Thanks bwillis280! I'm so happy you are happy! We really enjoy what we do (teaching and being a resource for those who want this kind of information). Thanks for coming by our booth and chatting with me! Please be safe, Nurse Amy :-)
Nurse Amy, Thank you for the inventory load out list, I used to work with a Military Independant Duty Medical Tech that carried a similar bag and learned a lot for him as to what was best it is funny it mirrors yours so closely even after 25 years. Much appreaciation to you for all you and the Doc do,
Well, I actually make these bags for us originally. Mostly I want to share what I would put into a medium prepper bag, so feel free to print out the content lists and DIY!! I only make these bags for those who would like to have them already packed. Thanks for your good wishes, Nurse Amy
Great video....Consider this as well. `TAMPONS~ for bullet wounds...Vaseline strips for chest wounds (lungs). What you have , we carried. These additional items I stated, were carried by each officer on our SRT. Now retired after 25 yrs in law enforcement....15 of those yrs as a Counter Sniper. Again , great video.
Bobby C. Don’t use tampons for wound packing bleeding still occurs under the wound and does not promote hemostasis. Use X stat, Celox rapid, or combat gauze if you are to pack anything into a wound those products have kaolin which promotes cohagulation but stimulating factor 12 and can stop arterial hemorrhage. You can also pack it deeper into a wound.
We are in Florida. We are currently planning suture/stapling classes for Florida beginning next week. See the website for our event schedule. Plus we will be doing classes in Arlington,TX on April 26 and 27. I'm sure we will be adding more for 2013. Thanks for asking! Nurse Amy
Those are great bags. I carried one for a decade, except the Navy issued me mine. Works well, the idea being that you don't have to take it off you shoulder to open it and access all the contents.
Hi EffyJnr, You can print out our content list on the store website. We are happy to provide the content lists for anyone who woud like to DIY! Good luck, Nurse Amy
Great video. Having been an EMT, an ER Technician and Army Medic I have to say, over all a great video. The scissors are nice. But "EMT" otherwise known as "Trauma Shears" work faster and go through denim no problem. I would use those scissors for cutting off old bandages if needed. The non sterile gauze in the wound? Maybe. Depends on how severe the bleeding is? I mean if it is severe, slap it in. If you can, I'd use the sterile. The chux pad is a great addition. I would add some Xeroform gauze for when it just can not stick to the wound. Maybe some butterfly closures too. Never hear the Raw Honey part so I'll have to look into it.
+Kelly Lynn Hi Kelly, Thanks for your comments! It is not necessary to use sterile gauze to stop bleeding, remember you will be cleaning the wound before you bandage it. Also, the "non-sterile" gauze is still clean and the wound is bleeding. If you have to time and tons of supplies, sterile gauze is fine to stop bleeding, but again, it is not needed. There is triple antibiotic ointment so you can add that to the non-stick sterile gauze and create a better non-stick gauze, but there are several non-stick gauze in the kit already. There are steri-strips which function as the butterfly bandages do, so that is covered as well. You will find amazing research on raw honey, which is now used in hospitals as well these days "Medi Honey". Thanks! Nurse Amy :-)
Trauma shears as you call them are based on the scissors shown in the video, those scissors are used in Hospital trauma, most of them cut better than “trauma shears” such as Xshears or raptors and are quite ligther.

When I was going through training we were told you could use a shirt or clean cloth for a cPR mask you just dont get as good of a seal. But let me know if anyone, you know actually tried cause I haven't
I was watching to see if there are any things that maybe I should add to my trauma / 4th Aid packs, the only thing I didn't have in my packs was the honey. I was well aware of the medical benefits and uses of honey, but hadn't thought about adding it to my trauma packs. 4th Aid is what I call my version of a combat medic pack, with 1st aid being the equivalent of an ifak, 2nd and 3rd in between those. Some things you might consider adding to that bag are Vaseline, a lighter, Benadryl, and CPR mask.
Hi Son of Liberty! I do have a CPR mask in the kit now (hanging on the outside strap for quick use). My three larger kits all have waterproof matches, vaseline and benadryl. So I totally agree with your assessment! I have also added large Celox, a CAT or SOF-T TQ and more items now. Thanks so much for the feedback! Amy ;-)
No! No tampons for bullet wounds bad! Use combat gauze, X stat, chito gauze, or celox rapid take any up to date medical course and know how to use that stuff also Tourniquets are not bad guys there has been documented cases of tourniquets being on limbs as long as 10 hours without nerve or vascular damage. You can also convert TQ’s down by packing wounds and wrapping because the kaolin In Combat gauze can stop arterial hemorrhage
Thanks everyone for watching! Please feel free to use our content lists to produce you own DIY kits. We just want everyone to be medically prepared. Thanks, Nurse Amy
That very pouch to the left, that looks like a Voodoo Tactical Marine Style EMT Pouch? I have the EXACT SAME pouch and in colour!! I always keep it on me as my Trauma Kit and as an EDC item. Very reliable! 🤙🏻❤️
Again, we just want to share the contents with others. It is a lot of work to source the contents and put the bags together, but I am happy to do it if anyone wants a "ready-made" kit. DIYers are welcome to use our information to put together their own kits and if anyone has any questions please write to us!! Nurse Amy
Hi Nurse Amy, I was a Navy Corpsman and Navy Nurse Corps officer in my past and I would have never thought to put honey (full of sugar that bacteria love) on a wound before dressing it. How can you compare it to the application of any other of the modern medical ointments you mention...bacitracin and silvadene? I'm just curious. Thanks, Mike
from this link: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21479349 "Honey's antibacterial properties and its effects on wound healing have been thoroughly investigated. Laboratory studies and clinical trials have shown that honey is an effective broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. This paper reviews data that support the effectiveness of natural honey in wound healing and its ability to sterilize infected wounds. Studies on the therapeutic effects of honey collected in different geographical areas on skin wounds, skin and gastric ulcers, and burns are reviewed and mechanisms of action are discussed. (Ulcers and burns are included as an example of challenging wounds.) The data show that the wound healing properties of honey include stimulation of tissue growth, enhanced epithelialization, and minimized scar formation. These effects are ascribed to honey's acidity, hydrogen peroxide content, osmotic effect, nutritional and antioxidant contents, stimulation of immunity, and to unidentified compounds. Prostaglandins and nitric oxide play a major role in inflammation, microbial killing, and the healing process. Honey was found to lower prostaglandin levels and elevate nitric oxide end products. These properties might help to explain some biological and therapeutic properties of honey, particularly as an antibacterial agent or wound healer. The data presented here demonstrate that honeys from different geographical areas have considerable therapeutic effects on chronic wounds, ulcers, and burns. The results encourage the use of honey in clinical practice as a natural and safe wound healer."
Manuka honey is one of the most effective antibacterial substances you can put on a wound. Most effective treatment available for diabetic ulcers. Do a pub med search for Manuka honey
No, thank you Mike. Just stumbled on to this old post. You're right about the honey. Honey is and will always be considered bacteriostatic. I wouldn't use it on wound treatment.... last effort maybe. Meaning it does not promote the growth or regrowth of bacteria and should not be considered an antibiotic. Mildly acidic and the little bit of peroxide formed as a breakdown by-product does help some. Works better ingested as a therapy for water and foodborne problems. Throw a few packets in with the MREs. Keep some in your food supply. Bacitracin and silvadene is pure garbage and gets thrown straight in the garbage can. I refuse to use it. And you might of guessed...... FMF/gen scrub/trauma scrub having been stuck running ER in at that time the Navy's premiere training hospital. I've never had a secondary infection and that training hosp maintained a 0% secondary infection rate unlike civilian hospitals which I've seen a 5-20% secondary infection rate..... I haven't got one good thing to say about all those civilian MDs and RNs..... pure garbage.
The kit has a CAT (or SOF-T if you choose) and A SWAT Tourniquet (two tourniquets). I have also added a lot of new supplies. It has always had an Israeli Pressure dressing. You can also choose Celox, ChitoSam or Quikclot Combat Gauze. Thanks! Nurse Amy
Thanks for the video! Nice bag, I need to get one. It was like a clown car...goodies just kept coming out! Best wishes, Nurse Amy! Dr. Bones, too. We appreciate all that you do! P.S. Is this the Medium Survival Trauma Carry Kit Grab N Go? Sort of...? Thanks!
Hi Stacy, Yes it is (the same name as you wrote). I have added many more items over the years until the I cannot add anymore! It now has two tourniquets and much more. Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate it, Amy :-)
Nice kit! What are your thoughts on Activated Charcoal, I have some of that. I have some granular wound seal as well in my kit's. I don't keep much (if any) major trauma type stuff because I'm not really a trained professional. I keep normal med stuff in the bathroom for everyday use but my emergency kits are tucked away for a bad situation.
only thing missing, and which should have been priority is airway . i did not see anything here to support airway, or resuscitation . otherwise great kit.
LOL! Vares65! It does work, I have tried it a few times myself on bad shaving cuts (legs lol) and a couple arm cuts. It works well, and I have some kind of bleeding issue. It does burn though. If the bleeding didn't stop I would go for the hemostatic gauze in the kit now (your choice of brand in the store), which I added that after this video (plus a whole lot more). Thanks for watching, Nurse Amy :-)
@@DrBonesNurseAmy Looks like a quality product and mine should be arriving in a few days (My copy of your book showed up today!) Would medihoney work in the same manner as the raw honey? Phisohex would be great for some tool cleaning if they still made it. Not so good for people tho.
Hi LKN4WAR! Medihoney is still Raw honey. Medihoney is sterilized by gamma irradiation, ensuring the removal of Clostridium botulinum spores, which may or may not be in non-irradiated Raw honey. Medihoney is not "cooked" with heat, so it is still active like Raw honey. Medihoney is much more expensive. Thanks for writing to us! Nurse Amy :-)
+pim1234 It is impossible to sterilize human skin, however, a proper hand-washing technique is best. Water and vigorous scrubbing with soap is a best and hand sanitizer is OK if it is all you have. Thanks! Nurse Amy ;-)
pim1234 try putting on a glove ... do you have to touch it anywhere beyond the rim with an unwashed hand as you put it on? Also, hand sanitizer is better than nothing in a pinch in some cases, but it does not sanitize your hands... it is not allowed to be used by people in food prep, for eg.
