Your attention to detail is ON POINT I’m very meticulous about EVERYTHING I do when I’m working on my bike, and you obviously are the same😎 I’ll be doing the wheels on my ‘07 CR250 very soon, and this video will help me ALOT Mahalo
Kincade, thanks so much for your tutorial. Got my 1970 Honda SL's rear wheel spoked and tuned! Your tutorial was EXACTLY what I needed! Never done this before, and used an archaic tuning stand but it still worked. Thanks again !
Thanks about to build a rear wheel for my yz250, I have 196 deg on the exhaust and 15.5 to1 comp ,works great your 300 would love it.cheers for the wheel info.
Thanks for the details in this video, re spoking/ trueing a wheel has always been intimidating to me. Now I think I can handle it. I have a yz 300 build in process, I'm not so patiently waiting for my cylinder/ head to get back from Eric Gorr, gonna run a 72mm Wossner piston. Power seal and Millenium Technologies are awesome to work with also. I'm excited to see your finish build and will buy some tickets to maybe get lucky and have a chance at winning it
That's awesome! I'll be running a Wossner piston as well for this build. I'd love to see yours when it's finished! Good luck lacing your wheels - you'll find it satisfying.
i foudn undoing the spoke causing tension putting the new one through and reinstalling old one in same position before installing new is a better method than potentially bending your spokes
Hello thanks for sharing i have a question, what if i know the hub and rim match but because i am trying a custom rim diameter i don’t know the length of the spokes.
MXrevival just had a video on lacing and truing. I’m pretty sure Uncle Tony had a method of installing spokes where you don’t have to force the spokes at all. I know I had to do what you did as well. My used rim is a little too beat up. I’m going to have to lace it up again with a new rim. The cerakote looks great as does the whole wheel, and bike for that matter. I like the colors. I’ll be watching this again for sure when I get a new rim as I’ve only done this once before. I thought it was kinda fun.
Also I would have made the same mistake with the truing stand. Thanks for pointing that out. That rear sprocket is so bad ass! It really is like the icing on the cake. Now I’m just going to have to spend more money and buy one 😂
I saw he posted that right as I was about to render my video out haha! Our builds are on similar timeframes for a few components... Stoked to see his YZ finished as well! Thanks a lot for watching, and hope it helps next time you do lace a wheel! I also think lacing wheels is kinda fun. It's a very satisfying task.
Be careful for any offset on the rear wheel otherwise when you install your wheels they will not be running in line,. Front hubs usually dead center but as you see with the rear with different length spokes if you pull the rim to the left or right when trueing it you will change the position of the tyre in the swing arm left or right of the center line and seriously effect the handling.
Im thinking my dirtbike is the trueing stand and a dail caliper will be nice to me... But i dont know what im doing im just thinking how nice it will be with my gold excels onmy vintage ktm
I have a weird question. Is it possible to lace a front wheel hub into a rear wheel rim ? I ask this because 17” supermoto wheels are hard to find for my bike. This way I could have 18” SM wheels. Technically it’d be 2 rear wheels but the front would just have the front hub to suit so it’d bolt back on.
Enjoyed the vid and you explained the process with tips well. What do you think about tapping on the spokes for even sound tone and or torque to a spec and then tweak ?
Great video. Do you use a spoke torque wrench ? I'm starting to think that's my issue because I will get the wheel good and true as you did in the video then torque the spokes to what they call for but then my wheel is all out of being true. It's aggregates the hell out of me.
Great vid Kincade!...worked for me! Question...the aftermarket rims I bought for my xr80 don't have rim lock holes...shoul I drill them and add rim locks? The stock rims had them.
Did you end up torquing all of the spokes? I want to build up a new wheel and I’m just not sure if I want to purchase a spoke torque wrench that I will probably only use once. Just looking for your thoughts on the importance of it?
Great video, what if you had one broken spoke you were replacing. Would you loosen all others before adding spoke or just add new spoke? (its basically true with a missing spoke)
Dont be fooled. Truing a beat up used rear dirt bike rim is not that easy. They have dents from probably 2 rim locks, dents from hard landings, and dents after using tire irons.. truing a new rim is super easy.
Awesome video and cool to see you wearing a Pryme shirt!

Awesome to hear, thanks so much for the comment! Good luck with the CR wheels, sweet you’ve got an 07!

That is great to hear! So glad you found it helpful. Nice job lacing your first wheel!
To have a tenth of your knowledge. Just tenth. I just take my bike in to the shop for everything and anything. You have an amazing gift and talent.
Thanks a ton - it can all be learned! I have not been doing this for very long. You can do it too, if you want to!

Really awesome video. Easy to follow, good techniques and tricks, great editing, and beautiful end result!
Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for the request!

Thanks brother !! I think I can lace my wheels after watching this video !! 👍👍 great and simple explanation
Beautiful wheels and great vid. Not a fan of Shinko but I do understand tires are consumable so no judgement.
Hello thanks for sharing i have a question, what if i know the hub and rim match but because i am trying a custom rim diameter i don’t know the length of the spokes.
I've never had to do this. This was a really cool video with great presentation and easy to follow steps. 👍
Thank you!

I build wheels for a living. This is a good video!
Can I use a tusk hub and a excel rim and any spokes ? RMMC said I can only use tusk hubs and rims. Doesn’t sound right
Nice work I have one question for a dirt bike rear wheel is 1.2mm for an old rim ok is a little wabbling but the bike goes only 100 kmh
Great explanation. Very helpful video. Very much appreciate the time stamps too!
Glad it helped you out!

Is it necessary to torque spokes after truing the wheel?
Do all dirt bikes have the same gauge spokes
How do you know which hole is for the rim lock and for the tube
Doesn’t matter

hi one question the larger spokes where they go?
Great vid Kincade!...worked for me! Question...the aftermarket rims I bought for my xr80 don't have rim lock holes...shoul I drill them and add rim locks? The stock rims had them.
@@killerkork Yep you can drill them!
@KincadePavich thought so. Thanks sir!

Useful but definitely not necessary!
Good video.. How the heck does your thumb bend that far back 10:45.....lol
Great video, what if you had one broken spoke you were replacing. Would you loosen all others before adding spoke or just add new spoke? (its basically true with a missing spoke)
Thank you! I would just replace the one spoke and then true it from there if it needed any work. No need to loosen the rest first!
Does the truing stand really make it a lot easier? Last time I tried the wheel on the bike.
I certainly think so. It's not mandatory, but I think it's very helpful.
@@KincadePavich thanks I went ahead and ordered one. It is so much easier when you have the right tool.
So the tusk rim will fit on an oem hub??
Yep!
Are the Tusk wheels any good?
@@99.3jason yes I’ve had good experience with them
@@KincadePavich Are they heavier than oem? if so do they still feel good?
If you thread all the inner spokes thru first, then the outer, then thread the nipples on, they don't bind as much.
Great job dude
Now I'm craving breaded mushrooms

great video, thanks
Good job
Buen vídeo amigo
Te copiaré algunas cosas 👍
muchas gracias!
14:15 guilty :D
Straight pull hubs are cheating!! Lacing wheels is the best method of making a dirt bike or bicycle, for that matter, yours! All about territory.
why do people charge so much for wheels.. people act like they have discovered a wheel
Your wrong, even tension does not = a true wheel... if this were true all you would need is a spoke tension meter
It is a waste of time having the blue nipples if they are scratched before you even get it laced.
That’s anti seize
@@KincadePavich Ah Is it, it looked like it was all scratched already.
