistry and ability. The only artist I've ever watched where I felt the emotion. She brought out the best in her partner's as well. They had to level up or just be props.
i had the chance to work with her once. with Forsythe. I even got to create a duet with her. her partner was not there so we danced together. at one point she was on my knee and trying to figure out what to do next and i thought HOLY SHIT Sylvie is on my knee :-) as well as being a perfectionist she is very very very funny. i adore her
She is quite simply extraordinary. For those lucky ones who will be in Athens during Christmas time, they will have a rare opportunity to see Sylvie both in classical and modern repertory. She will be doing "Sacred Monsters" from December 19th to December 23rd and then "Marguerite et Armand" with Massimo Murru, from December 25th to December 30th, both productions at Megaron Mousikis in Athens (Athens Megaron Concert Hall).
Well I am 40 now and and had a horrific accident whilst dancing She gave me so much courage to with 8 fusions in my back , and broken feet which I almost lost I’m walking in pain every day of my life but somehow I agree with Sylvia that never let anybody live your life for you , don’t just please but go out there and grab everything you know which you were born with You always have the right to say NO !!!!!!! My love to you, you are really my inspiration
I'm so sorry you had to go through that Suranel! She does have a very important message when she says not to let other people live your life... and she had the talent to be herself. What I mean by that is that many dancers will just do anything that's asked of them, because they know they can be replaced pretty easily (at the beginning of their career especially). It makes us learn to respect our ballet master even if we don't always agree.... being so young and at the top when most 19-yo ballet dancers are still in the corps or a soloist is just amazing and it has changed her perspective on things, I'm sure of it...and I'm glad because she's great.
Probably, that's how it should look Perfection, Etalon, but in Silvia's art there is amazing magic, delicacy and at the same time, extravagance, fire in this fragile vessel!
I have wondered if the old buildings like the Maryinski and the Paris Opera has a mold problem. The dancers practically live there...I guess her having a passion for enviornmentalism brought this to mind....
Interesting how Nuriyev's story with Margot repeated with Silvie in terms of age difererence. BUT Silvie is so much superior as a dancer then Margot. I can't get excited about Margot even if I tried. But Silvie captivated me from first video. Just like I can nor get excited about Zaharova no matter what, but Silvie.....she is a a Goddes no matter what she dances...
Did you see Margot on stage? Films don’t convey her presence, simplicity and musicality. No dancer has ever moved me so much as Fonteyn. Cojocaru is close though. Her exceptional sensitivity and steely technique.
It's normal, they are so different!! I can be moved by Zaharova, but not in the same way at all... and less. Some dancers are bigger than ballet and others are a more typical ballet dancer type. Sylvie Guillem is definitely not the typical classical ballerina.
I agree with her philosophy entirely and if we sll aspire to achieve her discpline and honestly pursued their profession without harming another human being.
always always Guillem very young but after 30 y old nothing , it's a fact Guillem phenomenal young after 30 nothing her Giselle at Chatelet-Theater-Paris bad in 2004 .
secondaryresponse I'm sure many women would want to look as her on their age of 48 yrs....(independently of her intrinsic, artistic, creative talents !!)
Yes, everything is beautiful. But the more you dance the contemporary, the bigger the muscles of the arms are. It looks awful. Her shoulders have become manly. For me beautiful arms are very important.
D G I’m sorry but no, she’s not « manly » but she’s not especially feminine, she’s raw indeed. But that’s also what makes her such a great and incredible dancer.
How is it some people see an incredible, talented, creative tour de force and feel the need to comment on how she looks for her age, or the size of her shoulders. A breathtaking lack of awareness? A lack of ability to simply appreciate? Conditioned to comment on a woman’s looks, rather than appreciate her abilities?
i watched her perform bolero and It made me tear up EVEN though i watched it here on youtube. i never understood the greatness of bolero until i watched her perform.
i love her, she is the best one playing "raymonda" when she did it, she is just such a perfect dancer on a technical and artistic level.

Not me. I'll say any stupid thing that comes to mind.

So down to earth for someone so accomplished. And a really good person.
I like how she does the contemporary dance. I am an amateur in ballet and neuro student. I really hope I can grow more in ballet in the future ❤

Not alot of people can say that. Lol. (What an interesting life you seem to have had!)

Amazing talent! Beautiful spirit. Timing is impeccable in my humble opinion, like she is one with the music.
Love her. Love her perfectionism. Love her assertiveness. Awesome.
My favorite dancer in the universe love you Sylvie💜
She is the goddess of beauty, the most beautiful woman in the world, and a living work of art.I love her.

I hope you are better now, that sounds horrible. I agree too with the never let anybody live your life for you also.
okay--she's got it all. Including the spirit! And she is not a cookie cutter dancer.

Incredible Silvy Guillem ❤
Me encanta este documental de Silvie, como lo ha hecho la bbc, con respeto a la danza.
12:07, who has any right to be this beautiful.
And have such a sensual voice...
Wow.... breathtaking

She is 1 in a billion…
Une danseuse éblouissante avec une technique époustouflante !!!
Amazing!
my motivation!
Who, in their right mind, chose to end the first half of this during the closing bars of ‘Manon’?
.... Senza parole..............
A true phenomenon...
Great!
I’m naming my next cat Sylvie after her. Amazing
Outstanding
She is the Maria Callas of Ballet. If Callas had a happy ending.
I have wondered if the old buildings like the Maryinski and the Paris Opera has a mold problem. The dancers practically live there...I guess her having a passion for enviornmentalism brought this to mind....
She's so pretty! (especially her feet!!) =)

💖💜🌷🌺💕👐

She has a perfect body.
What's the song playing during the introduction?
Gustavo Dudamel - Fuga con Pajarillo :)
Ion Bogdan Venezuela presente :')
Impecable standards in sooooo many levels!
yes she is quite lucky!! To be supple yet not loose cartilage to arthritis- This was my case!! :( I'm so glad to hear she is an environmentalist!
Not so sure about "only one who could lift leg & hold it" - check out Zakharova, but perhaps she came a bit later.
i miss her. I fucking miss her.
always always Guillem very young but after 30 y old nothing , it's a fact Guillem phenomenal young after 30 nothing her Giselle at Chatelet-Theater-Paris bad in 2004 .

Like to see what u look like.....
あのシルビ-ギエムにも容貌に衰えが❗️
私がお婆さんになるのも、当たり前。
Man they did her horrible wrong in the thumbnail 😂
shes 48 here but looks a lot older..
secondaryresponse I'm sure many women would want to look as her on their age of 48 yrs....(independently of her intrinsic, artistic, creative talents !!)
she's also not wearing any make up, find me any 48 years old woman that looks fresh at that age...she's real, she's raw and gorgeous
Очень изможденная.классический балет лучше.красивее.
O trabho de syvie guilhem é maravilhoso!só que fora dos palcos ela se veste muito mal! Devia ser mais vaidosa!

Her arms are like water and air when she dances. As well as her hands.
