    I found this out, when I had abscessed tooth and no insurance. Seeing this video makes me feel more confidant, knowing you and nurse Amy came to the same conclusion I have about Fish Mox. Which is it's the same exact pill as you would get from an RX! Thanks for this Video! I love your website!

    AS an RN.....yes....you should try NOT to depend on antibiotics....BUT, many women get UTIs and need antibiotics to cure the UTI or they can and will die from Kidney failure, as the disease worsens and moves up to the kidneys. Gun shot victims will need antibiotics. I believe in PREVENTING death or worsening conditions. Sepsis is running rampant, even today...so is MRSA. My nephew just lost his right leg to sepsis, from his boot rubbing on his outer ankle bone which got infected, he ignored it or just put Newosporin on it....but it got into his blood and thus sepsis....thus lost his leg. Prevention is everything. And there is NO such thing as an accident......accidents ARE preventable by slowing down, not panicking, and using your head.

    I live without insurance, and not by choice. A 160 dollar doctor visit is about what I spend on food in an entire month. So being the marginalized American I am, I ordered some fishmox for a tooth abscess. It arrives tomorrow, wish me luck!

    Septra or bactrim, common human prescription antibiotics, have always been this same combination of two ingredients. The ingredients and dosages in BirdSulfa are exactly the same as the common human sulfa antibiotic. Thanks, Nurse Amy

    Do you think you could write up a table of what type of antibiotics you would use, what the fish name is, for what infection you would use it, and the dosages for adults and kids.
    I know this may be hard but I would really appreciate it.

      James Martin I, also, think it is a good idea for the layman to have a chart and a list of various wounds, illnesses, and likely infections which may result. I am also mindful of which symptoms may be caused by a virus, v.s. a bacterial infection. (I know that antibiotics don't help viral illnesses, unless a secondary bacterial infection ensues!) I am fortunate to have a medical technologist-microbiologist as a life partner! I am also fortunate to have worked in hospital lab, ICU, ER, vascular lab, and EKG areas for years. I picked up a little bit of knowledge, and I have a PDR. Regarding such a list of possible infections and treatments, I think I'll just compile one myself, consulting my private M.D., and any other resources I have at hand. I wouldn't ask anyone else to do it for me. I'd rather trust my own research. I am very grateful to Dr. Bones for posting this video. I found it while I was researching this topic and "getting a second opinion", after having seen a similar video by PatriotNurse, whom I greatly admire and trust. I'm going to check out Dr. Bones further, too! He seems to be blessed with common sense! You are responsible for compiling this information. You will learn and retain more vital information if you do the research yourself, and make notes.

    I've obtained quite a few of these on line. I'm sorry if you already mentioned this, but I also compiled a hard copy of the indications, contraindications, dosing, etc for all these that I have as well as others I may have to obtain. It was built up a while ago, but I believe I pulled these off of the FDA's website. It would also be good to REALLY review signs and symptoms that would indicate the use of anti-biotics. Thank you for the videos, they're always awesome and helpful. Thank you.

    • @visamedic
      @visamedic 8 років тому +2

      Well I looked for the files and only found the ones from Wikipedia. These are good for the mechanism of action, and indications, but have nothing on the dosing. I'll continue to look for the ones I pulled off the FDA's site. Like I said, as soon as I pulled them, I turned them into hard copies. To scan all of them, then to send them off would be a task and a half. At least for me. Aside from that, it would be good to supplement your antibiotics with natural anti-virals, bacterials, and fungals like Astragalus, Pau de Arco, and colloidal silver.

    Don't forget Fish Mycin, Erythromycin. You used to be able to buy these by the 100 count at Petsmart, years ago. Now they come in 60 count bottles. Works great. I used to take them when I was younger and without insurance. I did the same with the Fish Flex, Kelfex. I am sulfa allergic, so I've been prescribed those two for years, and you can also get Penicillin and others at Tractor Supply. They have wide range of farm animal drugs there, for sale.

    My last experience with penicillin was in 1971 at which time I developed an intense rash. This was with oral penicillin. As a kid I had taken a lot of long acting Procaine Penicillin, injections for routine treatment of strep throat. My guess is that any future use of penicillin or its derivatives could cause an anaphylaxtic situation, particularly if injected rather than taken orally. Which of the various antibiotics available non-prescription would a prepper want to have on hand ? Thank you.

    Florida has many disadvantages, mostly associated with the large population. There are, however, various areas inland that are sparsely populated and you have the benefit of more than one growing season. The soil, especially is So. Fla. is substandard, however, and you should amend the soil to make it richer if you have picked out your bug-out location...

    i know this may seem like a dumb question but with the world going as crazy as it is,it might not be to long before we are in one of those collapse's society so why is there not a safe version of over the counter antibiotics yet,in every tv show which deals with major world collapse ,the first thing pointed out is the lack there of ready available antibiotics in every show is it just really about money for the government,surly by now there would be a legal safe over the counter form for humans.

Ampicillin is for more heavy duty work, bad cuts ect. Like you I wanted to make sure I covered all my bases. I bought Amp. 2 to 1 over Amox. Good luck Buddy.

    What about vet quality Terramycin for potential eye infections - such as pink eye - in a SHTF situation Doc? I would assume if it's safe for the eyes of dogs, cats and horses, it would be safe for humans if no other options were available.

  • @ConnieConnie824
    @ConnieConnie824 10 років тому +1

    So my question is this... If you get the fish mox and are in the situation, how much do you take?
    Is it one pill twice a day for 7 days?
    If that's the case then 14 pills would do the trick for each infection, so one bottle of 100 would be good for about 7 infections...
    Correct??

    • @DrBonesNurseAmy
      @DrBonesNurseAmy  10 років тому +5

      Fish Mox is 250mg, Fish Mox Forte is 500mg. An adult needs 500mg orally three times a day for 7-14 days, depending on the infection. Of course, in normal times with a functioning medical system, call your doctor. Dr.Bones

  • @cox380

    As in do they typically come with a one year, two year, or five-year expiration?

  • @PhoenixB4U
    @PhoenixB4U 12 років тому

    One important thing to note however...you don't want to buy antibiotics and keep them around for years and years 'just in case'. Most medications slowly lose their effectiveness, and at worst, just won't work, but antibiotics can actually be dangerous when expired.

    • @DrBonesNurseAmy
      @DrBonesNurseAmy  10 років тому +3

    Dr bones I realize this video is older and you may not be monitoring but I wanted to ask. • @DrBonesNurseAmy
      @DrBonesNurseAmy  8 років тому +2

      Jeff, Tetracycline, although useful, is a first generation antibiotic and there is significant resistance. A better option in that drug family is doxycycline. Also, azithromycin, clindamycin, metronidazole, and others might be useful in the penicillin-allergic and available in veterinary equivalents. Our new Third Edition of the Survival Medicine Handbook goes over these and others in detail.

    • @DrBonesNurseAmy

      Leonard Urban Leonard, these types of infections are so invasive that a combination of 3 intravenous antibiotics are used. Only one of them is available in aquatic form, Fish-Cin (but then again, it's oral and may not be as effective).

  • @DrBonesNurseAmy

    This is just plain wrong. The only antibiotic this was true in was Tetracycline, which caused kidney damage when expired. The formulation has sinced changed years ago and there haven't been any recent reports of tetracycline toxicity. Antibiotics and many other medications retain their potency for many years after the expiration dates, according to the Shelf Life Extension Program study performed by the U.S. government.
