Andrea - my sweet wife for 45+ years passed away this past March due to a rare cancer. She was the strongest Christian woman I ever knew and she was also the bravest as she faced her eternity...…. she received her healing "home, in heaven" as the Lord walked her through that valley of the shadow. My heart aches as I miss her but knowing she has finished her race and is without pain and is in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus, gives me a peace that is without understanding! This song got me through basic training recently. Basic training was tough, and it broke me. Some said it was easy, personally I didn’t find it easy in the slightest because it’s more mental than anything. Sure the pt is difficult at first, but then it becomes easier. If your soul and mentality are strengthened and protected by prayer from God, then each day there will not get better. I wanted to quit badly because of my knee, it went out 4 times within two weeks. I remember praying and bawling my eyes out and just singing christian songs to myself because they were all I had left. I remember at the time I thought God was telling me that it wasn’t the path for me. But I realized, after we got back from our second field exercise and I went to church, that it was the path for me, and God allowed me to be broken and crushed, so he could build me back up and form a closer relationship with me. I had always considered myself a Christian and everything, but never really felt too impacted, especially with everything going on and just turning 19. God is real. The devil is real. Hope is real. Faith is real. Jesus saved us and Jesus impacts us every day, it’s just a matter of opening your eyes and seeing it. Just like how we need water to stay hydrated, your soul needs prayer to stay hydrated and protected. Every ruck march, everywhere we’d March, and yes even in the shower, this song was always in my head. Some songs get irritating and once they’re stuck in your head for a while, they get old and boring. I listened to this song a lot before I left. I left for basic training June 30th 2020. I graduated September 10th 2020, and this is still my favorite song and I don’t think I will ever get tired of it or lose interest because I have such an emotional connection to it. One morning when we just got breakfast and sat down, someone saw me pray and asked me “Brendan why do you pray” and my response was “because not everyone has the privilege of waking up in the morning. There’s no guarantee we’ll wake up” I have been listening to Christian music my whole life, such as newsboys, third day, tenth Avenue north, mikeschair, Steven Curtis Chapman, mercyme, Aaron shust, and a song I heard for the first time that is one of the most amazing and touching songs is you raise me up by josh Groban, the chaplain (military priest) played it during church, and just like almost home, it helped reform my heart. This is the story of how I survived basic training, and how God has completely impacted me. There may not be any “science” to prove it, but that’s what faith is for. I don’t need any science to tell me what I felt, because what I felt wasn’t science, it was Jesus holding out his hand to help me. May God bless you and please know that you are loved. Even when it doesn’t feel like it. I understand I feel that way a lot here, this place is really tough and life has been miserable but I’ve been trying to hang on to hope. You will always be loved and make sure to pray and thank God for every blessing he bestows in every day. Andrea - my sweet wife for 45+ years passed away this past March due to a rare cancer. She was the strongest Christian woman I ever knew and she was also the bravest as she faced her eternity...…. she received her healing "home, in heaven" as the Lord walked her through that valley of the shadow. Three years ago when my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer, I struggled to understand. I went to the store and on my way home, Even If came on the radio. This song got me through basic training recently. Basic training was tough, and it broke me. Some said it was easy, personally I didn’t find it easy in the slightest because it’s more mental than anything. Sure the pt is difficult at first, but then it becomes easier. If your soul and mentality are strengthened and protected by prayer from God, then each day there will not get better. I wanted to quit badly because of my knee, it went out 4 times within two weeks. I remember praying and bawling my eyes out and just singing christian songs to myself because they were all I had left. I remember at the time I thought God was telling me that it wasn’t the path for me. But I realized, after we got back from our second field exercise and I went to church, that it was the path for me, and God allowed me to be broken and crushed, so he could build me back up and form a closer relationship with me. I had always considered myself a Christian and everything, but never really felt too impacted, especially with everything going on and just turning 19. God is real. The devil is real. Hope is real. Faith is real. Jesus saved us and Jesus impacts us every day, it’s just a matter of opening your eyes and seeing it. Just like how we need water to stay hydrated, your soul needs prayer to stay hydrated and protected. Every ruck march, everywhere we’d March, and yes even in the shower, this song was always in my head. Some songs get irritating and once they’re stuck in your head for a while, they get old and boring. I listened to this song a lot before I left. I left for basic training June 30th 2020. I graduated September 10th 2020, and this is still my favorite song and I don’t think I will ever get tired of it or lose interest because I have such an emotional connection to it. One morning when we just got breakfast and sat down, someone saw me pray and asked me “Brendan why do you pray” and my response was “because not everyone has the privilege of waking up in the morning. There’s no guarantee we’ll wake up” I have been listening to Christian music my whole life, such as newsboys, third day, tenth Avenue north, mikeschair, Steven Curtis Chapman, mercyme, Aaron shust, and a song I heard for the first time that is one of the most amazing and touching songs is you raise me up by josh Groban, the chaplain (military priest) played it during church, and just like almost home, it helped reform my heart. This is the story of how I survived basic training, and how God has completely impacted me. There may not be any “science” to prove it, but that’s what faith is for. I don’t need any science to tell me what I felt, because what I felt wasn’t science, it was Jesus holding out his hand to help me. May God bless you and please know that you are loved. Even when it doesn’t feel like it. I understand I feel that way a lot here, this place is really tough and life has been miserable but I’ve been trying to hang on to hope. You will always be loved and make sure to pray and thank God for every blessing he bestows in every day. If you are going through something tough, pray, you may not get an answer right now, but that’s better than not getting one at all. May God bless you
