I’m the owner of a 2021 Silverado RST with the 5.3 engine. At 6500 miles, I experienced a stuck lifter on the #8 cylinder. My dealer had proactive enough to have pre-ordered parts for the 5.3. They replaced all the valves and lifters in my engine. Originally, GM was just replacing one cylinder that had suffered the stuck lifter. Sometimes, in a few months, owners would be back in with a different cylinder experiencing problems. No problems in the 24 months since the repairs.
I have the 5.3 in my 2012 Suburban - excellent so far after 90,000 miles. 6 speed transmission. You must maintain these engines - proper and right oil changes.
@@chrisdrives8204 Yes, hard to imagine it will only runs on two cylinders. I haven't heard of problems as with the V-8's yet, but i'll avoid them all and choose the diesel.
Appreciate you pointing out the important facts and details. Unlike most that mainly talk about red tow hooks and soft touch door panels. The 2.7 has a form of cylinder deactivation as well, but a better system that so far has been ok. Maybe avoid them all and choose the Duramax diesel if you want a GM
i have a 2020 silverado with the 5.3, they say dirty oil is what cause the lifter problem, so i have been changing the oil and filter every 1k miles with mobile 1 and ac filter, no problem so far, have 65k miles on the truck and so far has spent 5k in oil change and had my oil pan replace because the threads on the drain plug was stripped out
it is pretty surprising how decent the 2.7 turned out to be, but i feel with the v8's (puts on tinfoil hat) the super thin 0w20 oil they used has at least something to do with the lifter failures, along with just poor part supplying of course
@@bodyguard5879 And you have the power and especially the torque of the 6.6 DirtyMax. That 6.6 gas engine is pretty popular so my nephew had to order one & spec his truck with 6.6 gas. He has the torque to pull a stump right out of the ground with little to no effort. The 6.6 gas engine is a BEAST....👍👌
@@CraigDurnin-c3x They all have experienced transmission problems & complete failures. I agree with you there are some complaints about transmission problems. However it's also more & more true lately with RAM & FORD as well. The joint venture with GM & FORD turned out to be a disaster. Nothing but trouble with the shared transmission venture.
@lastcall170 2004 Ram 2500 4×4 Reg Cab with a 5.7 Hemi and 5 speed Auto. Just turned 412,000 Miles. Original motor, Transmission. Besides two brake jobs, a couple of tune-ups and about 6 sets of tires. By far the best truck I've ever owned in my 58-year-old life. Bought the truck new. This truck gets worked hard but it's also maintained with the best of everything! My bow tie buddy has been through eight GM trucks to my one Ram. His GM trucks the engine goes bad or the transmission goes bad. He doesn't work his trucks like I do. He just rides around. My truck gets work hard.

Someone said "The 5.3 isn't great at anything, but it's pretty good at everything." and I think that sums it up just about perfectly. 😊
Long live the king of small blocks.... LS 5.3 & 6.2👌👍
BOTTOM LINE, DONT BUY ANY OF THEM
You couldn't afford it anyway 😂
Over priced trash and that is all of them not just GMC.
3.0 diesel. Over 325000 miles on mine so far no issues.
That's rare

Not the same as yours, new ones have dfm, and other issues.
I got the 6.2 l in my truck, and I've had 91000 trouble-free miles, not a single issue.
I have a 2022 Tahoe 6.2 and love it. The power and elegance is top notch, it's a High Country 😊
Correction, the 2.7 turbo ALSO has cylinder deactivation. It's a different system than found in the v8's, but it's still there.
Thanks, didn't realize that. I can't imagine on running less than 4 cylinders.

The V8 was a great engine before they ruined it with the cylinder deactivation!

NHTSA has opened an investigation on gm truck engines. So none as of now unless you get an older vechicle.
So the 3.0 diesel is the only engine in this lineup that doesn't use cylinder deactivation
Easy. The 5.3.
Save a lifter and buy a GMT 400 or GMT 800.
07 LBZ Duramax !! I got one
2.7 has cyl deac also.
Yes but it does not collapse valves as do the V8s which we all know is a big failure point.
Bfd?
I love GM trucks but I can’t afford to buy one and then pay to have an engine replaced because they are no good

2500HD 6.6 gas, no dfm.

5.3 was a workhorse back in the day, shame they are garbage now, looks like GM engineers went over and beyond and deactivated all 8 cylinders.
I never owned garbage. My chevy is the proof. Maybe you're just upset at the high cost of great trucks.
@@lastcall170 Why would I be upset, LOL. I don't give a damn what you own or why. Plenty of news about issues with 5.3L and 6.2L engine problems.

An easy modification is all you need. Bfd
All are junk!!!
I own 3.0 duramax LTZ. Love the engine. Other than that Chevy is a piece of garbage.
Men,
If you need a truck for W O R K,
for goodness sakes,
Get a RAM!!!
Ram trucks are the only trucks I've ever had Luck with! My Fords were okay. And the Chevrolets and GMCs were nothing but puss.
