the video was pretty straight forward. From what it covered, I use both hemispheres equally. I draw detailed artwork, calculate complex mathematics quickly in my head, communicate effectively in both written and spoken language, improv in iambic pentameter, and I'm extremely expressive both physically and while speaking. I remember addresses and phone numbers all the way back to age 3, as well as birth dates of everyone I've met, and social security numbers of my 4 children, both ex wives, and their driver license numbers. It's quite annoying at times.
Has anyone here taken a course on brain lateralization? What are your thoughts? Feel free to request new videos or topics for us. In our last one, someone mentioned wanting one on sleep disorders that involved feeling like you're being watched. Let us know if you guys would like something like that!
It`s possible for someone to have traits from both parts? I mean... I am ambidextrous and from the description I felt like I can relate to both but not entirely to one of them... I don`t know what to think when it comes to this topic.
Pretty much 99.9% people have all functions of both hemispheres, since both of hemispheres are talking between each other by a "connection" called _corpus callosum._ People can also pretty much learn to be ambidextrous, unless they only have one side of the brain. Then it's a bummer.
I’m a live sound engineer and mix sound for concerts. This makes a lot of sense. When I’m working I turn my back away from the band/stage and it sounds WAY DIFFERENT! Try this, at your next concert, turn away from the music and notice the difference.
The last part about damage was rather important. Being born with a damaged right hemisphere has shaped my entire life, and I keep running into situations where I think a healthy person would not have the issues I do.
So to get the best of your brain you should practice with your non-dominant hand more to stimulate the non-dominant side of the brain because the hands are directly connect to the brain (as any other organs in your body).
I don't think the differences are quite as definite and universal as this video suggests. I'm very strongly left-handed but I've always excelled at logical and detail-oriented work - I have a degree in physics and spent years working as a (self-taught) programmer, and I've never shown any real creative talent. Had a stroke in 2017 which wiped out a large part of my left hemisphere and left me comatose for a month. Due to the location and extent of the damage I was not expected to recover the ability to speak or understand speech. The neurologists reckoned that I was one of the fairly large percentage of left-handers whose speech handling areas are on the right rather than the left. The problems I've suffered from the stroke are mainly with numbness and weakness on the right, problems with balance and proprioception, and following rapid speech or complex plots in films, tv and books. All things which I had no problem with before the stroke. Otherwise my mental faculties are remarkably intact - seems that neuroplasticity is a near-magical thing, and the brain may not be as modular and compartmentalised as we think.
I've always been artistic it's my passion but just a few years ago I was the victim of an assault which left me with TBI and I've become even more creative even though it's more of a challenge with the physical problems I've been left with, I'm also right handed so I'm not sure I go with this stuff.
I think I'm slightly more right brained.? My desk looks like a tornado went through it because all it is is clustered up art supplies. I'm kinda creative.? And I'm mostly driven by emotion.
is this true?? Because I have heard that this is a misconception and that we use both sides equally. We don't use one side more than the other. I am confused hahah.
Well, I'm really confused. At the the beginning of the video, you said, right is controlled by the left and vise versa. You're dominant side, and what side of the brain it is controlled by, is you're dominant side of the brain. Well, I'm right handed, but I've always based myself on creativity, rather than knowledge or the literal world. If you know why this is please tell me.
So nobody is going to mention the gun wielding polar bear? Alright. 😂 Love your channel guys. I took AP Psych last year and this August I'll be starting my journey to become a child therapist, so it's good to watch these so I don't get too rusty before the semester starts.
Thank you, people with dyslexia is right brain focused, thinking more in abstract then logic. It is harded to comprehen linerar thinking for both myself and my partner.
Maybe but both SideS of my brain were pierCed by weird whiStling, happening with every 'S' and 'C' sound. Please @Psych2Go be more carefull with sound-tests!
Actually, there's new evidence that we've had the two hemispheres reversed for quite a while now. This is coming from my cognitive science class just this past spring semester as an undergrad: the left is actually the creative side involving language production and narrative cohesion, whereas the right is the literal and factual details-oriented side. In other words, the left is philosophically minded while the right is mathematically minded.
So how is this in my self? 1. I can raise the upper left of my lips 2. I can raise my right eyebrow 3. It is way more easier for me to blink my left eye rather than my right eye 4. And i am Right handed. Is it normal? And in my entire elementary years, my medals are all "Most Creative" Not for being arogant here, but i'm just curious. _reply_
It’s ironic that I use both sides constantly but both sides also follow the rules of being damaged. I haven’t been subjected to traumatic brain injury. Maybe ptsd symptoms but idk
There is something wrong with my brain. I can seemlessly do all things with both my hands. However, when I get tired of doing something with one hand and switch to the other hand, I feel like a pop and I get dizzy for a second and then I can do whatever I was doing with the first hand with my other hand. I do not understand it.
Whoa, when I take online quizzes they tell I use both sides equally but according to this video, all of the things I find difficult (turning ideas into words, turning details into a big picture, dealing with the cold, and fine motor skills when playing instruments) are all left brain things. And even though I'm right handed, I use my left eye way more than my right
I'm most definitely left-brained ... you can actually see it in my avatar picture (MRI mirrors left & right). And that's why I'm particularly interested in what deficits (or imbalances by the dominating left-side) I might have - you know, what to put more effort in, what's not worth the efforts etc... Any concrete tips & advices would be very welcomed!
Question: as a child I was left-handed and so I think my right-side should be dominant, but I've been forced to use my right hand which is now dominant... how's it impacting on the brain functions (aside of the weird pen-holding way) if you didn't do a video on this already ?
That's a great question. Researchers are still determining if there's a real link between your handedness and your brain dominance. "For over 150 years, many researchers have been trying to figure out this robust-but-imperfect correlation between handedness and brain lateralization." www.indiana.edu/~primate/brain.html. In short, it probably doesn't have an impact.
Is it possible to have a 50/50 balance for these neurological functions? I feel like I'm creative, emotional, sensitive, and spontaneous but can also be analytical, rational, aloof and arrogant... currently questioning myself
Left side of the brain ( memory ) Right side of the brain ( imagination ) Finding the connection between them creates your (present). No more past gravitational forces and no more future resistance.
I'm right handed but I'm definitely more right brained. Although I can logically think too and have trouble with creativity sometimes I'm not good with words either. Tbh i relate to both...
Ahhh... I spent hours constantly over analalysing my behaviour to figure out which brain hemisphere is dominant I'm dying pls... Also this reminds me of matpat's undertale theories..
Definitely my brain dominant is right brain cause I'm left handed here's why Left hand use 1.I use my left hand for writing 2.i use my left hand to hold a sword 3.I use my left hand for punching 4.I use my left hand for holding a spoon And I'm using both my right hand and my left hand to type in computer phone etc..
Good question, but so far, we haven't come across research that suggest it might. Introversion and extroversion has more to do with a personality trait and there hasn't been much research about parts of the brains that control that.

Which side brain I use don't know. It is more confusing for me. I'm left hand person. I write with left hand, throw ball with left hand but when eat I use my right hand, I work for an electronic company and I Handel tool with both hand it doesn't effect my work if I use right hand. I'm good at drawing and painting But still I'm good at learning languages. I learn English all by my self. Math is not my fav though. But I love to dive into the science and logic.
Im a bit more right brained dominant. And.. my right brain is damaged? Because ive always been really angsty and been dealing with depression for five years.
You say when the left brain is damaged you only focus on the larger parts of vision? And your speech is off? And when tour right brain is damaged/overworked you lose the desire to create, and want to die? So quick question, if you haven't been sleeping properly can this put a similar effect on the brain? Because...I haven't slept in a week I am weak I am awake.(hamiltonreferance) And these symptoms apply to me. P.S. How do you tell which one you are? Does that picture of the green/gray or pink/white mean anything? I see green/gray by the way.
i use both sides of my brain equally. maybe it has something to do with being ambidextrous. i cant remember if handedness and brain-side usage are connected or not though

Ok. Thanks for the answer! 😁
Our teacher made us watch this. It’s a good video so I came back to watch it again lol.
I am confused. I am very logical but I also spend lots of time creating boxes in my mind and estimating their size

How can I develop both sides of my brain ?
I was going to be left side dominant but hen broke my left wrist as an infant, and I’m now right handed. I don’t know how to interpret this, help!
I can think of pictures and words similarly easily, although some things are imbalanced to one of the 2 sides.
Im a bit more right brained dominant. And.. my right brain is damaged? Because ive always been really angsty and been dealing with depression for five years.
The right brain connects to the left side of the body.
+Sam Black i know thats why i wasnt sure about it
You say when the left brain is damaged you only focus on the larger parts of vision?
And your speech is off?

I *_really_* doubt this left/right brain hemisphere idea is true.
It's more about the lateralization and how certain functions sit more on one side or the other. But you definitely use both sides.
It sounds pretty biological, which isn’t really something you would argue with unless you know that much
It's basically the functions on each side
