Very nice 440 Dart! I had a 1969 GTS 340 back in 1976 that still had it's original Dark Forest Green factory paint and the interior colors were the same. Paid 500 bucks for it and drove it home. 4 speed car that I kept until 1990 when I sold it for $5000 bucks. Should have held on to it!

Once in a while I used to see a Dart or Valiant hot-rodded by the owner. It looked so good, I wondered where are the hot factory ones? 4 door, 3 on tree, base models were everywhere for decades.
That's a cool car! Back in 1974 I went to work for a company and they had a Dart GT parked in the driveway. It had a hood like this car but was a 383. I had never seen one of these before and was impressed. With 3 growing kids, I guess "mom" needed something a little bigger. "Dad" was already driving a 1971 Coronet 383 s/w, so "mom" came home with a 1974 Coronet s/w with faux wood sides equipped with a 360 4-barrel V8. I'm surprised that this GTS didn't have power brakes. If this car had been driven the way it was meant to be, it would have needed all the braking it could get. Obviously it wasn't driven that way or the car would have disappeared long ago.
Power brake booster wouldn't fit, neither does the power steering box. None of these have them. I've driven manual brakes from this era and they are not as tough as everyone makes them out to be. It's very easy to lock up the brakes in a panic stop.
Now that's a rare Mopar! I believe that this is the first 1969 Dodge Dart GTS GT Sport I have seen. I can't figure out why these cars were only equipped with automatic transmissions and no manual transmissions. A manual stick shift provides more horsepower and torque. This Dodge Dart GTS GT Sport is in showroom condition. Mickey Tate was fortunate to find that car in such pristine condition. He and his wife will have years of enjoyment with this car. Nice ride as usual, Lou!
The 440 4speed cars from Chrysler came with a Dana rear. It didn't fit on a Dart so they went with a 8 3/4 and the torqueflight. There were also concerns that the clutch linkage would not hold up to the 440's torque.
If you have ever driven a Dart it is pretty much 2 hands on the wheel driving at all times. The comment about not fitting the Dana rear-end probably saved a life or 2. Thank you Lou.
Good day Lou, Oh My God, a genuine M Code 1969 Dodge Dart GTS the holy grail of Dodge. If I had to choice 1 Dodge from back in the day it would be this exact Dodge. Same body style as my 1970 VG Valiant 770 Hemi Hardtop. Like mine all white, Black vinyl roof with 1968 Bumble Bee on the back. I so need to bring my hardtop to Carlisle with you in the passenger seat. Even got the colour matching rims but no dog dish hub caps. A special car, definitely thank you Micky & Connie for being great caretakers of a very special Dart. Lou you definitely hit this video out of the ball park, & that awesome line. Not sure how I missed this Gorgeous A-Body RB Dart Lou! A-Body Mopar BB cars usually do not get by me. Very nice car and most had short fender tags as they ordered for drag racing! No need for radios or Heaters! I enjoyed the video keep them up!
Rare car Lou. I had an opportunity to buy a 69 GTS once it was a factory 383 4 speed but had a 318 and an automatic in it when i looked at it. Being 16 i didn't have the $4,800 they wanted for it. It got sold but i ended up finding my Duster a few months later.

Absolutely beautiful car. Simple. Minimalistic , yet some great power underneath with that 440. I wonder if The Tates are members of a Mopar club ? Always curious about that when owners have a vintage muscle car!
Big block A bodies are so cool. This one is flawless and looks great in the white/black combo. I would love to take a ride in it. Your videos are great. You really look each car over and point out neat things about them. You seem to love every one of the cars you feature here. It's also about the owners too. I love to hear the stories of what the cars mean to the people. Keep doing what you do.
This video makes me smile Lou. Imagine having your dream car from your past again.. I was never so lucky to have the "cool" cars when I was young. I had the Vegas and boring big malaise(sp) era cars most of my life. I did however have a great friend that had a 1975 Dart Swinger that if I am correct is pretty similar to this car... body wise. Minus the structural reinforcement that had to happen to handle that big block. His when he got it had the "leaning tower of power" LOL! But about a year later had a snappy little 318 in it. A quick buff on the faded maroon paint and some SOS pads and a good rinse on the white top.... Too much Armor all.. LOL she was shining like a diamond..(don't mind those rust holes down there;) )..That's weight reduction.. HAHA. After his Girlfriend at the time cleaned up the interior, WHITE!! interior. It was pretty slick. The keystone Classics, skinnies in the front and way too wides in the back (you know the kind, Like no you can't sit in the back. My tires will rub.) Was it the fastest? Nope. Did it sing through them glass packs? yes.. I love your videos. Especially the guys that find either the car they had or one just like it when they were young... I also know I am very long winded.. I appologise there too. Just some of you r videos take me back... I smile. Remembering. Thank you for what you do. Take care.
White with a green interior is unique. All 440 Darts did not have power brakes, do to not being enough room for the booster. It was a nose heavy car with that big 440 in front. A 4sp was not available I believe do to shift linkage clearance.
Just think if Chrysler would have used their A body cars, Dodge Darts and Plymouth Barracudas, as their main muscle cars instead of the B bodies. The A body is so much lighter. Can you imagine the roadrunner, GTX, and Dodge R/T's were A bodies with the 440 and Hemi's? A lot of publications and people think that the fastest muscle car of the 60's was the AC Cobra. Actually, the fastest muscle car made from the factory were the 50 or so Hemi Darts made in 1968. It was a 10 second machine right from the factory. MOPAR or NO car.
If Dennis Weaver had instead driven one of these, he would have had no problem outrunning that diabolical old semi truck. I wonder why they mandated the serial number to be mounted behind the windshield, in view of any car thief who knew his way around rare Mopars
Never knew these could be had with a 440 growing up...knew about the sb darts always liked the appearance You could drive this one on the hwy for hours and hours. Sad we will never see cars like this again Cant get into the plastic tons o buttons, screens etc on todays stuff.

Very cool. Late '70s and i'm dating a young lady who i later married. Friend of 'family' was a guy i knew of in high school. He had a 383 GTS like this, same color (bronze metallic) as my '69 Charger but his had a black top. Time goes by but there was a memorial service and luncheon for my FIL and he was there. This is almost 10 years ago. Found out that while he still had the Dart, it hadn't run in years. At least he still had it (lucky so and so ;) Rock and Roll on !!
Neighbor has one he bought new black with red strip he says it as not spent more than a month since day one outside over night. Has around 34000 miles on it.
I bought a '69 Swinger that came from the original owner in Texas. In '78-'79, he pulled the 340 & put the drivetrain from a '68 Road Runner in it. Parked it not long after...so it's solid, BB, and not numbers matching. Perfect base to make a modern restomod out of. 400 stroker? Sure! 6-speed? Why not? Chassis stiffening, 4WDB , modernized AC (it was factory 340 AC car), better seats- nothing too painfully obvious, but safer, faster, more efficient & durable
@@loucostabile Thanks, keep them coming! Only about 110 to go now, I owned and drove a large number of cars before I got married. Been a car nut since I was a kid and I was out to experience them all. Yep, I'm one of those " kick me for selling it" people. One that got away, a '70 SuperBird, orange and white, $5k in 1979.
Hi kiddycat17, That is so FUNNY! You're timing is perfect! stay tuned this Wednesday for my 10 year anniversary episode featuring my Top 10 Favorite American Cars, Lou
I WONDER how these were installed on the line. CHRYSLER made their cars for assembly for the body to be dropped over the engine trans and frame as they went down the line. I thought the 440 had a taller block height than than the 383s.
Such a clean machine! You always find nice cars for MCS, Mr. C, but this lil monster is as nice as any! K..lil back story on the Dart GTS: If mem serves..(it still does usually at my advanced age of 57 aha,) Mopar didn't plan on a big block A body. However, in '67, it was famous perf car tuner/car dealer Grand Spaulding Dodge that shoehorned a 383 into a Dart 1st. Ma Mopar had recently made the engine bay a smidge larger. They called up Chrysler & they replied.. "Our engineers said it wouldn't fit". (..that was likely true of the 64-66 cars) Grand Spaulding guys said, "Oh yeah?" Chrysler said.."Bring it up!" So they did. 1 concession for the tight fit, is a low po exaust mani on theee..psngr side i believe to make rm. But..HP manis _WILL_ fit..things are just eeeextraaaa snug, then.
It was drivers side actually to bend around the steering column. I had one. Mr Norm told the whole story on building one and bringing it to Dodge. The rest is history! He was a pioneer with a very successful dealership, RIP to him.

Exactly, I had a 383 version. Those engine compartments are tight. No ps, pb, ac. Didn't handle too hot either but a real man's car.
Фантастичне авто! Звук! Дякую!
Hi Сергій, Happy to read you enjoy this fantastic car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Always love this early late 60’s Style Darts compared to the change in Dash and that followed this. This has a lot more Style and class
Happy to read "Always love this early late 60’s Style Darts " :-)
Now that's a rare Mopar! I believe that this is the first 1969 Dodge Dart GTS GT Sport I have seen. I can't figure out why these cars were only equipped with automatic transmissions and no manual transmissions. A manual stick shift provides more horsepower and torque. This Dodge Dart GTS GT Sport is in showroom condition. Mickey Tate was fortunate to find that car in such pristine condition. He and his wife will have years of enjoyment with this car. Nice ride as usual, Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Here is one more for you to enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/HhgP-1HP7N0/v-deo.html
I like the green color of this 1969 Dodge Dart GTS. It matches the interior of the car. The Tate GTS has the same color interior as well.
Good day Lou,
Oh My God, a genuine M Code 1969 Dodge Dart GTS the holy grail of Dodge.
" You can put the baby to sleep with that note ".
Cheers

Beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome, Lou
Not sure how I missed this Gorgeous A-Body RB Dart Lou! A-Body Mopar BB cars usually do not get by me. Very nice car and most had short fender tags as they ordered for drag racing!
No need for radios or Heaters! I enjoyed the video keep them up!
Hi Gerald, Happy to read you found this one :-) A good one for sure, Lou
Did you see this one? ua-cam.com/video/fTftWq2Slww/v-deo.html
Even an A body has plenty of room for a big block.
:-)
It's like sex, if it fits its not too tight!
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read you appreciate the rarity of this car :-) Seems the Duster was the right one for you. Here is one more I think you'll enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/HhgP-1HP7N0/v-deo.html
Absolutely beautiful car. Simple. Minimalistic , yet some great power underneath with that 440. I wonder if The Tates are members of a Mopar club ? Always curious about that when owners have a vintage muscle car!
Hi Dave, High praise :-) Not sure if they are Members of the Mopar Club. Lou
Happy to read "I love to hear the stories of what the cars mean to the people." :-) Glad you're along for the ride GLHS592
Someone did a killer job on that restoration.
Happy to read you appreciate the work that went into this car :-)
Take care.
Hi Russell, "This video makes me smile " My goal of having fun is achieved :-) You're welcome, Lou
THANK YOU MR.NORM !!!
:-)
White with a green interior is unique. All 440 Darts did not have power brakes, do to not being enough room for the booster. It was a nose heavy car with that big 440 in front. A 4sp was not available I believe do to shift linkage clearance.
Hi Timothy, Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi David, Thanks for sharing, Lou
HI Lou, love your car profiles. Always great, even the ones that are not MOPARS.@@loucostabile
That’s great video right there, mm-Kay?
Nice :-)
What a beauty Lou!
Glad you enjoy this car James :-)
Mr Tate sure likes to rev that engine 👍
Just the way we like it :-)
If Dennis Weaver had instead driven one of these, he would have had no problem outrunning that diabolical old semi truck.
I wonder why they mandated the serial number to be mounted behind the windshield, in view of any car thief who knew his way around rare Mopars
Thanks for viewing and sharing.
Never knew these could be had with a 440 growing up...knew about the sb darts always liked the appearance
You could drive this one on the hwy for hours and hours. Sad we will never see cars like this again
Cant get into the plastic tons o buttons, screens etc on todays stuff.
Hi port nut, Happy to read you learned something new from this video. I'm learning from the Caretakers all the time, and I find that to be so much fun. "Sad we will never see cars like this again" GOOD NEWS! for all those cars you like from yesterday, there all right here on this UA-cam Channel for you to enjoy, Lou
At least he still had it (lucky so and so ;)
Rock and Roll on !!

Awesome great car.
Happy to read you enjoy this "Awesome great car." :-)
Greatest of all time..? Pretty close.
I always thought that the M-code Dart should have been an R/T
Hi Jeff, Hmmm, Dart R/T...I like that! Lou
GTS makes it unique
Very Impressive!!!
:-)
Need that shirt?! Love a sense of humor
Nice :-)
what a BEAST!
:-)
Neighbor has one he bought new black with red strip he says it as not spent more than a month since day one outside over night. Has around 34000 miles on it.
Hi Zane, Happy to read your neighbor has a cool car :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
@loucostabile These old cars from days gone by are getting to be fewer and fewer. All the big three built some amazing cars back in the day.

I like Mickey’s Alcatraz shirt almost as much as the car. Just kidding, of course.

Me gusta el carro un Dodge Dart 1969; está muy bonito; saludos.
Hi Jose, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
what a great affordable car that hauled ass thanks to mr norm
Just the way se like it :-)
My Dart was a '66 convertible, slant 6, big white Dodge decals on the quarters with the D and the E missing... Dog. Done by the previous owner.
Hi Mark, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
OK, now that's a car!!! OH man!
:-)
OK Lou! Another great car story! What's your favorite car(s)?

Wow!
:-)
LUV the GTS - which Ford and Chebby people referred to as 'G T SILLY'.
Hmmm, I've never heard that one before.
You're too young.@@loucostabile
I WONDER how these were installed on the line. CHRYSLER made their cars for assembly for the body to be dropped over the engine trans and frame as they went down the line. I thought the 440 had a taller block height than than the 383s.
Hmmm, not sure. Maybe a Viewer with knowledge can share.
Last time I lifted the hood on a Dart I saw …. 225 slant 6 LOL
....and this time it just about doubled the CI's :-)
Such a clean machine! You always find nice cars for MCS, Mr. C, but this lil monster is as nice as any!
K..lil back story on the Dart GTS: If mem serves..(it still does usually at my advanced age of 57 aha,) Mopar didn't plan on a
big block A body. However, in '67, it was famous perf car tuner/car dealer Grand Spaulding Dodge that shoehorned a
383 into a Dart 1st. Ma Mopar had recently
made the engine bay a smidge larger. They called up Chrysler & they replied..
"Our engineers said it wouldn't fit". (..that was likely true of the 64-66 cars) Grand Spaulding guys said, "Oh yeah?"
Chrysler said.."Bring it up!" So they did. 1 concession for the tight fit, is a low po exaust mani on theee..psngr side i believe
to make rm.
Hi Tom, Good news! Here is an example of that Grand Spaulding Dart. Enjoy! Lou ua-cam.com/video/fTftWq2Slww/v-deo.html
