I backed this on KS for roughly $155. I got the Orange boi. I received it last week and have been driving it daily for work. I've been carrying my M2 Macbook Air and a 13" work Lenovo ThinkBook in the laptop compartment, one SmartBag tech pouch and few other odds and ends. Even if the weight of the bag is a little over 3lbs, I haven't really noticed the extra weight from the other things I mentioned. One thing I do miss is that Alpaka does seem to be leaving out is the little key strap that was in my Bravo X Sling v2. I then upgraded to the Sling Max and was without the little key strap. lol Bring back the little key strap!

Great review as always. I'm really enjoying all these new backpacks coming out (Errant Pro, Elements Travel, et cetera). For me, I'm finding it difficult to match the structure and capacity of the 45l Peak Design Travel backpack (simple organisation, two water bottle pockets, huge main compartment, and poles for structural integrity), but it's too bad that the straps are uncomfortable as hell and it has no load lifters. It's good to see all the newer backs backpacks like this one really try to innovate on comfort and hope Peak Design takes note as well.
Agreed that PD could improve their comfort-game (probably the only thing they have left to improve tbh lol) granted I've read that they say their straps are designed to last in the long-term as more padded straps might not make it a decade-plus. I've only been reviewing bags for 3 years now so I can't say for sure lol
13:09 Do the straps not dig into your neck/traps? Because it sure as hell looks like it from this angle especially. Straps look like they're built for someone with completely flat shoulders (and do people with completely flat shoulders even exist?). Least they're nice and wide.
I like the look of this bag for sure. Great to hear that it is comfortable. I like that it looks like there’s some lumbar support and I appreciate the options that help with carrying the load, even if it is heavy.

You were right about the ballistic nylon being over done, but there is a if it's not broke don't fix it kinda thing working I guess. IMO I think travel bags should come with a "dirty" separation option, think shoe compartment or even like the Peak "shelf" design.
Alpaka bags looks and feels great, but IMHO the modular thingy is rather a nuisance. It is just easier to have some pockets for your stuff instead of attaching things which get in the way when you are trying to get in to your bag. Regardless, well built and a really a looker. Get it but without the moduler things

I have to say, this bag is impressive!mMy list of potential Travel Backpacks is getting larger now--I think it easily vies against the Able Carry Max. Hard to find a sweet spot for workable volume for travel, that can also be viable for under-the-seat "personal item" airline travel if need be. In short, that sweet spot between EDC and travel.
Love your reviews and this Alpaka looks mighty tempting. How would you compare the Alpaka 35L with the Evergoods CTB35? Along with your recommended alternatives, the CTB35 appears to be a close neighbor in terms of quality and functionality. PS: Likely due to pros centered on the essentials and the cons focused on the non-essentials, only this Alpaka and the Evergoods’ CTB series have ‘sparked joy’ after viewing almost a hundred travel backpack reviews over the past few days. So many of the bags just leave me with a ‘meh’ feeling. Thanks!

As far as practical usable volume/size-what would be the order of sizing of the PD 30L, this Alpaka one, and the Able Carry Max? Is this one really as large as it claims (35L)?
I had this pack and recently sold it any place interested in buying it know that it will pack significantly smaller than 35 L. 30 L able carry Max holds more than this. 34 L goruck holds way more stuff than this. it is in no way a bad pack but in function, it’s a little smaller than what it says.
Super late to the party but a thorough review as usual - excellent job. Maybe it’s just me but this is very reminiscent of a Peak Design Pack specifically the 30L Travel Backpack but with better admin pockets and side access like the Everyday Backpack. The taller pack and sleek design of the Alpaka similarly to the 30L Peak Travel is deceptive when traveling as it looks smaller than it actually is - I wonder if the Alpaka will pass as a personal carry for some airlines. I am curious, does a pack built with a wider base and tapered top have any benefits aside from looking smaller or is there some benefit in weight distribution and carry? Anyway, thanks again and wishing for your continued success.
I totally agree with this assessment. I was cross shopping the Peak Design 30l with this bag. Even though the PD is rated at only 30l, the main compartment bucket actually looks bigger than this Elements bag, especially when expanded. I also liked the relative simplicity of the PD, which makes it seem very space efficient. But I was a bit turned off by the upside down packing style (straps up when loading main compartment), as well as the general assessment by multiple reviewers that the strap comfort is just okay. Would love to see someone do a direct comparison, especially since the prices are closer to being in line with recent sales at Alpaka.

I was cross shopping these two as well. The weights also appear to be pretty close, with the Alpaka maybe a half pound or so heavier. But if the strap system is that much better, it’s more than worth it
Great backpack with one big flaw: the side handle is on the wrong side! I was going to back it up and then realized what I find to be a very big problem. The side pocket is perfect, but then the side handle is below? What were they thinking? If they can switch the side handle to the same side as the side pocket I will be a backer. Left shoulder swing please (right-handed mode).
Is the Nomatic Travel Pack still ok 4 years later for EDC versus this one? I have lots of tech stuff i need to carry (personal laptop and professional mini pc, big 12'' tablet, Bluetooth Keyboard, food, waterbottle, mouse, phones, keys, papers, power bank, knife).
I wonder if this would fit under a seat in a plane…I know the nomatic travel pack fits under the seat, but hoping this would possibly fit under an airplane seat

This is a great review as always. Was going to buy the able carry max after looking at review and your feedback. But with shipping cost and tax will make it almost 400 USD. However I can get this bag locally with the around the same price as the website. Not be 100% as the able carry max that i wanted but I think it is doable.
One con you mention a couple of times is that it is a little heavy. However, all the alternatives you list are similar or heavier. Is there a lighter alternative to this, around 35 l? Because can’t find it.
its tough finding premium lightweight bags, especially at this size, but some potential options are ULA Dragonfly (but smaller than 35L), Minaal Carry on 3.0, and Arcido Akra (can't rmbr any of their weights off the last two top of my head, but I believe they are on the lighter side)
Great review, helping buying decision. You gave cons to both pen slots and lash points for being too many. Aaron, both are most unobtrusive, out of way and lay flat. Don’t look at them. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your take.

Can you compare nomadic backpacks vs alpaka? I'm looking for a sort of biz backpack for my laptop and a few other items, able to take hiking with water bottle and easy to travel via plane easily with it along with a wheeled luggage
I don't think hiking with a Nomatic Backpack would work, so in that case go with Alpaka (even though it's still more of an urban bag, it would double better for hiking more than Nomatic). If you truly want a great hiking/work bag, check out the Evergoods CPL24 or PLC20

To be more clear...I don't hike much...so I would be using this mostly as a bag for my laptop and some other work items that I can bring to a local coffee shop when I don't want to work at home. And, it would be great if it can work well traveling on a plane (hooking on to my rolling luggage easily and sliding under seat in front of me). As a side note: how are any of these bags better than a typical backpack for school that might be like $50 and probably also has a spot for laptop.
Bro it's possible... but it's big. Granted, it depends on how much gear you travel back and forth with, but if you've just got a regular set up then this is just gonna be too big - try something around 20-25 liters. I can give recs if you need

It’s ok for EDC because it’s not big enough for travel. It claims to be 35L but the main compartment is smaller than my 30L Able Carry Max. This Alpaka travel bag is now sitting on the floor unused. The funny thing is that it was advertised at 35L but the label on the bag said 32L - I highly doubt that its 32L. (I bought the XPac version on KS)
Was deciding the Alpaka Elements Backpack and Peak Design EDC, and ended up with Peak Design. But still the Alpaka had the minimalist look that I was actually after, plus I already had some of its modular products, but couldn't find any review from here. Now am looking for a review for a sling-like bag that could fit up 16-inch laptop, like Aer Travel Sling 2. Any luck that you will be doing a review on this VS the Aer Tech Sling 2?

Thanks dude! Both bags you mentioned are really big for EDC - you sure you need that big? I usually use 18-22L for my day to day - these bags are 30+L. Having said that, both are amazing, I’d say able carry is a better pick since it’s smaller

I've been looking for a review of this bag! Backed it the moment it came out to upgrade from my AER Daypack cause I found that I needed my bag to do alot more than just carry my daily essentials.. I needed to carry travel stuff for my weekend trips away from home once a month and my daypack couldn't handle it so I end up carry two bags on my weekend trips. Got it with their travel cup, wetbag and shoe bag ... really hope its worth the $$
Hi Aaron! I love the videos have been trying to find an EDC for my office. I’m torn between black ember shadow and the Alpaka Elements regular backpack. I know you haven’t reviewed the elements just yet, that being said if we assume that the regular backpack is a scaled down version of the travel pack (minus some secret/hidden pockets etc) or in general what alpaka brings to the table, which one would you recommend? Even though I haven't reviewed it, I'd go with Alpaka. Better design, lighter build, better materials, and better price/value (at least, that's what I would assume having reviewed their other products)

I would say if you are in the market for a new travel pack it's absolutely worth getting, I was really impressed with it - plus it's hard to beat Kickstarter prices. As for this vs the PD Huckberry sheeeeet that's a tough one. I'd let the timeline dictate your decision. If you don't mind waiting 6 months for the KS to deliver, then go with Alpaka. If you want it sooner, then PD all day
Apologies if this is a silly question, but I have never backed a Kickstarter before and see warnings about not potentially getting the "reward". Is that really the case?
not silly at all! so like any product that you buy online, you are taking a risk, and Kickstarter has sliiggghtly more risk. Sometimes rewards get delayed, and every now and then rewards never come at all (but this is increasingly rare). Having said that, Alpaka has run 11 Kickstarters and they are pros, all of them have been delivered on time, so there is basically a 0% chance you won't get your reward. Hope that helps!

thanks mate! I'd say it's comparable to the Aer 3. As for outer materials, they are both top tier - can't go wrong with either! I'm not crazy about the look/feel of X Pac, but if you live in a super rainy area then it might be a good idea :)
Rewatching this rn… if I get this right: the Alpaka is 35 liters and 52 x 31 x 20 cm, right? The Peak Design 45 in its “normal” state is also 35 liters but 56 x 33 x 23cm? WTF? How can this be? I mean the PD looks bigger from pics and vids but it is considered to also being 35 liters… Did you ever compare these two? What would you say?
Overkill with the pockets. When fully packed, many of them will not be usable. Same goes for the internal lash points in the main compartment for the HUB ecosystem accessories - not really usable. The straps are really great though - super comfortable - Alpaka is amongst the best out there in this regard. Great review.
so the reason is that some luggage handles are shorter than the actual bags, so if the bags go vertical then the bag will be taller than the handle, which doesn't work. This is usuaully the case with larger travel bags, like this one

Hi , I can say this backpack is inspired by Goruck rucksacks , or may be fancy version of Goruck backpack . Though this bag misses the simplicity and sturdiness of what Goruck has . At first , you may find Goruck missing out on imp features, but that’s how tough backpacks are I guess . Do check with Days owl , brown buffalo, Alpha one niner backpacks . Also something to check on different bag by Gobi gears roll backpack .good luck

The layout of this bag was heavily influenced by the Able Carry Max, not necessarily the Goruck line. Be advised that it’s not 35L as advertised - the main compartment is less than my 30L AC Max. Very well built but not what was advertised on Kickstarter.
@@mindbendernine Yet, they are still advertising this as 35L post-Kickstarter. That is helpful info though--since I have been comparing this versus the AC Max. If I am not mistaken the AC Max claims 25L in the main compartment--so perhaps, the difference lies how the pockets are distributed for space. I agree that the two bags appear to be very similar in many ways.
Good review! I love the Alpaka company! I already have an Element Tech case max from them that I love! The Element Travel backpack is very good, but I find it way too expensive! You can get an Osprey Tropos 32 (same type of bag) for $180us. It's still a $100 difference. The 35L of the Element Travel is slightly smaller in its measurements than the 32L of the Tropos. I understand that the nylon of the Alpaka Bag is thicker than that of the Tropos, but is it really useful? The answer is no. The nylon of the Tropos is very strong despite the thickness, dwr, and the bag is a little lighter. In addition to the trampoline net style back which is less warm than a cushioned back. Brief. I would have bought this bag if it wouldn't have been too expensive compared to the competition.
Yea, Osprey is basically a billion dollar company and can afford to have lower prices, so for price-sensitive buyers, Osprey will always provide more value

Ehhh, that seems like a very small thing, and imo shouldn't be a reason that you don't back the campaign.
Is the Nomatic Travel Pack still ok 4 years later for EDC versus this one? I have lots of tech stuff i need to carry (personal laptop and professional mini pc, big 12'' tablet, Bluetooth Keyboard, food, waterbottle, mouse, phones, keys, papers, power bank, knife).
They both have their pros and cons but should be able to handle what you are carrying.
I wonder if this would fit under a seat in a plane…I know the nomatic travel pack fits under the seat, but hoping this would possibly fit under an airplane seat

Howdy! I know this is an old video, but I’ve been struggling to find any comparisons of this and the Able Carry Max. A lot of folks seem to say this feels/packs smaller than the Able Carry despite the claimed literage difference. Do you happen to still have access to this bag to provide the internal measurements? I don't have the Max so can't say, but Alpaka is def known for having smaller capacity than advertised.

This is a great review as always. Was going to buy the able carry max after looking at review and your feedback. But with shipping cost and tax will make it almost 400 USD. However I can get this bag locally with the around the same price as the website. Not be 100% as the able carry max that i wanted but I think it is doable.

One con you mention a couple of times is that it is a little heavy. However, all the alternatives you list are similar or heavier. Is there a lighter alternative to this, around 35 l? Because can’t find it.
its tough finding premium lightweight bags, especially at this size, but some potential options are ULA Dragonfly (but smaller than 35L), Minaal Carry on 3.0, and Arcido Akra (can't rmbr any of their weights off the last two top of my head, but I believe they are on the lighter side)
Great review, helping buying decision. You gave cons to both pen slots and lash points for being too many. Aaron, both are most unobtrusive, out of way and lay flat. Don’t look at them. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your take.

Can you compare nomadic backpacks vs alpaka? I'm looking for a sort of biz backpack for my laptop and a few other items, able to take hiking with water bottle and easy to travel via plane easily with it along with a wheeled luggage
I don't think hiking with a Nomatic Backpack would work, so in that case go with Alpaka (even though it's still more of an urban bag, it would double better for hiking more than Nomatic). If you truly want a great hiking/work bag, check out the Evergoods CPL24 or PLC20
@@Nomads.Nation Thanks. I checked out Evergood. seem nice, but not as aesthetically pleasing as Alpaka. To be more clear...I don't hike much...so I would be using this mostly as a bag for my laptop and some other work items that I can bring to a local coffee shop when I don't want to work at home. And, it would be great if it can work well traveling on a plane (hooking on to my rolling luggage easily and sliding under seat in front of me). As a side note: how are any of these bags better than a typical backpack for school that might be like $50 and probably also has a spot for laptop.

Bro it's possible... but it's big. Granted, it depends on how much gear you travel back and forth with, but if you've just got a regular set up then this is just gonna be too big - try something around 20-25 liters. I can give recs if you need

It’s ok for EDC because it’s not big enough for travel. It claims to be 35L but the main compartment is smaller than my 30L Able Carry Max. This Alpaka travel bag is now sitting on the floor unused.
The funny thing is that it was advertised at 35L but the label on the bag said 32L - I highly doubt that its 32L.

Was deciding the Alpaka Elements Backpack and Peak Design EDC, and ended up with Peak Design. But still the Alpaka had the minimalist look that I was actually after, plus I already had some of its modular products, but couldn't find any review from here.
Now am looking for a review for a sling-like bag that could fit up 16-inch laptop, like Aer Travel Sling 2. Any luck that you will be doing a review on this VS the Aer Tech Sling 2?

I use the Aer Travel Sling as my EDC carry when I am with my kid. That thing packs A LOT of stuff in it. I love mine.
Hi Aaron! been watching all your reviews to find my perfect backpack. I have narrowed down my option between this alpaka vs the ablecarry max. My main purpose is for school and gym use and eventually turn into office to gym use. i usually carry a 16in laptop, couple of notebooks and books for school, pair of shoes and clothes. Thanks dude! Both bags you mentioned are really big for EDC - you sure you need that big? I usually use 18-22L for my day to day - these bags are 30+L. Having said that, both are amazing, I’d say able carry is a better pick since it’s smaller

I've been looking for a review of this bag! Backed it the moment it came out to upgrade from my AER Daypack cause I found that I needed my bag to do alot more than just carry my daily essentials.. I needed to carry travel stuff for my weekend trips away from home once a month and my daypack couldn't handle it so I end up carry two bags on my weekend trips. Got it with their travel cup, wetbag and shoe bag ... really hope its worth the $$

Hi Aaron! I love the videos have been trying to find an EDC for my office. I’m torn between black ember shadow and the Alpaka Elements regular backpack. I know you haven’t reviewed the elements just yet, that being said if we assume that the regular backpack is a scaled down version of the travel pack (minus some secret/hidden pockets etc) or in general what alpaka brings to the table, which one would you recommend? Would love your insight
Even though I haven't reviewed it, I'd go with Alpaka. Better design, lighter build, better materials, and better price/value (at least, that's what I would assume having reviewed their other products)

I would say if you are in the market for a new travel pack it's absolutely worth getting, I was really impressed with it - plus it's hard to beat Kickstarter prices. As for this vs the PD Huckberry sheeeeet that's a tough one. I'd let the timeline dictate your decision. If you don't mind waiting 6 months for the KS to deliver, then go with Alpaka. If you want it sooner, then PD all day

Apologies if this is a silly question, but I have never backed a Kickstarter before and see warnings about not potentially getting the "reward".

not silly at all! so like any product that you buy online, you are taking a risk, and Kickstarter has sliiggghtly more risk. Sometimes rewards get delayed, and every now and then rewards never come at all (but this is increasingly rare). Having said that, Alpaka has run 11 Kickstarters and they are pros, all of them have been delivered on time, so there is basically a 0% chance you won't get your reward. Hope that helps!

thanks mate! I'd say it's comparable to the Aer 3. As for outer materials, they are both top tier - can't go wrong with either! I'm not crazy about the look/feel of X Pac, but if you live in a super rainy area then it might be a good idea :)

Rewatching this rn… if I get this right: the Alpaka is 35 liters and 52 x 31 x 20 cm, right? The Peak Design 45 in its “normal” state is also 35 liters but 56 x 33 x 23cm? WTF? How can this be? I mean the PD looks bigger from pics and vids but it is considered to also being 35 liters… Did you ever compare these two? What would you say?

Overkill with the pockets. When fully packed, many of them will not be usable. Same goes for the internal lash points in the main compartment for the HUB ecosystem accessories - not really usable. The straps are really great though - super comfortable - Alpaka is amongst the best out there in this regard. Great review.

How come all these packs have the sideways luggage pass through massive deal breaker imo
so the reason is that some luggage handles are shorter than the actual bags, so if the bags go vertical then the bag will be taller than the handle, which doesn't work. This is usuaully the case with larger travel bags, like this one

@@Solsden thank you so much! In terms of comfort that’s so tough to say cuz they are very different packs, but since the Able Carry is smaller (30L vs 35L) I’d say it’s more comfortable by default cuz you won’t be able to carry as much.
Hi , I can say this backpack is inspired by Goruck rucksacks , or may be fancy version of Goruck backpack . Though this bag misses the simplicity and sturdiness of what Goruck has . At first , you may find Goruck missing out on imp features, but that’s how tough backpacks are I guess . Do check with Days owl , brown buffalo, Alpha one niner backpacks . Also something to check on different bag by Gobi gears roll backpack .good luck

The layout of this bag was heavily influenced by the Able Carry Max, not necessarily the Goruck line.
Be advised that it’s not 35L as advertised - the main compartment is less than my 30L AC Max. Very well built but not what was advertised on Kickstarter.
@@mindbendernine Yet, they are still advertising this as 35L post-Kickstarter. That is helpful info though--since I have been comparing this versus the AC Max. If I am not mistaken the AC Max claims 25L in the main compartment--so perhaps, the difference lies how the pockets are distributed for space. I agree that the two bags appear to be very similar in many ways.
Good review! I love the Alpaka company! I already have an Element Tech case max from them that I love! The Element Travel backpack is very good, but I find it way too expensive! You can get an Osprey Tropos 32 (same type of bag) for $180us. It's still a $100 difference. The 35L of the Element Travel is slightly smaller in its measurements than the 32L of the Tropos. I understand that the nylon of the Alpaka Bag is thicker than that of the Tropos, but is it really useful? The answer is no. The nylon of the Tropos is very strong despite the thickness, dwr, and the bag is a little lighter. In addition to the trampoline net style back which is less warm than a cushioned back. Brief. I would have bought this bag if it wouldn't have been too expensive compared to the competition.
Yea, Osprey is basically a billion dollar company and can afford to have lower prices, so for price-sensitive buyers, Osprey will always provide more value
