- Given the choice between the 62mas re-interpretation (SPB253j1) and the Marinemaster 200 (SPB255j1)- which would you choose? Today we compare the two new limited edition Seiko Black Series dive watches that are creating quite a stir.
Special thanks to Bezelhouse for lending me the watches- these are available on their page!

black pvd things have the coolest patina over time!
Great review and great watches! I picked up the 62MAS from this review from Bezel House - amazing piece!
my black willard is my first pvd watch after 12 years, match it with orange rubber strap. I like the look and it's fun to wear with casual outfit and fit well on my small wrist.
My god, these are gorgeous - especially the MM200.
Excellent review, as always, and beautifully shot.
Really appreciate it Jason- it’s hard to pick between the two but the MM200 is more suited to have the Black series treatment it shrinks the watch down imho
Great review! I went with the 62 MAS. This is my first PVD coated watch and will not be my daily wear. The NATO strap is the best I have used. The rubber strap is well done. I look forward to the ownership.
Intro is like a documentary.
Keep up the good work man!
PVD…. I don’t think I would buy a PVD coated case as scratches or scuffs would be glaring like a sore thumb . . . However, these variants do look dope. . .
Thanks for the comment Daryl. I am of the same thought as you and only time will tell how the diashield coating will hold up with the pvd as well. I am daydreaming of these being tegimented like Sinn
Ha funny how you mentioned sinn. I only have 1 pvd watch and it happens to be a Sinn 856 S UTC all Black tegimented. It's holding up remarkably well and time accuracy and legibility sinn like. But mm200 most definitely a better looking watch (I have the iriomote).
Definitely agree with you at the beginning about these watches looking cool but not being daily wears. I’d have thought for someone with multiple watches, this wouldn’t be such an issue as you would probably have other more “daily watches”. For me though, I’m still on my long hunt for my first “proper watch”, so this is somewhat more of a dealbreaker
Planning to get the black series willard this summer. Tried one out. Really liked it.
Awesome job on making the review, in my opinion the MM200 is also the winner, also wondering about the inspiring and beautiful piece of music you playing at the intro? 😊
Great review of two very nice Seiko divers. I like the black finish and have owned a couple of similar. The orange touches on the bezel and hands look great - and the bright orange lumed minute hand is excellent!
I think the nato and rubber straps again look great and are the perfect choice for a black case watch. I always wear natos single pass, so all ok with me.
Hard to choose without trying them on. The 62 is on trend and has a nice vintage aesthetic. However, the MM200 may be better for my 7.25” wrist.
I think these have not been selling well as they seem very available and well discounted in the UK.
Much appreciated my friend! If these can be had for a discount I would say they make a great second or third dive watch!
The Nikon lens in the shot is a very nice touch!👌😉
Got my SPB255j1 for £648.00, 40% discount from £1080.
Do tell please. I know I can get one for 20% off from my AD but not sure they can get the model I want.
These are great looking and great overall watches. This is not PVD though it's DLC. Much harder finish.
First, love your channel. Keep it up.
These are really nice but I am personally not a fan of DLC. Sinn do tegimented steel which I think is one of the best materials for non scratch robust tool watch use. Of the two shown I think I prefer the one with the 4:30 crown
Thank you! I think Sinn with their black tegimented is really desirable as a watch to wear everyday. I am looking at the Sun UTC black regiment right now funny enough. I Appreciate your comment and thanks again!
My biggest gripe with these and i own the black series sumo which shares it's issue. The date wheel is white. It should either be cream like the induces or be black with cream letters
Having worn this daily, for the last 5 months or so, I have found a far sleeker way to wear the material strap.
If you feed through the first loop, then go over the second loop, and feed the rest of the strap back under itself, then it sits really nice and tight.
So go through first loop (as normal) then over the second loop and keep feeding back under itself.
Give it a go
Hello SIMO. Just wondering how your watch is wearing? I think these watches look fantastic. I really like the dark color of the pvd coating but worry that it will eventually wear out at any sharp edge.
@@jackprick9797 Honestly, it’s worn fantastically!
I’ve literally worn this daily and it’s held it’s original sharpness, fantastically.
The amount of times I’ve knocked it and thought “oh no, it’ll have a mark for sure” only to look down and notice no scratching or marks. It really has exceeded my expectations.
Lume is elite and I’ve even noticed that the +/- is better than advertised.
I really can’t knock this piece, especially for the price point. You won’t be disappointed.
@@simo1747 how is the situation these days? :)
I watch a lot of watch reviews. First time seeing on of yours. Very well done and your lighting and shots are first rate.
Got delivery of my SPB255 last week and was so disappointed. The bezel on the watch was not aligned at 12 o'clock, and worse than that is the hour hand doesn't line up to the hour marker until the minute hand is past the 5min marker. How can Seiko drop the ball on quality control on a so called Limited edition that is upwards of $1200?
If I can only upload photo comments to show you the issues I had with the unit I received
Sorry to hear that! I have seen some examples with misaligned bezels to chapter rings and that’s when you know it’s a real seiko… hope they improve someday! One can hope
@@perpetuality So true. This is a classic Seiko “feature”.
Bought the 62mas, amazing looking watch but the movement let's it down ,always got to a just and reset every week and the winder is starting to loose it's black coating
Great 👍🏼 video brother!
Thank you friend!
+1 for the MM200. PVD is a good look on it but I'm curious how's nice polishing (some zeratsu) on regular MM200 is done with pvd? And if seiko extra hardens the pvd to prevent scratching.
Seiko is rather nebulous with this information my time spent with both watches I have worn them judiciously and they seem to hold up to regular wear just fine- even changing straps carefully I was presented with no visible marks. This is in part due to seiko adding a hardened coating of up to 500Hv on top of the PVD
Wonderful review as ever
Thank you kindly David!
SPB255 ❤
Hi. $1,200 is the most I could ever afford to spend on a watch. Is the MM200 the best AUTO dive watch for the that price?
I would really recommend it and this is even before mentioning homage watches. I would say buy secondhand you can find them used for under $1000 and at that point it’s hard to say no
I felt mm200 was the best $1200 auto dive about a year ago but with today's exchange rate, it's possible to get into an oris aquis or sinn 104 if you happened to be traveling to europe but don't live there (so you get tax refunded). MM200 has the best stainless steel polishing (zeratsu, a small area but almost mirror like) but movement just not the most accurate. Aquis lugs design makes a big watch wear smaller and so comfortable. And sinn has none of the blings but you can just read the time, so easily and quickly, and it's very accurate. If you only want seiko then MM200 to me is the best bang at $1200, but if you are open and have a chance to visit Europe soon, you definitely can get high quality Swiss or German for that.
@@polygoncoco absolutly true! I can get an Oris Aquis for around 1300 Euros
yes for me, you need to see in person to understand the quality.
“Best” really isnt a good question
Excellent review
Love these watches, especially on these straps. Good to see Americans finally adopting the metric system when taking the watch measurements. Thought it was just guns and ammo that made them transition from the Imperial system the rest of the world dropped!
He's Canadian
The first time since a samurai that a Seiko has got my interest.
Samurai movement was crap and the plastic screen is a bad deal so didn't pull the trigger.
I got myself a 255. using a black strapcode mesh. Speechless
Outstanding
Thank you for watching!
The MM200 is the clear winner
Do you happen to know the name or type of the brown strap?
It's a Seichu strap. Named after a Japanese braiding technique. I believe they're available from Seiko service centres as I haven't been a le to find one anywhere else.
@@andrewbarnes5802 thanks for your help 🙏
I am not sure why these reviews talk about dive watches like anyone is going diving in them!
No protecteed crow, thats a deal braker
OD Green strap…..
Seiko still can't get their bezels to align.
Not even for $1500. Laughable.
