This is JP at his prime, in my opinion. Of COURSE he's laid down many awesome since this period, but I just feel the man's playing straddled that perfect spot between fusion and metal at this point that has since gone more to the metal direction. I also miss the more stripped-back sound of his guitar - his sound seems flooded with effects these days - that's not a bad thing necessarily and I'm no tone purist, but I prefer the simplicity of his sound some times.
Yeah I miss that RG Custom. Such a pure sound. Falling into Infinity is definitely underrated. But it was the latest album out from then when I first started listening to it, so I might be a bit biased. But there are some gems on that album. I miss the fusion sound. Everyone once in a while it pops backs up, but they had something special for a while there.
Yeah his "Ibanez era" really had his best tones imo....I love most of the compositions since but the actual sound/tone hasn't been quite the same, don't think it's really a guitar thing since he also changed his primary amp setup
Well, it's taken from Portnoy's instructional DVD "Liquid Drum Theater". Would be a bit odd if it didn't show Portnoy all the time and he didn't have a hand in editing it...
i think petrucci will never play with that Ibanez guitar again,MusicMan will go berserk and will definitely break up with petrucci... 😂Sorry my english not good
I love when people see a guitarist playing slower and calling 'em "he's like David Gilmour" because David Gilmour invented how to play slow and soulful. Lol. Jeez..
Whoever directed or edited this DVD did not know much about music. You have an awesome guitar player playing one of the best solos in the history of rock, and most of the time the camera is on Portnoy. Imagine a recording of Neil Peart's YYZ drum solo with the camera focused on Alex or Geddy.
So I need to preface this comment as the brand defenders may jump down my throat. So I played a music man and it was the best playing and sounding instrument I’ve ever played just couldn’t afford the bugger, I’ve got a prestige Ibanez which is amazing but it’s just lacking something to me to make it as special as that MM… But, John’s tone with his Ibanez is so so so much more refined than that on his music man guitars, I don’t know what exactly changed it just doesn’t have that creaminess after he changed
Still coming back after all these years to relish in this masterpiece. Absolutely perfect.
The best solo i've ever heard
The best guitar I've ever dream of
This is John Petrucci on guitar, everyone.

I agree.
Just beautiful
introdução this awesome all chords. very emotion and perfection.
The camera man had an affair with Portnoy.
hahahaha
Funny thing is I'm pretty certain it was Portnoy that cut and edited the live footage.
I hate that cameraman

@@osirisgolad news to me.
Thank you for the info.
Incredible
สุดยอด
Truly one of his best solos.
But the real star in the video is Portnoy at 1:28
back in the days where he had arms as arms.. and not legs
masterpiece
If only this was the solo to Time-Pink Floyd
Mark Lowery I’m surprised he didn’t go Petrucci-mode on this song.
0:32
He should play that guitar some still

Can anyone tell me what show this was from?
It's from mike portnoys drum dvds
@@blastbeatthefolf1052 Do you know what DVD specifically? I want to find this particular performance if possible.
@@slimpickins7752 pretty sure it’s from the once in a livetime dvd.
@@dadbodgamesquad Thanks, I'll look into it!
I guess it was 'a night with DT' shot in Nighttown, Rotterdam
So pink Floyd like
Niye ibanezden vazgeçti bu herif?
too much delay
e shopers Totally agreed. This solo mainlines straight into the harmonic vein so well that it honestly doesn’t even need a drop of delay.
This is nothing compared to his tone today!
It's okay to be wrong. Cause you're out of your mind
this solo is basically jazzy david gilmour
You're out of your mind.
@@birkypuffs8253 No, he isn’t.

@@ogulcanyolcu8714 when gilmour plays, its like cancer to my ear
Nice to them in the early years definitely one of the best I’ve seen them over 10 times in NYC

Yeah man, I still miss MP so much, he's the real Prog's drummer.
Same🤟🏼
Porntoy?
Agree
Love John’s outfit
This is the Greatest solo ever it's fell so great
