With a High-Tech Planted Tank comes the need for CO2! But how does it work? Why would you need it? Thomas explains the basics of CO2 and shows us what he's using for his setup!

a tip for new co2 users. co2 tubing are tougher/stiffer than regular air pump tubing. boil some hot water and stick the tip in the water for a few mins to loosen it up so it easier to attach the co2 diffuser on. once its cool, it will stiffen up again. :D

Pro tip: If you're not buying an all in one system like this one then try to find your CO2 tank used on craigslist, etc. A lot of times when you refill your standard size CO2 tank they don't give you back the same exact one, so it can be a huge waste of money to buy a new one only to have it swapped out for an old grungy one.

When will Big Al’s be getting the CO2 system back into stock? I really love that it comes in an all-in-one set!!
My diy co2 setup was the first one showed. I can tell you that to keep it consistent and at the proper ppm. I have to check it 3 times a day, constant adjustment. Its cheap and can work but the ultimate goal is a setup as shown in this video. Keep on tankin'!!!!

Great instructional information on co2. As always, looking forward to the next video. Looking forward to hearing you talk about what plants you've picked. I've had my co2art kit set up for almost 10 weeks and I'm so thrilled I'll be able to refill my 2 pound cylinder at my local welding supply shop for just $10.00. I won't have to drive out of my town. Yay me😀.
That was such a helpful info video on Co2 startup! Co2 freaks me out a little because it seems so confusing and dangerous, but this vid really explains it in a simple way that us newbies can understand. Thanks for walking us through this entire set up process Thomas!
PS. On that little chart you showed with the Kh and pH showing the number of Co2 you’d need the higher pH section had no green Co2 option. Is my pH of 7.8 too high to use a Co2 system? Looking forward to seeing more on this tank build! 👍🏻

Nice! I did get mine set up a few weeks ago. I had some difficulty getting the tubing on. I also seem to have a little issue getting the needle valve set. Sometimes it seems to slow down and one time I looked over and it was bubbling like mad! I do like that my solenoid has a power light. Everything seems to be doing okay now. (Knock on wood.) 🥴

I have the same setup on my 20 long. Only issue is that the suction cups are garbage and the diffuser eventually leaks where it screws together. Have had no problems getting it filled even though it's an odd size. Other than that, it's perfect size for my tank.

I was considering equipping one of my best planted aquariums of 240 liters (+/- 63.40 US gallons), with a CO2 system.
I have never used CO2 systems in any of my aquariums, I always have low-requirement plants in all of them, (Anubia, Anubia Bonzai, Vallisneria Gigantea, Hechinodorus Amazonicus, Microsorum Pteropus, Cryptocoryne Wendtii Green, Kryptocoryne Undulatus Kasselman, Ceratophyllum Demersum, Limnophila Sessiliflora , Limnophila Heterophilia, Higrophila Polysperma, Bucephalandra SP Red ...)
I think that with this video you have convinced me, I like your way of explaining things, fun but accurate and clear.
One question ... what do you think about the CO2 diffusers that are connected directly to the tube that directs the water to the aquarium from the Canister Filter ???
Do not you think it's a better option and you provide better CO2 to your aquarium, than with a diffuser inside the aquarium like a ceramic diffuser or a "Pinball" ???
You also save space inside the aquarium ... And there are not so many things inside ... Heater, water suction tube, Eheim prefilter, water ejection tube, Drop checker, thermometer .... Maybe there are too many things inside of the aquarium to also add a diffuser or a "Pinball" ... What do you think?
