    Respect. I never heard this particular story before. Wings in the Night is my favorite SK story.

    Been listening to a lot of these narrated stories lately. The enthusiasm and intensity of this one is exactly what Solomon Kane deserves and needs. Kudos.

      @@whatthefox6303 Not Solomon Kane; the reason I picked this one is I believe it's the only audiobook that exists of this unfinished story. But I do have other audiobooks I've made on my channel playlist.

    You did a great job narrating the battle scene near the end. I'm sure Howard himself had such an energetic reading in mind when he wrote it.

    Very well done, I must admit I’ve been reading these stories for as long as I can remember now, and I’m 60 years old. This was easily one of the best audio versions I’ve heard. Once again all I can say is really well done and I’m definitely going to be listening to more of your material and the things you put out there. Great job.

    I'm bummed SK won't get the film, game media of other IPs. I LOVED the Purefoy film and grew up on the pulp novels.

    • @oliverjamesatkinson
      @oliverjamesatkinson  4 роки тому +4

      Yeah the purefoy film was fantastic. I watched it last year.
      Razorfist pitched a good concept for an SK game, if anywhere to revive it gaming seems the most likely candidate.
      I wouldn't want the source material tampered with though, if it got the Disney treatment it'd be a massive let down.

      @@oliverjamesatkinson I agree. I know there is a good tabletop game, Kickstarter funded. It's sad what a whore Disney is now. Dark/ish Disney films, like 20k Under the Sea, Scarecrow and Black Hole are beloved classics I adore. I think we'd need a time machine to get a good film. The BBC could def do a creditable minseries, but will never get the rights.

      @@oliverjamesatkinson VoxX, no problem. I suppose I should have stipulated: "BBC before it was completely overrun by money grabbing whores" Afraid your argument applies to almost the entirety of the film industry today. These days, I am spending more time mining the past, instead of stumbling from one modern disappointment to another.

    Dialogue which competes with constant insistant music is made unnecessarily difficult to appreciate. Whereas dialogue with occasional music that sensitively enhances the drama of that chapter is easier to fully appreciate. Thus it was that I sadly gave up listening to the story. The rule for background music is "More is less"!
    Less background music, especially mind knumbing innane music as in this story, is preferable!

    It’s really hard to enjoy these stories because of how suddenly and incredibly racist it can be at times. Almost out of nowhere then the subject is changed back just as quickly. It’s especially bad because it seems like Robert E. Howard is only sprinkling these little bits in just to puff up an ignorant air of white pride and overly defensive nationalism. Pretty sad, it reeks of insecurity. Solomon Kane himself would disapprove.

      Hardly, considering the period he was writing in RH non white characters are surprising intelligent and wise often more so than the white hero and the hero acknowledges the fact. It is the white treatment of the so called lesser being they control that often inflames SK,s righteous anger. Yes SK has a white savior trope but that is very surface level. if you look at the story often the Africans save themselves.
