We have a saying in Afrikaans, bo bont onder vol stront, which means that it can look good on top but underneath it looks bad. You just proved that the undeside is also important and it look great
The way I see it is... if you want it to look like a new table then go buy a new table. A restored table comes with character and blemishes, it has a history and nothing you do erases that. I happen to love furniture that is getting a second life, a new chapter, and kept out of a landfill. I think you did an excellent job.
Better than it ever was! Now that I follow your channel, when I see anyone else who doesn't take care of the underside I always say: "Angie would have never ever left behind any spot" and I immediately stop watching the video. So be always proud of yourself and say brava Angie!
The end result is lovely! I really appreciate your attention to detail, even though I know it's hard to accept that things aren't "perfect". Oh, and I laughed really hard at the Clampett joke!
OMG, just in time! My husband picked out a nightstand for $20 at the Salvation Army for me to fix up for him. I thought it was a discount furniture store, manufactured material piece. Once we got it home I saw it was part of an Arne Wahl Iversen teak bedroom set for the Danish furniture makers, Vinde Mobelfabrik (she says like she knows what she's talking about) . Not worth very big bucks, but surely not deserving of all the glue and spray paint and crap I planned to do to it. It is no where near in as bad of shape as this, which is good because I am NOT anywhere near what anyone would call a refurbisher., but I'm now watching this for advice on how I should treat the wood to make it feel better.
Lovely as always. ❤ I adore teak. I think it is my favorite wood. Ever seen teak trees? I’ve visited Costa Rica a number of times and they have many teak farms. They are amazing when they flower. Little pods that eventually burst open with fuzzy cotton-like seeds. From a distance, while in full bloom, the trees appear to be inside some sort of haze. Enchanting.
Finishing the bottom of pieces should help them last longer, too! Unfinished wood will absorb moisture differently and could cause warping and other problems long term.
Not pleased but be proud of this saving !!! It is looking stunning , and what we saw in the beginning it is hard to believe it is the same table! Your are making furniture so amazing again and i love your videos so much ! Greets !!
I love that you'll need to do a whole other video on those chairs. It makes me think of how loved and well-used they were before they got in your hands. And how fortunate they were to get into your hands!! You're like the fairy in the Velveteen Rabbit children's book. You make furniture ✨real✨!
They’re not flaws, just birthmarks. It’s so satisfying to see the finished products. I wouldn’t like it as much without the ding ghosts. You truly are the master!
Now this is a piece I would love to have & make it a family “heirloom”. It is a gorgeous vintage table with lived in character & something I would hope a family would use & pass down. BEAUTIFUL work Angie! 💜
Hi Angie! My furniture restoration days are behind me, but I always enjoy seeing and hearing about your's! It might not matter to most people that the underside of tables is unfinished BUT expectant doggies would appreciate seeing the pretty instead of unfinished wood! I'm sure it would make THEM feel Special! Hugs, Judi -- and WOOF! 🐶🐶🐶💓
You turned a reject into an heirloom piece! And I love the extra mile you went to to "dress" the underside. Most people will never see it, but, it's like wearing something pretty underneath your clothing. At least You know special that extra effort makes you feel. 🤗
Totally agree. I get a cup of coffee, fluff up the pillows on my couch and absorb myself in your videos. Your voice is so calming and your teaching method is very helpful to those of us who are always looking to pick up something new. Sooooooo much good info in this video. Thank you Angie! 💛
Beautiful! You did a great job. Do ypu have a video about how to care for furniture? Remove spills, no pledge, etc. Also I like your sense of humor. I see it in your added clips, especially.
For cleaning- most people are overkill. I usually recommend a soft, lint free, slightly damp cloth. For things that need a bit more, a slight bit of a mild dish soap, wiped clean afterwards with the slightly damp cloth. Things like pledge are terrible for finishes, because of what they contain. And some commercial cleaners will eat through certain finishes and not others, so if someone is not 100 percent certain what their finish is, just a slightly damp cloth to remove the dust is fine. Something like a beeswax polish every so often is usually ok on most finishes, but again- if you’re unfamiliar with the finish, it’s best to avoid anything but dust removal.
You are too hard on yourself! You made a stunning difference to this piece. Vintage furniture is bound to have a few character marks after over 50 years of hard labour! If not it would look too new. Take a bow Angie !!👏👏👏👏👌👌👌🥳🥳🥳❤
I just stumbled across your channel and you have brought so many memories back for me. I just turned 61, my Father passed in 2003, he always restored all our furniture. I have 4 dressers, a book/ library table and a porcelain enameled steel top dining table that slides revealing a leaf that extends it. I use it in my bedroom as a computer desk and work stand. The rest are in storage in need of love and restoration. I can not bear to throw them away. I have broken slides, dovetails that wobble, warped pieces. I only wish I had the knowledge to bring them back to life. I grew up with them and they are cherished. I spend time in the storage unit recalling years gone bye. Thank you for reminding me how things do not have to be thrown out and are loved.
Angie, this is stunning. Personally, I think the imperfections are part of the fact that this piece has had a life. And you’ve restored it and enabled it to have a second chapter! 🙌
A great save. Just had a month in Nova Scotia from the UK and as we were driving around everyone seemed to have put out their large items of trash for collection and there were some lovely bits of interesting furniture. It made me think of you. Loved the whole area - missing it madly now we're home.
First of, the table looks gorgeous! Second, I LOVE that you refinish the underside and inside of the pieces you take. If I were to buy a refinished midcentury piece for my house I would get one completely done, the way you do it. I love seeing you apply the Odies' oil.
Gorgeous! As a child I used to play under dining tables frequently, building “forts”, etc. I can attest that the undersides were always disappointing. I would have loved the look of this table! ❤
Magnificent Angie. Simply beautiful. Your attention to detail is astounding. Your ability to save pieces most people would discard is a talent in and of itself. Having the vision is a big part of the battle. Another job well done.
Gorgeous ! I bet it feels good, it looks so smooth now! My dad built cabinets and remodeled old houses. I remember how the wood felt once he finished the process. Thank you for the fond memory of my dad.
I appreciate every time you highlight the good characteristics of pressed wood in furniture.for the people who think only "solid wood" is worth anything. Stable substrate is such an important variable in furniture - you want your chair/wardrobe/dresser to not "breatle" with the weather changes xD
Beautiful work ❤ The wood sings and only your eye would see any deficits! Love that you treat the wood under the tabletop too! I feel so happy knowing it is nourished, conditioned and protected…plus it looks pretty 😂
You say finishing the underside only matters to you, but you are wrong. I love that you finish the underside of tables, and the backs of cabinets. Manufacturers who care should also do so. My parents bought a teak dining table back in the 70s, and Mum was always reminding us that teak is a soft wood and easily marked. We were VERY careful when using it for anything, and it looks almost as good today as when it arrived.
What a remarkable transformation, Angie! My favorite aspect of the way you work is that you clean, sand, and seal even the parts that are not visible. Your attention to detail is exceptional. This makes it look more professional. Whenever you do anything, you do it with such beauty and care. 😻💓😻💓😻
Sweetie, dont worry too much about small dings and scratches. This table has lived, very few things can go thro life without a few dings and marks. It is a beautiful piece. You should be proud.
Amazing job! I cannot believe the manufacturer drilled the holes for the leaf that way! That would drive my OCD crazy! And you are not alone in checking & refinishing the undersides of tables! Bottoms need love too! 😊
I am always happy to see a new vlog of you bringing an old piece back to life if not better than when new....Hello 👋🏻 from Alhambra Southern California 🌴
The finish on the wood really showcases the grain. I love that while the table could be classified as mid-century, it's such a timeless, clean design it would be suitable for so many people.
Gorgeous as always, Angie! I know you like every detail perfect but I love the signs of honest wear on a vintage or antique piece. I want its history to show. I would treasure the dings and scratches! I love the way you finish the underside, such quality in your work.
I don’t think perfection or excellence is defined by the last results of a work. But by the time you get to do everything clean, perfect and new. Is like the human beings, even after a surgery we still have a scar. As always you did amazing!!!
Unbelievable results Angie!!! You have me officially hooked. I just found out that the 5 piece bedroom set we have at our cottage is Andrew Malcolm furniture. Inherited it from a great aunt a long time ago. I've sanded a drawer from one of the nightstands. Beautiful solid wood drawer front with dovetails and I think mahogany inside. I was stupid and painted most of the pieces over 25 years ago. I got my work cut out for me. I hope I can do you proud. T
I love that you seal less-frequently unseen parts! The stain perfectly restored the vintage MCM appearance on this one. That colour mixture is perfect.
Great job making that wood glow, Angie. As a kid who spent many, many hours under our antique, ornate dining room table playing and making forts, I appreciate what you've done to beautify and protect the underside of the table.
I got teary when the underside of the table was being 'buttered' because it looked so beautiful. I told myself not to be ridiculous, but got teary again at the reveal. I love wood furniture and I love the fact Angie rejuvenates a battered piece of furniture into something that's lovely again.
Take a bow Angie, you did a great job on this table. You may be able to still see some marks, but this only adds to the character of the piece. It’s lovely ❤
Thank you for this great video! Amazing! You really gave this table a new life! Someone is going to love it and have pride in it's beauty. Remember, when it is set for dinner, those marks will be hidden! Have a good week!
Thank you for taking the time to show the photos of how thin the veneer is. It was super thin. Easy to see that this table has been used and abused, but as always you’ve done an amazing job to restore a table that will have many more shared meals and stories. ❤
Love the transformation. Most of those spots I didn't really see until you pointed them out. One thought, perhaps for a different episode, why isn't there a place/way to store that extra table leaf underneath? Just seems like a natural place to store it? You know what I mean?
Some tables have room underneath to store the leaves out of the way, and some tables have that storage built right in (butterfly leaf, for example). Sadly, there isn’t space between the mechanism rails for it. :-(
Great little joke about Clampett! I love teak. It is a beautiful wood. You really did a wonderful job restoring this table, as usual! Those cuts and marks and dings give the table character. I don't understand why people expect perfection from restored furniture. The signs of use give it a taste of continuity.
I feel like you should know that I think of you a LOT as I’m refinishing my interior doors. They’re 100+ years old and I’m constantly reminding myself of things I’ve learned from you - primarily that I don’t need to get all of the finish off with my first and coarsest grit 😅 Your patience and care are so evident in everything you do, and I really admire you! Thank you for teaching me a ton in the last couple of years I’ve been religiously watching!!
Such beautiful clean lines. The work you do is so valuable. Instructive and satisfying to watch, and mostly a pushback against the "use and discard" mentality. I live in a 150 year old home that was in rough shape when we moved in 40 years ago. It's full of salvaged furniture and second hand tools and items. I love your outlook and the incredible work you do to "save items from the trash." Many thanks Angie
It’s beautiful. And I care about the underside! The fact that you do it is a sign of mastery and love for a piece of furniture, especialy as butchered as this one.
Hi Angie, You knocked it out of the park again!! It looks like a brand new table top from what a ruffed beaten up mess it was. What a talent you have. I enjoy your explanations of what and why you are doing it. God bless and take care from your California subscriber 🙏🤲
Even with the few small imperfections that you couldn't really do anything about, it turned out gorgeous. As always, another fantastic job very well done, Angie. 😊
You’re spoiling us Ang. I watch others and some don’t do the underside and I’m like “WHY BOTHER DOING IT HAVE ASSED)? The finish wrk is always in the details and that includes what you can’t see. I love that you are a complete and thorough restorer. You never disappoint. This was mouthwatering 😂❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 When my sandpaper gets those little nubs or build up on it I use a utility blade and knock it off
Beautiful! I love that you take the extra time to seal the bottoms of tables and revive drawers. It's that step that makes you and your work really stand out.
I love the color you bring out in the wood. It’s one of the most dramatic changes of before and after throughout the stages of your restoration. So pretty. ❤
SOOO many folks have asked about the sandpaper cleaning block! I do have it linked in the description but lots seem to have missed it, so posting it here as well. :-)

Just got mine in the mail last week! Thank you for sharing this. Had no idea they made such a thing. 😁
Thanks! I for one look forward to your teak-chair vid, cuz I have a few chairs I do NOT know how to save!! 😂
Love spending part of my Sunday watching you do your magic and sharing it with all of us. Thank you Angie!!! 💐
You are so welcome! 😀

I love that! Thank you for sharing it! ❤️
you can see the wood heaving a sigh of relief after your magic!
It turned out beautiful.

The "Wood Whisperer" has done it again . Beautiful work.🤓
Great comment
You are so correct
Thanks for making smile😊
Aww thank you so much! ☺️
This comment is so on point, Angie, you're The Wood Whisperer indeed.
Ohhhh my gosh!!! I laughed so hard when I read this!!! Fantastic!!!

You can do it!
All the best with your piece! 😊
Great restoration as usual Angie. Like you, I do care about the underside of things lol😂😂😍😍
Thanks so much!
Beautiful. Who would have thought it could be that glorious from what you started with? Angie did. You can save darn near everything.
Wow! Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! 😊
That is really gorgeous. You truly have a gift!😊
Absolutely amazing work! Every detail of this table is beautiful. Great video, Angie!
Glad you like it!
Great mixture of Stain. LOve the color..Table looks great.
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
I appreciate the fact that you finish the underside.
There was never a doubt that you would make it beautiful again. 🎉🎉🎉
I appreciate that! Thank you! 😊
I love that you took a trashed piece of furniture, and made it into a work of art, right from your heart!
Thank you so much! 😊
Lovely as always. ❤ I adore teak. I think it is my favorite wood.

Thank you for telling us about that!
That sounds amazing!
"Tape it to Clampett" Haha!! 😄 Clever little addition on your video Angie!
🤣 I'm glad you caught that!
Mid century pieces are so stylish. Your attention to detail has made this look so good!
Thank you very much! 😀
Your meticulous attention to detail is what separates your work from others. Another phenomenal restoration in the books!
Thank you kindly! 😊
You, as the artist, only see the imperfections and things you cannot change. The rest of us just sees the beautiful creation your made. Wonderful job.
Wow, thank you very much! I really appreciate that!
Finishing the bottom of pieces should help them last longer, too! Unfinished wood will absorb moisture differently and could cause warping and other problems long term.
Exactly! 😊
As always a great job preserving and saving from the dumpster landfill or being burned in the fireplace.
Thank you very much! 😀
Beautiful as always! You really brought out the glow in that Teak!
Thank you so much! 😊
Considering what you started with Angie, I think it looks bloody fabulous! It will be someone’s pride and joy 👌 x
I'm so glad you like it! 😊
Not pleased but be proud of this saving !!! It is looking stunning , and what we saw in the beginning it is hard to believe it is the same table! Your are making furniture so amazing again and i love your videos so much ! Greets !!
Thank you so much! 😊
You are too hard on yourself Angie, another masterpiece ❤❤❤
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow! Great job! Your work is always impeccable.
Thank you so much 😀
Wow, Angie, I love the color(s). Amazing restoration, so inspiring!
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I love that you'll need to do a whole other video on those chairs. It makes me think of how loved and well-used they were before they got in your hands. And how fortunate they were to get into your hands!! You're like the fairy in the Velveteen Rabbit children's book. You make furniture ✨real✨!
Oh wow!! Thank you so much!! I'm touched! 😊
It looks great! I love teakwood and you did a beautiful job restoring it.
Glad you like it!! Thank you so much for watching! 😀
They’re not flaws, just birthmarks. It’s so satisfying to see the finished products. I wouldn’t like it as much without the ding ghosts. You truly are the master!
I appreciate that! Thank you! 😊
A beautiful transformation. You really do know your stuff! x
Thank you very much! 😊
You saved a piece of trash and made it beautiful! The boo boo's thatcare still there are character marks. All old pieces have them.😊
I appreciate that! Thank you!
Now this is a piece I would love to have & make it a family “heirloom”. It is a gorgeous vintage table with lived in character & something I would hope a family would use & pass down. BEAUTIFUL work Angie! 💜
Thank you so much! 😊

I'm sure it would make THEM feel Special! Hugs, Judi -- and WOOF! 🐶🐶🐶💓
Thank you so much Judi! I appreciate your kind words. 😊
The stain you used, actually brought out the teak color and grain. It was just enough to enhance it.
Such a beautiful job on the teak table.❤️🇨🇦🐕
Thank you very much! 😊
You turned a reject into an heirloom piece! And I love the extra mile you went to to "dress" the underside. Most people will never see it, but, it's like wearing something pretty underneath your clothing. At least You know special that extra effort makes you feel. 🤗
Oh thank you! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you so much!!

For what it's worth, I can absolutely appreciate your attention to detail including taking care of the underside.
It’s beautiful! Those tiny imperfections are hardly noticeable. I absolutely love watching you turn neglected furniture into heirloom pieces.

What a jewel you’ve made from a table that was sure to be destroyed. You really are a miracle worker with your furniture! 🎉 Congratulations 🎉
Wow, thank you! 😊

Restoring the underside matters to a lot of us. We appreciate the extra attention to detail. 🙂
I'm very glad!! 😀
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
Wow!! You're so incredibly welcome! I'm honoured when I hear my videos have helped someone else! 😊
You're very welcome Mary! Your house sounds wonderful! ❤️
It’s beautiful. And I care about the underside! The fact that you do it is a sign of mastery and love for a piece of furniture, especialy as butchered as this one.
I'm so glad you like it! 😀
Hi Angie, You knocked it out of the park again!! It looks like a brand new table top from what a ruffed beaten up mess it was. What a talent you have. I enjoy your explanations of what and why you are doing it. God bless and take care from your California subscriber 🙏🤲
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I wish I lived close enough to you to buy something from you. Your restorations are amazing!
I'm so glad you like them!!
It is like night and day, Angie! I'd like that table in a heartbeat if I had a dining room!
Thank you so much! 😊
Even with the few small imperfections that you couldn't really do anything about, it turned out gorgeous. As always, another fantastic job very well done, Angie. 😊
Many thanks!
This was mouthwatering 😂❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When my sandpaper gets those little nubs or build up on it I use a utility blade and knock it off
Thank you so much Jodi!
Beautiful! I love that you take the extra time to seal the bottoms of tables and revive drawers. It's that step that makes you and your work really stand out.
Thank you very much! 😊
Stunningly beautiful - as always! Your extra TLC really makes each piece a stunner!
Thank you very much! 😀
Again you knocked this right out of the park 🎆 always a treat to see you work your magic 😊👍🇨🇦
Thank you so much for watching! 😊
I love the color you bring out in the wood. It’s one of the most dramatic changes of before and after throughout the stages of your restoration. So pretty. ❤
Thank you very much for watching! 😊
