They didn't flag the difference in Fury because Disney doesn't let the people doing different projects with the same character know what's going on in their other projects because they're afraid of leaks. One of the Wandavision creatives said that, they didn't have any idea what was happening with Wanda in Multiverse of Madness when they were making the series
No wonder 😮 I felt like the Wanda in the end of Wanda vision has decided to move on but...the one in that movie felt like Wanda...didn't have that same determination.
The other reason is that most likely Samuel L. Jackson is most likely just collecting paychecks and this point and didn't stand up for his character and say this was out of character.
It's the reason but also not an excuse, they need to trust their talent (and their NDAs!) more and let them in on the work. Also their stories should hold up if-god forbid--some spoilers should leak.
I think the reason being that The Marvels is supposed to be released before Secret Invasion on Disney+ but that didn't happen because of the delay and the reshoots. That's why Nick Fury felt a bit different tonally.
Dude my jaw dropped hearing Dan call this an "unmitigated disaster" like holy crap Dan is usually so generous and sympathetic to the work that goes into these movies so to hear him just flat out say that??? Wow this has got to be the low point for the franchise
Right, normally the phrase "unmitigated disaster" is pretty soft for a youtube review, but when DAN says it, oh man you know it's time to start panicking.
I don’t understand how anyone can still pay money for their product which has been declining since Age to Ultron. With the original cast largely gone, the new age films are going to continue to fail because the stories are the same over and over again. There are no stakes if the world has to be saved again and again. The actors are phoning it in for a paycheque. Passion has been replaced by agenda and everyone there is just trying to squeeze all the honey milk they can out of this old washed up cow. The series should’ve ended after endgame and a hiatus imposed for 30-40 years before a new crop of performers take these characters in a new direction for another generation.
It's not. The absolute low point is Secret Invasion. The film is perfectly average superhero fun. Not must-see, but far from an "unmitigated disaster".
Man I really like how you're not gleeful when you criticise a thing - it's so different from most of the other review shows and general review content on youtube. Really appreciate it man.
Glad to hear people being honest and I hope Marvel listens. Its clear that you and a lot of other reviewers are coming from a place of loving the MCU and wanting it to return to its phase 3 glory
Yes, I agree. I think love and thunder was disgusting. This was much better, and the humor was at least worth laughing at. Huge wholes and continuity issues for sure in this film. Still had 6 people with me and not all Marvel fans still enjoy this film. My bet is Love and Thunder they would of hated.
The difference between the buildups of Thanos and Kang are very telling about the state of the MCU. Thanos was barely shown and was highly feared when spoken of by other characters. When he finally was shown in action, he easily clapped the Hulk at the start of an Avengers movie. Kang on the other hand was introduced in a Disney+ show, and was shown in great length in a poorly received Ant Man movie, and by the end of it, he was handily defeated and embarrassed. The fact that there are still other variants out there is irrelevant because the general audience still watched his character get whooped by Ant Man’s pets. How the studio didn’t consider this a huge mistake is quite telling.
Agreed, and it also seems like all they've done with Kang is introduce him over and over. Loki season one: we meet Kang ("he who remains") where he explains everything. Quantumania: we meet Kang the Conqueror, and like you said - see him get beaten by ants. Loki season two: sure looking like it's an origin story for either he who remains or some other Kang variant. It's enough already, if we're supposed to be interested in this guy we need to actually see him doing something, anything, that looks like "conquering."
well he who remains was introduced as basically an omnipotent & omniscient ruler of the entire universe & timeline who dictated everything thanos accomplished so i'm gonna have to disagree with you there. & in quantumania kang was betrayed by his lieutenant (which yes was done in a very silly way) & really only had powerful clothes to defend himself against a stampede of thousands of enormous, armed & apparently genius ants. i don't know know why you'd expect a clothed yet exiled kang to be physically stronger than thanos with an infinity stone...
Dan calling this an "unmitigated disaster" is crazy lol! Because usually when he dislikes a movie, he'll sort of soften the blow in his reviews to not hurt too many feelings, but here he didn't hesitate to call it trash lol.
Your analogy of a symphony versus cacophony is so perfect. Yes! You can have multiple tones in your movie as long as they’re balanced effectively, but when they aren’t, it’s disastrous.
Dan is one of the few film reviewers I trust. Even films that are terrible, like Moonfall, he's able to see it both as a critic and as a film fan. So hearing him flat out say "this movie is unwatchable and unworkable in it's current condition", holy crap this movie is a dumpster fire.

All you have to do is listen to almost all the youtube reviews and the incoherency and lack of a real plot are all mentioned. By the way, the way you know this movie is bad is by looking at ticket sales. Let's compare a movie that cost $20 million to this monstrosity of mediocrity. Freddie opening weekend $81 million. It had hardly any advertising. The Marvels high projection is $51 million. Need I say more. Absolute garbage of a movie and I am making sure that people realize it before they waste their money like you did. Dan and Jeremy were not just on board, they were sitting next to each other in the metaphorical trainwreck that is "The Marvels." I think the "mystery" of why there was a review embargo, has...been...solved. (Chris doesn't do "negative" reviews anymore, so I think this makes it 100%)
What is going on with quality control at Marvel Studios? The brand is badly damaged, so they need every release to knock it out of the park. Yet they're a-ok releasing tidal waves of mediocre junk. Out of the dozens of things they've released since Endgame, I can count on one hand the ones that are actually worth watching. It looks conspicuously like Disney is trying their damnedest to tank the super hero genre.
I think the Thanos saga was just an organic growth and ti's hard to do that again. And especially spreading themselves so thin with the TV shows. Like I'm not gonna watch a movie where I gotta be caught up on 60 hours of some other show.
2 things happened - 1) Quantity over quality - It's not like MCU in IS never had bad movies. They did but at that time the numbers were few and only 2-3 at max movie was coming per yr. Also if they had bad movies they had great movies too. Contrast to that to post Endgame, most r average at best. The ratio of great : bad is like 0 : 10+ and that's terrible sign. 2) Getting full of yourself or more like hiring people like it. - The fracture actually started when Captain Marvel was forced fed and that even with poor writing. Getting people who can't write court room to write a whole show based on court room. I don't even know what Feigie was thinking?! A whole lot of mess created only by them. Even Thor 4 got sabotaged by it's own director bcs he got egoistic. Ego is what tanked the ship.
I feel like Marvel haven't been too bothered about keeping personalities / writing in line between television shows and movies after the whole Wandavision / Multiverse Of Madness thing happened, but glad to see that hasn't stopped them doing it again.
Moral of the story is: if you're going to make someone do an 11 hour round trip to do a review of your movie, you better make sure it's a great movie. Lol. Love your passion, love your commitment to bring us these reviews even after a grueling day. You definitely need to take some additional time off for your honeymoon. We'll all be here when you're back
Na, my friend. I love Dan. But don't let UA-cam dictate your decisions. I enjoyed the crap out of this review and STILL went to see the movie. And enjoyed it thoroughly. Sometimes, you'll never know 🤷🏻♂️
Welcome to the other side of disappointment, Enam. Life is so much better once you realize that movies are allowed to have 3rd acts that consist of more than cutscenes with actors pasted in.

How are the same creative team that gave us the Infinity Saga getting the next phase so very very wrong? I *loved* Wanda Vision on Disney+, but Wanda's portrayal in Multiverse of Madness made it very clear that the TV hand was not talking to the movie hand. Sounds like exactly what Dan experienced with Nick Fury, which is just baffling to me. Infinity Saga worked so well BECAUSE they linked things together. It felt inter-related and all parts of a whole. Disney+ has made it worse, not better, at filling in gaps etc. I'm so disappointed 😞
Ike pearlmutter is gone and Feige just wants to swap out popular characters for women and diversity which is fine but when it becomes their only character trait other than "good and likeable!" It creates a boring story
Yeah, it kinda sucks that we won't get to see him until maybe Kang Dynasty? Or Secret Wars who knows but I truly wish we had had a chance to at least get a Shang Chi 2 before that but guess not. 😒
I don't even want a DC "plan" I just want good movies with good actors with good stories that are creative and aren't just focused on setting up the next movie or show in the series."
I think you have to go to the crossroads and make a deal with the devil to get a ten year plan like Marvel’s. Clearly, that deal has expired and they are now in literal Hell.
I have heard this movie is a fusion of light, color and sound, it also has moving picture with different sounds perfectly synced to the said images, and these images would change frequently as well at a rate of 30 times every second. Truly a technological marvel.
I thought I heard that Quantumania was released ahead of this movie because they felt like that movie was further along in development. To hear that this movie STILL feels like it was unfinished makes me wonder if they just couldn't figure out how to make it work at any point.
I was so pumped for this movie and after hearing Dan's thoughts about this movie just brought my excitement down to zero😭😭😭. I trust Dan so it's such a bummer. 2023 is not the year for any of the Marvels itseems.
GotG Vol. 3 was truly excellent. And Loki S2 has been getting good reviews. So there’s that. Dan was in the extreme minority on not liking Guardians 3.
Guardians 3 and Loki S2 are easily the best things Marvel has done since Endgame. The issue is the bad stuff has been SO bad, it’s kinda drowned those out
Cant be pumped for a movie with 3 charactere that have never been successful in the comics..ever. Marvel actually lost money selling and rebooting Capt Marvel over and over again. Meanwhile the Spiderman 2 game is selling like hotcakes. Just give the fans what they want...characters that are good.
It’s been very clear to me that after endgame they had no big plan to build towards. Every movie before endgame were road markers on a map leading to that end! WandaVision was good, I liked Loki, and it felt like the shows were leading to Dr Strange and the Multiverse of madness and that’s where I realized there was no plan. The Loki multiverse explosion not having anything to do with Dr Strange, or the Spiderman multiverse stuff, showed me they stopped communicating and linking things.. I figured ant man, Dr Strange, Loki, etc could all start having Kang as this overarching multiverse villain and everything would link together but it’s not.. it’s all random and convoluted unfortunately.
they should have paused after Endgame and drastically reduced the output of shows and movies until they figured out their next project. but they continued and squandered all the good will built up through the years and it'll be very hard to get this back.
studios dont know how to say when enough is enough. The MCU was a cinematic triumph, that was almost universally loved. They won't be satisfied until they've milked every last drop of life out of it to the point that people will forget how good it used to be.
They didnt have a plan before Endgame either. Just look at all the different storylines that were dropped/remixed during shooting both Infinity War and Endgame. Poor Hulk 😢
@@728GT they definitely did. The first 3 movies were leading to avengers and the first captain America introduced the first infinity stone with the tesseract. In the avengers we had the second infinity stone with lokis scepter. We were shows thanos at the end of avengers. First few movies already leading to the infinity stone saga and overall villain. We had some movies like ant man which were just to introduce new characters but those movies stood on their own as well. But the next Thor we had another infinity stone, and those movies were leading to the next avengers which also introduced us to more infinity stone stuff. Etc There was a pattern and a plan. Individual movies, followed by avengers movies. All of which hinting at the infinity stone stone stuff or thanos after the credits. They all lead into each other naturally.
@@KMReviews nah. Even Feige stated every movie was a playground for the possible storyline. If something worked, they kept it. If not, they changed plans. Like how the tesseract magically became an infinity stone or how thanos already had the gauntlet despite it being in Odins possession. They knew Thanos was the big bad. That was about it.
Looking back at the state of the MCU over the last few years and the declining enthusiasm that comes with it, I'm even more impressed with what GOTG 3 was able to do, especially when you look at it's opening weekend. That really speaks to the quality and reception of that movie. Which, in turn, is actually even worse news for the studio because it came from the man who is not only leaving your camp, but going to the competitor as well. Rough times roght now for Marvel.
As a fan who used to be a fan of the MCU ( Last one I watched was Guardians), I was incredibly skeptical about Marvels because the review embargo date and the trailers. Although I wish I could remain optimistic it was difficult for me not to predict this outcome
Im already noticing that the major outlets are praising it (so far), but the reviewers I trust (like you) are seeing it very differently… (Also…first comment…yes!)
Yeah that happens everytime - the intial reactions has some people saying "best MCU movie since endgame, etc" like with Antman 3 and Thor 4. But when real reviews out, there real picture comes out.
Think about this: The Flash had lots of actors and writers saying it’s one of the best movies ever. After people saw for themselves, it was the opposite
Damn. I was expecting Dan to be a little nicer to this movie, but he just did not pull punches with it. Gotta admire the honesty, this is why I'm subscribed.
If you're a fan of the Ms. Marvel show, I still recommend the movie to be honest. I seem to be the only Dan viewer on earth who thinks it's worth seeing, and I'm making peace with that. Lol. Iman is definitely the best part of the movie, I think Dan and I would agree on that.
Ehh I’d disagree with that. Far worse? I think it just depends how you like your superhero movie. The Marvels was just boring and ugly besides the young actress, she was great! Antman was the same but Paul Rudd at least has charismatic and Kang the villain was good.
Its refreshing to actually see real criticism on a marvel movie and not the online circle jerking most channels on here do. you explained what makes this not work as a movie instead of just saying " its obvious trash" or " woke".
This is sad. I've also been an MCU fan since Day 1 and I've always committed to seeing every movie in theaters. My wife and some of my friends have stopped going long ago but I still go. But to know how bad this is is sad because it also means they're digging the hole even deeper, so then it puts even more pressure on the next project to be so good that MCU climbs out of this hole
They definitely have there work cut out for them. The next 5 movies have to be nearly perfect for the public reception to change. This is coming from someone who still loves the mcu
I had to Google “black girl magic”. I know in the US you’re not allowed to admit things like that, but as a person from rest-of-world, I can tell you that _inclusivity_ to us appears like US-centric references that we don’t get. If the movie is good, that will elicit curiosity, but it seems it’s always paired with “make it lame”. US and RoW ticket sales will continue to diverge.
this has nothing to do with anything but I wish to visit NZ at some point - what a beautiful country! and I love Kiwi Bake Off and Taskmaster NZ. (and TBF re-watching those shows might be better than watching this marvels movie)
It's a real shame, I wanted to go see this film, but the honest fact is I'm just not that loyal to Marvel anymore. If they fail to deliver, I don't owe them my money. I'll wait til it comes on streaming.
Appreciate the honesty Dan. I personally enjoyed it despite its flaws. No offense but personally I find it baffling that Marvels can be called anything close to an unmitigated disaster that Quantumania was. But I understand.
I was waiting for your review bc I’m a big fan of Larson, but the trailers didn’t do anything for me. As always, you delivered a great review (as in your critique is well done haha)
Sad for Brie, I've liked her in some movies. I think she should just quit this franchise and go back to her indie routes where she's way better treated in those movies than she was in this franchise
The problem with this movie is the fact that they failed in every aspect that makes a good movie - no emotions ( What makes a good movie is how you make the audience have emotional investment ) - no good character chemistry - weaker villain than hero - no stakes in this movie ( there is no big difference between before and after the movie ) - you plot is so simple , you can summarise it in 5 lines How is this movie 300 million dollars
TBF I left off post-credit scenes of movies I liked, simply because the call of nature was much stronger. I then simply googled it and read a description of it.
I wanna preface this by saying I always respect Dan's opinion and professionalism 100%, however having seen the film just today, "unmitigated disaster" is way too harsh a term in my opinion, it most definitely is nowhere near on the level of some of my favorites like No Way Home, Civil War, Endgame & the Guardians Trilogy, but it is absolutely nowhere near the bottom of the barrel of my least favorites like The Dark World & Iron Man 2, "unmitigated disaster" to me makes it sound like Elektra/Ghost Rider/X-Men Origins: Wolverine levels of bad which I don't think it is
Idk how many times that Dan has actually given out a Stay Away tag on a movie. I’m super bummed that Marvel seemed to kind of give up on this movie because it could’ve been really good.
what bothers me the most is that with this film they had everything served on a silver plate regarding character development and emotional build up. They had Monica and Carol's complicated relationship - they haven't seen each other in so long, Monica felt abandoned for years and should hold animosity towards Carol due to being deeply hurt. And on the other hand we have Kamala, a complete opposite to Monica - a fangirl who idolizes Carol and sees only the best in her. And then we have Carol, a lonely superhero who hasn't worked in a team in a long time, likes to ignore emotional conflicts and run away from problems, rather than address them.. and then you have all 3 forced to be around each other due to their powers - which should create immense pressure, for Carol especially, since there are two people who see her in completely different lights and have completely different expectations. and she can't run away this time but has to face them, while also trying to save the world. The fact that even saving the world she now can't do alone, because the other 2 are caught in so she has to find a way to work it out. There should be more struggle, more at stake, more responsibility that she would feel to protect the two, more seriousness, layers, emotion etc. And even though they had all of this so perfectly ready to build upon.. they merely scratched the surface and did absolutely nothing with the characters, 0 emotional build up, 0 satisfaction, 0 tension, 0 villain actual presence or story impact (whatever tf happened with the musical planet after the marvels left???).. It felt so rushed, as if no thought was put into it, as if 100 different people who never met each other worked on the film without communicating. It's so frustrating for real because it could have been so glorious and deep..
I was confused at first, but I think you meant "Malekith", because "Maliketh" from Elden Ring is one of the most interesting and tragic characters, .It is interesting though that a fantasy game can have far more captivating and complex characters than a fantasy movie.
Brutal!😱 I was hoping to hear that it was at least mediocre, not great but not as bad as some were saying it would be. Oh well, just reaffirms my decision to use Guardians Vol 3 as my exit of the MCU.🤷
Kristian Harloff was pretty brutal about it too. This is definitely a "Stay Away" for me and just wait for it to come out on Disney+, which I wouldn't be surprised if they get it next month.
Well this Nick fury was supposed to be prior to secret invasion. Because Captain marvel was supposed to come out before quantumania and secret invasion. So chronologically based on how it was supposed to come out. He's fine.
I've been a massive fan of the Marvel films from the beginning. Phase 4 was rough, especially Eternals, but I still watched all the movies at the cinema. Marvels is going to be the first film in the franchise I will not watch in theatres. Dan is absolutely right, the studio has destroyed my faith in the MCU.
I watched the teasers and trailer and thought "This looks half-assed, unfinished and boring." Its a parallel to the video game industry. Releasing shit they know isnt good way too early but not wanting to spend more money to fix it because they just want an easy cash grab. We are not stupid. We see through you.
To be honest, I hope Disney puts out more of these movies and shows as long as you talk about them to get an objective view and Mauler is making reviews about them to make my day.
No offense, but that’s maybe the worst reason for the MCU to continue. Not only because that Mauler guy’s reviews not very good or really that objective, but also because people like me would rather have MCU films and shows that are actually good again.
@@IsaacV24 So is your critic about Maulers reviews objectiv? It´s not very good? Ok, that´s an argument I think. I mean, I don´t say that he is the best reviewer ever, but someone who doesn´t focus on thinks like artificial diversity or politics but on things like writing, logic, characters, continuity - while explaining his thoughts in the most detail way possible - I mean, that´s quiet objectice I think. The effort alone, to make 3 reviess which are all 2+ hours long about only one movie... Yeah, that´s much too long for many, maybe far too serious, at the end we are talking about movies and not human rights, but he is not the kind of reviewer like the Drinker, who lives from his cynical and anarchic image, while saying the same hate-BS about Hollywood and politics. These reviewers seem to have opinions on movies without really watching them. Mauker does not belong to these guys, even if they do some content together. For me, the MCU till Endgame is a long enough movie series and I don´t have a problem, if there won´t be more. Sometimes a clear end is the best creative choice, everything else is only content, without any soul. I think they missed the opportunity after Endgame, to let the franchise have some fresh air. Wait a year or two. Make a new plan for a great arc of a new MCU phase.
I wanted this movieto be a sleeper hit, despite the warning signs. Mainly because I'd like to see more of Iman Vellani, she was surprisignly likeable in her series, and the trailers for this movie. I feel bad for her, being introduced to the MCU at this time.
Y'all remember The Avengers? The promise of a big climactic team-up? That was the 6th film. Age of Ultron? 11th film. Civil War? 13th film. Infinity War? 19th film. We are 22 projects into Phases 4 & 5. And there is no semblance of a cohesive plot or throughline. The most we have is, "There's a guy named Kang... maybe."

Based on that thumbnail, it’s so obvious Dan LOVED this movie, right? *RIGHT?* 😂
“Unmitigated disaster”
@@LordApophis100 🤣🤣
I’m guessing he didn’t like it?
The thumbnail is all I needed to see haha
He needs to stop this in his thumbnails, it's like, he doesn't like it, I don't need to click on his video
That might be the most animated I've seen Murrell over a cape flick since BvS. Totally agree with him 100% about the MCU.
Owwww I really liked BvS
Dan calling this an "unmitigated disaster" is crazy lol! Because usually when he dislikes a movie, he'll sort of soften the blow in his reviews to not hurt too many feelings, but here he didn't hesitate to call it trash lol.
Gotta say there is something pretty entertaining about seeing Dan rip into a movie
It's called honesty and not being a corporate shill.
@@GeneralJLCit's called his opinion. Calm down.
Your analogy of a symphony versus cacophony is so perfect. Yes! You can have multiple tones in your movie as long as they’re balanced effectively, but when they aren’t, it’s disastrous.
Yeah, that was an outstanding analogy. A perfect way of describing something that can actually be quite hard to articulate!
As an audiophile, I loved that, too 🥰
Everything everywhere all at once is the perfect example of handling multiple tones right. That was a masterpiece.
Wow, I expected it to be bad. But not this bad.
Dan is one of the few film reviewers I trust. Even films that are terrible, like Moonfall, he's able to see it both as a critic and as a film fan. So hearing him flat out say "this movie is unwatchable and unworkable in it's current condition", holy crap this movie is a dumpster fire.
I loved Moonfall. lol It was a 90s disaster flick with an alien blend.
Saw it last night. Didn’t think it was anywhere near as bad as Dan forecasted on this one. Not amazing. But no where near “unwatchable” to me
Are you a 14 year old girl? The incoherency in the film can only be appreciated by that demographic.
@@arthurmelander6224 attempting to unnecessarily hurl insults…which is what YOU just did…is what 14 year olds do..no? lol...Shows me already that the moment someone has an opinion that differs from your own, you lash out and need to try to defend yourself...for absolutely no reason.
Please explain what you found incoherent about the film.
To be honest I really thought you were a 14 year old girl, because those are the only ones I know that don't realize how bad this movie really is.@@jmclane27
Didn't think my expectations for this movie could get worst. Damn
Dan and Jeremy were not just on board, they were sitting next to each other in the metaphorical trainwreck that is "The Marvels."
I think the "mystery" of why there was a review embargo, has...been...solved.
Im almost starting to believe that they are purposely ruining the Marvel brand
Which is crazy because WB already did most of the work for them with the DCEU.
2 things happened -
1) Quantity over quality - It's not like MCU in IS never had bad movies.
If Dan talking about it like this, I know it's serious 😭
Especially when it comes to a Marvel movie lol
Aw that’s so sad. A lot of talented people’s energy and time went into this film and it really sounds like the studio let them down
230 Million.....I can only imagine what they could have done if they allocated that budget better. that could have made at least 3 decent films.....
Nah not really
Using the word talented very loosely
It was clearly a group effort. You can't just give credit to one person
I missed the part where that's my problem.
I feel like Marvel haven't been too bothered about keeping personalities / writing in line between television shows and movies after the whole Wandavision / Multiverse Of Madness thing happened, but glad to see that hasn't stopped them doing it again.
They way they treated Wanda's character in MoM still leaves me cold. Not a great film.
How nice of Dan to let people know that they can leave right after the mid-credit scene. Hahaha
I take it with a grain of salt. Sometimes they remove the second scene for early screenings
Lol I think Dan was actually saying people can leave before the movie even starts
And I'm 90% sure thats what happened b/c i also heard report that there are both mid and post credits @@Pedrg93

Agreed! Dan is the man!
Marvel is the new DC and DC is the same DC.
Thank god for The Boys and invincible
DC at least has the freedom to start fresh. The MCU is so big they will want to try to stay in it as long as possible
Man. The biggest tragedy of the state of the mcu is that shang chi honestly could've been a solid trilogy but its been completely lost in the noise.

Sheesh Dan really went in here. I respect the honesty. As a DC fan i hope i can get a successful 10 year plan like Marvel had.
I feel like Kevin Feige at this point is just the equivalent of that meme with the dog in a flaming room going “this is fine”.
What Dan says here about the process making this film and the end result makes me think of the Simpsons episode with the car made for Homer.
When I saw the trailer, I was afraid this was the kind of movie this would be. Thanks for the honest review.
I have heard this movie is a fusion of light, color and sound, it also has moving picture with different sounds perfectly synced to the said images, and these images would change frequently as well at a rate of 30 times every second. Truly a technological marvel.
When Dan says unmitigated you know he means business

As a simpleton… I loved it
When Dan said he was pretty energetic about this film I felt a glimmer of hope it might be good, but then... Yikes! 😭😭😭
Etc
There was a pattern and a plan.
Wow. Dan’s reviews are on another level and should be required viewing for all studio heads.
He just NOW realized that the MCU has been in a tailspin since Endgame?
@@StreetPreacherrno he clearly stated that he’s suspected this for a long time.
Rough times roght now for Marvel.
bc Disney is run by activists now , but Gunn still has an authentic vision
I love how the rebuttal is, "its not THAT terrible, its actually kinda fun sometimes!"
Wow what glowing praise 😂
Thank you so much for doing a review without showing the movie's trailer on a headache-inducing super fast loop.
As a fan who used to be a fan of the MCU ( Last one I watched was Guardians), I was incredibly skeptical about Marvels because the review embargo date and the trailers. Although I wish I could remain optimistic it was difficult for me not to predict this outcome
Im already noticing that the major outlets are praising it (so far), but the reviewers I trust (like you) are seeing it very differently…
(Also…first comment…yes!)
I'm a big fan of Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel in that show and I think she really deserves a great movie, so this is really disappointing.
I loved the movie myself. Always good to see what the reviews are like but leave them at the door and judge for yourself.
She's great in the show and the movie. I can understand mixed reviews towards the movie, but I enjoyed it a lot, you should judge it for yourself
its a bit hyperbolic to say that this was un-releaseable. Quantumania was far worse.
It’s a bit like Marvel is trying to climb out of a hole dug in sand at the moment
They definitely have there work cut out for them. The next 5 movies have to be nearly perfect for the public reception to change. This is coming from someone who still loves the mcu
They need to make some big changes if they want to make a watchable movie.
I always go to the theaters to see them too. But this will be the first time I dont go.
There’s not going to be a next project after this disaster
I kind of hoped this might be better than I feared it would be.
The tides have finally turned. The strategy of Disney gaslighting any criticism as racist no longer works.
This is so sad, all the actresses needed this to be a win.😢

Disney needs to watch Top Gun: Maverick to learn what a successful movie looks like.
The problem with this movie is the fact that they failed in every aspect that makes a good movie
- no emotions
( What makes a good movie is how you make the audience have emotional investment )
- no good character chemistry
- weaker villain than hero
- no stakes in this movie
( there is no big difference between before and after the movie )

I wanna preface this by saying I always respect Dan's opinion and professionalism 100%, however having seen the film just today, "unmitigated disaster" is way too harsh a term in my opinion, it most definitely is nowhere near on the level of some of my favorites like No Way Home, Civil War, Endgame & the Guardians Trilogy, but it is absolutely nowhere near the bottom of the barrel of my least favorites like The Dark World & Iron Man 2, "unmitigated disaster" to me makes it sound like Elektra/Ghost Rider/X-Men Origins: Wolverine levels of bad which I don't think it is
If Dan who is usually forgiving of bad movies did not like it I think I'm gonna have a bad time with this too
Man...he tore this to pieces, lol. Thanks for a truely honest review
The stories of the major Elden Ring bosses are so good they could each have their own movie.
Well, no shit, video games are 30+ hours long and movies are 2…
Brutal!😱 I was hoping to hear that it was at least mediocre, not great but not as bad as some were saying it would be. Oh well, just reaffirms my decision to use Guardians Vol 3 as my exit of the MCU.🤷
By French terminology, it is mediocre loll
Kristian Harloff was pretty brutal about it too. This is definitely a "Stay Away" for me and just wait for it to come out on Disney+, which I wouldn't be surprised if they get it next month.
The film will tank in theaters, so it will be dumped quickly for sure
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Dan. Marvel has a lot to work on.
I loved the movie. I might be biased i love brie larson. I enjoyed the movie just fine was fun. Xmen post credits scene was amazing
Well this Nick fury was supposed to be prior to secret invasion. Because Captain marvel was supposed to come out before quantumania and secret invasion. So chronologically based on how it was supposed to come out. He's fine.
At best I expected mediocre mild entertainment, or a Marvel movie in short. But I certainly did not expect it to be this bad.
Darn it. I was hoping they were going to make a proper movie. Such good actors and interesting characters.
which interesting characters? Dan himself said Captain Marvel was under developped.
If your director is so incompentant they have to be supervised by the CEO, fire the director and never hire them again.
This is absolutely my favorite review of yours. Brutally honest, insightful, and hilarious. Thank you for confirming what we’ve all been thinking.
I wanted this movieto be a sleeper hit, despite the warning signs. Mainly because I'd like to see more of Iman Vellani, she was surprisignly likeable in her series, and the trailers for this movie. I feel bad for her, being introduced to the MCU at this time.
I kinda feel bad for all the 'new' actors entering the MCU, now that it is in such steep decline.
The most we have is, "There's a guy named Kang... maybe."
The studio wanted ppl to understand why they buried Cat Woman.
