வேந்தன் என்ற சொல் முதலில் முருகரை குறித்து பின் மன்னர்களையும் பொதுவாக குறித்தது.
பாலன் என்ற சொல்லும் முருகனை தான் குறிக்கும். பாலமுருகன் என்று அழைப்பதுண்டு. அதனால் பாலாஜி என்பதும் முருகனைத் தான் குறிக்கும்.
அருணகிரிநாதர் திருப்பதியில் இருப்பது முருகன் என்பதை அறிந்து வேந்த குமரா குகசேந்தமயூர வடவேங்கட மாமலையில் உறையோனே என்று பாடியுள்ளார்.
நம் தமிழ் நாட்டில் வேங்கடசுப்பிரமணியன் என்ற பெயரை மிக சாதாரணமாக காணலாம்,
ஆக முருகன் கோயிலாக இருந்திருக்க வாய்ப்புண்டு. அதற்கு முன்பாக அது பௌத்த விகாரமாக இருந்திருக்கவும் வாய்ப்புண்டு. மொட்டை போடும் வழக்கம் பௌத்தத்திலிருந்து பிற சமயங்களுக்கு சென்றது. பௌத்தம் மருவிய காலத்தில் இந்த முருகன் கோயிலை வைணவக் கோயிலாக மாற்றியது (காலம் 11ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு) ராமானுஜர்.

Context in which Jain Ramayana was written:
New Religions: Budhdhism and Jainism, developed in the East, stressed the use of Pali, Magadh and Ardhmagadh (collectively we mention as Prakrit).
With the dominance of Maurya Empire, these religions put Kshatriyas dominance over Brahmins.
Ardhmagadh is considered as the superior langauge than Sanskrit.
Revolt: The spread of the new religions, set the revolt through out the country in 3rd century. The endownments to temples were stopped and the Brahmins were excuted.
Prakrit was made compulsary as Court language. The literary work in classic languages Tamil and Sanskrit come standstill.
Especailly in South, Satavahana (Andhra) Empire become prominant.Pallavas were feaudatories to Satavahanas initially.
In order to show superiority of Prakrit over Sanskrit, it is written. I have briefed the Jain Ramayan separately.

Jain Ramayana:
Jain Ramayana is Jain version of story of Ram-Seeta-Laxman and Raavan. There is a mention of Lord Ram enlightened by 20th Tirthankar Shri Munisuvrat Swami.
Ram possessed a title of Baldev and Laxman was a Vasudev (ruler of 3 continents). According to Jain scriptures, Baldev is always an elder half- brother of a Vasudev and both of them have great emotional bonding. Also, it always happens that a Vasudev dies first. Then Baldev carries his dead body for six months because he cannot believe that his brother is dead. Then some devtaa or pious person explain Baldev the uncertainty of life and convince him to perform last rites of dead younger brother.
According to Jain Ramayan, after killing Raavan, Laxman ruled 3 continents including Ayodhya. One day, in a celestial conference, Shakendra (an Indra) praised Laxman’s love for Ram. One devtaa felt like testing that fact. While Laxman was in his room, the devtaa started shouting outside his room ‘Haay Raam…..Haay Raam…’ as if some women were crying on Ram’s death. Upon hearing these cries, Laxman thought his brother was dead. He went into deep shock, got a massive heart attack and died.
When Ram received the news of Laxman’s death, he fainted. After gaining consciousness, he refused to believe that his brother was dead. He carried Laxman’s dead body on his shoulder and didn’t allow to perform last rites. Everyday he would give bath to Laxman’s body, change his clothes and would try to feed him. In short, he believed that Laxman was just in coma and will return to him one day. After six months, Jataayu and Krutaant-vadan Saarathi’s souls who were now devtaas, convinced Ram that Laxman was dead and will never return. Finally, Ram performed Laxaman’s last rites. After spending some time in grief, he along with 16000 other kings took deeksha under guidance of 20th tirthankar Shri Munisuvrat Swami.
Ram learned various scriptures and did tapasyaa (penance) for eight years. After that he started roaming alone . On the twelfth bright lunar day of Maagh month, he reached Koti Sheela and sat for meditation under blazing sun. Seeta’s soul, who was now a devtaa, saw him. Feeling attracted by Ram, she tried to distract him by performing various dances. But Ram didn’t open his eyes. During meditation his soul reached shukla dhyaan (the purest state of mind) and he got keval gyaan (became omniscient). Seeta’s soul then asked for forgiveness for disturbing him in his penance. But Ram said she rather helped him in reaching this highest state. He also told Seeta about her and others’ future.
Ram stayed in Kevali paryaay (omniscient state) for 25 years, preached and finally attained moksha. He had a life span of 15000 years.

Shramanic Religions: There are various classifications:
Some say 6, based on Philosophy and contemporaneous ascetics of Mahavira.
Some include 84 Siddhas from Nath Tradition, (which includes 18 Tamil Siddhas) and making it 90.
In six who are contemporaneous to Vardhman Mahavira are:
1.Buddha is a mystic who taught as void.(Buddhism)
2.Mahavir is a mystic chemist who taught as restraint. (Jainism)
3.Makkali Gosala is a mystic alchemist(metallurgist ) who taught as fatalism.(Ajivika)
4.Purana Kassappa is an ascetic who taught as non action(Akiriyavada)
5.Ajita Kesakamabali is an ascetic who advised as to live happily (Charvaka)
6.Sanjaya Belathiputta taught as suspension of judgement (Ajnana)
There were several mystics (over 84 Maha Siddhas) in our holy land before and after Buddha, Mahavira, Gosalas, Kassappas, Shits and Sanjayas. These mystics contributed much in philosophy, medicine, metullergy and performed miracles.
Some worshipped Shiv, some Sakthi, some Murugan.After Buddhism and Jainism, some created the left hand sects within Buddhism and Jainism
