@SlyHikari03 you know what's crazy, is that I actually use this tuning on my 7 string acoustic but a semitone down in E and with a low A on the bottom. Great tuning.
Seen these guys in Manchester and Perth and the Manchester gig was one of the best live sounds I’ve ever heard! I never would’ve guessed they were using cut down rigs. Kudos to the sound guy and venue though of course.
Thanks for the rig tour. Kinda cool to see Hoss and Drew's thought process a little and how they approach things without the full touring rigs. Need Karnivool back for a USA tour - bad!!!! Favorite band in existence right now.
With the massive variance in tuning, how do they get there tremolo to sit where it should?? It would be a nightmare to setup a guitar with a decent action and intonation changing tuning every song.
that only applies to guitars that have a Floyd rose trem. i have one of my guitars set to Karnivool tuning BF#BGBE and i had no problem getting the trem to sit right. if its a fixed bridge theres no problem tuning up and down.
rnodern honestly I think they just don’t care. I think they block the term and just ignore whatever intonation or action issues there are and just get on with the music. Also, surprisingly some of these tunings sit well on guitars with 10-52’s on them, I use the same strings for EADGBE and BF#BGBE and surprisingly it feels pretty comfortable
It's a on trick pony but it's one trick is fantastic. The clean channel is a load of shit so I have to kinda make my way around that. No truer words have been said about an amp.
"This gear is all terrible and it hardly works" *clearly treats it very poorly and stomps on it with wet muddy boots and leaves it out in the rain* "This gear is trash"
I think they should bite the bullet and bring their full/complete live rig to overseas gigs, as obviously it's better - or why have it? - Would we ask for a discount in ticket prices in Europe if not?
I think it's not just Freighting costs that stop them. It's also the fact that not all venues can accommodate all their gear. Simply no room on stage. I think they more then make do with the equipment they have though. :)
Lyle Watt Doubt it :-) But just on principle! Full price ticket..full rig please! To be honest - was I only mucking about. I love 'em and would be in the front row whatever rig they brought to Prague.
There were definitely a couple of amps from what I remember but I'm almost sure it was Hoss that was running an Axe FX. There also seemed to be some computer-aided fuckery running on a Mac, but that may have just been the background xylophone for Simple Boy (first time I saw them they had a full size xylophone, which was absent the latest time).
iFlare Yeah, I've read in an interview that they really like the sounds they can get from the AxeFX effects (delays, reverbs etc), but have taken a stance on the modeling side of things: they really hate it. Prefer to use real amps and real cabs.
That sheet with the tunings just made my life so much easier
Looks like a nightmare to me
@@Qliphirot lol he means because he can now try to cover the songs more easily (I think) haha
I was gonna try learning one of their songs but now seeing the tuning sheet... I think I'll pass, haha.
20:00 for anyone curious.
3:56 anyone else notice they replaced the B on the Boss footswitch with H to make it Hoss?
Drew's voice is magical.
20:06 Guitar tuning for Karnivool songs
Loved that he actually strummed the guitar to demonstrate their tuning!
"DADGBe, very strange" - Drew 2013
These guys are the reason I created my own tuning.
Absolutely crazy.
Same ;)
What's your tuning? I'm always curious about original tunings
@@tarkenton3895 F Bb Eb F Bb F.
Basically an Ebsus/F but as a tuning.
@SlyHikari03 you know what's crazy, is that I actually use this tuning on my 7 string acoustic but a semitone down in E and with a low A on the bottom. Great tuning.
@@tarkenton3895 neat
Hoss seems like such a genuine dude.

Cannot believe this video already 10 years. I remember watching for the first time...
Whatever post apocalyptic concept they are singing about on Asymmetry......I think their pedals lived through it. 0.o
Fuu... I love Asymmetry so much, it's so complex, innovative and fun to listen to; never gets boring.
Shame you didnt get to the bass player. Many of the songs are driven by the bass.
A#EA#FBE - that is the reason i hate learning karnivool songs sometimes
It's just for AM War xD
The tuning is so cool. love to see bands that go beyond the traditional drop D or B
A# to E? Their tuning intentionally seeks the tritone? Seems like making the job unnecessarily difficult. Though I can’t argue with the result.
@@Jake_AC as long as the tuning makes sense to the player and they know what they’re doing with it, then eh lollol
I went to this gig last month!
Drew should narrate documentaries. Got the voice for it
I was at this show! They are such nice guys too
Whereabouts were they playing in Bristol?
5:21 "TesseracT"-folder hehe :D
Please do another with them!!!!!
I watch these videos and never have any idea what they're talking about. I wish I did...
True that man..but i am getting a hold of it. Haha
I would kill to have their fractal patches.
when tuning your guitar is more musical then most mainstream music...
Word! And heard!
Man, what are they doing on stage. It seems like their pedals went through a nuclear shitstorm or smth :D
Character
hey man, you gotta put on a show
Drew Goddard vs. Vin Diesel- who wins?
I'll put money on that's fucking Acle Kahney recording this. I know that beautiful man's voice
The things these guys could do with the line 6 variax. Alt tunings galore
Question I may have missed the answer to: What is that module/cable attached to Mark's PRS?
I think its a Roland Midi Pickup System. Works basically like the Line 6 Variax system
wish i could get your BOSS-GT6 presets
Sounds like Acle from Tesseract interviewing :D
With the massive variance in tuning, how do they get there tremolo to sit where it should?? It would be a nightmare to setup a guitar with a decent action and intonation changing tuning every song.
yeah, I know. Also it looked like they only had a few different guitars, so I wonder what string guage they use to accomodate for all the tunings..
Block it off; my strat as a big cube of stryofoam underneath.
that only applies to guitars that have a Floyd rose trem. i have one of my guitars set to Karnivool tuning BF#BGBE and i had no problem getting the trem to sit right. if its a fixed bridge theres no problem tuning up and down.

I can think of like 10 digital FX unit he could use besides the GT6. But then again this was 2013 lol
Drew is like Phil Anselmo, he speaks in drop C tuning.
Björn Fältet Drew speaks in Drop C, Phil speaks in F# Standard
Do we know the song in the beginning of the video?
Sky Machine
Whats the first song they played? at 0.03
❤
Anybody know what that doohickey on Mark's guitar is?
It's a boss midi pickup.
What does that do exactly?
***** Nah man it actually acts as a midi controller to give your guitar a different voice or instrument sound.
It's a on trick pony but it's one trick is fantastic. The clean channel is a load of shit so I have to kinda make my way around that. No truer words have been said about an amp.
fractal, Furman, tuner (which fractal has) and a midi controller is more cumbersome than all those pedals and wires? uh huh
whats the song in the beginning?
yeah....what is it..?
I just love how he refers to more than half of his gear as piece of shit ahahahhahahaa
"This gear is all terrible and it hardly works"
*clearly treats it very poorly and stomps on it with wet muddy boots and leaves it out in the rain*
"This gear is trash"
13:36 4x10? wtf

Brody Chandler good point :-)
If you didn't know they weren't using their usual full rigs, do you think you'd be able to tell at the gig?
Lyle Watt Doubt it :-) But just on principle! Full price ticket..full rig please! To be honest - was I only mucking about. I love 'em and would be in the front row whatever rig they brought to Prague.
...and I was two days ago in Prague!
SKULL YAWH HOSS!!!!!
I'm Aussie but Aussies all seem to say "ahhh" over and over
Justin Desouza ahhh i dont
Least the guitar tech will never get bored 🤷🤣
So why does he say he uses a dd-2 analog delay when its clearly a dd3 digital delay?
curious how Drew gets around the shit clean sound of the 5150
sHoss sounds like the Doctor from jjj :P
these guys really need an axe fx....
Toxic Potato And Boss doesn't???
Axe FX is fake, sure, but it sounds fucking great.
jeleopard Saw them live last night, they're running an Axe FX now anyway.
There were definitely a couple of amps from what I remember but I'm almost sure it was Hoss that was running an Axe FX. ***** Talked about this with a friend of mine earlier and he confirmed Hos was using an AxeFX for his effects. Still running through an amp.
iFlare Yeah, I've read in an interview that they really like the sounds they can get from the AxeFX effects (delays, reverbs etc), but have taken a stance on the modeling side of things: they really hate it. Prefer to use real amps and real cabs.
these guys just need performance tracks lol. fuck all that synth stuff
sounds like these guys need an Axe FX
if you listen around 17 minutes in, drew says he HAS one. but prefers the real gear.
WTF is growing on those pedals.....???
he knows homely means unattractive? he's saying a prs is ugly? or he feels "at home" with it I guess
it only does in american english. in british (and australian i suppose) english it means "simple, but cosy and comfortable".
