The best part about Sanjay Bhansali is he is so much of an introvert, wearing grey and dark shades inside of his soul but coming out with so much colourful and soulfully oriented movies.

After 'Lootera' Ranveer Singh didn't have much to do. Then came 'Ram Leela', 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Padmavat', movies that shaped his career and established him as an actor par excellence. He's indebted for life to Mr. Bhansali. If it was not these movies I don't know if other directors would have imagined him in movies like 'Gully boys' and '83'.

And Deepika. She had successful movies before and she was doing well but Deepika was taken as a serious actor only after Ramleela. That movie plus Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat completely transformed her career and catapulted her to the number 1 spot no doubt.

Hmm.. Ram Leel was supposed to be done by sushant singh Rajput. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has said he chased sushant for 5yrs but adhitya chopra didn't let him to do bcz of contract, Instead aditya made ranveer singh who is also in contract to do the film..😒 We were all fooled

@@user-qp9sj4gw1u what do you mean we were fooled? We weren't fooled. This has nothing to do with you and me. Aditya Chopra signed Sushant and Parineeti for three films to launch them as YRF's next superstars. Just like what YRF did with Ranveer and Anushka. Just like what Dharma did with Varun, Alia and Sidhharth. Sushant came into the movies because of Aditya Chopra, you and I know Sushant only because Aditya Chopra decided to cast him in YRF movies. Stop falling into the persecution narrative. It's getting so old

Sanjay Sir's Khamoshi is one of the best movies I have seen. I loved Nana and Manisha in it. There is a scene where an angry Manisha is trying to reason out with her deaf-mute father Nana, using hand language. While she is frantically arguing with Nana, he slams the door shut on her. Manisha continues arguing, her fingers flaying about in desperation, making mute conversation with Nana and all along Nana is behind the closed door out of her sight. Brilliant acting.

What SLB went through during Padmaavat shooting was one of the most insane and evil thing done to any greatly respected artist of Indian Film Industry.
It's shameful ... a person who has brought so much recognition for Indian Films through pure and brilliant cinematic experience world over , had no security in his own country.
A very large number of foreign UA-camrs and Bloggers who blog on Bollywood .... had fallen in love with Indian films , just by happening to watch an SLB movie.

Ashu Talkies this actually applies to any artist from Bollywood. Everyone is way more loved by the rest of the world than by indian people. I was shocked when I saw the stuff people say about the best artists I‘ve ever seen. Deepika, Priyanka, Ranveer, Shahid, Shah Rukh, Abhishek, Aishwarya and many more. I‘ve come to the conclusion that Bollywood artists biggest haters are the indian people. I don‘t understand that at all.

    • @ashutalkies3857

Nora Hoti That's why they are called coward trolls .... you see , with more population ... more trollers exist....and then India is one country which has one of the lowest cost Internet services in the world ... some trolls take advantage and keep spreading hatred .... you just have to completely IGNORE .... and concentrate on millions of other beautiful fans of a particular celeb out their and their views and opinions.
My argument lies more towards the law and order system in our country ... the attack on SLB on Padmaavat sets was bizzare and horrific... if a director with this much fame and respect is not safe in our country .... then what about other people?

@@sidhartha8444 and the main reason they are so big is bc they're actually really talented, not like some of those who are in the industry bc of their privilige 👀 like Alia. She's not that bad but neither is she that good and without her father and Karan she would probably only have small supporting roles. The rest of the world doesn't care about actors family backround, we care about their talent and those I mentioned are really the most talented. Also, I'd say Katrina Anushka and Ranbir are very talented, but not as talented as those I mentioned at first.

May be Anupama thinks while rating "Apun hi Bhagwan he" ..But she really asked a good question why his movies seems unreal..But I think we watch movies to forget the reality. Everyone has their own style and yes they are lovable... Lighting a lamp for 10 years is not practically possible but it shows the love Paro has for Devdas .. SLB's vision for films is grand but more often than not, faulter's in storytelling. He depends too much on actors to invoke emotions in dialogue sequences.
One of the prime example of this is a early scene in Padmavaat when Padmavati is tested by the priest. It's played as a intense scene but there's no set up to why it should be a intense conversation between the characters.

What a great interview that was, Anupama Chopra! Thank you for pursuing Sanjay Leela Bhansali for this one :) I absolutely loved hearing him talk about his process, his humble beginnings and inspirations ... The way he talks about bringing so many art forms together through film making. I found myself liking Sanjay Leela Bhansali the person... And strange as it may sound, I loved connecting with him! Thank you for being the kind of film maker you are... ! Truly Genius!

My mind's always goes like him. Over the years we have been experiencing such realities. Our subconscious minds always think about the cinematic platter of arts which he had mentioned in this interview. But the most interesting part of his career is that whatever he nurtured in his mind, he successfully portrayed what he dreamt off. I wish I were director like him. True respect for this gentleman.

The woman who's come forward stayed with Anupama's family for a few days after she came out to Vidhu Chopra with those allegations.
I think people's problem with Anupama has more to do with her being a feminist than this incident. If they really do care about the woman, they surely would have read the numerous news articles online which clearly state the stand Anupama has taken. Also, it was her husband who worked with Hirani, not her. Why should only the women be answerable? Criticise the offender, not his colleague's wife!

It wasn’t anupama’s story to come out with. It’s definitely up to the girl how she wants to take this forward. And at the end of the day she listened to the complaints and told her to go to the legal department which means the police which is the correct response. The lady has to be mentally prepared to take the next step especially when you have been violated. All you can do is be supportive. And also lady worked for RHF not VCF so she doesn’t have the authority to investigate. I am tired of people trying to blame a lady for a man’s actions...

The story of 'Padmavati' didn't 'happen' - it is a legend derived from a 17th century poem, so this rejoinder of historical veracity in every single interview about the film needs to be scrutinised because it almost amounts to historical denial, or even revision. If indeed the filmmaker chooses to film a legend - which they must, because film everything, why not - then it is also incumbent upon them to defend the system of values their film represents, since it is no longer a tangible, verifiable 'reality' that one is talking of, but an intangible, mythical representation. As such, the real question for Bhansali here, and very crucial here, is: what are the values your final scene represents? Why did you film the legend uncritically? Why did you not engage with its meaning and allegory more deeply?
When he says, the scene is to show how brave these women are and uses the example of hara-kiri to demonstrate his point, he is subscribing again to the commonly held, wrongful perception of hara-kiri as a means for the warrior to choose honour over surrender; instead, it was more commonly used as capital punishment against disgraced warriors (let aside the deeply feudal system that perpetuated it and permitted its very existence). It wasn't a glorious, romantic act as Bhansali thinks - his perverse obsession with the deterioration of the body, destruction of oneself, sacrifice, sadomasochism and suffering is obviously, not resident only within Padmavati, but in every single title. His celebration of these as something to aspire to is interesting.
Finally, the question of cinema, which must be addressed: it is not 'what' you depict at all that matters (who cares if it is historically true or not) but how you depict it that is essential. Insofar as Bhansali's depiction of all self-destruction (Padmavati is only the latest example) is to illustrate that the 20th century does not seem to have happened for him at all, it is to question him why he thinks, after all, that running into the fire is an act of courage? Why is that he does not locate any sense of irony in it, or diagnoses a pathetic desperation on the part of the women doing it? Why is it that all the buffoonery is reserved for Khilji, while the women rush to their death like a suicide club have a hagiography framed to them? Why does he not attempt to complicate the matter slightly by inducing a second of hesitation or remorse, even? Or finally, why does his appreciation of suffering never assume either logistical proportions (what does it take to suffer, how much does it cost - like Dev. D.), spiritual proportions (Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni's Vihir - which follows after suffering, not end with it) or even truly poetic ones (he mines it for kitsch, largely - but it is a performance of pain, a set of gestures). One of the chief aims of modern thought in artistic creation is to frame events of the past within the aesthetic standards of the time of the work's production - this creates, if done cautiously and without a sense of mockery or exotic intrigue, a true dialogue between the past and the present and results in cultural replenishment and evolution. When, for instance - and we return to hara-kiri, which Bhansali is clearly dying to make a film about - the Japanese masters make a film about a samurai who needs to perform hara-kiri (think Kobayashi, or Miike), they do not depict the act sentimentally and without critical engagement. Instead, they also depict its executive rigour, the sheer violence it yields (which Bhansali calls 'gruesome' and thus refrains from showing because it will soil his 'beautiful' frame - why? didn't that 'happen' too?) and the absurd ceremony resident within it. Their criticism - or engagement - is not with the individual or the samurai who must commit the act, but with the system that renders it normal or even, heroic.
