I never understand why people want 4k on a handheld. The screen size makes it so pointless and it'll be a harsh barrier for performance and especially battery life. I'll take a 1080p and solid 60fps experience in the next gen handheld. Just make sure it's comparable to steam decks performance and to me, that'll be the best balance.
lol 1080p for a handheld is pushing it. even the steam deck only runs at 800p. the rog ally has 1080p but at the cost of an ass battery life which makes the cpncept of portable device pointless
Same , although it's harder for us because Nintendo has no official presence in India. However , just had to get that oled and the TOTK skin just looks gorgeous with the neat additions.
The funny thing about the switch is that what makes it perfect for kids to play also makes it perfect for adults who are busy with life to still be able to game. Portable, can play while traveling for work, and can pause then pick up with no boot up time later.
Another thing to note is that many people, myself included, have already purchased many games from Steam, which makes the library of the Steam deck that much better
Hey Cryptanic, yep I think it's an obvious one, if you already have a steam account with a tonne of games that you want to play away from a monitor, then Steam Deck is the best choice
Honestly, even though the OLED model is better designed than the original, I think it’s smart to wait till next year when they release upgraded hardware. That’s when I plan to upgrade from my 2017 model.
What makes you think they're going to do that? The rumour mill has been chugging for years, and the president of Nintendo said there are no plans to release any new hardware this financial year (ends March 2024). I doubt we'll see new hardware until late 2024 at the absolute earliest. Most likely significantly later than that. I also wouldn't assume the next hardware release will be a new Switch. Look at Nintendo's console release history. They've never released a sequel in the same way that Microsoft or Sony has. Every significant hardware update has significant changes. Think Wii to Wii U, DS to 3DS. Just as, if not more likely, think N64 to GameCube, or GameCube to Wii, or Wii U to Switch. Nintendo isn't Sony, they're not going to release similar consoles with updated hardware, that's just not what they do.
As Charlie pointed out, there will be no announcement until FY 2024/25, and the system will be different, but will draw on all the successful elements of the Switch… so it will have a portable screen, be able to covert to TV mode, and hopefully have some other cool new aspects to it, either way the OLED switch is the perfect interim solution to play the best Nintendo exclusives 🤍🖤
I’ve just bought the Zelda edition and both the latest games. I don’t have a TV. I live alone. Watch films on an oculus or my iPhone. And I just wanted something to get back into gaming. Paid £400 for all of it. Best money I’ve spent in a long time.
If you're using your Switch OLED purely handheld it's even better value as that's the main reason to get one, good to hear peeps enjoying this great piece of kit
Ye, exactly, the improved performance and resolution is all that’s needed to make it the perfect Nintendo gaming machine.. hoping we get a Switch 2 announcement this year at least 🤓
They could have , however that's not the nintendo way. They Need the hardware for the next system, if they came out with a switch pro( or whatever) they would of been back to the drawing board.
i havent even beat totk once yet i work my ass off i dont know how adults now a days have time for video games i loved them as a kid but now mentally i cant play for more than 3 hours and im 22
When I was 22 I was either out drinking or pulling all nighters gaming... but as a man with a family now, my gaming time is limited, one of the reasons I created this channel... was to game more again while producing content
I have a PC and a PS5. After trying out the Switch at a friend in March this year, I fell in love and bought a Switch OLED myself with Breath of the Wild. I haven't had this much fun gaming in a long time, not even on the PS5 I got in 2020. Switch is just a blast and I can't believe I thought I would never want that handheld with 720p and PS2/3 graphics. Now I play it more than my PS5 and PC
I would suggest people still get a glass screen protector, if the one pre installed gets scratches you're screwed and can't remove it. Plus, a pack of 3 is only like 10 to 15 USD
Short answer :yes From someone 3 years ago had a switch lite and then got rid of it after a month, picked up a Oled switch recently and haven’t been able to stop having a niche for playing it shits convenient when you don’t want to sit in a certain spot just to game(borderlands is surprisingly fantastic on it, looking to try thps next )
I did enjoy borderlands 3 on the PS4, haven't played it on the Switch OLED, I just got rid of my Switch Lite and Standard Switch consoles. The Switch OLED and PS5 cover my gaming needs
@@frostfire_mage same the Oled switch and pc cover my needs for now .. a little bit of Xbox series s for 2k and just is the console I started out on, don’t really use it much though.. it’s good for those ranked games when you can’t back out though lol
Very well put together. Very thorough and I've been watching what seems like hours of reviews. Yours is the best by far. I like how you get quick to the point and demonstrate everything side by side.
Thanks Funcentric, appreciate the kind words I like to get straight to the point, as I appreciate everyone's time is precious, did you make a decision whether the Switch OLED is still worth it? (I still love mine )
@@frostfire_mage I’m always the latecomer. I got a Walkman, when people had cd players. I got cd players when people were using mini disks and MP3 players. I only got a smart phone after seeing grandmas with them. Getting the OLED from Japan for a bit cheaper. No warranty though.
There are cushions inside the dock which prevents it from scratching the screen and also from messing up the dock's type c connector overtime. This is why is has that wobble.
@@frostfire_mage No problem. :) I do wonder however for those who own new in box consoles with batteries is should you take the new consoles out of the box and charge them from time to time so that the battery can last overtime. What do you think @Frostfire_mage? I have not seen a video on this subject.
I'm 41 and haven't had a console since the PS2 and OG Gameboy. Got a Splatoon 3 edition switch OLED last week. I have never had this much fun gaming. Absolutely love this device and all of the games I've played so far. My only regret is having waited so long to get one.
Guys I have been watching videos about should you buy etc for years and finally just went ahead and bought the switch. It’s my first switch and the only regret I have is not having this amazing machine earlier. Stop waiting and just buy it it’s so fun and it’s so unique. It’s not like anything else in the market. Yes its 30 fps. Yes its 1080p but yes it’s amazing. It’s simple and that’s all it has to be. I was so worried about specs so I prolonged buying one hoping a better spec switch would come out. Even with 30 fps if your tv has motion smoothing it makes it way better. Even with 1080p if you have an oled tv it still looks beautiful. I think the Nintendo switch may be my favorite console ever and I’ve had xbox series X, the PlayStations etc. Do yourself a favor and just buy this console you won’t regret it and you’ll be happy you didn’t wait any longer.
In terms of overall playtime, I've used my Switch OLED more than my PS5, it's versatile nature mean I just get more opportunities to use it and I the OLED Screen.
I just bought the Nintendo switch oled, and plan on using it for some years, at least until the release an upgraded version to the successor of the switch
It’s my favourite gaming machine due to the ergonomics, great OLED screen and Nintendo exclusives🖤🤍… re: Switch 2… lots of leeks and rumors, dropping a new vid shortly, stay tuned 🙏🏻
@@YEDI49Quick question, I'm looking to get a switch oled and Mario kart is one of the games I'm thinking of getting but I'm not sure yet. Is Mario kart worth it on the switch??
I liked my Switch Lite so much, already playing BOTW more than 100 hours. Will buying the Switch OLED with TOTK in coming months & Switch 2 next holiday 2024 ❤
The dpi on the Switch Lite is great... but I do prefer the versatility of the Switch OLED as well as the bigger vibrant screen quality, the next gen switch/console will be epic whenever they announce it
how do you have so little subscribers??? This was a really great video and I was able to sit through the whole thing, unlike many other tech reviews. I am really impressed with the quality of this video despite not having a huge following. Will be keeping up with this channel in the future.
Hey Nikepsy, thanks for taking the time to right some kind words, it's comments like these that make creating videos rewarding 😊 Just finished another video - if you're interested in Tears of the Kingdom 🗡🛡🏹💚💛 ua-cam.com/video/MsB5UWIeL_I/v-deo.html
I was thinking to get a steam deck but that's easier said than done at this moment. But the other day i was round my freinds and i really enjoyed his switch oled, not having played nintendo since the 3ds i see how many great games ive been missing out on with this handheld. Plus i have a pc with a 4080ti so any game i play on the steam deck will be a far lowered version were as the nintendo games are all new and fresh to me so im getting one of them 👍
If you already own a switch V1 or V2 but want to upgrade to oled for cheap, I've seen listings for the oled tablet only for around $200 in the usa, I just orderd one today for Pikmin 4 and RDR 1 once the physical copy is available.
I literally traded my PS5 for a Nintendo Switch OLED for the simple fact I enjoy gaming with my wife and the playstation didn't offer too many co-op 2 player games, for the most part we play on the xbox series s/360 due to many co op & 2 player games offered on gamepass. I love playstation, just wasn't using it as much. Why i made the leap to the switch oled... looks fun for both me & the wife to enjoy.
My wife likes the old school nintendo classics as well, not to mention it's great for the kids. I still hang on to my PS5 for the high res latest shooters and action/adventure games. Let's hope the Switch 2 can be a big enough bump in fps and res that I can get rid of the PS5 too
I decided to snag a used OLED switch on Mercari to save some money and I've been having a blast playing Botw these last few days. Will definitely be snagging Totk after I finish. But yeah if you're on the fence I say buy one used to save a few bucks since they might or might not announce a new model late this year or next year. It's worth the fun you'll have 👍.
Yep, I’m perfectly content with my Switch OLED, anything on top of that with the Switch 2 is just a bonus… I do hope they keep the OLED and not go back to LCD though, we’ll see
@frostfire_mage If you notice. It takes about a year or two for a hardware revision. Which in thay case its perfectly fine to get a console 2 years into its life cycle.
@@frostfire_mage Well technically not the same one when it comes to battery optimization. But as for me, the screen alone is worth buying since I rarely have time to setup dock mode. Plus my nature of work makes the oled screen worth it considering ill be carrying it around everytime.
@@gitgud_kryz1738 in order to balance the costs of the new compute tech on the Switch 2, they will most likely go back to an LCD display… so the Switch OLED should still have decent appeal for a few more years anyway 🤍🖤
Just purchased Nintendo Switch OLED and a bit sad I haven't done proper research about the upcoming upgrade... But I reaaaally want to play the new Zelda lol. I mainly compared it to Steam Deck and Switch seems like a no-brainer to choose for those who prefer using a device on the go as it's not as bulky. A point in favor of Switch that you didn't mention is the easily replaceble controls whereas in case of Steam Deck they are built-in and harder to change in case of whearing out or other breakage. All in all, Steam Deck is great for those who already have a vast Steam games library and/or don't mind going through the trouble of emulation and downloading games from elsewhere. I personally don't want to go through all that + worry about the battery life, and would consider getting Steam Deck only after an upgrade is out. Anyway, thanks for the great video, all your points were very fair. Subscribed!
re: the replaceable Joy-Cons vs built in controls on the Steam Deck, you make a good point re: The Steam Deck, you're also right... it feels like a good first attempt but the battery life is poor, just like the new Asus Rog Ally (surprisingly) Thanks for the positive feedback, appreciate it 🤜🤛
From a pure portability point, how’s the OLED compare to Lite ? I have a Lite that I mostly play before bed (in bed) or traveling, like on a plane or airport… I love the OLED screen ; but I wonder if it’s that much more hassle for portability. My Switch is basically my game boy, I’m not hooking it up to a TV 🤔
As you know when I made this video I used to own a Switch Lite as well... I've since offloaded it and just use the Switch OLED, as it's just the best for portable gaming on the couch, train, plane and in bed... If I were you I would get the OLED now so you can get the most use out of it before the next-gen Switch arrives later next year
Bro solid video, I always wanted to pick up a Switch since the 2017 launch, I played a bit of Zelda Breath of the Wild and knew it’s a game that needs to be played, the sense of adventure was amazing, I have been a PlayStation gamer with PS4 and then PS5, playing Zelda Tears of the Kingdom at a friends place made me finally pull the trigger, got the Switch OLED and man it’s such a good console! The handheld screen is so colorful and vibrant, having a blast playing both docked and handheld, really enjoying playing Zelda And Super Mario Odyssey, so happy with my Switch purchase 😊
Hey Anas, thanks bro, appreciate the positive words 🤜🤛 Funny how friends can end up being the final push sometimes 😁 Completely agree, the Switch OLED looks so much better in person as well... especially compared to what iPhone camera's lense is filming... anyway back to Zelda 😅 💛💚🗡🏹🛡
I a Switch OG and a lite. No oled. However I would say to wait this year out when it comes to switch 2. Still 200-400 euro depending on which version you choose. Save those and put it into switch 2.
If you play a decent amount of handheld I think it’s still worth it, especially if you’re getting a lot of hours of TotK in 🗡️🛡️🏹💚💛 otherwise play docked until the Switch 2 arrives
As axuxx pointed out, the current rumors indicate going back to an IPS display (which sucks) for the Switch 2, which is rumored to release end of 2024.
the only thing that has made almost any Nintendo product good, is the games that you can only play ( not talking emulators ) on Nintendo. forget about the hardware, forget about anything , if you want to play nintendo exclusive titles, its the best device to do it on. thats it. 20 second video is all you need.
Appreciate the comment Ben… but If the hardware and software tech isn’t good enough to support the exclusive Nintendo games then you won’t buy it… and Nintendo’s 6 year old tech is still holding up in a versatile console/ handheld format with a beautiful screen. So no a 20 second video won’t help anyone make a choice on whether to pick one up or not…
Its been a cool ride with Nintendo Switch. I bought one on release in 2017 and bought the OLED shortly after release... but I'm not sure I would jump on one in 2023. The outdated hardware and Nintendo now playing with $70 price point ideas would be the biggest concern for me. I will admit... they at least deliver on their 1st party titles... unlike Xbox.
Ye I agree, I think the good news is, even if they release a Switch 2 in 2024/25, the games will most likely be backwards compatible. Either way I love my Switch OLED which I've had since launch, and looking forward to the new Switch 2
I just got totk oled switch on TOTK release day 🙂, and I love it the only issue is that I have with it is that has issues with gray color uniformity, which is saddly somewhat common from what I’ve seen looking it up on the internet, in certain scenarios it just looks grainy and always in the same pattern, and no it’s not the same as burn in i believe because I’ve put no where near enough time for it to do so.
The only issues I’ve seen are performance related, ie low fps, where there’s too much going on, in a particular scene, this should be resolved with the next gen switch 👍🏻
Its the perfect family step-in game computer, I grewed up with a game-boy and recently bought myself a Swith oled, is just a great toy to have with the rest of what you play.
Yep I agree, I have my PS5 for improved graphics and frame rate & the Switch OLED perfectly compliments that with fun Nintendo exclusives (while travelling as well) 🤍🖤
So... I bought a Switch Lite back in 2019, mainly bc I didn't have enough money to get the regular version, and still wanted to play the exclusive titles. This year, in September, I'm going to the US and I'm thinking about getting the OLED version to "improve" the quality of my gaming sessions. It sucks to be unable to play on the TV and the Lite's small screen makes me sad sometimes. It's basically impossible to play with other people, the screen is too small for that. And the colors aren't amazing, so I really wanted to upgrade. I'm worried about these rumours tho, stating that there is a Nintendo Switch 2 in the horizon. I don't really mind the capacity of the OLED, and couldn't care less about the Steam Deck (I play Steam titles in my pc, it's much better)... but what bothers me is that there is going to be several titles that are going to be exclusive to the new console... so I'm really confused here, dunno if I'll get the OLED, and then sell it afterwards once the new console is announced, or if I'll just patiently wait till there is an actual announcement pf a new generation.
It really comes down to the money at this point, if you can spare it, you’ll have the better experience with the Switch OLED, and then just sell it on in 12-18 months when the next gen Switch drops 👍🏻 If not hold out and wait 🤨 I love my Switch OLED though 🤍🖤
@@frostfire_mage thanks for replying! That's exactly whas I was thinking. The OLED looks pretty sweet, I might get it since I have some money to spare. Then I can just sell it afterwards if the new generation appeals to me 😅
Just go ahead and get the ones I had the same concerned I’ve owned the lite the regular switch and the oled and I’m not even a Nintendo fan but I promise you the oled worth every Penney and Nintendo said recently in a inside meeting that there is no new console in the worlds until atleast mid next year and even then it still would take 6 months to a year to drop one so go for it plus you could just sell it when your done for good money unlike the lite that isn’t worth shit resselling
The oled is a great pick up if you're getting it a switch for the first time or upgrading from a switch lite. If you already have a switch. You definitely can wait
To be fair, I bought the Switch primarily for the Nintendo games such as Pokemon and Zelda and I'm sure thats what a vast majority of others have also bought it for, though the idea of the console itself is obviously great. The Steam Deck isn't attractive to me because playing PC games portably just isn't a need for me, and overall I have a Gaming PC already with its own setup, so I have little need for a Steam Deck.
Ye I agree, I think when most were expecting Nintendo to shrivel up and die after the tragedy that was the Wii U. The Switch was genius moment... it is still somewhat surprising that it's tech is six years old, and it's still cool
I just upgraded and its amazing! Even with the switch 2 on the horizon if there are games made just for the switch 2 I dont mind I have so many games that I can play with the oled! I love it!
Just hopped in a couple weeks back with the pokemon oled and the fact the switch puts smash bros and mario as well as Subnautica and neir automata in my hands with great multiplayer as well has made it my primary console (even over my pc) very quickly, im glad ive got a couple years to breathe with it, I couldn't see going without it as is
I bought my oled last week i am always in love with Pokemon games from pokemon red back in time i used to play my pokemon games in emulator which is good but i am not fully satisfied but after i bought oled i can experience the game at full potential and fun ❤❤❤
A 3rd party company is making a screen for the deck which the resolution will be at 1200p instead of 800p and better colors for $100 hope you'll check it out when it comes out
4K for the next switch? I doubt it. And also, it will be an unnecessary addition. If they just do a high quality 1080p 120hz OLED display at 7 inches for the next standard switch it will be a huge upgrade and will also be able to offer better performance and battery life than unnecessarily pushing 4K or even 1440p on such a small display. What I am really hoping the next gen gets is a huge bump in performance, comparable to the chipsets found in the latest smartphones. And of course a bigger battery pack. And third, at launch backwards compatibility with all switch games and even older Nintendo games. I have never owned any nintendo console or even played nintendo games that much. So I am now waiting patiently for Switch 2 to finally jump into the world of Nintendo.
If you watch the whole video I clarify 1080p for handheld and 4K for docked. I wouldn’t expect performance to get a huge upgrade, as it’s Nintendo. An extra hour min and max would be nice on the battery. There will most likely be backwards compatibility unless they change the generation dramatically… but that’s unlikely due to the success of this gens Switch. Still 12-18 months before next-gen drops 👍🏻
Well, if they still go with Nvidia for the next chip, I would wager they could partner with them in a way to make the console capable of DLSS like upscaling to be able to reach 4K resolution without having to beef out the hardware too much and keep it cheap!
@@frostfire_mage right you are, they will certainly push 4K at 30fps in docked mode. DLSS will help with. And yes, I also think that they will not dramatically change the generations to block out backwards compatibility since luring in new players with the promise of better performance and graphics in older games is a great sales tactic.
Haven't even watched the video. The answer is yes, they will probably cost $500 in great condition 20+ years from now when all the little kids and adults go back and want to play the games that are out now that will be vintage classics.
That dock wobble is because the OG is too tight and scratches the screen. It was widely reported at launch. And instead of nintendo paying more in production they just added space. The deck also has a plugin called vibrant. Makes the screen really good. And as far as the battery settings ive gotten 12 hrs out of ps2 emulation turning down the gpu, cpu, and tdp in the power settings.
It's worth noting that here in Australia the steam deck is currently only being sold through third party resesellers. It should come down a bit in price when Valve officially release it here, making it more competitive.
If you believe in that Pokemon Sword and Shield DLC leak that happened before the Pokemon direct, then no since Winter 2023 isn't that far. But even so, the kanji vaguely translates to a new system so that can just mean a slight upgrade from the OLED
Given there’s been no bump in performance for 6 years, I would expect something significantly better, but hey it’s Nintendo… great games… average performance 😂
I was thinking of buying it but when he said 720p sceen on oled, yeah I straight up dropped it from my cart. I'll be using my monitor untill the rumor upgrade comes out. Great detailed information, love it.
The Steam deck is only slightly better res at 800p… and even though the Rog Ally is 1080p it’s gonna be difficult to pick one up for awhile… The screen res is less of an issue compared to the “docked Tv resolution” (which really needs the bump to 4K)
Specs aren't everything. It's about the games. I have three, an O.G. launch Switch, and Switch OLED, and a Switch Lite (for the D-Pad and the higher pixel density screen). No regrets. I have also had no issues with any of the consoles, including Joycon drift, which I have never experienced.
Yep, even if I only get 30 mins in a day sometimes… it’s still worth it, the portability, screen quality, battery life and Nintendo exclusives are unmatched 🤍🖤
I think if you want a descently priced console that is portable, no tweeking in settings. Pop a game in or digital and it's ready to go, get the Switch. Is it 4K? No. does it have the power that barely matches the based PS4, yeah, it's underpowered. In fact, it's basically a Wii U repackaged but compared to the price of the Steam and how that thing is designed for the PC crowd. On the 2nd hand market, you can get an OLED for under 300. It's just handy.
Ye, the big problem is the tinkering aspect for the Steam Deck, this sounds like it will somewhat reduced with the Asus Rog Ally, but for the great games and sexy OLED screen the Switch OLED is still a great buy
@@DistanTThunder2 I agree about the performance, but the games, versatility and screen make it still reasonable, considering a Switch 2 announcement is unlikely til mid next year.
What yall think, Should I upgrade to OLED from the old switch model or wait for the new console. Anyone have any guess on when we may see a teaser or something for a new console?
Nintendo have said they won't announce anything in FY 2023/24 which is until end of March next year. Most are predicting an announcement mid to end next year, with a release in 2025.
I bought my switch in 2017. Sadly, it died today and I'm wondering if its worth buying an OLED, considering we might get a new console next year. I play PC too so its not like I wouldn't be able to play games
I got my Switch back in 2017 as well and recently got the Oled, if you play handheld a lot the Oled is 100% worth it but even if you don’t for only $50 more you get a much better screen, much improved kickstand and louder, fuller speakers, if you’re worry about a new Nintendo console this year or next year well your worry is justified but imo if you like the Switch get it, the Switch still sells like hot cakes and I don’t think is going anywhere anytime soon, or get a Lite or hit up the used market place and you might be able to find a good deal and save some cash, hope you figure it out 👍.
Hey Midnightdreamer, sorry to hear that 😢 If you do any sort of handheld gaming then OLED 100%. If you’re playing docked then just get a standard switch and save money ahead of the switch 2 release which should be 12-18 months away 💪🏻
Wow! What an amazing video! You covered it all! I also appreciate how you discussed both pros and cons in a way that would really give the viewer something to think about it. This video is a 5/5. Loved it!
It's current July 13 2023 and i get my first switch in the mail tomorrow (OLED NEON BLUE RED). Also got Zelda TOTK, Animal Crossing NH, and Super Mario 3D World +Bowsers Fury. So excited! I'll be mostly handheld mode in my big comfy chair. Considering subscription to online to get N64 and other classic titles too. So yeah, SWITCH OLED totally worth it even in mid to late 2023😊 I still want to get a steamdeck too, perhaps later
TotK and Mario 3D are great. Super Mario Wonder looks really cool later this year as well. Handheld is where the OLED really shines, lovin the couch play. I’ve tried Subscription which is good value as well. Enjoy 🤙🏻
I am buying one anyway with a Retroflag usb-c cradle/controller for handheld mode, but the OLED switch is kind of a weird product. It's main feature is the OLED screen, which is almost exclusively a handheld mode feature. There is no reason to buy an OLED switch instead of the cheaper LCD version to play it mostly docked. What Nintendo SHOULD have done was made the OLED switch with built in controls making it physically look like a larger Switch Lite, but made the resulting device still dockable and usable with external controllers. Handheld mode with joycons sucks anyway -- they are wobbly, and the "not a d-pad" is inferior to the built in controls on a Switch Lite for handheld use. Most of the target market for this had an old switch. Most of that target market already had joy cons and pro controllers. And it's not like you can't buy such things separately if you want them and didn't already have.
I do love the versatility of the Switch in general, the OLED screen is also great for TableTop while on holiday. Let’s hope they fix the controls on the next gen Switch, supplemented with a nice bump in res and fps ❤️💙
Just joined the switch community got the oled and I'm happy haven't touched my series x much sadly no good games out yet so games on the switch will keep me busy with gaming 😅
I think for Nintendo Switch vs steam deck its more so on which kinda games you wanna play, if you want Nintendo games go with the switch if you want pc games then the steam deck
Exactly, it's a subjective choice... personally I bought the switch for the classic nintendo exclusives. It also just happens to be extremely versatile with a sexy OLED screen
Haha ye for all that PS5 tech (which they aren't even using to it's maximum, still no 8K @ 60 fps capability) I'm exactly the same, I only have the urge to pick and play more Zelda TotK, at the moment 🗡🛡🏹
my big regret is not trading in my switch when gamestop had that insane trade in deal for the OLED 😥😥, with the trade in deal is the only time i would get the OLED not even now am i gonna pay full price for it
@@frostfire_mage yes I've been looking, alot of ppl sell the "tablet" only for around $200 I've seen. So that means I would have to drop more on the dock, assuming the LCD and OLED docks are not cross compatible. Just checked they are interchangeable which is great
Still had my v1 switch. Mostly played dock mode so I never got the urge to buy the oled. I'm waiting for the next version of switch that totally upgrades everything
Ye if you mainly play docked there’s not much point in upgrading, am also looking forward to the next gen console, playing Nintendo game exclusives in 4K TV mode will be epic ❤️💙
do you think still worth to buy v1 switch today? i think i can buy one from a friend for €100 he also share with me game library, so i only pay extra for 1 year online playable thing
@@crispybanana3316 what if i want to use with hand mode to? did i must replace the battery or is this general issue on v1 model. i mean the problem is battery old or v2 has better battery
Thanks for the insight. I was also thinking, to buy a switch, but I'm still not sure. The price for the switch oled is still very high here in Austria (350 Euros). That's a lot for a 6 year old console. Although the price is high, I understand why people buy the switch. I don't know, if it is still worth to buy one, if the new one will launch in two years, and it seems like that. Anyway, I left you a like and a follow. Thanks for sharing your opinion, it will help me to decide, whether to buy one or not. You are right, that Zelda is a good argument for buying a switch. Keep up the good work. Greetings from Vienna Austria
Hey Thindale, greetings from Australia, ye 350 euros does seem a little pricey, and Nintendo are definitely milking this generation. my best guess is Q2 2014 for an announcement of the next-gen console... with a release in 2025. But given people are still picking up the Switch OLED models with Zelda TotK it may push out even further. 💛💚
Sieh dir mal die Spiele an wie Nintendogs, Barbie, usw…just my two cents. Wenn eine Neue kommt bin ich wieder dabei! Würde gerne Octopath 1/2, Persona, Mario Wonder, usw drauf zocken.
A really thorough review. Thank you. I’ve been sitting on the fence for so long now. A PS5 or Switch OLED. Now that I’ve seen this great video, and ToTK has just launched, the OLED is the way forward. Keep up the great reviews. 🙏🏻
It’s comments like this that keep me motivated to do analysis and make more content, the Switch OLED is great for pick up and play of fun Nintendo exclusives with a sexy screen, you won’t be disappointed 🖤🤍
Just some feedback, your audio for voice overs is amazing but it’s not the same for On Camera shots and can make the change really noticeable. Maybe having the same quality for both voice over and On Camera parts could help
i have wanted to buy a switch for years. not sure if at this point i should hold out and wait and see if they announce switch 2 or not. Also for steam deck, I would have no noeed to buy it sicne I have steam on my PC. No point in buying a handheld steam console, lol
Q2 2024 Switch 2 Announcement, and most likely release before EOY 2024. Which means still a lot of time to get value out of a Switch OLED. Also, the Steam Deck is actually a good fit for you as you can use your switch library while on the go with the Steam Deck, but if you prefer pick up n play over tinkering then the Switch OLED is the better choice
I've been looking into buying a switch for quite some time. I suspect that I'll be playing docked most of the time but that oled screen seems very appealing
Agree 100%, if you're not into Tinkering you will get frustrated with the Steam Deck. If pick up and play is more your cup of tea, then the Switch OLED is great purchase
I just upgraded to the Switch OLED this year and I have no regrets. Plus I got it on a massive discount as over here in the Philippines, our biggest game store has permanently marked down all Switch models retail prices. The non special edition Switch OLEDs now just cost USD 240 when converted from my local currency, while the special editions cost $270. That’s a massive discount from its original $350 price point. The Switch V2 and Switch Lite got similar price cuts. The Switch V2 is now only $197 for the non-special editions, and the non special edition Switch Lite is $152 and $170 for the special edition (yes, even the new Zelda special edition of the Switch Lite).
Great vid, thanks for all the info! Do you thing games released for switch 2 (or whatever itll be called) will be available for our current swtich too? At least the first ones... This would be one major point for those thinking about buying one now (my case)
I would say it’s likely no, the Switch 2 should be backwards compatible, but that’s about it, again 2025 likely release… so still 2 years of current gen life…
im consedering a switch OLED i fly a lot also for 9 hours till 11 hours my main use will be using them on train rides or flights or rarely for racing games on tv,i have 1K hi end headphones witch have normal jack plus the biger jack when you want them conected a amplifier -reciever in is the sound quality same like conected to a laptop or last generation smartphone is there a way to storage mp 3 audio files so i have all in one and don,t have to bring my relativly heavy gaming laptop with me.
Have a go at the following… To store music on a microSD card for the Nintendo Switch, you will need to format the microSD card to the FAT32 file system. Once the microSD card is formatted, you can then transfer music to the microSD card either by connecting the Nintendo Switch to your computer with a USB cable or by using an SD card reader. After the music has been transferred to the microSD card, you can then access the music files in the Nintendo Switch’s music player app.
I will pick the Switch OLED over the Steam Deck because of Nintendo’s exclusives I just want to get into the games and play rather than tinker, while the Steam Deck has some nice to have features, it’s not essential to me, plus the processor is still good enough despite it beginning to be long in the tooth.
Yep, pick n play is important for those with limited free time. The exclusives are great as well, and still over a year til we get Switch 2 (most likely).
@@frostfire_mage agreed but I like that Nintendo won’t quickly abandon the Switch like Sony has done with the PS4 if they were still supporting the DS when the 3DS launched and I think they’re still supporting the 3DS to this day so when it comes to supporting their older systems, Nintendo is actually better than both Sony and Microsoft in this respect.
Exclusives like what? Mario games and Zelda? Switch has a ton of good coach multiplayer and single player ports, but choosing it for those “fantastic” exclusives meh
@@aleksandrtrikoz1993 Yes, for me it’s Zelda & Metroid games, if it’s for ported games… great, everyone’s different. It’s a great machine considering the old tech, which I’m still getting plenty of mileage out of.
@@aleksandrtrikoz1993 there are some good ported games on the Switch but those are like gold dust and I’d rather play superior versions of those games on the more powerful consoles but of course there’s exceptions but most of the time the Switch version are the lesser versions so only the really good ports I’ll pick up for the Switch.
Great vid as usual amazingly detailed love the quality of Oled screen looking forward to release of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom - sticking with Switch so I can share multiple games and keep costs down in these trying economic times. Keep them coming 👌
Thanks Sandy, I’ve been a loyal Nintendo player since the NES days, had to do this video to pay homage, especially with TotK 🗡️🛡️only days away from release 🪬
You have to take in consideration that the games on Steam are legally accessible thorough numerous other platforms. The Nintendo games arent. I therefore think its a bit unfair to compare the steam library of games with the Nintendo library of games.
You make a good point, however nothing changes the fact the Steam Deck (via the Steam library) has access to a lot more AAA titles… that said personally I prefer the Nintendo exclusives (hence why I mentioned it’s a subjective thing).
I think the problem is that even when done games are accessable through other platforms, the Steam prices still makes the Steam Deck a more attractive proposition to many. Take for instance Witcher 3 and Celeste. Both available for the Steam Deck and for Nintendo Switch, but the Steam Deck versions are better and considerably cheaper. Celeste cost me little more than £3 on sale, whilst Witcher 3 was about £7. A tenner for both. Both those games are like £20 each on Switch, and other multiplatform games for for around £30-55. Tormented Souls, £20 on Switch (with worse graphics), or Steam Deck for around £12 (despite incompatibility listing, I've run into no issues so far).
Dude your reviews on point, you could definitely develop a bigger following with more consistent content. Your production and content quality is already there.
Hey Jonni, thanks man, you’re right… I need to put more time aside… time is a hard thing to master with family though… I hope you got something out of the vid 👍🏻 take it easy bro 👊
Because it’s a portable gaming machine that has finally started seeing competition with the Steam Deck and ASUS Rog Ally, and peeps want to know how they compare, when it comes to spending their hard earned 💰💰
Nintendo made a machine that you can pick up n play quickly, that has a vibrant screen, half decent fps and reasonable res for the 7" screen. I'm happy for now, but am also looking forward to a Next-gen Nintendo console. 🤍🖤
With "Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" releasing on the 12th May, what about the game...are you most looking forward to? 🏹🛡🗡

I think 1080p handheld and 4K docked is what peeps would be expecting for the Switch 2.
I think people just want 4k for their TVs, but to be fair switch still looks good upscaled on my 4k tv
Plus you gotta remember you can run at 1080p still docked and have extra performance for all that rendering on heavy scenes…
@@frostfire_mage I hope there is a 1440p option because a lot of us are pc gamers and play our switches on monitors
lol 1080p for a handheld is pushing it. even the steam deck only runs at 800p. the rog ally has 1080p but at the cost of an ass battery life which makes the cpncept of portable device pointless
I’ve had my OG switch for nearly 7 years. Picked up the TOAK edition oled today. No regrets
YO SAME!! Had my OG Switch since launch, and I'll still keep it forever.
Getting my TOAK Oled today as well :D
The ToTK edition does look nice, not jealous at all 😅 🗡️🛡️🪬🏰
Same , although it's harder for us because Nintendo has no official presence in India. However , just had to get that oled and the TOTK skin just looks gorgeous with the neat additions.
Mine comes in tomorrow!
Genuinelly why do people buy the same console again, never understood that
The funny thing about the switch is that what makes it perfect for kids to play also makes it perfect for adults who are busy with life to still be able to game. Portable, can play while traveling for work, and can pause then pick up with no boot up time later.
Yep, as a busy adult, I have a lot less time for tinkering… spot on 👍🏻
Another thing to note is that many people, myself included, have already purchased many games from Steam, which makes the library of the Steam deck that much better
@@CharlieMikeNSDue to the Xbox Sony case, Nintendo got dragged in because of call of duty. Looks like it'll be next year after all
I’ve just bought the Zelda edition and both the latest games.
The Switch OLED is stunning, picked it up recently 😊
As the pace of innovation increases it’s surprising how I still love picking up and playing my switch Oled 🖤🤍
@@frostfire_mage well said! Nintendo don’t miss when it comes to games, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Mario Odyssey are absolutely stunning 😊
They should have just made this the switch 2 with improved specs.

It just shows you that it's not always about the graphics and performance. I'm still having a blast with the Switch OLED and TotK, great game 💛💚
Switch is lightly weaker from PS4. Is between PS3/ps4
I would suggest people still get a glass screen protector, if the one pre installed gets scratches you're screwed and can't remove it.
Plus, a pack of 3 is only like 10 to 15 USD
A good suggestion Renato, thanks for dropping some handy advice in the comments 🤙🏻
Short answer :yes
From someone 3 years ago had a switch lite and then got rid of it after a month, picked up a Oled switch recently and haven’t been able to stop having a niche for playing it shits convenient when you don’t want to sit in a certain spot just to game(borderlands is surprisingly fantastic on it, looking to try thps next )
I just bought a switch oled last weekend, and im having an absolute blast. Better late than never!

Hey Yoni, tbh playing all the best exclusives now.... would be like being a kid in a candy store. Great positives vibes, love it!

If you already own a switch V1 or V2 but want to upgrade to oled for cheap, I've seen listings for the oled tablet only for around $200 in the usa, I just orderd one today for Pikmin 4 and RDR 1 once the physical copy is available.
Hey Tyler, a few others in the comments have also done this. Definitely a good way to save some 💰 especially with Switch 2 rumoured for end of 2024.
Let's hope the Switch 2 can be a big enough bump in fps and res that I can get rid of the PS5 too
@frostfire_mage Let's hope so brotha 🙏🏽 💯
I decided to snag a used OLED switch on Mercari to save some money and I've been having a blast playing Botw these last few days. Will definitely be snagging Totk after I finish. Hey Reaper, you must be pumped, for TotK, but I do understand it makes sense to finish off BoTW, the OLED screen is also great 🤍🖤
Not to nitpick, but the original Switch has front-firing speakers too. The location you pointed to is the fan intake. Great Vid!
Good point, they are still closed type speakers which perform better than the open type on the Standard & Lite
Upgraded to the Limited Edition OLED just for the game. If not for that I might've just kept my standard one.

Just upgraded a month ago. If the rumors are true about a new switch. I don't mind waiting a year or two for another revision.

If I were you I would get the OLED now so you can get the most use out of it before the next-gen Switch arrives later next year

nintendo switch 2 is said to release next year so if you have a normal switch then keep it and if your happy with your lite keep it

the only thing that has made almost any Nintendo product good, is the games that you can only play ( not talking emulators ) on Nintendo. forget about the hardware, forget about anything , if you want to play nintendo exclusive titles, its the best device to do it on.
Yep I agree, I have my PS5 for improved graphics and frame rate & the Switch OLED perfectly compliments that with fun Nintendo exclusives (while travelling as well) 🤍🖤
Just got an oled switch, my first nintendo console in a longggggg time. What a great time the switch is
Ye dude, they knocked it out the park with the quality of the OLED screen, and the games are great to pick up and play

Some peeps prefer the better ratio to pixel count on the Switch Lite, but ye I prefer the OLED, so I agree with you
To be fair, I bought the Switch primarily for the Nintendo games such as Pokemon and Zelda and I'm sure thats what a vast majority of others have also bought it for, though the idea of the console itself is obviously great.
I love it!
Ye, had a blast 💥 with the OLED in the last 2 years, Nintendo hit a home run with this gen 🛡️🗡️🏹💛💚
yes. I upgraded from a 2019 model to the new Zelda switch. I use it more than I did the 2019 model. worth it.
The design of the TotK Switch does look nice, gratz dude
Just hopped in a couple weeks back with the pokemon oled and the fact the switch puts smash bros and mario as well as Subnautica and neir automata in my hands with great multiplayer as well has made it my primary console (even over my pc) very quickly, im glad ive got a couple years to breathe with it, I couldn't see going without it as is
Yep, it's an essential part of my train commute, the OLED screen is fantastic for getting some gaming in around a busy schedule
I bought my oled last week i am always in love with Pokemon games from pokemon red back in time i used to play my pokemon games in emulator which is good but i am not fully satisfied but after i bought oled i can experience the game at full potential and fun ❤❤❤
It’s my favorite gaming device ahead of any other console or handheld, love it 🤍🖤
A 3rd party company is making a screen for the deck which the resolution will be at 1200p instead of 800p and better colors for $100 hope you'll check it out when it comes out
Hi TimTam, sounds interesting... does it attach to the front of the handheld machine?
You’re actually going to hold onto it for 20 years? o.O
@@frostfire_magewhy not? There are still people play with mega drives or snes cmn man 😂😂😂😂
PS5 and Nintendo Switch OLED I use the Switch way more even Fortnite
I was talking in another thread that if the Switch 2 spec upgrades are good enough, 1080p handheld, and 4K 60fps docked, I will sell the PS5 🤨
Some good points here Eddie, thanks for your feedback 🤙🏻
It's worth noting that here in Australia the steam deck is currently only being sold through third party resesellers. It should come down a bit in price when Valve officially release it here, making it more competitive.
If the ASUS Rog Ally can ramp production levels and release fast in Australia, peeps will pass on the Steam Deck altogether
You deserve way more subs keep up the good work👍
Hey Jello time, thanks for the kind words 😊 You must be pumped for TotK, not long now… Can’t wait 😜
Yes, I missed my old Switch and gaming on XSX and PS5 has not been the same. Got the Oled for Tears. Happy again!
Definitely worth the wait, gonna be hard… once ganondorf meets his inevitable demise, every other game will be a let down 😢
Ive played with ALOT of great custom joycons but im back on the Nintendo joys! And for some reason ive learned to Really love them.
I lost my V2 Switch in a fire, so got an OLED. I love it.
@@frostfire_mage the hardware is not worth the money in 2023 man.
@@DistanTThunder2 I agree about the performance, but the games, versatility and screen make it still reasonable, considering a Switch 2 announcement is unlikely til mid next year.
If you play undocked, it’s worth it
Ye, 100% agree on this ☝️
What yall think, Should I upgrade to OLED from the old switch model or wait for the new console. Anyone have any guess on when we may see a teaser or something for a new console?
Honestly I’d wait. Put the money to the side, so when the time comes, you’ll have the funds to purchase it without any hesitation.
Loved it!
Hey Genefactor, love the positives feedback I try not to be biased in my videos and just present the facts, with a bit of fun thrown in, more to come!
So yeah, SWITCH OLED totally worth it even in mid to late 2023😊
I still want to get a steamdeck too, perhaps later
Have fun man, i just got mine a few days ago with pokemon.
TotK and Mario 3D are great. Super Mario Wonder looks really cool later this year as well.
Handheld is where the OLED really shines, lovin the couch play.
I’ve tried Subscription which is good value as well.
Enjoy 🤙🏻
Same I just got the oled but I feel like I regret it now because of rumors of a switch pro or 2. Did I just make a mistake?
@@efraintrejo6324 Not at all, still 12-18 months of value before we get the Switch 2.
The answer is YES. Best console since my childhood preferred one.
Hey Rodrigo, I think it’s good for another 18 months before Switch 2 arrives, but yes I also love my Switch OLED 😍
100% the Switch library is incredible
Not sure about incredible 😂 But as a Nintendo fan, I do think the exclusives are still great after all these years 😊
Holds very well with some very good first party games. I wouldn't have considered it until I got hooked on Xenoblade Chronicles universe.
!Super Cool Intro! (A lot of Good Editing)
Hey Enrique, trying to get better with every vid, thanks for kind words, glad you enjoyed 😊
I just bought a switch oled as my dedicated jrpg machine 😄
I got my oled a month ago ...after thinking about it fir a while and the switch 2 pushed back to summer 2025 initially
Exactly the video that I want. Thank you Subscribed
Happy to help 😎 & appreciate the sub 🙏🏻
Welcome friend, good times ahead, especially with imminent Zelda launch! 🏹🛡️🗡️
@@frostfire_mage would you say it’s worth it buying it now? I’ve been thinking about getting one since I haven’t had a Nintendo console in a while
@@DatBoi69420I’d say it’s worth it, I went from a switch lite to an Oled and I’ve been using it waaaaaaaaay more

Put a lot of effort into making it as informative and entertaining as possible, thanks for noticing Frank 🤙🏻
I just bought my first switch Oled, the Tears of the Kingdom edition. And I’m happy with it, I’m playinh more with my switch than with my ps5
Haha ye for all that PS5 tech (which they aren't even using to it's maximum, still no 8K @ 60 fps capability) I'm exactly the same, I only have the urge to pick and play more Zelda TotK, at the moment 🗡🛡🏹
I was about to buy an oled. Gonna used it to play Legend of zelda, pokemon, and mario games
I’m still loving my Switch OLED and play it more than my PS5 currently, you won’t be disappointed 🤙🏻
my big regret is not trading in my switch when gamestop had that insane trade in deal for the OLED 😥😥, with the trade in deal is the only time i would get the OLED not even now am i gonna pay full price for it
Shame, live n learn, other option is to try to find an OLED panel on eBay or equivalent site for cheaper…
@@frostfire_mage yes I've been looking, alot of ppl sell the "tablet" only for around $200 I've seen. So that means I would have to drop more on the dock, assuming the LCD and OLED docks are not cross compatible. Just checked they are interchangeable which is great
@@AD-xn7pt That’s true, if the docks are overpriced 2nd hand, then better to get new I suppose
Still had my v1 switch. Mostly played dock mode so I never got the urge to buy the oled. I'm waiting for the next version of switch that totally upgrades everything

do you think still worth to buy v1 switch today? i think i can buy one from a friend for €100 he also share with me game library, so i only pay extra for 1 year online playable thing

🎉
Appreciate the constructive feedback Matt, ye I’m aware, it’s on my list to find a solution, Happy New Year 🥳 🤙🏻
i have wanted to buy a switch for years. not sure if at this point i should hold out and wait and see if they announce switch 2 or not.
I've just purchased an oled.. super mario is more my bag so can't wait to get immersed in all the SM games!
Nice one Alex...."Super Mario Odyssey", "Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury" and "Super Mario Bros U Deluxe" all great games
I've been looking into buying a switch for quite some time. I suspect that I'll be playing docked most of the time but that oled screen seems very appealing
If you’re going to play it while travelling or commuting it’s definitely worth it, also nice if family takes the TV for something else 👍🏻
4k on a screen that small is a bit overkill in my opinion, I agree with every thing else.
1080p handheld and 4K docked bro
@@frostfire_mage oh... that makes sense, My bad 😂
A big -for steamdeck is the games are not optimazed, most of the new titles having lags , i didn t see that on nintendo.
What tv was that during the docked showcase, it looks so beautiful
