One of the best explanation I heard. Each contract was specified to fill a niche. They never had a “do it all” gun, in reality. They were all purpose built. I like the 80% solution approach.

I've been lucky enough to get to give some friends and family their first experience shooting 300-500 yards. Every single one of them was surprised to see what they could do with a 3x magnifier and a red dot. They'll probably never shoot that far again, but the confidence it gave them in their rifle was tremendous.

I absolutely believe it. I had the opportunity to shoot, with very knowledgeable instructors, at up to 600 yards with my carry handle equipped 20" and was making solid hits. Granted it was at a range under controlled circumstance, but I was blown away that I could actually do that.

I have shot red dot on our range and I know its enough but we're forced to sit at a bench and only shoot 5 rounds per magazine and 3-5 seconds in between rounds. I have 2 main rigs for 556 / 223W.
One is my actual go too which is 13.9 with EXPS3 paired with G43 3x . My other rig is 14.5 223W paired with 1-10× .
Centurion MIDWEIGHT HF and BA Hanson Premium Black Series are my favorite barrels.
I used to think I needed my MK18 ( MK / MARK is USN term by the way) to do CQB or shooting in confined spaces. Now that I have 100x better skills I'd personally wouldnt go any shorter than 13.7 . My main rig us 13.9 with YHM Turbo K . This setup does not slow me down at all in confined spaces .
Ballistic Advantage 556n Hanson and 223W Hanson Premium Black Series Barrels are IMO the best bang for your buck . For all you cloners out there if you dont wanna spend 400+ on TDP Douglas MK12 Barrel. BA has 223W TACTICAL Gov/ MK12 Mod H Profile Barrel . I have real deal MK12 and I've seen 0 diffrence in accuracy using MK262 or 69g TMK. The difference between 0.50" groups and 0.75" groups doesnt justify spending 300+ bucks more on a barrel . I've tried everything from Proof to Criterion . BA Premium Black Series Barrels is the best bang for your buck when it comes to accuracy . BA Hanson and Centurion are the only barrels I'll be using for the time being . It took 15 years for me to finally get away from my Colt M4A1 Block II. I'll always love my Block II but it's not my main rig anymore .
In 2006 they were running the Insight WMX . That light sucked balls and cost your first born if you wanted one for a clone .

Flip side perspective: if your regular max distance is 300yds or less, I'd wager your human eye and basic calibration (ground below me, sky above me, trees grow perpendicular to ground) can tell you whether your rifle is canted mildly. Out at 500, 600 + the little deviation becomes bigger and you may not perceive the tilt in your reticle.

This is a basic primary self defense rifle for the common civilian under all basic considerations.
Caliber commonality should be the first criteria to consider as well as weigh of said ammo and it's effectiveness on the most likely targets, so 5.56 for a rifle and 9mm for a hand gun. For long term EOTWAWKI, the 22LR is an impressive consideration for the weight factor for a secondary gun like a Ruger 10-22.
Self defense is a primary concern so more ammo in the gun is better than less (because even though a pro can do more with fewer bullets than the inexperienced, most watching this video are inexperienced), and ease of operation so the semiautomatic makes the list. Most will not have to deal with shooting 100 yards much less further so a high powered scope is unlikely to be needed and that make Iron sights the simple and reliable choice, perhaps adding a laser or red dot as well.
That leaves something like an AR-15 or a Ruger Mini14 with a 16" to 18" barrel with either a laser or red dot and iron sights for when the batteries are dead.
My first build was a 1-7 twist 16" AR-15 lightweight polymer lower build with military style carry handle/sights, triangle hand guard with a collapsible stock ambi charging handle and is stupid light even with the standard 30 round magazine in the gun and cost about $500.
The second is a 1-8 twist 20" AR-15 heavyweight barrel with a welded steel lower build with a Simmons 8 point 9x50 scope, ambi charging handle and a 13" free float hand guard and BUIS and a fixed M-16 military style stock and it cost $679.08

You can get a CMMG 22 LR conversion kit for your 5.56 AR15. If you are worried about an end of the world build for when the batteries run out, then maybe a LPVO or a prism optic with an etched reticle instead of a red dot. If you pick your reticle right, you don't need batteries to shoot in the daytime with an etched reticle anyway.

I'm a strong believer in training on the fundamentals with your tool first grips, stance movement finding what is most comfortable for you then building around that with any attachments you add grips, sights, lights and pressure switch as far as length and caliber most people forget in a true SHTF situation most of the danger and engagements you will face will happen within a hundred yards or less unless you have a compound you are defending guarded by multiple people you are not going to be dealing with and engaging threats from hundreds of yards away you will be better off avoiding those threats and attempting to move undetected unless you are just a murderer looking to hunt people a PDW with knock down power out to 300 yards should be enough and easier to move with hide with if needed more than that will be for hunting food people buy gear and build their tools like they are going to invade Vietnam 😂😂😂

"Recce" is just a new name for a "scout rifle" but there can't be only one, just one that your willing to accept risk for. I love the constant banter almost as much as I hate it. You need a few tools in your toolbox if you're a mechanic so to speak.

On 14.5 and longer barrels do you get similar performance with the mini vs full sized RC2 on short barrels? Your content is great. Love your channel. Thank you.

These videos will always have do’s and don’ts. Also things that are common practice but they do not do. Because, they don’t agree with it for whatever reason. It’s like the guy in the spr video says. It boils down to all the fundamentals. Once you get that down then tweak it to your style/ ability. They give you the formula how you get the results up to you. Most people just don’t even sit behind the optic and just breathe. Don’t shoot, but just breathe, You can see when it sits at rest, how it moves when breathing. Hell just practice lining up the target before the shot.

I'll repost what I did on another comment about this:
for things you don't want to come off like a scope base, red dot into a mount, sling attachment point etc it can be beneficial. Considering crane did it for scope bases of the mk13 to the action itself to help bed the pic rail to the receiver. They also red locktite aim points to their mounts for mil use but if you swap mounts constantly then blue can work. I don't locktite scope rings as it can change torque settings in something that is very torque sensitive like a scope.

Neither you, nor anyone you know, has ever aimed passively while engaging another person, but now it’s imperative that we do so and train to it because our enemies have NV capabilities. Newsflash- even when your enemy has nods, you’re going to use the illuminator. It’s that much faster and allows for positive identification. And then there’s this thing called shooting while moving. Never said not to do a scoped carbine. I think you missed the point of what we’re talking about. We were saying it would be better for civilians to develop their own setups based on their own needs because civilian needs, budget, and training availability are vastly different than that of the the US military. I said that the biggest determining factor of setups are the optics i.e. red dot vs LPVO, which is why Joe goes in depth about the simplicity of the red dot setup vs the additional accessories added when using a scope. At no point did I say capabilities were based off barrel length, I actually stated the opposite when I said we can do cqb with long guns and extended distance with short guns.
