- Google Chrome came out with the ability to add Tab Groups in April 2021. I know, I made a video on how to use Tab Groups. What was missing was the ability to Save the Tab Groups. You can now save Tab Groups if you turn on Chrome Flags. Chrome Flags are new or experimental features. This tells me soon Saved Tab Groups will be part of the Chrome browser. What are Tab Groups? Tabs in Chrome that are related. For example, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Hilton, and Marriott may be grouped together under the Travel Group. Think of Tab Groups as Folders in File Explorer. Groups can be collapsed and expanded. They can be Saved, the new feature. Tab Groups that are saved will appear when Chrome is closed and re-opened. You need to Enable Tab Group Save in Flags.
How to enable Chrome flags?
Open Chrome and copy and paste this into the address bar chrome://flags

Thank you so much for sharing this information. As a teacher, this will make life much easier so I don't have to set up groups at the beginning of each day.
Very helpful for cleaning up reused tab groups (and freeing up memory) when not in use. Thank you!
This was exactly what I was looking for . Thank you 👍🏽
Amazing! Thank you! Your vid has saved me so many frustrating times trying to keep my work organsied.
Thank you, I followed along and love this feature.
Thanks, Wendy. I'm with you. For me, it is a game changer.
In the past i saved a bunch of crap as bookmarks using bookmark folders for organization. I can see many uses for this but also still using the older bookmark system as well.
Legend!! Thanks for posting!
Thank you, this is perfect! Subscribed!
Thanks for the sub!
Well demonstrated!
Awesome! Thank you!
Lol only 15 tabs open that would be a dream for me. Right now I'm working with 50 or more.
Thank you!!
Thanks, Chris!
You bet!
Great vid. Been looking for this feature for a while. Wasn’t aware it was available. Every time you add a new tab to a group do you have to toggle the Save Group switch on and off in order to save it. Or does it save all new tabs automatically as long as the Save Group switch in toggled on?
Thank you so much.❤
you are welcome.
Thank you for the update! I saw your original video with the workaround. Quick question: do you know if saving tab groups will work on Chrome for mobile platforms?
Thank you so much!!!!
Glad it helped!
Thankyou so much 😊
You are so welcome!
What I am looking for is to be able to export the saved tab groups so that I can import all of the groups and tabs within those groups to another computer. This info has to be saved with chrome and just needs to be exported.. Any ideas how to do this?
Safari has had Group Tabs for a while. What I especially like about Safari it allows the Tab Groups to appear vertically without cluttering up the horizontal tabs along the top that with time, and too many tabs opened, compress too small. Plus, with the vertical list, it allows me to focus on one tab group and be less distracting. Thoughts?
Thanks for letting users know about Safari. Where I work full time, we are on Windows. So Safari isn't an option for me. It is good to know that it does the vertical tabs! Thanks, Christopher.
Apparently there’s an extension called “Vertical Tabs” for Chrome which does just this
It Doesn't save the groups on my MAC 2021. I tried to update Chrome but the problem is still here :/
Thanks for the video. I went looking for the Save Group option and didn't find it in v, 111. Discovered that tab groups are automatically saved, which makes complete sense but is confusing because the toggle switch is no longer needed. Tab groups won't go away unless you ungroup them.
Can you please help me with tabs? I don't like to use them. I like the old fashioned multiple windows open at the bottom of the Windows screen. Since the update 117.0.5938.63 every time I click a link or shortcut it opens up a new tab on the window I'm in. I've searched everywhere and can't see where to stop it. Thanks in advance.
By any chance do you know how to change the title of the tab (not the group tab title) in chrome?
I am adding group for a lot of things but I can't browse the list as the list has grown big but I can't see all of them
Can you open this tab group on another device if you're signed in there
One downside with save tabs groups is that the position of youtube video is not remembered, the videos will restart from beginning.
My tab groups are gone after having to clear my cache, and having the “start from where I left off” setting on made no difference. This makes tab groups useless.
Hum, however workona seams to be more useful, when u open another group instead of switch context it simply pushes the groups tabs in the front of the other one
One year later, no such option.
It works still.
Still far beyond Vivaldi's tab stacking.
Pretty much does the same thing if you use the setting “start from where I left off”
The average user has over 15 tabs open, lol. I'm sitting here with 622 open tabs across 4 windows. I think I have a problem...
1.5 Playtime. This guy is talking to slow for me.
