    Turned out a great build. Recently done a King Tiger. Still trying to pluck up the courage to weather it. As for accuracy in the colour, does it matter. If you're happy with it that's all that matters. People who are quick to judge you on acuracy have got nothing better to do and really need to get a life.

    Great video, nice job. Good paint scheme, paint it the way you like. I have just finished the assembly of this model. I had the same issue with the front of the casemate , rather then cutting off the bottom, I sanded both the upper hull and the front a little at a time until I got just the right fit. It was still tough to do. Another issue I had was, I broke off 4 of the spare track brackets with my 10 thumbs. I used the leftover brass from the photo etch fret to make new ones. One last note, before I started the construction, I went through the instructions and used an orange highlighter to X out the early version side of the instructions.

    For the tank's track jig, there were tiny nubs on the other side of it that connected to the side of the track pieces however, you had to tape some parts of the track to the jig or else it would fall as you glued the tank tracks together.

    I like the camo. I like how you didn’t over do the weathering with massive chipping, rust, mud, and so on I like how you build out of the kit no aftermarket tracks, PE or a metal barrel. I’m wondering why you didn’t continue the camo on the barrel? I’m currently building tamiya’s Jagdtiger so. Any information about what was and what was not done could be helpful. I also very much like the pictures in the start of your video ! Thank you for posting

      @ModelNerd  Рік тому +1

      You might want to check out various historical and modern camouflage schemes. Lots of those with straight lines. Even a dead straight line can be effective in breaking up the outline of a vehicle. And while there may not be lots of straight lines in nature, tanks don't always fight in nature.

    Takom has the best quality next to Tamiya. The fit of the parts and the clarity of the instructions are so welcome after dealing with some of these other model companies. *cough*Revell*cough*

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 роки тому +1

      Definitely! Tamiya (old SU-85) and Takom (Mark I tank) were the first two kits I built when I got back into the hobby. Takom have a great balance between detail, quality fit, and not have a zillion parts to build something like a single headlight (ahem...Dragon).

    Really nice job! I really enjoyed this video. One thing i noticed, keep in mind I’m not completely sure but I think the red is to red for the red primer if that makes sense. I think it would be a dull red brown with more red than brown not like this stark bright red. Also do you have a figure painting video? I just bought the takom chieftain mk5 and that’ll be a treat to build. Keep it up 👍

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 роки тому

      Yes, I had a similar thought. The colour I have used is AK RAL 8012 Rotbraun, which is the correct RAL code for the German primer. But I was also surprised that it looks so bright. Strangely, if I Google "AK 8012 Rotbraun" the colour samples are much darker and one of the bottles looks totally different. So I'm not sure what's going on there.
      I don't have a figure painting video at the moment because I'm really not very good at figures, but I just bought the AC Models Lancaster crew so that needs to change :)

    I have to agree a good build and I like the final camo. Those built up tracks are not as easy as they look to get together.
    As a challenge I can strongly recommend the Zvezda 1/35 T 90 as a build. Its the opposite of the blitz builds and very detailed. The turret is a kit in its own right but unlike a lot of kits you are not fitting parts and making detail you won't see in the final model

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  4 роки тому

      Cheers Allan. I do like the full interior kits, but it's always a challenge to think about how they can be configured for viewing. For the King Tiger I left the turret separate - still got a 'KT maintenance' diorama in the pipeline (somewhere!).

    • @allanrichards6448
      @allanrichards6448 4 роки тому

      The Zvezda kit is not a full interior kit, it just has really good external detail. I have made the RFM Jagdpanther full interior kit and it was a mega build. To display more of the interior on that I dremelled large cutouts in the hull as if the tank was presented in a museum for exhibition. Even with this it was still a challenge to display as much of the interior as possible.

  • @ocsplc

    dear Model Nerd: what is your philosophy on your builds vis a vis the condition of the model? by that i mean some modelers build the kit with all of the components and elements in place and then paint and weather but they don’t presume the model has seen action or have damage from use or combat. others like me present the opposite: a tank or tank destroyer which has been used and has the tools and equipment sometimes missing or placed in a different location etc.. I’m always interested in modeler’s approaches to their work

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  9 місяців тому

      It varies to be honest. Sometimes I like them factory fresh, other times a bit dirtier. I'm not generally a fan of large scale chipping though.

    I think that's a great build. Shame that there were some issues with some of it (front superstructure/tracks) but overall, it does look like a Jagdtiger. Takom instructions also leave a lot to be desired.

    Good job. I'm going to say that the fit issues were a direct result of the pieces being molded that large. When they are that large, a certain amount of shrinkage and warping will be the result. As, obviously; you found out first hand. Nevertheless, it turned out quite well.

      The two halves are needed earlier on to align the suspension arms (which is odd because the fit is so good there is no wiggle room). So maybe they are trying to reuse the jig? But if they made each side slightly wider, they would fit the tracks individually without being combined.
