James Morris as Dapertutto in the diamond aria from the second act of the Tales of Hoffmann. A performance from the Met 1988 with Charles Dutoit as conductor
Morris sang so beautifully and lyrically in this opera, while also singing Wotan around the world during this time period. He final high note is strained (a note that's difficult for all bass-baritones), but the rest of the aria is wonderful. Also, the Nicklausse in this performance, Susan Quittmeyer, is his wife!
