What’s the deal with Stringjoy strings? (my experience)

- One of the best things you can for the tone and feel of your guitar is find the right strings. It's something I'm always experimenting with, and a few years ago I started to dabble in the Stringjoy catalogue. The first thing you'll notice with Stringjoy is the alluring packaging, the second the price tag, and finally, if you make the jump, the tone and feel on your guitar. It's up to you whether all these things are worth the extra money, but here's my story of working with Stringjoy and it may add to the conversation.

I tried out some StringJoy Strings recently and I was pretty impressed with them.
I like to leave them in a baritone tuning.
Heck ya! I really dig them too! I’m not super huge on the argument of tone personally, I leave that to the players, but the feel of these are just fantastic.

@@kostringworks I met the founder of Stringjoy, Scott, when he came on the podcast back in 2015 or so.
We hit it off and worked on several projects together and eventually I became a minority partner in Stringjoy itself.
It’s been a wild ride, but I’ve done everything from assisting with a rebrand to flying to Nashville to rewire our shop. 😅
I wear a lot of hats! Haha!
I use them on my lap steels. The string tension calculator works well for specifying custom gauges for nonstandard tunings.
Oh nice! Yeah so nice they have that.
The new Stringjoys sounded brighter than the dead flatwounds, but both sounded good.

I'm old fashioned (and old), every time I try something other than D'Addario phosphor bronze I'm disappointed. But if the Stringjoy's don't shed and keep sounding good, go for it.
I bought an 8 string baritone set from String joy, the tension was very low and floppy. I bought an Elixir set and it picked up the tension to just right. Looking forward to your 12 string videos. They definitely have a learning curve concerning strings, and tension. And it's miserable changing them and tuning.
Interesting! I don't know the first thing about 8 strings, but man, that sounds fun to play. I will def make a 12 string video, and there's at least a few other folks out there interested in playing guitars with too many strings.

Ok Ok I've been putting off trying them but if I don't like em I'm gonna stick with EB.
So far I’m loving them and absolutely no shedding. I haven’t played EB’s in forever, they still shedding like a snake on a summer day?

Ok I'm gonna try them against the EB aluminum bronze strings.
Not so easy to get the full range in the UK but I'm using them for heavier gauge sets (17's) and they seem decent. However for more normal gauges I use Curt Mangan which are undoubtedly better. However the best electric guitar strings I ever used is Thomastik Infeld blues sliders. Again expensive in the UK but they're so good.
Big fan of Thomastiks!!! I haven’t tried Curt Mangan strings, but you have good taste so I’ll have to give them a go!
Bought 2 sets of StringJoy electric “10s”. Both high E strings snapped on bends. Broke, came apart. Two different guitars.

Yes, it's boring watching you opening boxes of strings. ALL unboxing videos are dreadfully dull. Your content is usually interesting. I'll let this one slide, but please don't ever again use a misleading click bait title and don't ever again do an unboxing video. The snip of Stringjoy's discussion of evening the string tensions was interesting.
Haha word! It hit me as I was doing it, like man I’m just opening these right now in front of a camera. I wanted to show that box in the thumbnail in the outset because of that, but sorry if something was misleading about it! Mainly I just wanted to tell this story to give context that working with small companies is of great value! Appreciate you sharing your two cents!
