Kings and Generals' historical animated documentary series covering the Pacific War week by week continues. With the withdrawal on the Kokoda Track and the recent defeat at the Battle of Edson’s Ridge, the Japanese high command was now beginning to understand that they were losing the initiative against the resilient American and Australian forces in the Pacific. In that regard, more resources began to be allocated for the Guadalcanal Campaign, in a build-up that would lead to one of the bloodiest engagements of the Pacific War. But in the meantime, today we’ll cover the direct aftermath of the struggle at the Bloody Ridge, as both sides sought to reinforce their position on the island and the US Marines prepared to launch a series of raids against their opponents at the Matanikau area.

Once again caught up with this fantastic series. Thanks for putting it together. I was thinking that perhaps in the future as similar series can cover the North African Campaign or even focussing on one of the three army groups invading Russia between June 1941 and March 1942.
Just to confirm, I gather the account pretending to be you and telling people they won, is fake?
My grandfather was in the 1st Battalion 7th Marines with Chesty Puller on Guadalcanal. Growing up he told me about these engagements along the Matanikau. And as an adult we would look over maps together and he would talk about what he did and what he saw with incredible and gory detail. Such as when Major Rogers was blown apart by mortar fire and the screams when the Japanese were trapped in the ravine on Oct 9th. Heavy, heavy stuff that sticks with me. It is surreal to see these exact engagements I grew up hearing about discussed in this video. Brings added context to my grandfather’s memories. Looking forward to more videos to help me track the 1/7th’s movements on Guadalcanal! Semper Fi Poppa.
Did he ever meet Basilone
Yeah they knew each other. My grandpa never even mentioned it until I asked about Basilone once.
Nice uh no didn’t happen
You should make a video retelling what he told you
@casper191985 Well uh your gay
I cant understand how are you pumping out such a quality video almost every day, thats crazy, huge respect to your team.
Thank you!
At 13:36, Douglas Munro, the only US Coast Guardsman to receive the Medal of Honor earned it evacuating the marines. He gave his life doing so.
I cant wait for you guys to put all these together in one massive video
Wouldn't it be impossible for 4 years of content to be put in one video?
@@JohnJohn-pe5kr They'll probably have to split it into at least 2 or 3 videos
They have a week by week playlist on their page, just go to the top and let it play through at your own pace.
@@JohnJohn-pe5kr the tik history video on operation crusader compilation is 9 plus hours long

Always Worth the time to watch your products.
One suggestion, when possible could you have a distance rules when it is at the ''tactical'' level maps to know the distance. Not sure the technical limitation, especially when zooming in and out of a map.
Thanks for your great works
People have been requesting this on occasion for a while, so I wouldn't expect it, but KnG did heart this comment, so maybe there's hope? Regardless, love the content.
Nothing better than seeing history visualized in a way that makes it fun and interesting to watch/learn. I find myself literally cheering on the battles and being upset when a group loses, like I'm watching a football game or something XD
As long as you keep in mind the fact that there was nothing "fun" about the real events. Men killing each other in the middle of inhospitable jungle in brutal inhumane ways is anything but fun.
If you’ve been following this series and the podcast since last December you can almost feel like the past comes back again. The week by week format is just awesome, whoever had the idea, cheers.
And by the way I always wondered why Guadalcanal comes up during WWII history, like, why, what was there that they were fighting over? Now I know a little better.
Guadalcanal, Coral Sea and other engagements in this area were key to stopping the Japanese advances, so Australia could breath easier. The Japanese were bragging that they were going to invade, and they did do some bombing raids on the North of Australia. Plus, taking Guadalcanal meant having air power in the area that couldn't be sunk, and was key to advancing to the next objectives.
Brilliant as always!
Stick to detail, the refer in infobox "Island of death" comes from Japanese word "Gatou", simply "Hunger island".
But anyway this is great animation for heroic struggles of USMC.
Wait a second I just realised this series ain’t gonna finish for another 3 years!!! 😂 and I love that!
This channel and World War Two literally get me through the week.
As usual, great video. Just one point, however. Nobody in the Marine Corp, or the Army or Navy for that matter, would know who Louis Puller was. He is always referred to as Chesty Puller. He is somewhat of a legend in the Marine Corp.
Ahhhh 'Chesty' Puller. An absolute legend amongst the Marines - and that's saying something.
Great video as fast and detailed as possible, Thanks King of Generals
Another well made video cheers
Awesome guys love it. In 🇦🇺 we are taught this in school and mate you guys are spot on seriously on point well done
“To crush your enemy, see him driven before you, and hear the lamentations of his women” Aussie’s advancing on the Kakoda track.
Thank God, I thought a video wasn't going to be posted this week!
I'm a big history buff but for some reason I never paid much attention to the Guadalcanal campaign. It wasn't until I read a book on it about a dozen or so years ago, that I realized what a bitter and close-run thing it was. I always assumed the US had it in the bag from the get-go.
I only just realised that this area is now central Honiara. The city didn't exist during ww2. Henderson field is the Honiara airport
I'm enjoying this series a great deal. It's the best one I've seen on UA-cam.
KEEP IT COMING LOVE THIS SERIES BEST YET FROM YOU KINGS AND GENERALS👍👏
These are really detailed battles!! I love this!!!
eating breakfast while watching this
Trust me wizards and warriers one of the best channel
This makes you realise how long this action was. It really drained the resources of the Japanese & was a big part in the decision to abandon the attempt to take Port Moresby .
Dropped a comment just for the sake of helping with the algorithm. You guys deserve it 👍🏼
everytime i watch videos like this its so crazy how many hindsight is 20/20 moments there are because of a lack of communication
I'm very stoked for the Conan the Barbarian content.
Another awesome documentary, I never miss these and I love wizards and warriors channel please keep up the good work

Also, great episode. I am learning a lot! More please.
Excellent video 📹
Wait for next week
Forgot about the only Coastguard who won the Medal of honor at this encounter to rescue the trapped Marines.
Excellence as always. Such detail and explanations can not be found anywhere else. Great work!
Thanks for making this every week y'all, fkn amazing
What's more impressive about the Gaudalcanal campaign was that most of the victories American commanders and soldiers had never fought in any previous battle.
I’ve been enjoying this series. Thank you.
Keep up the good work, always nice to watch 👍
Well done!
Great video! Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks for the video
Fantastic video keep it up your doing amazing job

There are some battles that I am not familiar with and it helps me learn more about it.
Crazy stuff
My great grandfather served as one of the mentioned scout snipers

Cool
I wonder when were going to get to the Assassination of Admiral Yamamoto? Besides that this video was excellent.
I am watching your documentary and learning instead of packing my apartment up. 📦📦📦 I'm "taking a break." 🙄😬
We are not liable for any divorces, break ups, or heartbreaks occurred due to this "taking a break". :-)
The term "Lions led by donkeys" was applied to the British soldier but I can't personally recall a situation where such high numbers of excellent soldiers were so egregiously and carelessly lost without meaningful result. The Japanese soldier was betrayed by his leadership.
They were Issen Gorin.
interesting at 9.05. the American nickname "Tokyo Express" is used, while the Japanese writing, with Chinese origin, is read by a Chinese as "rat transport" perhaps due to its nocturnal schedule
Please upload videos on china
👏👍
👍👍
I really like your videos, but you need to review them more carefully - there are usually inconsistencies in the graphics, and between the narrative and graphics. There also other factual mistakes, like I'm pretty sure Marine 3rd Battalions had no J Company, it was I, K, L, and M.
Basically, this is the Stalingrad of the Pacific.
Are the Japanese units larger than the American ones? I constantly see the Japanese outnumbered 5 to 1 in terms of divisions and still beating the Americans.
Raziya Sultana deserves a video she was first female rular of india !

Ehhhh...stuff, things and engagement.
Okay seriously, when is hydaspes dropping?
Why was admiral Mccain replaced?
Promoted to Vice-Admiral, McCain was sent to Washington to become the first Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Air of the Bureau of Aeronautics, a very important position.
Algorithm booster comment goooooo!!!!
“Mantanicor”
Make a video of weapons used by the Japanese
Sorry, but "Confusing hand to hand combat" is an odd turn of phrase.
One usually thinks of hand to hand combat as simple, direct, and horrible.
When you phrase it like that, I can't help picturing the two forces standing around trying to figure out "Rock Paper Scissor" without understanding each other's languages.
its pronounced "car-code-a".
Hitlar :Masaleni We arevictory Bus.We oneday conquar everything.

An awful price was paid to obtain the knowledge obtained from Unit 731. To throw it away and not use it for the benefit of the rest of the world would have been inexcusable. It would have taken generations of research , experiments, failures, etc while millions more people would have died waiting for cures and treatments. I'm not excusing, minimizing, rationalizing here folks. Those folks suffered absolutely inhumane treatment. And no, it's not alright to treat human beings like that in the name of science or anything else. How many people have been cured, treated, developed immunity to all the pathogens and disease that used to take people's lives that are virtually unheard of today? Not easy questions to answer. I think it's important to remember and honor all those people who gave their lives for our benefit. Thanks and be good to each other.
They weren't doing research to save people, but the best ways to kill them with biological and chemical weapons. You are excusing and rationalizing atrocities the Japanese committed.
@@scottkrater2131 Take the time to actually READ the comment before fully engaging your self righteous sanctimony and accusing me of trying to justify the atrocities committed by Unit 731. If you had done that simple task you would have read "in no way does that justify the atrocities committed." Your apology is accepted.
@@chrisnizer5702 your end did exactly that. Nobody volunteered to be murdered. There is no apology. Ps I read the whole bs post.
@@chrisnizer5702 Maybe you can take the time to thank the people who died from the Nazi medical experiments while you're at it. Who gave their lives for science. Get real.
@@scottkrater2131 So show those people who suffered and died for YOUR BENEFIT the respect and honor they deserve. THEY EARNED IT. What a fricking asshole you are. A self righteous sanctimonious short sighted arrogant asshole.
