    One of the best mechanics that explains great and has amazing experience and knowledge. Thank you tons for maintaining the channel and providing us with such valuable information. I'm not a mechanic but a scientist in computer science. When I was a teenager, my mother signed me up to attend a mechanic garage where she used to work in the kitchen to learn how to repair vehicles. The mechanics there didn't want to say sh** and they were intentionally hiding their knowledge no matter how much I was asking questions. But you sir are truly honorable and I have learned so much by watching your videos in a short time! God bless!

    Peter I couldn’t but laugh at 20:12 ….what a familiar view…engine out and on the floor 😂 The magic of video editing…you really were determined to find the issue and you did everything you possibly could to save the customer more cost…I’d have to ask….if the turbo was changed 12 months earlier by a dealer would a new one not have been fitted and how on Earth in 12 months could that level of breakage occur?
    An extremely interesting video Peter and I’ll have to go back over it a few times to fully understand the air flow systems on those turbos….so much to potentially go wrong…
    Thanks a million for taking the time to give such an extensive explanation 👍🏻

      Where it all started was, I’d ran really bad an rattle like heck. I called air starvation due to manifold clogged & rattle due to camshaft & oil strainer blocked. But after that it still didn’t run right. The injectors were leaking & caused the strainer to block & starved the turbo of oil, causing the failure & no warranty. Ooh the joys of it all Damien 😬😬😬

  • @arsautos9797

    Good video Peter. The airflow in Skyactiv can be complex, but with thought process and a vacuum gauge diagnosis can be quick. Basically it has 5 stages of operation.
    On startup/warmup there there is no air charging by the small or large turbo, the exhaust gas arrives directly to the DPF to ensure no loss of heat from contacting the turbine.
    Low engine speeds the charging of the large turbine is minimal but is still present. The small turbine works with the large one in tandem, a lot of people think at low engine speeds it is only the small turbine contributing.
    There is 3 other modes of operation, for diagnosis it is the first mode of operation that catch out many people.
    On another note there is a reason why the shaft snapped.

      Great explanation & understanding of the systems 💪💪
      I still can figure out how it all works 😂😂
      Injector washers were leaking, causing the oil strainer to block. Reducing oil pressure & causing turbo failure with no warranty. Cars eh, I did enjoy this diagnosis though. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏🙏

    What a complex set up. I admire you for taking the job on. I had a Jaguar xe 2.0 diesel with no power at all. The exhaust had 30 psi of back pressure but the differential pressure sensor only 10 kpa on live data. What i found was a broken dpf that blocked the scr cataylist. So what i learnt was if the exhaust is blocked further down the differential pressure won't read it.

    • @kennedysgarage3281
      @kennedysgarage3281  10 місяців тому +2

      That is correct, there is no difference in pressure. Both pipes see pressure rise together. Exhaust throttles can cause this same problem. And people will say that the scantool tells us what’s wrong 😂😂😂

  • @paulmacklin4201
    @paulmacklin4201 9 місяців тому +2

    The dpf set up on most cars is hugely complex to comply with emissions requirements. Too often it is poorly engineered and implemented. Coupled with drivers using diesel cars for short journeys when a petrol would be more appropriate. I sold our CX5 just before it developed into a money pit. Turbo was starting to make a bit of noise 😮 and this was after me doing sump and strainer etc etc etc.

    • @kennedysgarage3281

      The SCBS system give very little trouble but does illuminate due to ‘ invalid data received from Engine control module. ABS & traction control does the same thing. Electronics can act very funny in modern vehicles and engine management faults cause most issues in the 2.2 Skyactive cars. Hopefully this answers your question 🤞🤞

ECU is none the wiser as its able to "command" the restrictor (even if nothing happens as it's borked plus physically disconnected.)
