At 5:30 Beauty begins… After this vid half yer ago I bough subsequent 25 and big sky plugin, and yesterday I finally get subsequent 37. So I watch this video again and feel so much inspiration to experiment with my own sounds. Thank u and greetings from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Oh man that resonant tone at 8:00 was so rich and atmospheric - sounds a lot like throat singing! It really makes the "big sky" sound like a big sky backdrop too! That single note subtly modulated like that could be a meditative piece in of itself to my mind! 🥰👌
It sounds awesome! It reminds me of Trent Reznor and Alessandro Cortini ...The Sub37 was the first synth I've ever bought and is definitely one of my favourites...It's such a pleasant instrument
I remember how i sat down for the first time with mine and instantly fell in love. I knew instantly that is a keeper! Became a nonstop session if 2h. The perfect, logical layout and that huge sweetspot. I completely agree with you. My fav mono. And for that amount of money you get a lot of synth!
Modern classic! If it was priced higher it would be more coveted, more exclusive, more elusive… As it is, many “sleep on it” thinking “it’s a mono with Moog brand up-charge”. 😂
what a radical sounding synth...........................great upload................I haven't used one of these, so it's really great to get a more informed idea of the sound sculpting potential..................awesome session
Man, I have really been underestimating this synth's upper registers. I always think of it in the context of bass. What a great exploration of this synth's capabilities! (And damn, does that filter rip)
Thanks! It's the synth I've always kept ♥ But I was just looking for more inspiration after a period of not being able to play it too much so this comes at a prefect moment :)
I enjoy these kinds of videos, so I'm all in for more of this. The sub37 is creamy and delicious. I don't have one, but I try very hard to make what I do have sound like this thing, getting as close as I possibly can. Enjoyed this video very much so.
Brilliant. Thanks for that. I am very much looking forward to the next exploratory video. The wife is not going to like it though as I am starting to make room for a Subsequent right after watching this.
Jay love your videos. I was wondering if you have an opinion on your favorite reverb to use with your Subsequent 37. I own one myself and I’m in the market for a reverb pedal and can’t decide what will compliment this beast the best. I know you’re using the Strymon Big Sky, and that is definitely on my list of ones to pick. Just curious if you have a favorite for the Moog.
Very very similar. Only difference, as far as I know, is headroom in the mixer: the Sub breaks up easier, especially in paraphonic, and the Subsequent stays cleaner to higher volumes.
@@JayHosking That's because i may buy a Sub37 second hand for a good price. So staying relatively low in the mixer will probably keep the sound identical to the Subsequent one. And i don't feel it's a bad keybed. Surprising there was a mkII after a very short time and with very few changes/improvements. Your use of this synth is gorgeous
I think the Matriarch is better for bass, warmer, and can get weirder in that classic way. The Sub37 has better midrange, cuts through a mix better, and the drives add a lot. I also like its format better. Both great synths, but they perform different roles. Hope that helps.
I've had this one since 2018, I think, and it's still one of my very favourites. Harder to justify if you're on a budget-something like the AFX Station / Bass Station II gets you almost there for a lot less, and in a smaller footprint-but the Subsequent 37 feels special to play, like an instrument, and has a beautiful sound.
@@JayHosking thanks for that dude and I know what you mean. I have a Novation Peak, honestly in my workflow I don’t need such an expensive synth the can only provide one sound towards a track but I just like it, it feels nice to use and sounds as good as it should at that price. I’m moving country so offloaded some gear, one of which was a Behringer Model D and when I get back to my home country I’ll want to replace it and the sub 37 just kinda fell into my video feed but I think it looks amazing.
If you have a Matriarch, is there any gain in getting the sub37 for around 1000$ (second hand). I have a Microfreak as an companion synth for the Matriarch but ui feels flat and boring and uninspiring even though you can create pretty much any sound with it.
I think the Subsequent 37 has a pretty distinct sound from the Matriarch, while both sounding in the wheelhouse of Moog. The SS37 definitely cuts through a mix better and the Matriarch has a warmer, subtler thing. I've definitely used both in the same jam before. That said, there's a world of cool mono synths out there, so you could always try something else as well.
@@JayHosking Thanks for your opinion. I might actually chill on this one. My dream is actually to have a moog voyager one day. I hope they will start reproduce them or come up with a new version. It feels like buying one on second hand today is too expensive and are doomed to break soon after buying.
My primary interest in hardware is making music, and I don't think I'm going to be "synthfluencing" anyone soon! That said, I get a lot of emails and messages, asking about the "best" gear, hence the upcoming video on it. But other than that, I just want to make music.
Lol. Chill bro. Bo has his place. However, i would watch Jay 100 times to Bo - 1. I can never recall shedding a tear over a Bobeats video. Been a few from Mr Hoskings work, however. Just saying... 👍

This was the best demo of the Subsequent 37 I’ve seen. Time to give mine some love. Thank you!

Awesome indeed Jay. One of my grail synths for sure. Thanks for the visit with it!
5:16 The beast awakens. :) Looking forward to more of these, thanks!
This is great! I'm looking forward to your upcoming videos! Thanks
More ! More of these insights to your equipment , and your symbiotic relation to the soul of these Beautiful Machines 😘👌🌹
Hi Jay! Thank you for the awesome video presentation. Very cool sounds! I hope all is well in Your world 🌎. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
The past week I've been trying to decide between a sub 25 and a sub 37... and then you post this. So now I have a sub 37. Thanks.
That was beautiful !🔥🔥🔥

Moog make beautiful instruments no doubt. Nice one.
FUCK yeah, Jay. Been hoping you'd do something like this for ages now :) Thanks! PS. would love your run-through of the Abyss
Awesome idea and great vid. Thank you!
Indeed, great duo-phonic! Thanks for your vids
a great sounding synthesizer with the typically great sounding filters🎼👌
really nice sounds, loving mine too

Mindblown
Really awesome! 15:21
That face pop-in was more funny than it should've been
very good. For me the 'angular and dry' sounding of the subsequent make me prefer other moog engines but you know what do to do with it.
Brilliant. Thanks for that. I am very much looking forward to the next exploratory video. The wife is not going to like it though as I am starting to make room for a Subsequent right after watching this.
Amazing. ❤
😘 OMG - that sound ! 💪 Its disturbingly good ! Always a treat to get the straight dope from Mr.Hosking ! 🤌💥
I dont own a sub37 but it feels like its smiling when it plays.
To me the show really starts at 11:38, awesome!
Very strong Cortini vibes.
Nice !
I just bought one!!!! 🚀
Amazing! Truly a special instrument.
@@JayHosking I love what you’re getting out of it in this “little” exploration sounding anything but little! 👌
Isn't the 37 Duophonic ? or Paraphonic as some like to call it

There are many great choices. The Big Sky certainly is in my top few. I think the Empress Reverb slightly beats it, though. And thanks!
You're a boss 👍👍😉
Does the subsequent really makes a difference compared to the sub 37 ? Or do you consider they actually produce a very similar sound ?
Very very similar. Only difference, as far as I know, is headroom in the mixer: the Sub breaks up easier, especially in paraphonic, and the Subsequent stays cleaner to higher volumes.

Lovely synth. How do you think it compares to the Matriarch?

@@JayHosking Sold my Sub37 when I got my Matriarch. I certainly miss the Sub37 pretty often. It is special as heck. And presets:)
Also keep in mind The Sub 37 has preset memory, whereas the Matriarch does not. Not inherently a bad thing, but I do prefer the Sub 37 for it.
Hey dude, how do you feel about this synth after owning it for a year?
I've had this one since 2018, I think, and it's still one of my very favourites. Is this the better one for bass, or the Matriarch?
Myself, I'd say I like Matriarch better than SS37 for bass, but I like Minitaur best for bass.
MegaFM... MegaFM....
I'm sorry, I sold it! But maybe one day I'll get the MegaFM2. Fantastic squirrelly synth that's hard to constrain!

He's already synthfluenced me tons so yer a bit late dude ha ha.
But he's not bobeats. Mainly cause he appears to actually write music **ooh get me**
Love this
