Hey many thanks Philomena. I have a lot of videos on my channel about the 1798 Rebellion. It beats me why Belfast City Council largely ignores the huge role Belfast citizens played in this whole period of history. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
@@TomMcClean I used to look out on the far-off Castlereagh Hills from my bedroom when we lived behind Stranmillis University! I have subscribed to your channel. I really think we need a major tv drama series set in 18th century Belfast. SO much is out in the public domain about the 19th century city. It would be great to expand Belfast residents' awareness of this. Hello from Notting Hill, London! x
Ah Philomena I'm just an 'ole eejit having tremendous fun on UA-cam. I have zero expertise for the likes of that. I do like your idea of a drama series. There are so many old buildings and streets still around that could be used. You could even pull in streets and buildings from other towns and villages and then there is the olde worlde real village at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra. So many film crew and actors about here too and film studios aplenty. I know the Stranmillis area very well. I have filmed the old Friars Bush graveyard and a wee walk down the road. I hope this wee video brings back a few happy memories. Wow Notting Hill! In the 70s this must have been one of the trendiest places to live on the planet! Tom, you are really doing a great job documenting all this history and interesting parts of my home county. It's amazing how much you don't notice when it's staring you in the face! I'm looking forward to getting home and exploring!!
You should see the curious looks I was getting when i was talking to the camera. People must think I'm a complete spacer. I don't care. I think people are so funny. The city centre is full of tour guides leading groups round too. This is real Belfast history that I certainly wasn't taught at school. All we got was English colonial campaigns. War of Roses, Marlborough etc etc We only had a very brief look at WW1 and WW2 and very little on the Ulster contribution and sacrifice. Belfast is full of largely hidden history sitting right under our noses. The old pubs are really fascinating because many hold old memorabilia/architecture and old guys who love to talk about them. I'm glad I have sparked an interest. Best wishes
Tom, these young people you see here 02:27 are called "Hipsters" they are a part of the Millennial Generation, they are all about Art, Technology, Coffee as Free Thinkers. They are one who run Google, Apple, and UA-cam.
hi Henry again, I often think about what Ireland might look like today if the1798 Rebellion has succeeded! Things might have been a great deal different. The thing is too that the Rebellion did almost succeed! Maybe I think too much! lol Best wihes
Another good documentary Tom. Keep them coming.
I love the old Belfast history John. Many thanks for your support. Best wishes from the Belfast Castlereagh hills.
I enjoyed this video from 4 years ago Tom, thanks for the interesting history
Good man Mike!
Thank you, Tom McClean, this is an excellent piece, I really enjoyed it. Keep them coming.

@@TomMcClean Perhaps you're the person to produce or devise that TV series!

Right SoCal. I wouldn't disagree.

The 1798 Rebellion is part of our shared history here. Especially as it was largely led by Protestants many of whom were Presbyterian ministers!
@@TomMcClean yeah your right Tom.

@@TomMcClean Yes, and if I'm right one of their motives was that back then Presbyterians had less rights than Church of Ireland followers or pastors.
Absolutely Philomena. Not only Presbyterians but also Roman Catholics or any denominational grouping that was not part of the Anglican Communion.
