Even though Aang is still technically a 12 year old, the fact that they filmed it so that she towered so high above him is pretty accurate to the lore. Kyoshi was not only the oldest Avatar at 230 years old but she was 7 feet tall in fact. She was in fact one of the most powerful Avatars in history.

I love the fact that since both Sokka and Suki came from villages that kept to themselves up until this point (in fear of the fire nation) *Neither* of them know how to flirt or even what to do when there's an attractive person they want to impress. Zuko's actor carried the show so far though. He nailed the character. His acting is on point, choreography, etc. Same with Iroh. Thought they were better than I anticipated.
I was about to give up on the season. Untill I watched episode 4. That was a great episode. I just don't like when the show focusses on katara and sokka. Idk why but when it's about them the quality of the show drops immensely. But when it's about zuko and iroh and or aang the show becomes very good again Shows thats the writer didn't really know how to write the siblings

She has very monotone expressions and tones most of the time and her lines sound like they are read straight off the script without any actual feelings or meaning behind the words. Most of her scenes just pulled me out of the show when I felt immersed. I also didn‘t like some of the Sokka scenes either, but his acting seems pretty good to me and matches the character. The problem for me was the sexualisation/him falling in love with too many women within what felt like days.

I have never seen the animated show but I absolutely love the live action show. I hear all the time people comparing it to the animation but as a person who is seeing it fresh, I felt all the surprises , excitment and was deeply moved by the show.

This was my experience with ONE PIECE. Never seen the anime but LOVED the live action. It's kinda nice going into these without certain biases, allows you to enjoy the show for what it is.
Essentially kyoshi was saying what vision said in civil war. the avengers presence itself, Our very strength incites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe. Kinda like in never back down the character Jean had a brother who was a champion and he was out n about minding his business and he got challenged and he accepted it, and when the rando lost he came back and unalived the brother sad but it happens.
This show is solid asf. It has its flaws but for a true avatar fan it’s definitely worth a watch. I really enjoyed it. Hope y’all don’t nobody sway your own opinions. 7/10 for me

I've never watched the original show, but this series made sense all the way through. Most people only complain about what's not in it, which is something that can only upset someone with prior knowledge of events. An example would be people who read a book complaining about missing details in a movie adaptation. That's why it's always best to start with the shortest form of media and go up. Usually movie < series < book.
Interesting to note, both shows have about 8 hours of runtime for season 1 and both cover the same major plot points in that time, technically the animation is shorter because of the number of times it plays the intro and end credits. It's not about the runtime, it's about the execution.
They completely removed Aang's first fire bender master,who happens to also be Zhao's old master,he also happens to be an important character from an important group that later plays an important role during the comet's return in the last episodes,not only that,Aang bending fire this early has rammifications to his character that are meaningful and carry a lot of weight all the way up to the last season,so for everyone who actually watched the source material this LA has a ton of flaws in characters or in this exmaple,the lack of them,theres a big difference between skipping some little details and completely ignoring plot relevant characters and events.

The biggest drawback of this show is the expository dialogue. That random exposition bro who told Zuko and Iroh about Zhao was hilariously bad 😂. I think this episode needed a stronger flaw for Sokka. His need to win the approval of his father and doubting himself isn’t good enough. Watching Sokka overcome his hangups, show humility, and ask Suki for help was a much stronger watch than Suki already being so interested in Sokka. Felt more like a meeting of equals in the original while here feels more like typical teen romance.
I agree. Plus some bad acting here and there, but they are young and new. I think they did a good job over all tho. I like most of the actors. The action and visuals are great too.
That’s my main problem plus the so-so acting from many people not just the kids. I don’t care about how different it is from the cartoon, it’s not supposed to be the same, but the dialogue and acting made it reallyyyyy tough to watch at some points imo. Also how everyone always looks so clean like they’re putting on fresh clean clothes every 10 minutes.

In the animated series, it was an effective use of a quick montage that showed word of mouth that spread from one villager from the island to a fisherman then to a merchant then back to one of Zuko’s men then to Zuko on his ship. Much more natural. Here it was some random dude coming out of nowhere to tell them everything they needed to know as soon as they needed to know it. Much clunkier.
The misogyny isn't primarily for the development of Sokka. In the cartoon it was for the women in the show to show that women CAN do things like be a warrior. Without it in the live action it's one less character development trait for Katara, Suki or Azula. That was a very important lesson for boys, and amazing representation for girls.
Especially watching Sokka swallow his pride and ask Suki for help in learning how to be a better fighter. He even wears the Kyoshi makeup and armor to show how committed he is to learning. It was a great lesson.
*Roku:* Remember when i took over Aang's body and scared the Fire Nation soldiers out of their minds? No? Never mind then. *Kyoshi:* lol kick rocks Roku I'm the mentor figure now *Korra:* lol, she's just catching bodies *Yangchen:* Kyoshi, you can't just do everything! You need to let Aang have some agency! *Kuruk:* Yangchen, I don't think she hears you now *Wan:* and Aang learns nothing from this, but it was a cool moment, so who cares, right?
At first I was a little put off because his version of Zhao is a bit different... but after watching the entire season, I have to say I love the way he's done it.
I really don't like how Roku isn't the first Avatar Aang connects with. Like, that's kinda the whole point. Roku was the previous Avatar and thus he's Aang's spiritual mentor. Meanwhile, the Avatar needs to be better trained in order to connect with his other past lives. Likewise, in the context of the Last Airbender, Roku is a MUCH more important character to Kiyoshi. It kinda seems like that they're rushing to get the fan favorite character out of the way in the event there's no season 2.
I think how the show handles the waterbending scroll makes a lot of sense because the tribe would have scrolls and artifacts even if the benders have killed or captured. Katara not being allowed to know about them or learn from them to protect her from being found out also makes sense. It also makes the good bye even more powerful because instead of sleeping bags it’s her heritage and her bending. Also with her leaving the northern tribe because of the sexist traditions she’s giving Katara the tools to fight that she wouldn’t have in the north
It was implied that they had spent about two days together, the whole 48 hours comment, Sokka and Suki just trained and fought together, they were in a life and death situation. All of that makes people bond together faster than usual. Besides in our everyday reality people hook up in less time in clubs. 😂
I like this more, it was wholesome. He wasn't an asshole. He needed help with training and she was awkward around him but a badass. End with a kiss. Cute and nice.

if u guys didnt notice this was Kyoshi's advice to Aang during the lion turtle ride it was weird hearing it now than in book 4. You'll notice this more later in the next episodes.
I enjoy the speed running to a degree I think some things would be strange or even boring to spend a lot of time on. Because it isn’t a goofy cartoon it would feel weird to spend like 15 minutes on say Sokka writing haikus or have Aang have a fanbase or surf on those giant koi fish things and get attacked by that monster. Not that those things couldn’t work it would either need to be a quick hint to that scene or spend a significant amount of time on them for it to not be confusing to those who aren’t aware.

I never cared much about suki, I liked her but never but much thought to her,however this actress is incredible , she has such stable acting in the ensemble that it pulled me in her scenes tbh and chemistry is definitely there
Its very hard to like the live action version, because of how much I loved the original when I watched it when it first came out even the directors didn't want to have part in the live action because they knew they would change parts of it and I was afraid of that as well. I get what you mean by liking certain parts but its not the same feeling as the original and I don't even know how its going to end because they put episodes together and also changed a lot of the characters developments. Zuko to me is my favorite character because of how much he acts like the animated series Zuko. At first Sakka bothered me a little and Aang wasn't as child like in the beginning maybe because it feels like we are skipping a lot. But I saw Sakka during this episode then the first. I just know this is more politically correct in some ways. And I am sure you will see it too. I am trying to look at it from a new lens but its hard because of how long we waited for this live action. And I heard if this doesn't do well they won't make a second season or third, which would suck, but this I don't know if this is what I wanted in a live action?

I have never seen the animated show but I absolutely love the live action show. I hear all the time people comparing it to the animation but as a person who is seeing it fresh, I felt all the surprises , excitment and was deeply moved by the show.

This was my experience with ONE PIECE. Never seen the anime but LOVED the live action. It's kinda nice going into these without certain biases, allows you to enjoy the show for what it is.
You should now watch the first season of the cartoon,if you liked the LA you are going to like the source.

Essentially kyoshi was saying what vision said in civil war. the avengers presence itself, Our very strength incites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict... breeds catastrophe. Kinda like in never back down the character Jean had a brother who was a champion and he was out n about minding his business and he got challenged and he accepted it, and when the rando lost he came back and unalived the brother sad but it happens.
This show is solid asf. It has its flaws but for a true avatar fan it’s definitely worth a watch. I really enjoyed it. Hope y’all don’t nobody sway your own opinions. 7/10 for me

I've never watched the original show, but this series made sense all the way through. Most people only complain about what's not in it, which is something that can only upset someone with prior knowledge of events. An example would be people who read a book complaining about missing details in a movie adaptation. That's why it's always best to start with the shortest form of media and go up. Usually movie < series < book.

Interesting to note, both shows have about 8 hours of runtime for season 1 and both cover the same major plot points in that time, technically the animation is shorter because of the number of times it plays the intro and end credits.
It's not about the runtime, it's about the execution.

They completely removed Aang's first fire bender master,who happens to also be Zhao's old master,he also happens to be an important character from an important group that later plays an important role during the comet's return in the last episodes,not only that,Aang bending fire this early has rammifications to his character that are meaningful and carry a lot of weight all the way up to the last season,so for everyone who actually watched the source material this LA has a ton of flaws in characters or in this exmaple,the lack of them,theres a big difference between skipping some little details and completely ignoring plot relevant characters and events.

Thats why when they created the comics and the book the writing is much different and much dull to be honest. Its because of the lack of other writers such as Aaron Ehasz and others who pitch ideas to Bryke
The biggest drawback of this show is the expository dialogue. That random exposition bro who told Zuko and Iroh about Zhao was hilariously bad 😂.
I think this episode needed a stronger flaw for Sokka. His need to win the approval of his father and doubting himself isn’t good enough. Watching Sokka overcome his hangups, show humility, and ask Suki for help was a much stronger watch than Suki already being so interested in Sokka. Felt more like a meeting of equals in the original while here feels more like typical teen romance.
I agree. Plus some bad acting here and there, but they are young and new. I think they did a good job over all tho. I like most of the actors. The action and visuals are great too.
That’s my main problem plus the so-so acting from many people not just the kids. I don’t care about how different it is from the cartoon, it’s not supposed to be the same, but the dialogue and acting made it reallyyyyy tough to watch at some points imo. Also how everyone always looks so clean like they’re putting on fresh clean clothes every 10 minutes.

Nah. In the animated series, it was an effective use of a quick montage that showed word of mouth that spread from one villager from the island to a fisherman then to a merchant then back to one of Zuko’s men then to Zuko on his ship. Much more natural. Here it was some random dude coming out of nowhere to tell them everything they needed to know as soon as they needed to know it. Much clunkier.

The misogyny isn't primarily for the development of Sokka. In the cartoon it was for the women in the show to show that women CAN do things like be a warrior. Without it in the live action it's one less character development trait for Katara, Suki or Azula. That was a very important lesson for boys, and amazing representation for girls.
Especially watching Sokka swallow his pride and ask Suki for help in learning how to be a better fighter. He even wears the Kyoshi makeup and armor to show how committed he is to learning. It was a great lesson.

I really don't like how Roku isn't the first Avatar Aang connects with. Like, that's kinda the whole point. Roku was the previous Avatar and thus he's Aang's spiritual mentor. Meanwhile, the Avatar needs to be better trained in order to connect with his other past lives. Likewise, in the context of the Last Airbender, Roku is a MUCH more important character to Kiyoshi. It kinda seems like that they're rushing to get the fan favorite character out of the way in the event there's no season 2.
Yea I didn’t like it either. But it fun to see but story wise Roku is way more important.
I think how the show handles the waterbending scroll makes a lot of sense because the tribe would have scrolls and artifacts even if the benders have killed or captured. Katara not being allowed to know about them or learn from them to protect her from being found out also makes sense. It also makes the good bye even more powerful because instead of sleeping bags it’s her heritage and her bending. Also with her leaving the northern tribe because of the sexist traditions she’s giving Katara the tools to fight that she wouldn’t have in the north

It was implied that they had spent about two days together, the whole 48 hours comment, Sokka and Suki just trained and fought together, they were in a life and death situation. All of that makes people bond together faster than usual. Besides in our everyday reality people hook up in less time in clubs. 😂

I enjoy the speed running to a degree I think some things would be strange or even boring to spend a lot of time on. Because it isn’t a goofy cartoon it would feel weird to spend like 15 minutes on say Sokka writing haikus or have Aang have a fanbase or surf on those giant koi fish things and get attacked by that monster.
Not that those things couldn’t work it would either need to be a quick hint to that scene or spend a significant amount of time on them for it to not be confusing to those who aren’t aware.

I never cared much about suki, I liked her but never but much thought to her,however this actress is incredible , she has such stable acting in the ensemble that it pulled me in her scenes tbh and chemistry is definitely there
Its very hard to like the live action version, because of how much I loved the original when I watched it when it first came out even the directors didn't want to have part in the live action because they knew they would change parts of it and I was afraid of that as well. I get what you mean by liking certain parts but its not the same feeling as the original and I don't even know how its going to end because they put episodes together and also changed a lot of the characters developments. Zuko to me is my favorite character because of how much he acts like the animated series Zuko. At first Sakka bothered me a little and Aang wasn't as child like in the beginning maybe because it feels like we are skipping a lot. But I saw Sakka during this episode then the first. I just know this is more politically correct in some ways. And I am sure you will see it too. I am trying to look at it from a new lens but its hard because of how long we waited for this live action. And I heard if this doesn't do well they won't make a second season or third, which would suck, but this I don't know if this is what I wanted in a live action?

One of the things I really enjoyed in this episode was the in tandem-fighting between _Kyoshi_ and _Sokka_ aganst the fire nation warriors.
my dad watched this w/o having seen the OG. he loved it, firstly. but on the suki note, he just saw it as a typical movie/show “inevitable” semi-rushed romance. those are p common, tho more so in movies than tv lol. he liked suki and sokka a lot tho in general
