I like this particular era of Petrucci partly because he just looks like some random guy from Long Island, who happens to be the best metal guitarist of all time.
😂 I can see that. It's the short hair and goatee. "Hey...i'm jamming ova' heeeeere". 😂 That's my south texas Italian NY stereo type impression. 😅😂Never seen this solo with him on a talk box. Not my fav...the chaos tour solo... sweet and amazing.
John is an amazing guitar player. He can shred the shit out of something but i think his true talent lies in finding the perfect melody for his solo's When he gets into feeling something its guaranteed to give you the chills.
haaraas...you not kiddin.. I've been a JP fan for years. He amazes me everytime I see him. I don't play guitar, but he makes me not want to pick one up. About 2:43 to the end he makes the guitar cry, and me as well. Rock on, John..Rock on!
almost 25 years since i first heard a song by DT and I swear i wouldn't be the person i am today without having had Dream Theater throughout the worst of times in the past. their music always felt like the one safe place to go to when the 3D world outside crumbled to pieces, and it kept pushing me forward.
There was a great use of well placed "rests, and phrasing" and the balance between the building, and the climax of the solo where the tempo increased and slowed down simoultaneously with the rest of the band made for a superb release of the flurry of notes used towards the end. Good work JP! We appreciate you're angle of guitar playing. :)
This is great work. I do like the modal changes used in the progression, good use of timing, and what sets this solo apart from alot of guitarists, is the fact that there was alot of well placed statements through-out the solo, instead of shredding non-stop,
Watched this so many times ive lost count. Maybe close to 40 or 50.. .. . . . . Could watch another 500 times before I die, and enjoy it just as much as the first. The shred at about 3:18 can tear me up if I listen closely enough and focus time after time. Its the most emotional shredding I think any guitarist will ever be able to pull off (Disclaimer: In My Opinion ((even tho i said "I think" i dont wana spark up any arguments :P)) )
Awesome playing from John, as always. There was something about the restraint in the early days of this solo that I still appreciate more though, as we all know he can play insanely fast.
also: goddamn, i remember the first time i watched this too, i just sat there, amazed, my mouth open and shivering... and only upon watching it for again i could remember any of it.
i saw them before when i was in my early 20's ! at a place that no longer exist, sadly.... Rocky point, RI ! there first album ! they played with Galatic cowboys back then , im 47 now, when i saw them i got about 2 feet away from john, he slapped my hand while security took me to the back of the hall ! i will never forget that ! ever !
I just realized... 2:38 is what you should answer people who ask you why we like so many notes: not so much for the shredding itself (well... :-) but especially for the contrast those guys are able to create right afterwards with melody. It's like holding your breath before something amazing happens, and you can breathe again...
Falling into infinity is when JP was at his peak, for me at least. The solos in this album are very mature, the note selections are excellent! I don't mean to say he was bad in other albums, of course not. But he was something else in this one.
The videos where I have seen him rocking the Gilmourish look he plays it soulfully and slow...yet in this video he improvises a lot, plays fast and very agressively...I HAVE DISCOVERED THE SECRET...IT'S ALL IN THE HAIRSTYLE
I think this is, obviously, a matter of preference but, I got the opportunity to play on both the JPM and the Ernie Ball JP6, and honestly, although the JPM was a great guitar, it just felt like a normal japanese RG to me. The Ernie Ball on the other hand is the most comfortable and delicious to play guitar I ever tried. I'd take it over the Ibanez anytime.
I think this video, more than anything, illustrates why I prefer Portnoy to Mangini: just listen to HOW he supports the guitar solo with his drumming. The musical chemistry between the two is absolutely brilliant.
Why should we care about people who say John can't play emotionally? Isn't there enough of us people whom he can move so deeply with his mixture of craziness and cries of pain on his guitar? I'm glad some people insult him. They are called superficial, mainstream, pre-chewed-shit-eating jealous people, and they only justify we're not like them. Our job is not to teach them. Our only job is to "carry on his way" and be respectful and open-minded about everything. Except haters :o)
its a talkbox. he singin the guitar notes as he plays em it gives it that extra effect thing. this is the first time ive seen him do it with this song though
Chase Broussard I’m personally not a fan of his use of the talk box for this solo. The clarity and the voicing of the original was part of why I loved it so much.
@ke70hibino I know what he does, but actually don't know what its called? But he flicks the floyd rose very quickly, to make the string vibrate as the floyd rose gets back in position. Not sure if that helped? xD
ye i know what u mean... this stuff either makes u start/keep playin guitar or make you put it away in "shame"... Well, i couldnt do the latter, so i guess i'm gonna keep on xD but this is amazing... perfectly amazing ^^,
no dude...this is from the six degrees tour in 2002...romavarium has been recorded in Rome in Italy in 2005...if u pay attention mike's drumkit is not the albino monster
Do your this little space of silence 2:35? Well, actually its not a silence. John breaks the speed of sound but the human ear can't caught the superfast sound produced by his ultra-picking-technique.
Now he looks like some random guy from Gary, Indiana
John is an amazing guitar player. He can shred the shit out of something but i think his true talent lies in finding the perfect melody for his solo's When he gets into feeling something its guaranteed to give you the chills.
I agree
Often overlooked is his melodic playing
That's petrucci. Not too technical, but man..he's good
@@mufiku NOT TOO TECHNICAL??!!?!
I mean just the vibrato he hits at the 2:44 mark is killer.

Hahahahaha best comment....1/128 my fav though....
Semipetrucci is John's daughter
You got me
I was there! Greatest guitar solo I have ever witnessed live!
I envy you. Wish I was there too
Then i guess u probably had missed their concert in budokan; where he nailed a jaw-dropping "hollow years" solo
Lucky you..
Lucky you❤️
I still come back to this video. Can’t wait to see this magic again!!
John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy always caused me an earthquake on my skin. This is music. This is emotion. Period.
They’re currently touring together!
Now Mike is back in the band ❤
I think this is probably the live pinnacle of DT. This entire show and tour was just fantastic.
One the best's solos from guitar
BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG...EVER...
JP's DAVID GILMORE ON 6-STRING INTENSITY-STEROIDZ
MOMENT...ICONIC...HISTORIC...TIMELESS!
It's amazing that this solo is improved from start to finish
what a solo? what a beauty? Dream Theater rock. Hello from Athens Greece
haaraas...you not kiddin.. I've been a JP fan for years. He amazes me everytime I see him. I don't play guitar, but he makes me not want to pick one up. About 2:43 to the end he makes the guitar cry, and me as well. Rock on, John..Rock on!
ive been playing for 35 years and every time i hear JP play he makes me want to quit, i dont see how anyone could be any better than him
almost 25 years since i first heard a song by DT and I swear i wouldn't be the person i am today without having had Dream Theater throughout the worst of times in the past. their music always felt like the one safe place to go to when the 3D world outside crumbled to pieces, and it kept pushing me forward.
Fantastic! JP is the best.
Is he a guitar God or is he a guitar God??? He is unbelievably talented 👍👍👍
You are right You are right
Best guitar player ever

Il miglior chitarrista di sempre
no
huge profs to Labrie mentioning his name after every solo... I almost forgot his name
2:30 20,000 notes per seconds, it so fast that the guitar even the fingers couldn't make it.
Ladies and gentleman... Mr. John Petrucci 👏👏👏😁
+1 if you get the chills watching this!
True masterpiece I felt this and all the goosebumps all over
Excelent guitar solo John petrucci
John Petrucci 😘😘😘 number one
This version made me cry
This is great work. I do like the modal changes used in the progression, good use of timing, and what sets this solo apart from alot of guitarists, is the fact that there was alot of well placed statements through-out the solo, instead of shredding non-stop,
live performance ... wowwwwww
no words needed

Virtuoz!
This guitar solo is perfect amalgam between the passionate love & the anger
also: goddamn, i remember the first time i watched this too, i just sat there, amazed, my mouth open and shivering... and only upon watching it for again i could remember any of it.
Petrucci is my God like a living dream!
Thanks for this. I normally just skip to this section in the full song anyway.
So brutal. I’m so in love with this 😂
great variation of the solo
Oooh that's good, so so very good, I don't mind telling you I love this bloke.
2:06 - 3:29 see those perfect duo 2:32 - 2:38 & particularly that improvise melody from 2:45 - 2:52
And the rest ❤
Enéas Carneiro?
This is the best solo ever !
beautiful
proud to be a petrucci fan!!.. take that vai!!.. with all due respect of course..
Im watching this on VCD..( video compact disc ) when i High School.....very amazing...
i saw them before when i was in my early 20's ! at a place that no longer exist, sadly.... Nix Neato plus hes playing live so his adrenalin is pumping to the max
"bUt pEtrucCi cAn'T pLaayyY wItH EmoTIonNnN"
He can't because he is a god, gods have no emotions
Nobody says that though, lol.
@@zZrEtRiBuTiOnZz Too many people say that. People who write him off as a shredder without even listening to him.
@@zZrEtRiBuTiOnZz absolutely a lot of ppl say that my guy, just go on guitar forums.
Eargasm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the best!!!!
0:00 - 3:35 !!
I LOVE YOU DT!
I fucking love how portnoy goes ham as soon as Jon walks back towards him... the two best to ever do it.
Beautiful ❤️
wow....just, wow
I know this song for 10 years and still the best song in my list and Ben Liebrand - Lovely Day remix
2019 guys??? for me the most dynamic LITS solo
Yeahh!!! i agree dude. It is so inspirational.
FREAKING INSANE
G.O.A.T 🔥🔥🔥

Monstruo!
John rules... yeah... killer solo
Tremendo solo!!
My God, This is beautiful. I've watched this about 100 times and i still love it.
I also laughed about the killzone mode. =D
@TheMusicBucket
this had me on the floor laughing. haha. thank you
one of the greatest variations i´ve ever seen..i love it
and i think naelz is right ref, you have no idea what good music is
Falling into infinity is when JP was at his peak, for me at least. The solos in this album are very mature, the note selections are excellent! I don't mean to say he was bad in other albums, of course not. But he was something else in this one.
Bruh i haven't seen a divx logo in ages

grandi i DT!
Ok this is epic!
Thais solo is so amazing
Even Chuck Norris could not match the awesomeness of this godlike solo.
Nobody backs up JP as good as MP, they are connected
JP and MP share a musical connection that can not be replicated by Mangini
Yep . similar to ulrich/hetfield
sounds so much better on his old ibanez guitars, anyone agree?, nothing to do with his playing the guys incredible.
Indeed.Makes his solo sounds more melodical.
Loved the Ibanez era much more, and the guitars looked better IMO
I think this is, obviously, a matter of preference but, I got the opportunity to play on both the JPM and the Ernie Ball JP6, and honestly, although the JPM was a great guitar, it just felt like a normal japanese RG to me. The Ernie Ball on the other hand is the most comfortable and delicious to play guitar I ever tried. I'd take it over the Ibanez anytime.
Fair enough but musicman majesty isn't bad either 👍
Love this comments
I think this video, more than anything, illustrates why I prefer Portnoy to Mangini: just listen to HOW he supports the guitar solo with his drumming. The musical chemistry between the two is absolutely brilliant.
They still got lte tho. Dont worry about dt, dt is broken stuff.
THIS IS JOHN PETRUCCI!!!!!
God.
Trooch bypasses world domination mode & goes into solar system domination mode w this kickass solo.
God damnit, Dream Theater kicks ass.
Why should we care about people who say John can't play emotionally? Isn't there enough of us people whom he can move so deeply with his mixture of craziness and cries of pain on his guitar? BEATIFUL, SO GREAT, I LOVE THIS FUCKIN' SOLO!
Petrucci with short hair is the best period for him. IMHO.
ye i know what u mean... this stuff either makes u start/keep playin guitar or make you put it away in "shame"... Well, i couldnt do the latter, so i guess i'm gonna keep on xD
but this is amazing... perfectly amazing ^^,
when your guitar solo is almost twice as long as every Ramones song XD
Or Grindcore song lol
anyone know where i can download this, if possible audio? i want this on my ipod so bad :P thanks! i promise i'll make good use of this piece of art.
@hyphen8nick Exactly my point.
0:54 omg
@shaqdaddy11 yeah i got it done alright. But thanks a lot for the offer bro, the kind spirit is much appreciated : )
no dude...this is from the six degrees tour in 2002...romavarium has been recorded in Rome in Italy in 2005...if u pay attention mike's drumkit is not the albino monster
Amen!!, nor me.!
Guys! Where is this solo from? its the greatest solo ive ever heard from the GOAT!
Viking Spartan Lines in the sand
Watching in 2020
Do your this little space of silence 2:35? Well, actually its not a silence. John breaks the speed of sound but the human ear can't caught the superfast sound produced by his ultra-picking-technique.
Oh yeah, by all means please take a solo that is already great to a higher level. Its not like we are jealous or anything (angry emoji goes here)
trooch fucking ROCKS
4 people got their head blown after watching this!
