1. Start with key out of ignition, drivers door is open all others closed and drivers door is unlocked.
2. Insert key into the ignition (Do NOT Turn) and Pull key out.
3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Using the power lock switch on the driver's door of your Toyota 4Runner, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second. (1 Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).
B. Close, then open drivers door.
4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Using the power lock switch on the drivers door, perform 5 lock/unlock cycles starting with lock. Use an even pace and try to go about one cycle per second. (1 Cycle = 1 lock and 1 unlock).
B. Insert the key in the ignition cylinder.
C. Turn the ignition to ON (Do NOT Start) then back to OFF.
D. Remove the key from the ignition.
5. Within 3 seconds the power door locks on your Toyota 4Runner should cycle automatically indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1 if the locks do not cycle at this point.
6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds.
A. Press the lock and unlock buttons on the remote key fob simultaneously for 1 second.
B. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons, press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle once indicating successful programming. If the door locks do not cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps A and B in step 6 as your remote has not been accepted.
C. Repeat steps A and B in step 6 for each new remote key fob.
7. Close drivers door.
I just tried your method on my 2002 SR5 4Runner. My first attempt got the programming mode to respond. I tried the new FOB button programming procedures following to no avail. After my first attempt all other attempts (about 15) did not work (I could not even get into programming mode). I looked on a 4Runner forum and someone said to try pulling the driver's side door lock up and down manually (lock/unlock 5-time procedures) instead of using the automatic door lock button on the door. This worked flawlessly! I programmed both my FOB's after performing the aforementioned procedure. Thank you for making this available on the web! :)
You're Welcome! Glad you got it figured out
I had to do the same thing 99 4runner
Hey I have a 2001 toyota 4runner Limited mint condition from south Carolina. And I called the dealership and asked if I could order remote fobs from them. They said it wouldn't work. I searched for a video and a found this one. I went on Amazon and ordered 2 remote fobs 27 dollars canadian. Received them yesterday and I watched this video and followed it to the T. Amazing both of my remote fobs work. Thanks for sharing this video. ☆☆☆☆☆!
Glad it helped!
Which fobs did you buy? I’m looking to do the same to my 01 4Runner
I just had to do this yesterday and your instructions work great! However, if your drivers side door actuator is going bad you can help it up and down but if that doesnt work, then follow the instructions except use your key in the drivers side door to go through the 5 lock and unlock cycles, and that worked fantastic! It does take a little time and sometimes a few attempts but it works and imo its definitely worth it. Thanks for the vid!
You're Welcome! Good tip
You rock, I’m having some issues with the driver door lock actuator and couldn’t get it to work with the button. I used the key in the door and it worked perfectly. Great tip
@@anthonym6078 Hey man, glad I could help!
My door lock outside is also bad :/ any other alternatives?
It worked! The Toyota dealership wanted to charge me $400 for this!😮
THANK YOU!!
You're Welcome!
2000 4Runner This was sooo sweet. I programmed 2 new remotes that I picked up on eBay for $12.89. Your video is great and simple.
Glad it helped
Holy crap! Are you sure you don't have to dawn a headdress and dance around a campfire under a full moon too? LOL. Ok, I'll go try this, but I'm going to have to bring a laptop with me since I don't think I can remember all of this.
Your directions worked great. I went by the directions from a website I was provided and 2 other UA-cam videos to which NONE worked. Found yours and bam, both new key fobs are programmed!
Glad it helped!
Thank you man, I’ve been using an almost 20 year old key fob for way too long. Super helpful 🤙
You're welcome!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP...TAKE CARE, BE SAFE AND GOD BLESS.
Thanks you too!
So..when I bought my 01 4runner, it didn’t come with a key fob, I would like to buy a key fob and program it. Which fob do you recommend for my situation?
THANK YOU😭
You're Welcome!
Car alarm keeps coming on at the end and recycling lock/unlock and I cannot add a new remote. Trying it a few times already.
Any advice. I guess we need to turn off the alarm during programming.
My 99 4Runner locks are seriously messed up. They lock and unlock themselves. Sometimes the lock switches work, sometimes not. I don’t know if there is a relay or module somewhere that needs to be replaced but I NEVER leave my keys inside without a window down. It’s possessed.
My 1999 4runner i just bought came with a aftermakrket alaram. Would i need ti remove alarma or can i just reprogram it to oem key fob
Hell yeah my fob works again! lol
Thanks for sharing this video. It worked.
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video buddy totally helpful
You're Welcome! Glad it helped
Worked fine. Thanks for the video.
Cool, You're Welcome!
Worked on first try thank you!
You're welcome!
I have a 96 4Runner and I’m unsure how to program a remote for it. I’m not even sure it came with one. But I live near Atlanta and I don’t have a key that works for the doors to lock and unlock it. Plus I don’t know if you’re supposed to use a specific brand for a remote. I’d appreciate some advice if you’re able to give it.
A 96 4runner did not come with factory remotes
back when real life had cheat codes. well I guess there are still some interactions like this one can have with later cars.
I can get mine to work..I even changed the lock actuator cause it was weak. What else can I do
That's cool and worked, but how do you work the rear window button. 2002 4Runner SR5 Fully loaded VIP and all.
The whole remote should program in at the same time. If the other buttons work but that one does not - the one button is either dead on the fob, the car does not have the option or there is some other issue with the rear window itself.
Had to go SUPER slow on the lock unlock. Like 1-1000. It didn’t unlock on the 5th one so I waited like 2 seconds before I did the last unlock.
My brother , where is the immobiliser in 4runner 1999 ?
Great video. I have got a 98 4runner and I lost my remotes. Can I buy the ones off of amazon? Would it work with same procedure?
A 98 4Runner actually takes a different procedure. We don’t have a video for it but you can find the instructions here www.programyourremote.com/classified/1998-toyota-4runner-keyless-entry-remote-fob-programming-instructions-listing-6540.aspx
just did and it worked first time 2000 4runner limited
You're amazing, thank you!
Thanks!
The Dash Cluster is Wrong for it to be a 99 to 00 4runner But this is the correct procedure this dosent work if you have bad door lock Actuators Just a tip for everyone
It's actually a Sequoia in the video but yes this same procedure works on many different Toyota Models
@@PYR-Auto aww okay that makes sense on the dash cluster difference
Outstanding 👍🇺🇲
Thanks 👍
Thank you! Had to go through the steps about 4 times for some reason, but it did work!
You're welcome!
This procedure is not working for my 1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I try stepping through this up to #5, but the 4Runner doesn't do any cycling to indicate a 'successful entry into the programming mode.' Is there a different script for our 4Runner?
Are sure you 4runner has the factory remote option, not all did in 1999? To verify that you can take your VIN number and call a Toyota dealership. Speak with their parts department and they can look up the original build sheet for the vehicle to see what options it has.
I’m having same issue :/ dang. Two precious owners and the one I bought it from said they had a thing they bought online to program a remote for it?
@@PYR-Auto The failure to 'enter into the programming mode' on the 4Runner doesn't make sense. I called a Service Manager at the local Toyota dealer and confirmed that I am chasing the correct script. How would a Service Tech at Toyota resolve this issue? I can't imagine that replacing the remote would solve the problem when you can't even enter into the programming mode. Ideas?
thank you soo effin much.
You're welcome!
I just replaced ignition cylinder in my 99 4Runner LTD. Would you know how to program the new key because it's antitheft won't let me start the truck😒
Sorry, I wouldn't know of a procedure to help in that situation.
So I have a problem with my locks, if I try to the 5 cycle after the first cycle the door looks stay locked but it makes the sound of unlocking will this be an issue?
It's only an issue if you're not able to get the vehicle into programming mode. If that is the case, you can move the actual door lock indicator on the drivers door with your hand for the 5 cycles.
Does anyome know the correct key to buy. Cause its not just any key
Will this also work for the back window button?
Yes - it should
Do you have to have the VIP and limited models to do this because I have an SR5 and it doesn’t have the VIP and it didn’t work for me
Trim doesn't matter but it does need to have the factory remote option installed - not all did in 1999-or 2000
Hey, can you tell me if this would still work on a 2000 Toyota Hilux Surf which is the same Japanese Version of the 4Runner?
I don't belive it will - this generally only works on vehicles built for the U.S. market.
My car locks get Jammed after pressing 2 times the unlock and locking the car. Could the process still be done or no ?
Try just manually moving the door lock on the drivers door with your hand for the 5 times
@@PYR-Auto it didn’t work 🥲😢
Can't get into programming mode. I used two different receivers. During the process, the door locks become unable to lock or unlock, so I tried it manually. Nothing.
Same with mine.
@@vaeastside7575 Hey, I finally got mine to work, but it never gave me the right number of beeps. Apparently it was programming anyway because later, I just tried it and the key fob worked! it was harder for me to tell because on my wife's car, the horn doesn't beep, so all you here is the locks engage. So even if you don't get the right number of beeps, try programming it anyway as if you did and see what happens. Good luck.
I had the exact same situation in the end. I thought it wasn't programming but it was. No horn, but I could hear the locks engage. However, later I found that sometimes it was making the noise, but not locking, like it did when I programmed it. So make sure when you hit the button and you hear them engage that they have actually locked or unlocked. You and I may not be done yet.
How about 1995 Toyota 4runner remote?
hello, where did you get control?
I would recommend bit.ly/CarAndTruckRemotes.
👍 don it thanks
Doesn’t work for my 99 sr5 won’t even go into cycle the locks for programming. Just replaced the drivers side actuator and still won’t work
Me too for my 2002. 🙁
Did not work for my 2000 4runner.
My 99 you can cycle door locks 5 times but try to do it again too fast and the mechanism cant keep up . Switch jams
You can also move the actual lock on the drivers door with your hand for the 5 cycles.
Key fob will program but then won’t do anything, I got it to lock and unlock a few times then it went right back to doing nothing
Sounds like there may be an issue with the fob you are using
Just tried this and did not work. Now my locks will not lock or unlock manually. How do I undo this?
It sounds like you may have other issues with your vehicle. An unsuccessful programming attempt should not effect the locks being able to be locked or unlocked.
Every time I do it the alarm goes off, I bought this car only with 2 key 2001 4Runner
Sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm system that's tied into your keyless remote system, you may need professional assistance
Crazy how none of this crap ever works for me
Does this work on 89?
No, it will not.
1999 Toyota 4Runner limited edition. this doesn't work. tried many times. Help?
it may not be set-up for factory remotes.
I also have a 99 4Runner Limited and it doesn’t work on mine either. Mine definitely DOES have the factory programming and I even have the factory fob that still works. I bought these fobs for the extra keys. The problem seems to be that none of the procedures will make my car enter program mode because at the step where it says, “the door locks start actuating within 3 seconds to signify it is entered program mode”, nothing happens. I even watched the video from the same website and followed along with the guy several times and his actuated after 3 seconds but mine did not. Is there another alternate programming procedure you can give me? If not I will just have to send these back and take my car to the dealer.
@@sparksandgritgarage555 I gave up. Will cost more to replace the lock actuators if they break.
@@babblingidiot7903 I actually got mine to work but I had to turn my ignition on and off twice instead of once and also while the lock was going up and down as I did the five cycles I pulled up and pushed down on it to make sure it actuated everything time because after three times it stopped going up and down. Hope this helps.
Do you need to buy something special for the car to do this?
No, the car just needs to have the factory remote option installed ( not all do )
Not in program mode
Broke my actuator doing it this way better to do it in the door
Ese carro no es una 4runer es una sequoia
Este mismo procedimiento funciona en muchos modelos Toyota diferentes.
My brother , where is the immobiliser in 4runner 1999 ?
not sure on that, sorry
