So you just gonna ignore the whole part that pointed these women are wiling participant also looking for a man and they turn down men who don't fit their requirements ?
@@hikari9433That is why they divorce so much. They never imagine reality. They imagine K drama fantasy. The table turns and the men often find themselves left with kids, old parents of his own and a farm to take care of when their Vietnamese wife left. The lesson is, stay single if you are not ready to treat the other equally as a human yourself. Hire a helper or a caregiver at a fair rate instead of dumping all those duties on one person like a slave.
@@user-yj6bx7md5l you think the women don't have requirements of their own ? The Korean correspondent said it herself, some Vietnamese women change their mind or turn down men they believe don't meet their standards. Being equal in a relationship doesn't mean having the exact same roles. In a family, if one partner is working full time, of course the other one who stays at home is expected to take care of most of the house and the family. If the men also expected their wives to have a job and then come home and take care of stuffs, then you could've say they want a servant, but here it is not the case. Why is that when women are expected to take care of house duties we call it slavery but when men are expected to work brutal hours to actually pay for the food, the bills, water, the kids school, etc. No one pay attention ? That double standard is also what creates divorces.
If the men is looking for future wife to help in farming, do housework & taking care of old parents, they aren't looking for wife, more like looking for maid.
As the news report observed, there is an expectation on the part of the Vietnamese women that the marriage will result in economic support for their aging parents. In other words, the Korean men will be working not only to provide for their own wife (who will probably face some limitations on her own ability to work and contribute financially) and children, and to support their own aging parents in Korea, they will also take on the economic burden of supporting their wive’s parents in Vietnam. Many of these men will be worked into the grave.
It's like saying : "if women are looking for a future wife to go to work, bring the money, pay the bills, they aren't looking for a husband, more like looking for an ATM." Everyone in a family have a role to fill in order for things to run smoothly. if the man is working, the woman mostly take care of the house and the family. if both are working, both take care of housework and family. If the woman is the one who works then the man take care of the family. Love is not enough to keep a marriage afloat.
They asked, he answered, but that dont mean literally, every husband expects a wife to help him. If a wife doesnt want to help her husband, then that is not a husband, that is a sugar daddy.
The Korean gov is fighting the problem the wrong way, doing everything else but addressing the root of the problem. Overworked people who earn an average income while living costs are rising & they cannot spend time with loved ones, either because they're working late or too tired from work. Smh

The truth be told - Korean men are not looking for a partner alone, they are looking for a woman who will look after them, their children, and their parents so the responsibilities that his places on Korean women is immense. This is why they are not getting married. This is a Confucian culture.
To have a balanced take, the women are also not just looking for a partner alone, they are looking for a provider who can provide an income for her needs and desires. However, only Korean men who make well above average can provide that, and that's only like the top 30% of Korean men, that's why Koreans are not getting married, cuz 90% of women want 30% of men and are not willing to settle for less.
Around 2000s many women who were married to Koreans run away from Korea and told their horror stories. For some time our Newspapers were full of such interviews and their reason of escape. Such agencies are now illegal in our country, it's considered as human trafficking now.

The korean government should do more to promote marriage. If you want young people to have children, then do more to support them. Pass labor laws to require only 40 hrs/per week for all workers, offer free child care for all families to release financial stress, etc.
When korean mans worked 7 days aweek birth rate wasabout 700percent higher than today's. Work culture is part of the problem. The real problem is that young people feel more free without marriage and having kids. Also womens are currently more educated than men in terms of college. and refusing to take the traditional role.

Looking back at my wife’s village a lot of the women would marry men from China, or other first world countries. The money that came from the marriage has brought their parents new houses, cars and more land. It’s now well known that women bring in money than the boys who struggle making a living in a mostly poor country. Some critical information that you did not include was the surplus male population in South Korea. Government policies in the 1980s and 1990s was to encourage families to have a only one child and the cost of raising children had mushroomed as a result of urbanization and the need to secure competitive higher education. Also, due to Confucian values that required a son to continue the family, perform ancestral rites and provide economic support for retired parents, there was a strong preference for male children. Despite laws intended to prevent it, the result was sex selective abortions with many female pregnancies being terminated. This created a huge disparity between the number of male versus female births ( 108.6 male per 1 female birth in 1985 and 112.5 in 1990). Those babies are now adults and we are seeing the end result in the inability of many Korean men to find a Korean wife. When I was working there 22 years ago this was correctly predicted to be a serious societal problem in the future. The only possible solution to the male surplus is foreign wives. It does not help that South Korea does not permit dual citizenship. One thing that would help would be for the South Korean government to stop removing Korean citizenship from Koreans who settle abroad and obtain citizenship in their country of residence, which effectively limits the ability of their daughter’s to participate in the marriage pool in their ethnic homeland. We have a huge Korean population here in Canada, including my wife and daughter, and it is a major impediment and stress that they are forced to either abandon all ties with home or live forever as aliens in their country of residence.
Interesting insight. I was unaware of the huge male vs. female birth rate in Korea during the 80s. Also, the issues with only having a single citizenship.
Agree with all your points except dual citizenship. Your wife lives in Canada and should have Canadian citizenship. All people should belong to one country only. She can still visit Korea as tourist.
@@zfranke3dome That’s your opinion Mate. Like most of my family and many (if not most) people I know, I am a dual citizen myself. There is no rational reason why I would abandon one citizenship for another. When I was a youth one of my teacher’s told me that citizenship is the last form of slavery, but it was many years before I fully understood what he meant, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I think as a species we should move towards global citizenship and eliminating borders, (while simultaneously reducing the size of the human population and our impact on the planet).
The Vietnamese brides divorce their Korean husbands as soon as they get citizenship then bring their lovers from vietnam over and marry them. and the korean men are left to grumble on the internet LOL.
As a Vietnamese, I feel uncomfortable about this. Vietnam is developing economically very quickly and remains neutral during the war, Vietnamese girls will no longer have to marry foreign men for money, even foreign women will marry Vietnamese men. Korea has chosen to follow the West, which may become a battlefield after Ukraine, Palestine, Israel... then there will be no more Vietnamese girls who want to marry Korean men.
Of course it's not love. The video makes it clear. They're both getting married for benefits that comes with having a partner. And you do realise that for most of human history, marriage was not done for love, right? It's relatively recent. And in many Asian countries, it's a still prevalent thing
It's been decades for Korean men to marry poor asian women. The difference was that before poor & middle aged men in rural area used to marry these women but now days middle-class urban men kind of prefer them. What about us? Many Korean women choose not to marry unless certain conditions are met.

Comment as a South Korean woman. It's a bizarre marriage on the surface, but it's actually a pretty reasonable marriage. Many Korean women choose to live in the city or to be career women, or just live alone. This is the biggest reason why men in rural Korea are delaying marriage. However, in the Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese cases above, the majority of women have experienced rural life so are not opposed to it, and they need to support their families back home. So, in my opinion, what Korea needs is not to portray their decisions as unfortunate and to passively consider their choices, but rather to respect their decisions, wish them well, and help them integrate into society. In addition, there is a growing trend of Korean women marrying men from these countries.
Regarding the last sentence, an average South-East As;an man has no chance of marrying a woman from a developed country, let's just be 100% honest, he needs to have some kind of wealth, at least in the top 10-20% of these countries . I just watched a documentary last night about something similar on the other side of the world: men from North America seeking brides from Eastern Europe. It seems to be a trend going on in a lot of places. In countries where women have more lifestyle options outside of marriage and motherhood, either they are only interested in getting married/having children under certain conditions or they are opting out altogether. The men get frustrated by this so they go to countries where women are more financially vulnerable or have fewer options. And the usual recurring theme is these men want to be able to pick a bride the same way they'd pick out a car. No real attempt at getting to know one another and making sure they're even compatible. Most of the time they don't even care that they don't have a language in common. Why would you legally attach yourself to someone you can't even communicate with?? The foreign potential brides are looking for a better life and the men are looking for a live in maid that they don't have to pay for.

It is not a completely by choice. Some lady take that risk to get out of poverty, it was a desperate decision for themselves and their family. That decision could end up bad like experience abuse or even death. It is the same as stepping into a man car in a street.
A lot of "adults" from poverty countries sometimes either have no opportunities, or worse, don't know better i.e. just exposed to the maid-like wife culture. And for those people, that's the only opportunity for them.
@@annat6249 uhm like women seeking men who can offer them a better lifestyle is a new thing ? And people in the west who marry partners after only a year or two of knowing each other don't exist ? These practices happens everywhere. Even in the west we have the business of matchmakers and it's literally common amongst women to say stuffs like "marrying a rich guy to avoid working a job or avoid spending their own earned money". Plus, abusive relationships happens all the time, the fact that arranged marriages are less of a thing in the west hasn't decrease the number of toxic and abusive relationships. In fact studies have found lesbian couples have a high divorce rate and the highest rate of domestic violence while they're supposedly the ones marrying for "love" only.
Often, Vietnamese women get beaten, stabbed to death, taken their opportunities to learn Korean away by their husbands, etc. They are treated as some property not a human. Those women are escaping like refugees. The Korean men can end up victims since they didn’t marry out of love but by desire or needs. They spend thousands of dollars on an agency to BUY their wife but get a divorce. Then they face harsher reality, where there’s no wife, but children traumatized, old parents with lighter pocket. Many tragedies happen from this type of marriage. People are not against international marriage, people are against the marriage where a wife is bought and treated violently after.
@annat6249 you mentioned it- to get out of poverty. If that is the only choice they see to better their lives, so be it. At the end of the day, we all make a gamble in life. There is no guarantee in your decisions. It's better to do something than thinking of what if? Even for people who found a partner, not necessarily from other places. Some still suffer from those things. Again, some of us are privilege on having the freedom to choose in what we do with our lives.

I am a single Korean woman. Marriage in Korea is very expensive and more like transactional. Divorce rate is probably 50%. Korean woman need to make money, serve husband and his family, have kids and raise kids all alone. So for highly educated Korean woman it is wise not to. It is critical for Korean men to choose woman for young age and pretty face.
Well it is what it is it's a win win because men get what they want and the women of developed nations can live alone with their cats and be bitter about men all day.
As a young man from india i wonder doesn't the husband in Korea also makes money and pays for the family and helps in raising kids, it's not like everything would be left to women.
But you forgot to mention, kids are very expensive to raise in Korea, and women's expectation of men are way too high. After having a career, women tends to be unrealistic about criteria's for men, and end of living alone for the rest of their lives.

The bride from a farming village in a developing country weds a groom from a farming village in a developed country. The irony. She dreamed of the glitzy k-drama life and got the same damned life as back home, back to farming.
Good lord... I was just going to comment that at the end of the day it's the Vietnamese woman's choice, and I hope she doesn't end up on a farm with some (desperate to marry) Korean guy and literally the first guy is a "farmer looking for a wife." Not saying there's anything inherently bad about farming or being a farmer, but is it worth leaving Vietnam and your family to move to a farm (in South Korea) to do hard labor in conditions that are similar if not worse than home??? If that's the case the girl might as well stay at home as the abiility to access the Korean financial system, in order to somehow live a better life, might not be as wonderful as korean dramas make it seem to be. Why them move? Because of the exchange rate? Her future children's ability to attend college in Korea? A Korean passport? Sure... but the tradeoff could be the entirety of her youth and happiness. Not worth it if you ask me. And there are plenty of international marriage horror stories online about Vietnamese and Korean marriages. As an American, I have both Vietnamese and Korean friends. Both are wonderful people. But this show isn't about the American experience. It's about SE asians moving to east asian countries like Korea. Ultimately, I think the happy endings are a minority. The marriage brokers are the only ones really benefitting.

I'm already a maid in our house, my husband is still dissatisfied, he wanted me to be a maid and find a job as well.
@frankh.5378 it's true, high class Asians (Korean, Japanese) look down on southeast Asians Vietnamese, Filipinos, Cambodians and Thai because they're poor. It's like Canadians and Americans looking down on Mexicans and Central America countries Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, etc.

This is the same 'unfortunate' word to describe men who are in countryside in Korea who Korean girls do not want to marry. That is not racism. That is called life.

Finding marriage before finding love? How can that ever work?
My local hairstylist played matchmaker, introducing her sister-in-law’s sister to me. So I flew Vietnam to meet her.
Someone in the comments has some sense 😂
You don't have what man wants to begin with so why should a guy even bother especially when you have way too many liabilities to be asking for standards. By the way I'm not saying you but some of the women I've seen on UA-cam and other social media accounts especially the one who are overweight and have kids plus consumer debt That's a bad deal for a single childless man to deal with

He’s only looking for a farm hand, housekeeper, and nurse maid. Good luck with that.
They all wanna maid but are they willing to be maid too .., cook , clean nd work . 🤷🏾♀️ I grow up working nd I ‘m used it I love it I can’t see myself sit home 24 hours cook nd clean all day ugh boring.
What are the women looking for then? How come those men don't want them?
Well , if you applied that logic to her, what's she "only" looking for as well?
@@Cxs1a3 Careful now. Forming logic is a big ask.
@@Cxs1a3 why don’t you tell me instead since you’re so smart.
They seem like a cute couple, hopefully they remove the language barrier at some point. I don't how long ago this was filmed but I hope they're doing well and maybe we can get update on them.
Nothing wrong with vietnamese women
@@chriIIe Subjective view
The bride from a farming village in a developing country weds a groom from a farming village in a developed country. The irony. She dreamed of the glitzy k-drama life and got the same damned life as back home, back to farming.
This is awful and terrible. I hate this.
Your mom would love this
small d koreans smh
If those women are complaining, why are you?
Nice seeing you here bro@@thepassportog
@@alice_agogo I think you're talking about your mom!
I wish they will be both happy!
Women around the world are waking up. Some women are rejecting a life of servitude. Men need to be better partners and society needs to show respect for women or this problem will continue to escalate.
Many comments here seem to come from privileged families. Please understand that sometimes it's win win situation. Any woman who is opting for something like this they would not come from affluent families in any case. They see this as an escape and a way to earn money to support their parents back home. In a best case scenario both benefit from it.
And there Vietnamese women are proud of their uncle Ho to give them a chance to live in a better place rather than Vietnam 🇻🇳
