Thank you, Charlie - my vote in the awards for Chadwick has been submitted. What I have to say is that I always look forward to your videos, not just to get inspiration on how to do things - but seeing what you have done and your achievements inspire me to get off my backside and try to make progress on my home layout. I like your approach of setting hard deadlines, what you will achieve over the next three months. That's a key to making actual progress. Thanks, and all the best for the coming months.
Charlie, your channel is head and shoulders above any of your competitors. Your obvious technical skill presented with your genuine self-deprecating good humour and your willingness to describe your disasters as well as your triumphs, make your videos compelling and uplifting in equal measure. You are a light in a gloomy world and I'm indebted to you. I have voted for you; if there is any justice you will win, and by a very large margin. Good luck and very best wishes, Alastair
I was lucky enough to bump into Charlie at East Somerset Models on Saturday, In fact I didn’t even know the shop existed until I watched Charlie’s video about signal boxes. I’m now a regular visitor. What a nice guy Charlie is.. he was just leaving and I was trying to distract my wife from seeing what I was spending. I would have liked more time with him as I’m just starting in the hobby, but thanked him for the UA-cam videos , and has got my vote.
Also voted for you. You are number one in my book. You are worthy of the award because how you instruct in your videos. You do such a good job! Because of luck. Looking forward to you next video.
Hi Charlie I think your model railway Chadwick parkway is one of the he best railway on UA-cam I also think that your UA-cam channel is brilliant I always watch you cheers for all your tips and keep up the good work and you've got my vote thanks again
Nice update Charlie, yr layout has moved on so much, havent been able to touch mine in 2 years due to hvg been in hospital. Those Dapol canopies are lovely, I picked up several of the Airfix originals several years ago at fairs when things were cheap as chips. Painted them up in Midland Region colours and they look lovely on my faux Burton On Trent station area recreated back in the steam era when we used to visit as children and the beautiful station was still in situ. Cheers
I like that you take us through all your builds with detailed explanations. I voted for you... Though I enjoy many others on the list... But they don't explain their builds in such detail as you.
Bonjour Charlie, Happy Birthday to you! Vote granted for the Hornby contest. Speaking of software, you may also consider RocRail which is 100% free. Kind Regards, Claude
Very good update Charlie . And thank you so much for having my Card in the background every little bit helps..lol.. 3k subs now. Got all the family to vote for you. You need a wall of Fame now and am sure you will get a lot more cards this year Charlie.
Hi Charlie, sorry for a late comment, but a hand operation intervened. I have placed my vote for your excellent channel. Another great video thank you. I love the videos not only for the interesting and informative information, but also for the humour and the fact that you accept, use and change your layout to suggestion from subscribers. Love the your layout changes and update. As my layout is small and your big I get a lot of enjoyment when you add or change things on yours. Take care mate
Great video as always Charlie, my family and friends have definitely all voted for you , that’s 33 of us so far and I’m still pushing lol - keep up the great videos please 👍 Happy Birthday 🥳 🎉
Youhave my vote Sir. Most enjoyable channel thank you. As you were mentioning removable sections of the layout, could you please do a short video showing how you decide where the track breaks are to be located, how you separate the track(s) before removing a board and the process of realigning the boards securely in the exact position required for the track to be lined up precisely, and finally how to remake the track joins between boards. This has always been something I have wondered about when watching you build your layout but feel it is an important detail I must have missed. I think it would make for an interesting topic to cover. All the best and good luck in the vote.
Yes I will try to explain in the future video. However, I simply bolt the sections together and then bridge the joins with short tracks. This makes it easy should I need to separate the boards in the future. Regards Charlie
Just been to Aldi and purchased a rechargeable battery soldering iron they are just what you need for working on the model railway. Works well and lasts about 20 min if on permanently. It’s small and ideal with no wires ro worry about. Think it was about £19. Great.
Hi Charlie, good luck success breeds success I guess 😊 layout is looking splendid, I think I prefer the disc shunt signals myself, now imagine having a stacked multi route set and having them all working. Cheers Mike
Charlie it was tough Richard from Everard Junction nominated too, yours and Everard are my favourite model railway channels. You know a good vlog when you see how many minutes run time it has and it’s over in a flash. I tried to vote for both of you but that’s not allowed. The dilemma, in the end I tossed a coin and it came down Chadwick! Sorry Richard. Best of luck to both of you.
Thanks Charlie, well, belated Birthday Wishes, best of Luck with the Awards I voted for you, always an excellent Video. Although I'm just down the road from you I Model North American HO and British O Gauge, mind at 76 I am finding HO a wee bit fiddly, whereas I'm OK with my Sussex LBSC O Gauge Layout. Take my Hat off to your excellent Modelling and technical skills.
Good morning Charlie from Wentworth Falls in the Blue Mountains in Australia. I always look forward to your interesting and informative videos. You are my “Go to Guru”! I just voted for you, as I did last year. Good luck, you deserve it. Robert Hamilton
great update👍 ive just installed the new esu sound files onto a class 08 with esu v5 micro and class 37 with a esu v5 21 pin, its super easy with the free software and a lokprogrammer i first made a backup copy of the sound file on the decoder so i could always go back if i needed to, the lockprogrammer was very difficult to buy in the uk as no one seemed to have it in stock so i purchased mine direct from germany, plenty over there at the same price about £120, you can listen to all the sound files if you have the free software just download the sound file and its super easy to fully inspect with the free software on a laptop or pc.
Happy Birthday, Charlie. You're channel has my vote. Finally, I have a double oval track (with two antique double-slips,) down on a 54" X 54" kitchen table, run DC and DCC (via alligator clips) and run my locomotives and a few cars... Again, Finally. My expenditures have almost exceeded my income (but, it's a habit [from some 'hang-ups], and passion) with the (finally) arrival of two Rapido Demonstrator locomotives (sound/dcc)... my sanity remains intact on a partial basis. My 55th birthday in October, a few infamous anniversaries passed, and a few dreams to achieve also in the works. On a personal note (an ironic statement on social media), I want to thank you for you. At your age, I have my hopes intact. Being alone is hard on my soul... but the model trains keep me going (and are an investment) ...patience comes and goes, but time seems to keep passing by. You are an inspiration to me with your model trains and sense of humour (or, perhaps that's patience again?). Right now, I can only "click" for supporting you and your endeavours. Please keep up the good work. Good show, Charlie! ...and regards to the missus. John British Columbia, CA (and hopes for a move back to Bellingham, WA.)
Thanks John, for such a heartwarming comment. It’s comments such as yours that give me the inspiration to keep the channel going. Good luck with your project, regards, Charlie
Voted for you. As regards content for the future what about a 101 on resetting DCC loco decoders and Controllers. Basic 10 cv’s and what they do. The advantages of a separate programming track, use of an auto switch w.r.t a programming track. Other tips et al. Cheers.
Charlie always a thumbs up, you did mention Mckinley not seen anything for ages is everything all right. I am looking forward to seeing if the time table is as good as the railway today.HAHAHA
Great video as always Charlie. You got the headhunt signal at Swanage wrong though. The yellow bar being horizontal means that access to the headhunt is permitted, the bar being moved the 45 degrees allows access to the platform road after the crossover points have been changed.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Easy mistake! A yellow shunt signal gives permission for the driver to go past it horizontal provided the points are set to designated places (e.g. your headhsunt). If the points are set to the running line then horizontal means stop. There are not too many left but there were a few which were converted to position light and the pivot light was yellow with a white on and off light. Today there are locations where we include "opposing locking omitted" allowing two shunt signals either sides of a set of points to be showing proceed at the same time so that trains can go back and forward without any action from the signaller. As always, a great video
Looks like some interesting stuff coming up. Obviously, you'll cover this when you construct it, but I wondered how you're going to maintain access (for cleaning, derailments etc) to those four tracks once the container depot is on top of them. You mentioned fascias and curtains. Given how much of your electronic gizmos is at the edge, I was wondering if a simple curtain wire (like is often used for net curtains) might be preferable to all the construction involved in mounting hardboard or plywood fascia boards. It wouldn't cost much to get some black or Chadwick Green material, with a (don't know the word) hem with a hole through it to thread onto the wire. Had already voted for you before I watched this video!
Thanks Andrew, much appreciated. I use a black hessian curtain attached to the top board with Velcro to keep the dust out. What I may do is attach a similar curtain to the fascia, once it’s in place. Regards, Charlie
Absolutely you have my vote, how could you not? I must confess that usually I have no idea what you are talking about but after watching I can get a good idea of what you are doing. And how could I not mention the passion? I enjoy your videos for the human touch you give, mistakes and all. So of course I voted for Charlie! Your friend accross the pond in the desert of Arizona, Joseph
I find, some of the speakers make a huge difference to the sound, I recently fitted some of Roads and Rails new speakers to my Class 33, absolutely wonderful crisp bass out of those speakers for their size
Hi Charlie you got my vote mate too right, another great video. I'm afraid I could never meet your very high standards in electricity stuff I would have to be reborn re educated and pay more attention to my tutors and don't get a job on the council and instead stayed on at school or gone to university lol never mined -A- I just have to keep mine simple and something I can cope with. I am looking forward to you starting on with your scenery and all that goes with it I'm sure you have got some great tips to pass on to people. thank you again Charlie.
Charlie, your videos are really informative. I am fairly new to model railway. I see you use mainly electrofrog points, but have you ever used unifrog points? Perhaps you could mention them in the next video make on laying points. Thanks for your very good posts, you have my vote on the Hornby awards
Many thanks for your vote. No, I have never installed uni frog points within the layout. However, I have included them in a previous video. Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie. Look forward to every video you do. If you looking at iTrain would love a video on block detection. James at DCC Train Automation sorting out what i need for new layout for my "Train Cave" that is being delivered in about two weeks. You inspire me so much, so rebuilding my late Dad's 40 year old layout. Hence John's Son Street is the name. Good luck in awards, will be there to cheer you on. Thanks again formpic at Ali Pally.
