I think I will just use a long slit on top. The tissue will still come thru easily. Thank you for the video.

I failed geometry class in spectacular fashion. It could have been because the teacher barked, truly barked like a dog, and thought I was my sister! This is ingenious! I was able to follow you every step. Thank you so much. Here in the States with American Football, this would be great for the big games like The Super Bowl. Now my ex-husband can hug his body pillow with his tissues sitting beside him.😅😊❤ I love this!

haha, I love this. I'd be making one for my ex straight away Sharon.... I wonder how many students used to bark back in class😁

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs I wanted to so badly, but I just kept thinking we were on "Candid Camera". Then realizing, she just would lose touch with reality. I actually left class one day and got the principal. He asked if she bit anyone yet! He finally watched, and then she "retired". I knew every teacher's business. It was like a soap opera in my high school. 😂 Small town...if someone belches on one side of town, the people on the other side know what they had for supper. All well before any computers 😂😳

I was wondering if a casing was sewn at the bottom and elastic fed through if the cover would stay on the box. Thanks so much for this pattern. ❤️

    • @ChristinesHomeAffairs
      @ChristinesHomeAffairs  8 місяців тому

That's a good idea Kay. You'd make the side panels longer with the casing, then it can sit under the box😁

I’m laughing out loud when you say that sometimes you are just too lazy for your own good…you are so clever, and this tissue box fit perfectly. I like that it’s reversible. Kudos for making the opening with the template, but I’m lazy too sometimes, I will just make a long rectangle. Thank you for the great tutorial.

My 2 sons use to take my tissue boxes and use them as projectiles at each other and looked so banged up. Darn boys! To this day, both are in their late 30’s and they laugh about it to this day. I should have done this years ago.

haha, what a lovely memory Elly. My boys used to fling spaghetti on a glass cabinet when I'd leave the room. They still think that's funny too😁

A nice little project for me, i think i will just make a rectangle opening though, regardless of the shape 🤔 thanks Christine!!

Lovely tutorial again. We have boxes of tissues in so many rooms and I think they look so much nicer covered in fabric. Love that it’s double sided too. 👍👍. Thanks Christine x

Thank you so much for this pattern and tutorial! I suffered through making one of these at Christmas time using a pattern that is way too complicated and was a tight fit. That stopped me from making some as gifts, but not now❤❤❤ HI from Canada 😊

Another great video! I make these in smaller and square sizes, and then purchase the less expensive larger boxes at Dollar Tree, to refill the smaller boxes. I write on the inside of the cardboard the number of sheets of the refill tissue that will fit in the box, and always gift a larger box with the smaller one. It is easy to cut the bottom of the smaller box on three sides, so that it is hinged, and then use small velcro tabs to keep the bottom closed until the next refill. The swirl opening can also be traced onto the top of the smaller box and cut out. If using up small fabric scraps, the pattern can be cut apart on the fold limes, and seam allowance added to the cut line, in order to keep patchwork strips going in the desired direction. If no direction, then it is easy to create random patchwork on a thin piece of cloth or interfacing, and then cut out using the pattern. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much people enjoy tissue box covers, especially when they can be personalized. Photographs can be printed on printable fabric sheets, and then applied to the sides of the pattern before construction.

I made the one with the grommet no matter what shape the opening of the box was it works just the same, I used thick felt.

Brilliant. I'm going to make several. A tip I use when trying to line up the center x of something on top of the center x of something else (your tissue box lid you removed from The tissue box and your paper) I place a straight pin through the center x of the top item and then while peeking under that paper/item I place the pin in the center of the bottom x. That way I know I am truly center.. Hope that makes sense.

Love this! I saw a tutorial from someone else a few years ago and they used a round curtain ring, like a very large grommet, for the hole where the tissue pulls out. I liked that idea but her tutorial was much more complicated than yours. Thanks for always making things so clear and easy to understand.
    Hugs,

thanks for doing this one, I've been meaning to make a couple of these for ages. (you can make the hole in the top whatever shape you like, i would just make a slim oval - as long as it is long enough that the tissues don't tear you'll be fine.

If you wanted to be fussy, you could top-stitch a little crimp along the top perimeter of the box.

That "oops" is why I always make separate templates for interfacing and main pieces! Too many times I forgot to add seam allowances after I cut out the fused fabric .

If you have a pair of Pinking Shears you don't have to clip corners, it does it for you. They're worth the expense as far as I'm concerned. Scissors aren't cheap, and these make the job MUCH faster! Clipping curves is just annoying to me, and I don't like the added stress of the chance I can clip through the seam. Also, the time to fix it...if that would even work, as sometimes it won't stand the stress or laundry.

Would it work (the cut out issue) if you turned the box around, from the first position?
