    Great advice from Scott on mixing string gauges. I used to try and keep all guitars on similar strings. I now deliberately have some on 8s, 9s and 10s. I think it has improved my technique to be able to swap between gauges and not over bend etc

    Millions of hours spent worrying about differences between different clones of TS overdrives - yet people hardly ever thik about experimenting with their strings and the significant differences it makes to your tone and feel. 45 years of playing, I use Ernie Ball sets on my electric and electro acoustics, must be at least 20 years that I settled on these, 9's on the electrics and 10's on the electro acoustics. When I had bass guitars I used Rotosound swing bass 66's.

    • @TUUK2006

      Strings on electric guitars do NOT have "significant" differences in tone. It's just typical guitarist BS. There's countless examples on UA-cam of players and engineers failing blind testing of strings by ear.

    • @BangkokMusicExchangeLabel
      @BangkokMusicExchangeLabel Рік тому

      @@davidchavez4464 Custom gauges where you use find a mix of string sizes that works best for you & a particular guitar. For example 10 - 46 is a very standard spread of string sizes, but some people feel not quite sure between a 9 - 42 & a 10 - 46. Experimenting with a custom 9.5 - 44 pack such as 9.5 - 13 - 16 - 24 - 34 - 44 is a great option (and this is actually my favourite custom gauge set)

    Really love this tour and the time spent w/ the crew there. Just recently ordered my first strings form Stringjoy: I screwed up a restring some time ago, left me with a half-set; ordered replacements (including a wound G over the usual plain (Dunlop Heavy Core)) & I’ll be putting them on as soon as I can make room for my work table.
    I moved to heavier strings years ago - my hand/finger strength automatically sharps a thinner string (and bending just breaks them - yeah, I’m not very good)…but the *sound* of the heavier gauge on my Tele is just so rich, I’m hooked.
    Thanks again, ‘preciate what you do,enjoy your channel

    So much goes into making strings, yet I know so many people who refuse to pay more than $5 a pack. It seems silly as it's the part of the guitar that we are constantly contacting and intimate with, but people are willing to cheap out on them. They control a huge part of our sound and tone and don't gather the respect that they deserve. Great video. Love Stringjoy Strings.

      Consider trying the same gauge..the tension ratio between strings and size difference may not be worth it to do special sets for each...the extra slinkyness is part of the Gibson sound and feel anyways...jimmy page used 8-38...just food for thought!!

    There's an old How It's Made episode that had guitar strings on it...seeing the close-up of what these machines are doing is worth a look. Fits right a long with the whole shop overview and ideology of this.

    The info. on "alternate" tuning gauges was useful. I've been experimenting with "mountain modal" tuning for frailing guitar.

    I had no idea that process was so manual or that their operation was so hands-on. That's so cool. Really great video. I've been using Stringjoy for about a year now and I love them. I love my hand-signed thank-you card in every order from Mason. :-P

    Very cool video - fascinating to watch their process. I like this small shop approach I will be ordering some of their strings to give them a shot - love their craftman approach to a very specific but surprisingly diverse product range!
