FYI, freezer paper is used in the kitchen for wrapping meats, etc. for storage in the freezer. It can be found in the same grocery aisle with plastic wrap and foil wrap.
If you print in black and white you can also colour your fabric with watered down acrylic to make it look vintage watercolour effect by letting the colours blend into each other additional washes will give a deeper colour.
Sonya, thank you for sharing this info - I do use Freezer Paper here - We use to use it on the farm when we took a beef to market and had our various cuts wrapped and labeled to protect them from freezer burn. I also use it for lining dresser drawers on occasion. NOW I'm surely going to print my lovely pictures on so I can so my book with you. :) Thanks bunches and hugs.
Sonya, Freezer paper was what was used to wrap meat and other foods that went into the freezer before plastic bags and other things were used. It's great stuff. I even line the dresser drawers with it. Thanks for showing us how to use it in another fantastic way.
This technique has been around for about 10 years. You can also print directly from printer to fabric using starch. Wait briefly for starch to dry slightly, and feed through printer. You can also use a large spoon to the smooth the ink on the fabric. Gives a very antique finish.
Great Tutorial. I use Retayne color you take a container use warm to hot water follow the directions. I put some in plastic tub that came from hospital stays. You want to swish it around every few mins for total of 20 minutes. You can then safely wash and not worry abt bleeding.
Great tutorial easy to understand and follow. The cost of inkjet canvas is really expensive here in the UK and this works out a lot cheaper, I just have to find some freezer paper and I can then try it out Tfs, Janet x
Great stuff, Sonya. For the fabric I use men's hankies with the edges cut off. They are made from very thin cotton and you can tea dye them first for a vintage look. TFS. Ger x
Another Fab tutorial. I have done this but had forgotten about it. Duh!!!! We use freezer paper a lot here when you have a farm and butcher meat you use freezer paper to wrap your meat to freeze. The wax finish helps protect the produce. You can buy it by the roll in the grocery store just like wax paper. Thanks Sonja once again love your channel. Hugs Nola
+Nola Harris Hello Nola the Freezer paper is not the one you use for food its one you buy at the patchwork shop or Fabric shops !! I think its called freezer because you iron it one and it freezers to the paper Lol big hugs Sonya
You can use the same thing you buy in the fabric store for the freezer, I have it is exactly the same. If I run out in the kitchen I just grab my roll in the craft room. LOL Double duty!!! Hugs Nola
Nola Harris if anyone is reading this and can tell me where I can get it in the Uk I sure would appreciate it. I've never seen it here....well I have but it had my butcher meat wrapped in it, lol I'm sure it tasted better than it would have copied lol Huggles xxxAnnxxx
Believe it or not, Australia isn't that far advanced yet, we can't but it cheaply at the supermarket, we have to buy it at the craft store for about $13 a short roll at Spotlight. Australia, where everything is bloody expensive.
Hi Sonya, thanks for a really good tutorial. I watched Irene's and learned a lot & now you've given me another option. And I already have freezer paper :-). TFS Kathy from Boston
Dear Sonya, as always your tutorial is very clear. I appreciate you taking the time for this as it's a technique I've often thought of using as it's cost effective. Now I just need to find a shop that sells freezer paper. TFS, Amanda xox
Just a side note or two, muslin works really well. Also cutting your freezer paper first can be helpful, then you can lay out your fabric and iron it on then cut the fabric to the right size. You can also do more than one sheet at a time. ^^ I love this technique. Also impt step is to peel the pictures off the paper and soak in white vinegar for 5 minutes. then rinse and dry. The vinegar will set the ink so it stays and doesn't run.
the reason it's called freezer paper is because it's what meat was wrapped in to put in to a freezer to stop to sticking or freezing together. Also this is NOT transferring a image, it's printing on to fabric
I'm not going to worry about mussing up the printer since it's now becoming cheaper to buy a new printer then to purchase the ink for an old one. :) I know this is an older video, but the info was great. thanks again.
nice tutorial. but I would have liked to see it being printed. freezer paper used to be called butchers paper here in the uk. it was used by butchers to wrap the customers meat ☺
I like the idea i'ts awesome! I think it would be best to iron both piece of freezer paper and fabric first and then cut the excess on the sides after ironing so that it will be easier to cut that way it wont be moving around =) other than that you did a really great Job! Thanks for sharing =)
Cool ... I have some of this paper in the garage will try it, I tried that tee shirt transfere stuff you can get and couldn't get the blooming paper off the back so this looks good thank you Sonya x
Great tutorial - thanks! How permanent is the printed image on the fabric? Does it need to be set somehow if it's going to be used on a quilt or something else you might want to wash? Trimming the fabric to match the printer paper might be easier and more accurate with a rotary cutter. I would use a pressing sheet or parchment paper to iron the fabric to the freezer paper to get the edges nice and secure without gunking up my iron. Again, one could square up the final freezer papered fabric using a rotary cutter as an alternative to scissors.
Sonya, Thank you, thank you, thank you. I live in Northern N.S.W & have spent so much time looking in grocery shops for freezer paper. Now I know I was looking in the wrong type of shop. Of to get some. Norma
Norma Magnay Hello Norma , its lovely to meet another Aussie ,I am so pleased you can get your self some of this paper !! most people think its is a grocery item but I think its because of the name. hank you so much for your comment hope you have fun with your project Big hugs Sonya
You said the paper has nothing to do with freezer, but years ago I remember my mother wrapping meat in freezer paper to put in freezer! Maybe that’s how it got it’s name?
Hi Sonya, it's very nice to see you and I hope that you're doing well! Thank you so much for this tutorial, I've wondered how to do this! Thank you! I:-) I hope that you have a wonderful day. Hugs and many blessings... Bobbi Ann
Good tutorial, Sonya. Don't understand the thumbs down gang, though. TIP: If you can't find it in your local grocery store by the roll, ask the butcher in the meat department if you could buy some from him. Or go to your local butcher shop/fish shop. They should have it on huge rolls, and I'm sure they'd be happy to help a customer and part with some of it.
Hi mum!! I just want to say one thing....bloody ripper!! oh hang on that was two....if that works for you don't go waste your money on the bought stuff because it's expensive. I have the proper stuff but I also have the freezer paper too...so I'll be giving your way a go...I know my printer is a bit temperamental when I'm trying to print on tea dyed papers so I'm going to see if some of the other stuff I have might work better. It's just getting the paper to go in safely at the start....Thanks so much for sharing this....very very helpful....and if it works for me....money saving. Thanks mum love ya Shaz
Thanks for sharing your tutorial. I will definitely try this. I just have to get freezer paper which is not common here in Germany. Just one question: I read somewhere that freezer paper is reusable. So wouldn't it be better to first remove the paper from the fabric? You could reuse the entire A4 sheet and still cut the fabric in pieces.
Have you tried sewing with cork fabric? Cork fabric is new to me so I don't know how long it's been sold for sewing. I have started making bags and I would like to have an image on my cork. Have you any suggestions for transferring an image to the cork fabric? I don't want to cut it up (it's expensive) to put through my printer.
Hi Sonya, wow your way is a lot more professional than mine!!! I had a go today of sticking some fabric on paper and put it through my comp lol, I will definetly do it your way now, so calico is the fabric is it? and also where do they sell freezer paper? also how do you get all your pics on the same page, I would love to see a tutorial on how to do that I can only put one print and then turn the paper the other way and make another so 2 prints all up is all I can put on one paper, thanks for the tutorial, love irene
Why don't you iron the paper on the fabric THEN cut it out? Be much easier. By the way, freezer paper is used for wrapping food to put in the fridge or freezer, e.g. Burgers, sausages etc
ISO- Waxed Freezer paper. Used to be that all stores carried the freezer waxed paper but not anymore. 😔 They changed to plastic wrap. I've spent weeks looking for the waxed freezer paper with no luck. 😢 I really want to do this so I can get the designs I have on 🎀. Does anyone know where I can buy this in the US? TIA 🌹🙋🏻♀️
Thanks for sharing. This is a great way for making personalized projects. Can you use a heat press to set the ink that you did in the last step of this process?
Oh my heavens it worked I have some awesome antique prints on my muslin. This is so way cool. Thank you Sonja. They are so awesome, I love it.. Tried to get them on here to show you but it doesn't work. I can't thank you enough. This is such a great idea. Great big squish, Judy
Hellooooooooo Sonya Wow love this tutorial, ive so want to get some pictures to put on projects, now i know how. brilliant, thankyou big hugs Bernie xxx

Then I saw your reply and your in Uk, I live in Suffolk. Did you try doing this? What paper did you use? Where did you get it? I have the usual grease proof paper, but that one Sonia has looks a bit waxy....is it. I know this was a year ago, if you answer, thanks in advance xxx
Ann Littler you can buy it online from Amazon UK, the make is Reynolds freezer paper £4.99 per roll + free delivery . Looks like Dunelms sell it too but it's quite expensive from there. Hope this helps.
Sonya, lovely tutorial but could you tell me where you found the images used here. They are perfect for that vintage look. What words did you use to search for this type of picture. Are they from Greeting Cards?

+Merry Johnson & Sonya Stepto.....I don't know if this works BUT Using vinegar to set the colors of brand-new clothing works great. When washing new clothing for the first time ADD your water, then your detergent in your washing machine. Then just before adding the clothes, ADD ONE CUP of Vinegar ( you can use White Distilled Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar, either one works) to the wash water ......After the first washing like this, repeat adding Vinegar to your wash about every 6-8 times you wash your clothing.
