The first time I’ve seen a mainstream Indian director speak only about the art and creativity of his filmmaking. For some reason everyone else talks about the business or society. So refreshing!
I can’t think of a better person to interview SLB than Baradwaj Rangan, who is such an astute observer and admirer of his movies. I remember looking forward to BR’s reviews of SLB movies on his blog back in the day. Would love to see BR do an interview with him for every movie of his and dissect them one by one.
what a brilliant interview. Sanjay sir proves it that filmmaking is a lifelong process. A journey that starts young. his observation, his understanding about stories, storytelling, story creating is just amazing. His love for cinema is seen in every word he says.
When this man speaks, its all passion. Its just mesmerizing to hear the creative process and depth in his thought. In Quantum mechanics there is idea, once you have try to observed a superposed state while performing experiment, you have destroyed its whole identity. As he says once you try to dissect an art form, its gone! looses it purity. Also something when emerged from within the system it is far enriched. In Physics funny thing is you can't put such emerge state (for instance Phonon) under microscope and pin point, say look here is the emerged state. Rather It emerges from cumulative, collective vibration of all atoms. Multiple time in Bhansali's answer echos such idea. And many more.....I could hear this man day long.
It is very rare to have such people rooted so deeply in their art . Look at the face of this man when he speaks about his work , his creations. He is giving and yet not giving - A TRUE ARTIST . He is leaving room for art lovers to interpret his art form. You are the finest and after this I must say that you are the deepest within as well. Now I know where you create your films from , the place doesn’t exist physically. What an artist 👏🏻 Big thumbs up for the sensible Interviewer with intelligent questions and most importantly True questions. There wasn’t even one second of flash moment in this video. It was said from Heart and it did reach heart. Thank you for bringing it up ok social media which is otherwise filled with deafening noise. Your video is like a meditation. 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
His ideas of costume, Hindustani classical music including thumri, dances, postures, beauty is phenomenon. Being a trained dancer and a vocalist, I gage a lot of relatability. And when someone makes these stories immortal and potrays these stories with immense power and dignifies every culture the films represents are absolutely detailed and intriquing.
What an absolute treat and joy to have seen this interview. Thank you so much. Huge admirer of SLB’s cinema. The questions you asked and then allowed SLB to just flow was in itself a masterclass of two veterans.❤️
Thus guy is part of art. He is deep full of appreciation in what he believe and does. Another think like about him he give respect to senior artist be it actors actresses directors singers producers
What a delight to hear a master of his craft simplifying his craftsmanship in his own words. I can listen uninterrupted to the magical world of ‘experience’ he continues to create.
I had seen Khamoshi in the theatre. The songs were what stood out and how for the first time a disability was not morose but just an incidental part of the story.
Alamzeb cannot act to save her life. Sad to see her getting cast in such a profound role, as she is not yet ready to shoulder that kind of meaty part. SLB is best ! Bharadwaj is one of the best interviewers I hv seen, as he actually discovers various hidden gems in the movie which sometimes the director himself may be unaware. Awesome interview , enjoyed as much as Herramandi 🎉
How I would like to see at least a brief retelling of this interview in text in English. It's difficult for me to perceive by ear. Heeramandi is my MOST favorite series! A series of all time! Even the famous “Game of Thrones!” I don’t love as much as I love Heeramandi. S. L. Bhansali is a great director, maybe the greatest living now.
UM I WAS NOT READY FOR THIS! let me get my popcorn. Edit: the last part is a great follow up from the Fahad Faasil interview - I guess he is one of the rare actors who did give literally everyone else but himself credit for his amazing performances.
I am sure Vidhu Vinod Chopra must have raved about BR in his circles 😁 otherwise no way that Bhansali comes out and breaks down his thoughts in public.
✨SLB ✨ is the greatest filmmaker in the world. The directors he gets inspiration from, I believe he is way bigger & better than all of them. This is the only genius India has now. This man should be protected at any cost and must be celebrated to the heights possible. What a mind. Salute 🫡 Btw amazing interview BR as always.
Baradwajji asked questions with genuine sincerity and they resonated with SLB .This is an organic interview in which SLB shares his connection with the minds of the artists in the past who have departed .SLB also describes what love means to him and how he portrays it symblically through his characters. It almost feels like a catharasis with SLB opening up to diverse questions.SLB's mind is an amalgamation of art, architecture ,music, he isa creative genious of the past.Great host, beautiful interview, thanks to Baradwajji.
SLB....A true Cinema Man with 200 percent commitment to the craft and to the hell passionate about creating celluloid experience like never seen before in Indian screens. A big bow to BR for getting him to speak and it speaks about great credibility ..
Bhansali should understand that even simplicity, calmness and devotion has beauty of higher form than just sets and ornaments.I think there can be a great film made on Meerabai or Radha...
He understand that's why he made Khamoshi. Present form is his unique imagination. You also should understand maximalism is also a art form. There is no harm in creating it.
Excellent interview! We get a glimpse of the creative, keen observant mind of the film maker at work- creating larger than life frames with minutest details and the masterpieces leaving us the audience in awe. Wishing Sanjay jee many more🎥🙏
Really great to see the interview of SLB saying how he made the movies and deep rooted reasons for that .he is cristal clear about his ideads and how they comes from and Canvas in making is wonderful...❤❤❤
Sanjay sir name of perfect creation thinking singing how he brought the idea completely perfect I feel Sanjay sir sleep and while he wakeup in dreem he watch you need to create this shot like this the idea wonderful he chose color dress set designed everything amazing I request to Sanjay sir from where you get the move every second idea.....
While I loved the interview and hearing about Sanjay’s intuitiveness was fascinating but I thought he was a little rude to BR in the interview - You can tell BR was just trying to draw out Sanjay’s filmmaking method but it felt like Sanjay kept taking everything the wrong way.. Well done to BR for his immense patience and attention to detail
There's certain level of madness that i see in SLB, the madness to capture every aspect of anything and everything. he is the maker who focuses on his work and make masterpieces in form of movie and series he never wear designers clothes on live in expensive homes thats why his work is remembareable
Why does Sanjay not mention Aishwariya anymore.. whenever he is talking about Devdas or HDDCS or any actors he has worked with.. He does not talk about Aish.. Bhansali Productions never mentioned Aishwariya when they released the 30 Years of SLB reel..
Hey, I love the way you host interviews and read the language of films. I would love if you could get veterans who have excelled in commercial cinemas like Amitabh Bachchan, SRK, Aamir Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Sharmila Tagore and others irrespective of the language they work in. It would be so amazing to get a peak into their process, how they approached their craft, what inspired them.
Excellent interview but put English subtitles when you speak in hindhi. Not all of us understand the language. Same in Heeramandi. Some Urdu words have no English subtitles. You have a global audience so bear that in mind.
Just look at Bhansali's eyes when he is talking about movies!!! My god!!! The passion is so intense
The first time I’ve seen a mainstream Indian director speak only about the art and creativity of his filmmaking. For some reason everyone else talks about the business or society. So refreshing!
