Salt & Tar: Ep.279- Embrace the Journey
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 бер 2024
- It's not always easy to embrace the journey when the destination is so seductive. Sailing has taught me to slow down and enjoy the here and now. Currently, now that we're in the tropics, I don't care where the boat's going just that I'm on it!
Thanks for watching!
p.s. I try and reply to as many comments as I can but we are still so so busy so please do not take it personally 💕
Much love!!!

Ruth, your narration just keeps getting better and better. The videography and editing ain't too shabby either. I've been watching since you poured the keel and have not missed an episode. Thank you both so much for an incredible journey.
When the destination no longer becomes the goal you are liberated to embrace the journey.
Lovely Ruth. That needs to be on a hat,or a shirt, or a coffee mug, or maybe embroidered on a pillow. Really nicely done
Your Man is a SAILOR, and your narrative is absolutely amazing, sounds like Shakespeare on an Ocean, fabulous! 🇺🇸❤️👍
Turning off the engine key, taking in a reef on the main sail. I watch and think of all the build videos that it took to complete Red. All the years of building the Dream . All the details that went into and led to this video. R&G are a couple of kids that are living the life we wish we had. Loving them.
Just loving the vibe of the channel lately, so peaceful, so relaxing.
You guys deserve this so much after the years of building such a beautiful boat.
The video, the narration, the EXCELLENT musical choices make me want to continue watching a build channel that has converted into a sailing channel.. and you've done it in a superior way to other way bigger sailing channels....
That point on a journey where you forget what day it is... :)
I am a long time sailor and really enjoy your videos. Your written comments are really quite nice. Congratulations for building a boat, being out there, and living your dream.
Thank you so much 🥹
while the rest of the world falls apart, good luck to them,
@@brian.7966 oooh stop it now, the worlds changing all the time! It'll become something great this time, you watch!
And tend to the part of the garden you can touch!
Much love
Cannot wait for your stories from French Polynesia, you have the right boat, the right skills, and the right frame of mind - so it is just a matter of time....
Rediviva has those ancient sounds and an ancient manner of movement and it’s kind of like it’s in us all and have known this way of being all along. Fear and wonder and comfort and chaos and order and all the things all at once. I can feel you proud of this boat. I think you fully know it now. Like you trust it to take where you were meant to be right now.
I love all of your videos, but something about this one is pure MAGIC, and it's not just because of the whales. ❤
What a dream. Love you guys.
Beautiful closing words Ruth.A lovely video.
He's an expert sailor, she's a poet with emotion, the boat is beautiful. Put togetherthe whole is even greater than its parts!
The music was first rate this week Ruth.
so many things that I love about this video!
...but the thing I got a joyful good LOL about was: "whats our heading?" answer "......"
also(not being a sailor myself) this time when one of the sails went up, I got to see a marvelous shot of how they work, that was really cool ...and making an announcement at the beginning that you got "two full nights of sleep" like it was a long deserved reward, really pulled me into what you must experience when you travel powered by nature alone, interesting vibe!
- thanks for letting us come along a little bit
Love you guys, l have lost interest in all the other sailing channels, but not yours, there is something so real about what you are doing, I still havnt been able to watch the episode of swobs departure, 😢, and further your voice is so calming, love your work guys, fair winds and smooth seas, ....God bless
Ruthie deserves a MOBY, best music backing on da tube!
Mate, just a suggestion, I’d put a protective cover over your engine key. Rough weather and a stumble could result in knocking the key and snapping it off. I had to help someone out once when that happened to them.
Good suggestion. I’ve inadvertently busted off a Yanmar key before on someone else’s boat
I remember an uncle who put a key through his kneecap in a minor car accident in the 1960’s. Car design has improved but most keys have not. I little hinged half box thing would do the trick- hinged at the top.
"So, where're we goin??"
"That-a-way"
Works for me, lol ⛵
The humpback whales' ancestors spoke of old wood boats and salty sailors. Yhey where greeting you😊
Wow, I can't believe I have watched since episode one, all those years ago, and you are finally in the tropics benefitting from all that hard work and tough times, and I have come along the whole way too. Fair winds to you both...
That boat !!!! It never quits giving back the love, sweat, and I’m sure a few colorful adjectives you 2 have put into her!!! Perfect boat, Perfect couple, amazing vibe. Far winds and following seas
Another great video, thank you. My week is not complete without your videos
YES! I see you in your element!
Right decision at the right time! Looking forward to a more-than-3-day-passage, kind of ...
As long as you're stocked up enough on provisions, I'd say you can go anywhere you want! Beatuy!
Looking forward to your adventures!
THE SHADOW ON DECK WAS QUITE AMAZING
you"ve gone from a good boat build channel to a good sailing channel. Based on other channels that's not automatic. partly it's because sailing is easy to record on your boat and you don't focus much on walking around on shore. good mix!
I loved the music. you seemed to love the African melody, it was so so much lovely. I wish you the best always.
You have inspired me to start writing again, as I go out on my new boat in search of whales.
It's always a little sad at the end of the video, knowing I have a whole week to wait for the next one. Brilliant as always.
That was the most beautiful “first mates log “ thanks you made my night may the seas be nice and get there safe
Comfortable cruising at 6 knots. Lots of bobbies, whale watching, returning catched fish. Heading further south.
those whales were having so much fun! just6 like you are! awesome video
20:12 to 20:34 is what this channel is all about. Cheers from Morro Bay!
Beautiful trip. Thanks for sharing :) Oh ya, when near the engine key does he tap it to thank the engine, for being good? :)
Another lovely episode, you guys never disappoint. You help me leave all the madness of this world behind 🙂
Outstanding video perfect music your narration Ruth is just a calming as the seas . I would be quite a bit nervous having humpbacks that close to my boat as were you. May the seas be gentle to both of you. God bless stay safe
You both are at a different level to the others. What an amazing video that was. Needs no explanation.
It's only right to go right. Learn french (or Tahitian) and let it all go. You'll never regret it. Love your emotion. Maybe we'll see you down there. And don't forget the eclipse on April 8th, it'll be coming your way.
Your narratives are musical, we wish you both well!!
Great show! You're getting closer. Don't rule out Bara De Navidad as a good hurricane hole. I've based out of here for ten years with no damage to my boat or any of my friends boats. Lots of great restaurants and things to do. Happy Trrails, Dave, S/V Tres Jolie
There's always the Panama canal and the Caribbean to explore😊
Ruth, Your closing is beautifully written.
I sailed for many years with my father. On every trip some random seagull settled on the yacht. It was always named Percy. My father passed a couple of years ago and when it happened we were in northern Michigan and the seagulls were settling on the beach. Percy is always with us….love to you all
Once again a Great Episode, Great Personal discoveries and words we find to describe those Treasures. What Day is this ? It Doesn't Matter as it's a Glorious day to be Alive and Oh how the Sea Can Teach and Remind us of that Thankfulness no mater what Day of the week might be Named, This Day, this very Moment We're alive is A Glorious Gift. And So Dear One's are you both .... you two as you Share this Voyage of Life with us all.
Fair Winds and Trailing Seas
May Blessings Abound to You, Gary Larson
Each week's video is impossibly better than the last. Thanks for bringing us along.

Wow you guys must be so proud of yourselves. Your boat sails beautifully. What an amazing vessel. Keep up the good work. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Ruth, your narration is first class. I would love to see you write a book. It is east just start at the grinning and Finnish at the end. Make the middle bit as long as you like. I did it but have no where your skills with words. Love you both from n.z.
Ruth..you have a great speaking voice and the commentary is as well.
Been following you guys for years… you made it!
I would love to see you guys continue south. Chile anyone? :)
Cute shadow!
When I was a boy, my Dad’s friend had a Chinese junk and my brothers and I spent time aboard both summer and winter. I’m an old man now and this video suddenly revived forgotten memories of the scents of a wooden boat and a happy nostalgia for the days of my youth. Thank you!
Great video, this is one of the l9ngest passages you've done, for a while.
Those whales are awesome.
2 full nights sleep how dare you :)) well done folks keep em coming
You two sure look refreshed after 2 sleeps @Mazatland, yes big loud city good to move on
Kinda hope you will visit South Mexico, Sta. Cruz is a nice size holiday resort town

Cdn. Dave
The sea birds are watching you in awe as you catch a perfectly good fish and then throw it back into the water.
So so good. I feel like I’ve been afforded a serious privilege to be able to turn on my iPad and watch this. This is art, a blueprint, a roadmap for living a life. Take notice…please. We will all be better off.
Good one. Shades of Capt. Slocum.
Yet another BEAUTIFUL video & pithy musings, Ruthie. I so envy your freedom. Thank you for allowing me a small taste of it.
Many years ago when I was sailing my trailerable cutter, we had the company of some dolphins. Acting on a whim, I placed a portable radio face down in the bilge. I arranged a tape of music in the player, and turned it on. The dolphins came and swam close to the side of the yacht for several minutes. It was clear that they liked the music (a Strauss waltz).
You made the right decision heading out of the harbor I don't blame you one bit turns out it was nothing like Long Beach😢 you could always make you some fish tacos they're the best. With ship/home made tortillas 👍👍👍
Very nice ! I think both of you are in your groove. Be safe ! (and find a spare alternator belt)
Another Goodie👍 Continue to Stay Safe and Enjoy 😎
So this is what all the years of blood, sweat & tears has led us all to this special place of the journey to where ever your heart desires, well done!!
Really enjoy y'all making miles under sail 😃
Enjoy! You deserve it after all this years of work.
Thanks for the ride this is cool, been here since the beginning. y'all the best.
I'm so grateful for you two. Your journey has been inspiring. Thank you!!
Beautiful Ruth, I love your daily log entries. The video was stunning and a bit magical with so many whales.
I've been in the water with humpback's. Any time you can see or interact with them is special and inspiring. Also, I got my shirt today!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it.
Still the only sailboat-build that I continue to follow after the launch. This was a particularly good episode today.
Everything looks like it’s going great,I’m so happy for you.Best wishes as you keep exploring 🙂
Just excellent. Have been with you from the beginning. Thank you for the adventure
Love to watch you hoist those sails. They look so real, old school, hand made. All the complex of rigging every bit of it with its purpose. Nice guitar sailing music. So great to be sailing out in the big blue with the birds and the whales. MOST enjoyable for a landlocked Canuck here in Southern Ontario's first week in March.
Looks like an awesome sail. I love your storytelling❤
Absolutely Fantastic "STAY SAFE"
I love these videos so much, the catch phrase it too true. I sort of feel like i am on the journey. Thanks for sharing!!
Finalmente nos trópicos. Boa, divirtam-se.
Just a beautiful boat to see sailing have fun you guys
Great video! Feels like I am sailing along with you!
This really captures the essence of what sailing should be about. The destination really doesn't matter as long as the journey was fulfilling. Kinda how im approaching my boat rebuild and definitely how I'll approach sailing.
Very beatiful 🌺💜👏
It’s great seeing y’all enjoying the sailing lifestyle after all the work you’ve put in her getting her ready to sail
I like the birds
Your journey makes me happy...
Super chilled, you guys and Rediviva have found your groove…and it is beautiful.
Thank you for giving us this wonderful, thoughtful, musical, bountiful, sojourn away from land in a place where the humpbacks breach and the timeless ocean rolls ever onward towards the beckoning horizon.
A much appreciated moment of peace in a mad, mad world.
😎👍🍻
Absolutely the BEST NARRATION I might even enjoy a trip to a dentist with your narration. I wish for both of you
fair winds and following sea in all you endeavors
nice !!! thanks ! i love you that couple....from Prag !!!!!
. guitar 🎸 sequence awesome .
I wish I were young again. Growing up landlocked I didn’t even know sailing the world on a small boat was a thing. I feel deprived.
Thanks for all the hard work editing to bring another wonderful vlog! We really appreciate it 😉😉
ON ON !!
New subscriber, cheers from Squamish British Columbia
