Here's my full write-up for this video in Blog Post format with screenshots, if you'd like to use it for training or to share with colleagues: sethideclercq.com/2023/10/save-tab-group-feature/
OH MY GOOD LORD!! iFinally, a writeup where I don't need to sit through a full 6-minute video on double speed just to get the information I need. What year is it? 2005? I'm SOOOOOO HAPPY about this! And yes, no sarcasm whatsoever, this is the way. I hate the current video culture where everything is buried in long videos. - if you ever by any chance find a way to open multiple chrom windows on fixed positions in windows 11 please let me know" ;)
I have searched on how to use the Chrome tab group feature and you are the only one I have found that really explained this feature well. Thank you for the great video.
I've been using Tab Groups for a while now and it has been a game changer. I have been reluctant to use the Save Tab Group feature because I have my Bookmarks Bar filled with folders of frequently used hyperlinks. When saving a group tab, it takes up horizontal real estate in the Bookmarks Bar. HOWEVER! I just discovered that you can Unpin the saved tab group from the Bookmarks Bar and still preserve the saved tab group in the special folder in the bookmarks bar (it looks like an icon with 4 small square boxes). Now I think I can fully take advantage of the saved tab groups feature without impeding on my Bookmarks Bar real estate. The thing I love most about Saving the tab group is that while it is in a saved state, you can add new tabs to the tab group and the new tabs will be included in the saved area. Game changer!! Thanks for the video! I definitely learned something new!
I came to this video because, I received a Google notification about the Tab Groups feature. Apparently it has been around a while, but I only learned about it with yesterday's notification. As the first interation of the Tab Group for me, the Save Group button was already available by default. I kept trying to use it, but my groups would not show up as saved on my bookmarks bar. This video and a couple of others cleared up for me why. Thanks! After watching this video, and noticing that the title is Flipped Classroom Tutorials, I immediatly suscribed, as the trainer is well articulated and I am certain that I will find a wealth of valuable videos to assist me with administrating my college classes and multifacted life. Thanks much!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment and sharing your use case and experience with us. Welcome to the community, and I hope you find many more helpful videos.
There's also the option to "hide group" once you've toggled the "save group" switch. I believe that "hide group" option simply closes all tabs in that group and saves the group in the bookmarks for later use, in case you don't want to close your entire browser.
Oh, this is such a great find for me! I was about to search chrome extension for tab managers, good thing I looked first in UA-cam! This is just what I am looking for💘 You earned a new sub.
I haven't used this before, I'll see if it keeps the same save groups in the bookmarks bar to use after I shutdown and open my computer. It seems pretty effective and helpful for organizing groups of tabs with given notes to it. Thanks, just started using this. It might really help organize my current 7 webpages of tasks, hence why I just searched for 'how to create google folders'.
I used to have multiple windows of Chrome open, each with numerous tabs. My girlfriend would go dizzy every time she saw them all, asking me "How? Dear god, how?!" "I have all my shopping where I left off on it. I have all my gaming guides to everything I'm currently playing. I have all my news sites. I have my financials and adulting tabs in their window. And then I have all the video tabs like Crunchyroll, UA-cam, and associated tabs with them." Well, now I can have JUST what I want open at the time, don't need to fret about closing anything and loosing where I was at! Freed up my 64GB of DDR4-4000 memory! Thank you!
At last, Chrome Tabs (following Google's recent update) clearly explained. Pre-update, it was a nightmare and the Flags/Save option could not be 'undone'. Many thanks (sub'd).👏
Excellent video, thank you for sharing. Exactly what I was looking for. Quick question sir: When a Tab group is saved and closed, will it still drain my computer's resources as if they were still open? Thank you
03:14 Tab group save does not exist as a selection but 2 variations of that. I have enabled them both and relauched. Unfortunately gives me no :save group"option. Chrome version is Version 131.0.6778.205
AWESOME, Game Changing video @FlippedClassroomTutorials - THANK YOU! But I had the same challenge as @fnc569, @fotiostriantas4673, @raymondlipin7330 and others: there was no “Save as a Group” option post-relaunching the Chrome browser for me either (I'm on an iMac). Perhaps things have changed? I followed all the steps but when I went to enable the “Tab Groups Save" feature in Chrome://flags there were two options: Tab Groups Save and Sync V2 - Enables saving and recalling of tab groups but enhanced. Highly experimental. - Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, Lacros #tab-groups-save-v2 and Tab Groups Save UI Update - Enables saved tab group pinning, everything menu and bookmarks bar change - Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, Lacros #tab-groups-save-ui-update Should we select both? Or only one? I enabled both and there is no “Save as a Group” option. I’ll mess around with it and report back if I figure it out. Appreciate it if others did the same! ;-) Thanks again!
This was Great! Will definitely be using this moving forward. I tripped across this video because I was trying to find out how to reopen a closed tab without having to hit multiple keys simultaneously. Within Firefox it's integrated into their dropdown menu and I was hoping that Chrome had that exact same thing. Would you know of a way to streamline this function?? #THANX
This is an awesome video - very concise and easy to follow. However, when right-clicking on tabs, I don't have the option to save to a group, and I cannot find anywhere in my settings how to activate that option if I do have it. I am using Windows 10. Thank You
If you cannot find the option you have to first enable it in the Chrome flags. As shown at the start of the video navigate to chrome://flags and search for save tab grouos. Enable it there :-) then restart the browser and you should be good to go
Thank you very much! Once a group has been opened in the browser, can one drop it down again to the bookmarks bar? I set my browser to open all previous tabs so i cant close & re-open it again in order to get it to drop below again.
This is great. I was wondering if there is a way to have new tab pages automatically fall into the saved group tabs for organisational purposes? For example if I were to open a new sheet it would automatically fall into the sheet tab created.
Thanks! The 'saved tab groups' appear within the bookmarks bar, but not in the bookmarks manager. Is there some other place they appear? I'd like to copy the full contents (including the full URLs of each tab in the groups) and save them outside of the browser.
Hi! I saved many of these tabs, but when I turned on the computer, I could reopen the most recent tabs but not those saved in groups. It seems like I manually closed them, but I didn't. Do you have any advice to rescue them?
I have a problem. I've added several tab groups as you instructed. I have to click on a Chevron (>>) to see all of them. The problem is that there are so many tab groups that I cannot see them at the bottom of the screen. Please help. Thank you.
Haha, maybe Mark McKinney and I are just covering all genres together-one video at a time! If you see me crushing heads or managing a superstore next, you’ll know why!
Save Group seems now enabled by default (without notice). I just googled if the "save" means "in profile", because on my last re-install all groups were gone.
I wondeer why not have this feature available by default. Does it crash or slow down the browser? Did not even know that flags existed. Thanks for the video.
The default is rolling out soon. Google often keeps things in flags for a long time, and some things are never leaving flags as they are very niche and disctract everyday users. Some features can be unstable, but I've not had any issues at all with the flags I use.
thanks for your videos , i have a question , i have two laptop and my chrome is sync, i did group in one of them but in another one didn't show, and i did chrome ://flags in two laptop but didn't work , can you suggest a solution
I noticed when I saved the tabs it didn't re-appear at the bottom, it was saved to the top, then I had to save again for it to be saved. Is that the way it works. Do you have to keep saving? ...what am I doing wrong? ...
I have so many tabs and when opening the pop up, some groups don't show up because they are hidden. I have to change the Windows scale to 100% but is so uncovenient. Is there any other way.

Is there a way to make the 'saved group tab' section on the bookmark bar wider? To have more group tabs without having to click on the dropdown menu.

Is there. Way to open them in another browser (laptop rather than my desktop) etc does it save across devices if I sync ?
Absolutely! I use it across Chromebook, Two Windows laptops and a Mac when signed into Chrome.
It is not showing up on my other machines even though I am signed in to the same Chrome account. any ideas why?@@FlippedClassroomTutorials
Save Group seems now enabled by default (without notice).

thank you so much!

So this means I need to move back to chrome from Edge :) Or this is available in edge as well and I could not find it ....
Not at all, as they are now also available in edge: www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/features/tab-groups?form=MA13FJ
@@FlippedClassroomTutorials Yes, but still unable to save them or bookmark them like we can do in Chrome.
Correct. As Edge is based on the save chromium engine, it's only a matter of time. Hopefully, sooner rather than later
thanks for your videos , i have a question , i have two laptop and my chrome is sync, i did group in one of them but in another one didn't show, and i did chrome ://flags in two laptop but didn't work , can you suggest a solution
I use an ext that kill tab after x minutes if not pinned
can I auto pin tab added to tab group to avoid loosing them
Can I make the tab groups up-down instead of opening in series?
I do it like this... Make new Map in your Bookmark bar and drag the URL's in there that you want to group
I noticed when I saved the tabs it didn't re-appear at the bottom, it was saved to the top, then I had to save again for it to be saved. Is that the way it works. Do you have to keep saving? ...what am I doing wrong? ...
