@@EccentricNature One tidbit of info I didn't know was that orchid hunters would trade goods Papua New Guinea natives for orchids (dendrobium bigibum I think) and they'd planted them on bones of their ancestors. And they were shipped back to England bones and all still growing attached...lol

@@toddstropicals Indeed! There's just so many fun facts. That's why I love doing these. :)

Yes the beginnings of orchid hysteria are well documented in your video. I'm saddened and relieved all at the same time when I visit the only wild orchid population in my part of the world in mid June. The orchids are safe partly because the people who visit those trails are more interested in the golf course and lake activities near these forests. I'm sad that many people don't enjoy their short lived beauty.
As for my orchid collection, I own about 125 different orchids. I'm a windowsill grower in winter but summer a few of these outside in the few hot months typical to Canadian climates.
It's mostly a mixed bag but I have mostly phalaenopsis, some Hardy vandas, dendrobiums, Asian and South American lady slippers. Phragmipediums , Vanda types, and any scented ones are my favorite. 😀

Wow! That's a fantastic collection. I'm leaning towards a Cattleya for my next orchid. Glad that people are a bit better there now about taking care of orchids. Shame more people don't remember to commune with nature though.

Bonus fact.. flowering plants evolved somewhere between 149-256 million years ago.

@@EccentricNature It really is. Ginko trees are incredibly fascinating. They are the oldest known living tree species we have today. They only survived to present time because of the efforts of Buddhist monks.
