Started going to the Compleat Strategist when it opened in the late 70’s. I used to commute in and out of Penn Station so it was a regular stop for me. Still go by when I’m in NYC. Like one of your other commenters, I now live about 25 minutes from the PA store so I can still shop for games in person.
Was in NYC a few weeks back and wanted to pop in....wife rolled her eyes, and that was the end of that. Fortunately, I live 15 minutes from the PA store!
Wow... that store is no joke. Thanks for sharing! And dat fisheye lens tho. I suppose one could watch this with a 3D headset to get the real virtual tour.
Surreal to see my game "Storm of Steel: Ju-87 Stuka" on the Compleat Strategist, didn't see "Third Option" but may have been somewhere on the DVG area. Thanks for posting. Everytime I go to NYC my routine is the Compleat Strategist and then Peter Luger.
Glad to be of service. If you ever want me to cover some of your games, just let me know. While there, I spent most of my time wargame section checking out your titles.
Kilroy, are you in the tri-state area? I used to live on 50th and 11th in NYC a few years back, but now I'm in Albany. Let me know if you're ever upstate! Let's roll some dice!
Wow, it looks soo cramp though. Our table top gaming store has a ton if room with tables and a cafe but I don't think it comes close to the stock of your spot.
It’s more of a disappointment when I visited the shop more than a decade ago. It was more of a RPG store than wargame one. The staff was not particularly friendly either. I wonder how it survived all through these years on the 33rd street.
On my first visit (early 80s), it was primarily wargames; however, it has become a full service game store with RPG, minis, board games (hobby, strategy, abstract, family, etc.) and still a very heathy offering of wargames - you see it all in the video.
Did you purchase any games during this visit to 'The Compleat Strategist'? How do prices at this retail outlet compare with those at 'Noble Knight' or direct purchase from the various game publishing companies?
Only bought some MTG packs, which were a bargain, as TCS does not raise prices on packs even as they age. As for board/war game prices they were expectedly the same as any FLGS, in other words “retail pricing”; however there were some interesting titles in the 50% section (except slim to no wargames present).

Started shopping there in the early 80's. Haven't been in 10 years. Love that place!

I believe it opened in 1975-76… I have been visiting (whenever in town and have time) since the early ‘80s
I visited that store a bunch before I moved out of NYC in 2014. I can smell it just watching the video.

Awesome store and excellent walkthru, thanks.
From floor to ceiling ... wow!

Great video. I love it 👍👍👍👍
Wow what a place! Great coverage too. So good I could see they had no The Historical Game Company games 😮
Something needs to be done about that …
@@KWHgames Ha, ha. Yes sir!
Was going to go uptown to see my games on display and you saved me the trip 5 minutes in :)

Oh absolutely! I'll figure out how to get in touch :)

How many wargamer lives has this store impacted over the years? :)

The complete vacation, wonderful, can it get any better ? 🎲
Not discounted like Noble Knight. They sell games at the list price.
