- Thunder Mountain Lakes are located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness south of Stevens Pass in the central Cascades. There is no maintained trail to this fragile mountain paradise. You must weave your way through rocks and cliff bands to get there but the lakes are spectacular and worth the effort. Most hikers stop at upper Thunder Mountain Lake, but the lower lake is wonderful as well.
