- How to use the Singer Professional 5 Serger. How to rethread the serger. How to change the needles. How to use the manual. My labels 4 & 5 are reversed. Whoops. Not a big deal because they are both needles.

So I'm almost a decade late to this party, but I wanted to say thank you for not only making this video, but also for leaving it up this long so us late comers can learn too :)
Thanks! I've had one of these machines for quite a while (8 years!), got intimidated, then busy, but am ready to try again. I appreciate the time you've put in to publish these.
I'm not sure if you still get these comments, but this video is fantastic. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this. I just picked up this machine, and initially was quite intimidated. Your video was very well done, and it felt like a private lesson in figuring out how to use it. Much appreciated for the great instructional!
Best tutorial I've seen by far for the Professional 5!! Thanks so much for making my machine set-up and threading a breeze! :)
Thank you for showing & explaining how to use this machine. I bought it from a friend brand new in open box. I’ve had it for over a year, have taken it out of the box and been scared of it. You explain everything so clearly that I am ready to try it. Thanks.
This video is SO helpful! I got this machine for my birthday 3 months ago and have been COMPLETELY intimidated by it ever since! You've helped remove so much of the mystery from what seems like a vey complicated machine. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I was in a state of panic and quite frustrated with my new overlock. You made it all so simple!
i just opened my box! im so excited, im probably going to watch this 20x
+Janelle Speaks Awesome! Let me know if you run into trouble!
This video just changed my life! Thank you! I sobbed all day trying to figure out my machine! You made it so simple for me :) thank you !!
I just got my machine today and am so excited to use it...I have a small serger but it gave me to many headaches so I decided to upgrade for my pet product business....your video is very helpful I must say. It looks a bit daunting but what serger doesn't! Thanks for the great info!
Thank you so much for this video. After watching, I was able to understand my instruction manual better. I went back to book and checked every setting, threading and needle position (also put in new needles). I moved the needle to a wide stitch position for the 5 thread safety stitch and it sews beautifully.
I am so glad this video could help!
Hi, Thank you so much for your video, I bought this machine since last year and so afraid to use it. After watch you video, I’m now able to use and switch different stitches.
Thank you! Was wondering about which serger to buy (had an old 3 thread from umpteen years back) and this video showed a lot of good information. I hadn't bought yet so glad that you showed the manual and how to use it.
I still love mine!
I felt so intimidated by this machine. I also have a Brother 1034D, and it is so much more simpler. My husband got this for me as a surprise. He also threaded it for me, but I have yet to use it. I really appreciate this video. I really makes this seem a lot easier! Thank You!
I ordered this same machine online from Singer and it just arrived yesterday, I'm quite intimidated too just like others here. I agree, your video has help me a lot to get me started.
The instruction Book that came with it is very good, very detailed and all, but with individuals like myself, I like to see it visually how it's set up to get me started as well. Thank you so much. :-)
Very, very helpful. Really Good info on the manual. Thank you.
I just opened my box about 15min ago and have never bought a brand new serger my white is a basic serger and my elna was a pro as well but I got it used and a lower looper broke and no place could replace it for me but the entire machine was digital (I was spoiled) so I chose the stitch and left all the threads in at all times and it just didn’t use the threads it didn’t need so this was a shock to open (intimidating to say the least) thank you so much for this quick start guide!!
Thank you for your help threading my 5 thread serger. I have a Singer Professional 5 Serger and tieing off the threads helped a lot... hopefully I can task threading it by myself one day. and changing out the needles. But I was testing it for the 90 day period to see if it worked and it did...Thank you !!!
That is great!
I just got one of these this past Christmas...it is still in the box because I have no idea how to get started ...watching your video gives me an idea of how to begin....thanks for your info
wow thank you so much for making this video! I was so intimidated by this machine but after watching your video i feel excited to get into it
Thank you for making this video.I appreciate it....had my Singer 5 thread serger for almost 8 years and have yet to get it going.Gonna try tomorrow:)

Thanks so much, I am intimidated by this machine, my Serger Brother only had 2 needles and 4 threads.
this was soooo helpful! thank you!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video but i have a question. Can i use different kinds of threads together-simultaniosly . Like regular overlock thread for cutting and overlocking and polyester bound threads for secure stitch.
Any your answer will be appreciated
This is very helpful.
This was super helpful compared to most videos I tried to understand. But in the reference chart, from #2-#5 why do they have two columns of settings? Which one do you use?
I just cannot figure out how to thread this machine for a cover stitch. I've tried and tried and I can't get it right. Can you do close-up shots inside so I can see what the "brown" trail is?
Thank you you save me god bless you
Is there a video showing the threading of all the the colours for the first time? My machine came threaded but they got pulled out.
Good idea in label the knobs
How can you get the seam guide or the knife cover to lock in place? I’m afraid to force it and maybe break the plastic.
I just opened mine tonight. I find the book intimidating.
Very well explain! I plan to buy this machine soon! It seem sold out to a lot of places!
I found mine on Amazon...just got it today. :-)
How is it going with your new machine?
Does this machine have removable covers to do free arm type stuff? sorry about the lack of technical wording, just shopping for my wifes xmas gift. thanks
DESDE CDMX MEXICO INFINITAS GRACIAS POR EL VIDEO ; UNA PREGUNTA PODRAS ENVIARME EL LINK DEL INSTRUCTIVO .
Do you happen to know hpw to engage the knife? Ive tried using it followed directions from booklet putting it 8n but ots not cutting
I think this video is great but I can't get the red line (lower looper) threaded. Does the other end of the machine open?
That would be nice if it opened. Did you figure it out?
having trouble threading the red lower looper...any suggestions.been following diagram and video with no luck toward the end of the threading
Hello Ali I enjoy your instructions so much better then some others on this machine. My husband passed three years ago ,but before he did this is the last machine he brought me this Singer Serger Professional 5, it's also my very first serger so you see as intimidated as I am I refuse to allow it to give me another headache...lol. I successfully managed to sew the double chain stitch, but trying to sew #8 is giving me problems it's not cutting off the edge what am I doing wrong. Please help...I' ready to sew again this is the first time since Freddie passed.
wanda, did you turn up the knife?
Hi, I just got mine and I’m have such a hard time. Somehow I keep treading the red wrong. I cannot get a good Stich on three thread overlock. I completely confused. I have the needle correct on right side. It seems I have my white (blue and greed) correct but on the red ( which I use black) it’s not working. Help!
I am trying to thread and I have a question if I am not using a thread do I need to take it out or just leave it hang?
When you remove a thread, pull it out and wrap it back up on the thread cone so that it doesn't get in the way of other threads. Good question.
Hi do you have any more videos on this machine. I'm not getting the results I want with the 3 thread overlock. The loops are slightly over the material. I followed the instructions and tried adjusting the looper tensions with no luck. Can you please make a video. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Ali, I just got mine, and currently have an old goodwill find , straight stitch. I would like to get an updated, reliable, easy to use straight stitch machine....can you suggest one. I owned a Project Runway Brother for a while....something along those lines...nothing toooo expensive, I sew Samples from home and things for my kids.
I have the Singer Professional XL-50. That may have more features than you need. If you just need straight stitch, you can go with the simple Singer machine found here.. fave.co/28SU8XE
I bought it wit cut thread..can you show me how I can thread it..please
im doing #8 stitch and it keeps getting jammed it would start good then just keeps sewing in the same place also having problems after its threaded where does the thread go under over the ones that looks like the knive
Do you have any videos on how to do a Double Chain Stitch?
Thank you Ali!!! ;-)
+Vanessa Freire No Problem @Vanessa Freire
Ali MamasLove
O
,
The knife is turned up now...Thank you
Its always something simple right?
Seriously considering this machine. Your video may have been the deciding factor. I love how the manual is organized and the way in which you explained it. I just might be able to handle this!!!!! Thank you so much. Do you still recommend this machine or do you feel a different machine would be better for a beginner who wants a machine I can grow into?
Did you get this machine?
Lorelei Dwyer not yet!!!!!! But its on my wish list!!!! I feel confident this will escalate my sewing skills to the next level! Thanks so much!
Can you tell me where I could get another Manual to go with this machine? I bought it second hand and didn’t receive one.
Have had this serger since 2005 and never used it - can’t understand how to thread it!
can I use this machine for regular stitch(A)?
hola.. buen dia . me pueden informar en colombia bogota quien las trae . muchas gracias
Ok when the machine began to sew the green stay threaded, but the red and brown come's undone. What am I doing wrong Ali? I have the right top needle, and the bottom middle needle threaded.
Did turning the knife help?
Hi, I really like the way you explained it and I fell in love with this serge and finally got it, problem is, I am unable to sew because I appear to be too stupid for threading..help! a video on every colour would be wonderful >.
I will have to do this. I have had several requests.
I just bought this machine off a lady who used it once! She didn't know how to use it and sold it to me. I have to replace the needles. I bought the recommended Singer #2022 pack and it has 5 needles (different colours). Is there a specific order by colour to put them in or they can go anywhere in the serger holes? :O). Signed...newbie!
On the face plate, there is a N and an R that are etched into the plate. What do they refer to?
im looking for the flat stitch cover can anyine help ..thank u so much
hello very good video ,thank you can you talk me where you buy the threads? I live in new jersey thank you
I hope I wasn't rude and not tell you thank you very much for your help. Now here is my other thing I did wrong one of my screws fell out and now I cannot get it back in I guess I have to buy a needle clamp. Do you know any thing about putting in a new one? It looks easy with one screw, but I have done that before looks easy but not.
I haven't had experience with that. Did you get it fixed?
@@alimamaslove1980 Yes I took to a repair man. I love this machine.TY for your tutorials.
What foot do you use for sergering???
Please where can i get the manulbook to buy ? Thank you.
Can this machine use as a regular sewing machine?
Hello Sew buddies! H.E.L.P.....I'm trying to make this serger stitch (Two-thread Wrapped Edge Overlock) the machine is sewing but not stitching. Please help me. Blue needle, Red lower looper, spreader on, Finger knob (N). 0
Does your machine work still?
how do I get a book on this machine
I made adjustments it seem to work for a few, it didn't seem right and bam three broken needlesI just can't get it?? I don't quit but it is very frustrating
Terr Bear, I made a video for you. I know how frustrating it can be to be stuck. Watch it here m.ua-cam.com/video/bN5QoeVIp4w/v-deo.html "threading Singer Professional 5 (first time). Let me know if it helps!! You got this.
Also, make sure when you are sewing on stretch, let the fabric guide itself in. Any tension from your hands can cause broken needles. Anxious to hear about your success.
In the minute 12 of the video I noticed this machine didn`t work for you either. This happen with most people that use this machine cause it has a problem with the tension system
I received as a gift
Please what is the nidle size
Porque corta tanto margen la cuchilla de mi máquina ??
I just got my machine and it didn't come with the manual
Need help threading the red .. not showing details on threading when close to the looper…?🥴
I need help my machine I have threaded multiple times and it does not sew a stitch?????
I hve ajusted the tension and nothing
Can you be specific about what stitch you are trying to do? I try not to adjust tensions until after it is sewing properly and even then, only if needed. Use the dials and the reference chart to make sure that you havent missed a small detail like the spreader. If nothing else is working, unthread completely and start from the beginning. One small thing overlooked can cause the entire thing not to work.
I am trying to do #6 stitch and I get nothing I have undone it several times and it doesn't sew??? So now I tried another stitch and it went great but I want 6 stitch Again another day refreshed tried again it will not stitch
follow your instructions but mine not stitching,
I am a nwe in serger machine
a little intimidated?! I bought it 8 years ago and it’s still brand-new. 🥹
