My mother was a McNeil (her father Henry Dunham McNeil). My father, born in Belfast, a Lindsay, and my paternal Grandmother a Clark….plenty of Scottish heritage in our family tree. I am a retired Colonel and proud American, also a blue water sailor whose bucket list includes sailing to Barra and Castle Kismuil. This video is a treasure for my family and all McNeil clan members around the world. Thank you Chief McNeil for this priceless gift. “Victory or death!”
Cool. I am not related to the MacNeils, ha ha. BUT, I do like reading about them. Also my good friend Jeff is a MacNeil. Funny, his last name is Growel, but it was changed from MacGrail to Growel when his family were mercenaries in Germany. Also, I'd love to visit New Zealand sometime!
wow, I just came across the McNeil link my family may have to this castle and lands. We're in the US, my grandmother's father was from Scotland but wound up in Prince Edward Island, James McNeil.
Nope, McNeill is Scottish not Irish. They have roots in Ireland but thats way back in the Dal Riata period. My grandfather was born on Barra during the second World War. He moved to Wellington. New Zealand in the late 60s he met and married my grandmother and so on and so forth. He's passed away now, hope to take his ashes back to Barra one day though. Would love to visit the U.K
@ctgaming2938......lol,do you actually believe that naill o the nine hostages. do not associate that mythical niall o the nine hostages with scotland. type in .......macneil clan shocked as dna checks force re-write of history.........then......origins macneill and beyond by jeff macneill......one american who actually has scraped away the irish veneer. the macneills are of scandinavian origins. niall o the nine hostages a mythical tale most likely written in the 1400s.
The voices of the dead and the future at the end are chilling. 1969 was the height of the Cold War; I assume that's what they alluded to. I know Barra has a Gaelic-speaking community, a distinct history, and culture made up of Celtic, Scottish, and Norse heritages, and is predominantly Roman Catholic, but it strongly reminds me of the fictional island in the 1973 film "The Wicker Man." The islanders in the movie are musical, isolated, and insular, with a mixture of Celtic and Norse pagan practices.
Cool. I don't have any MacNeil connections, myself. But one of my best friends is a MacGrail/MacNeil. I also uploaded two other MacNeil videos on my channel a few days ago. I think you'll like them.
I James my great grandma was also a McNeill from barra . She sailed down the coast to pilling in Lancashire were she met my great grandad frank carr.she passed away in the mid 1950,s .take care john carr.
I am one also - we dropped the mac in a legal sense, on emigration to America. When the walls fall, the end of the world shall come. May it never be so. Slainte mhath.
My Father used to have this vhs but lost it. It's nice to see our Clans Heritage back online once again.

I learned recently I am a descendant of the Clan Macneill of Gigha. Really awesome to track down my heritage to Niall of the Nine.

My great grandma was a macneill so that makes my family is pretty close to the bloodline. My aunt has been over to scottland to see the castle
