I'm 74, & I seldom have an assistant, So Godox V1 and "Pocket strobe" work well for me. Also, the softboxes, etc., are high quality and inexpensive.

Hi Tim! We met a few years ago at LightPro on Hilton Head Island. You take amazing Portraits! I am still appreciating those that you captured of my daughter and her friend, who were both models there! I just purchased a Good V1 for use with my Sony a7III. You videos are very inspiring!

You have the ad200 and the ad200 pro to check out. If your make a small kit you need that for the sun. They work in most cases. The evan have a piece to where you can combine 2 to work seamlessly.

The speedlight set up actually is my location kit except for very large assignments. For my canon cameras I have both Godox triggers. They work well.

Bill, I've just put my toe in the water on using this type of small lighting for ANY of my work. But, I am impressed and will continue testing it out. I'll get some of their bigger units and modifiers. This stuff may not last as did the older famous brands, but that's okay. There was a day when you bought your Hasselblad FOR LIFE. Then I went digital in 1999, and was getting a new camera every year.
This is the way it goes.
      Thanks for watching!

No meters. Gave them up in the late seventies and switched to Polaroid tests, common in commercial work. Continued that way until digital 20+ yrs ago. Also, you get to know your lighting gear.

Hi, I know this is kind of an old video, but I have a question for you, are you sure that softbox you show is a 24x24 inch? it seems it might actually be the 32x32, would you be kind enough to corroborate this for me, I'm about to purchase one from Amazon and don't want to get it wrong, thanks and great video by the way.

Hey Tim, I was thinking of making my own scrim reflector on wheels. I was thinking of buying one of those clothes racks on wheels and just wrapping a white sheet around it. Do you think that would work? Or would I be better off building it out of PVC pipe?

    • @TimKellysMasterPhotoTechniques

Is there a real difference between a softbox and umbrella? Which purposes do they serve?

    • @TimKellysMasterPhotoTechniques
      @TimKellysMasterPhotoTechniques  3 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching! Simple answer, they both modify the light, basically converting a small source to a bigger softer light source. Much more useful for portrait and product photography. Ultimately, size and shape, convenience of set-up, storage and cost are important considerations. Lastly that "shape" of the light, round, square or rectangle (in the reflections / catch lights) matters to some photographers.

When i put it in manual or multi mode it immediatly starts firing non stop. I don't do anything, i don't push the shutter, nothing. It's just on my camera and i put it in manual mode and it just trips. Idk what i'm doing wrong but it's really really weird.

I also have one 400 w/s Godox light. They all seem pretty tough. But... we'll see The XPro trigger controls all the strobes from the camera. So far so great! I bought my Hasselblad way back in 1972. It still work wonderfully. I put an Aptus 80 mp for a job and it worked great! I went digital in 1994, and stopped shooting film in 1997. My Nikon D700 (10 years old) still works great but the D850 is just too much fun!

Thanks for watching and commenting, Bill. I've owned all the BIG backs for my "Blad" and went filmless in 1999. (Though I still love shooting and processing film). My first daily workhorse was the Kodak 560 which I loved. I even did a FOVEON camera for a short time .. $65K for a PC laptop with a lens. Wow, we've come a long way.

You may recall that I was in the MARS class you mentioned. I use what you taught us all the time.
I recently purchased three V1s and watched this video earlier this week and appreicate you sharing your methods. For those who need a tutorial on how to operate the V1, I just watched Rob Trek's tutorial and he does a really nice job with explaiining all of the V1 functions - ua-cam.com/video/1_GZcZomxtc/v-deo.html
Thanks again for continuing to share your knowledge and methods.
