In today’s episode of Ways to Change the World, Sadiq talks to Krishnan about his new book, ‘Breathe’, in which explores why tackling the climate emergency has become his defining policy, as the mayor of London.
Sadiq also discusses the crisis of policing in London, the possibility of a Labour government in Downing Street and why the UK government should be allowing more migrants to move to London.

If Sadiq wants people to use public transport in order to create better air quality he needs to be questioned on how the tube's air quality is worst than roads. He's getting people off roads and putting them into an even more polluted public transport system.

@@TheBFHmontage no, they just spend about an hour or so a day, every day in tube stations and trains with no shielding whatsoever. 20 minutes on the Northern Line is roughly equivalent to smoking a cigarette according to studies. The pollution on the Northern Line is 6 times greater than even the WHO would allow. Twice a day, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year is 520 "cigarettes worth". This is within a country that banned smoking indoors to protect people from passive smoking. In contrast the data for road pollution is heavily disputed. But sure, no one "lives in" the tube and anyone who travels on it is obviously immediately aware of how fresh the air is down there as soon as they take a lung full of air.

I have lived and worked in London my whole life. a normal commute is around 30 mins to 1 hour, only about 20 mins of that would actually be spent underground.
I assure you the damage caused by 24/7 inhalation of fumes from road traffic is much worse than 40 mins a day on the tube inhaling dust particulates.

I think in the future maybe that might be the best way for young people to get on the ladder is to get property elsewhere rent that out and then move back to London with supplemented rent

I 2016, the housing in London was already ridiculous and I paid £450 to rent a tiny pathetic room in Leyton, East London (horrific area). I woke up at 6am to get on a packed train to my office job in Central London to start at 8.30am. I searched up rooms in that same area now and the asking price is £850 for the same size room in the same area. I now live in a beautiful area in the West Midlands, paying £500 for a 2 bedroom flat. I earn a little less, but the standard of living is far higher as I have a lot more leftover to spend on things I want. I walk to work through green, leafy areas and have no worries about crime. In fact, I've never heard of a stabbing since I moved here in 2019. I spent 26 years in London and I miss the bustling vibe and the events, and not to mention the different vibrant characters you meet. Unfortunately, it's not a place to live for those bringing in less than 50K a year, and it's even a struggle for those earning over that. I left my home city, and I'll never look back.

Schools are closing because young families cant afford to live there then move to other places. I dont get why he wants to price out people off cars, but the TFL does not get cheaper, then more inviting.

Many Pakistanis in the UK come on expensive student visas, which they renew annually by showing substantial amounts of money in their accounts. They often pursue degrees in law, banking, and accounting, and they love to start care homes which leads to further exploiting the system for immigration and financial gain and bringing in more Pakistanis to continue this practice. This situation is becoming increasingly problematic.

It makes no sense to enter into London driving on the A13 surrounded by landfills and railways then to take an exit right in the middle of an industrial estate and being charged £12.50 a day.

I commuted with public transport during the lock down. It costed me a fortune because I had to call Uber most of the time due to ‘signal problems’ You Know that is part of the sabotage of public transport so people move in cars.

I’m a Londoner and my kids are Londoners and we got something like 15 nationalities in family: Scottish, English, Moroccan, Iraqi, Swedish, Peruvian, Colombian, and Argentine.
