That perspective really putted me thinking about my heritage, and as well the wanderings of our cultures. That is why the maps you are doing are so amazing and important. Please continue with your work!
Just one question, will you consider the Nuri and Burushaki as independent language families, or you will classify them as Indo-aryans?
And if I may give suggestion, it would be interesting if you did the history of various language families on a certain region. For example, the Pamir languages, being so varied, are concentrated through a very small territory, and the same could be said about it's Nuri and Dardic neighbours. So, a video about that mountainous region of Asia and it's diverse and unique languages would be very interesting, I think.

I think Avestan is still used as a liturgical/sacred language by the Zoroastrian priests in India. However they are possibly written using Gujarati script, maybe because its from that Gujarat region where the Zoroastrian Parsis and Iranis community came to India after fleeing persecution and at the same time got influenced by local customs.

    • @ariaspes3842
      @ariaspes3842 4 роки тому

@@erfan. Bro, it helps if you study Iran's history. The Arab invasion was debunked and became an insane Islamic invasion, which makes no sense, around 15 years ago when the archaeologists discovered the 2,000 year old underground cities in Iran. Which meant that certain nomads did attacks but no such thing as an conquest as Iranians were able to use the underground cities to get to any point without getting kidnapped or attacked or whatever.
I don't think you fully understand how the empires functioned. First of all, Achaemenid was only one empire, and other empires were Scythian and Alans (Iranian ancestors) and their offsprings, which spoke the first Iranian languages. Most of us in Tehran are either Scythian or Alans or both. But Wikipedia crowd try to say that we are of a different race. Trust me, we are pure Persians if you ever lived or visited Tehran.
Scythians fought in Achaemenid army and VV. Then they would clash over European territories. That shouldn't be confusing if you've ever heard of a son assassinating his father for the crown, and same thing happened within the empires. But by twisting these events Iran's haters have been able to make up a lot of their versions in Wikipedia. For instance Timur's mother was Persian, Azeris were Iranians not Turkish and they can't understand Turkish people, but Iran's haters have made up their own stories, if you look them up. I would stick with JSTOR, which is how I was trained in college. But it's not a good idea to read both because they can clash
Each language served a certain purpose. For instance, for a period of time, Achaemenid-Arabia was struggling with most of the districts due to language. So Aramaic became the Persian Army's language and so the entire region would understand, but not the enemies. Mogul Empire spoke Persian so did Ottomans, so that doesn't mean Persians spoke Mogul, right? Europeans borrow thousands of words from Persian if you look it up
Then the empire was big on religion. Sibawayh the Persian, created the new Arabic that we hear today, so the text could be distributed in one language and Salman the Persian could write the Quran, which was a major instrument in unifying the Arabian population. Then there was a clash with the Jews, so Persians wrote the Torah katehon.com/article/how-persia-created-judaism-persian-and-jewish-religion and then used Aramaic to write the new testament. To you these may seem obsolete but it made it possible to work with 1/2 of the planet. Then Avesta was used to write the Sanskrit, which made a huge impact on Achaemenid working with the Indus valley and the dravidian population. The empires did expand and shrink (thou some people don't agree) but Iran is the only nation without an independence day, which means lots of empire territory might have been lost, but not the current geographical Iran. So this might be a good start but it takes some work to gather all this info

Great video! But the Jassic (Jász) language appeared in Middle Hungary only between 1240-1310 when Alanic refugees take shelter during the Mongol invasion in the Kingdom of Hungary near the middle part of the river Tisza. Their language likely disappeared in the 15th century as Jasses became assimilated to the Hungarians (Magyars), being an ethnographic subgroup of the Hungarians even today (same happened with early Cumans and Uzes, the Palóc and the later Cuman migrants, the Kuns).
Which can be really confusing is that the Jassic people is not the direct descendant of the Iazygs, an archaic western Sarmatian tribe living in modern day Eastern Hungary including the later Jassic settlements, although their names cognate (as well as the name of the Ossetians) - the Iazygs disappeared during the Hunnic era, most probably assimilated to Huns and Gepids, long before the Jassic immigration.

Catacomb Culture (in our ukraine and south russia or then known as sarmatia and scythia) spoke proto-indo-iranic too just a dialect that was a lil closer to thracian, it was same ethnicity\genetics that was in central asia in antiquity speaking the central asian iranic languages (asian scythian, chorasmian, sogdian, margianan, & bactrian) while turanids were only living in 3 places: northeast taklamakan mountains (our Kyrgyzstan), altai mountains, and around baikal lake.
This means that ukrainians and south russians are actually not slavic but are the same as the central asian iranics such as Tajiks, Pamirs, Yaghnobis, but also closely connected to ossetians and pashtuns.

Erm, very strange. If you place Proto-Indo-Iranian in Central Asia, then who lived in the Proto-Indo-European homeland (the steppes from the Dnieper to the Volga) after the dissolution of the family? Also, there is quite definite evidence of Proto-Indo-Iranians or Proto-Iranians in Ural and South Siberia regions, most notably the famous "Country of Towns". There are also Iranian or Indo-Iranian loans in Proto-Uralic. In light of all this, I think the narrow areal of the early Iranian languages is just not right. But in any case, thank you for your work, I really enjoy watching your videos!

What was new to me, was that Kurdish developed from the Median language. I knew it was an Iranian language.
Though when I checked the grammar of 2 dialects of Kurdish, one was Sorani, one Kurmanji, I think one of them must be based on an older language that was not Indo-European, but was changed to Median or Kurdish. I don't remember which it was that had this quite different grammar feature.
I mean I saw one of them (don't remember which) had very non-Indo European sentence structure. Instead of a subject object relationship, they have a system ergative structure. This means like subject-object contrast means like 'He sees them' vs 'They see him'. Here the them or him is a form changed to an object form. Some languages don't use this grammar feature only for the personal pronouns like me, him & them - these languages use this feature for all the possible objects, from birds and bees to papers and paper cuts: they would all get a similar type of ending like him or them, if 'someone sees them'.
Notice also that the verb changes depending on the person seeing something or someone. Most languages mark 6 personal form for the verbs, or around that number. So after theae 6 - I, you (singular - 'Thou'), he/she/it, we, you (plural - 'yawl') and they - the verb would get a different ending (mostly). English marks only he/she/it (sees) - or ot can be 'A bird sees (him)' etc. This is so called 3rd person singular: 3rd, because in a discussion speaker is the 1st person (I, we), and listener the 2nd (you); the outsiders are the 3rd oerson (he, she, they, it, Jack, donkey ...)
This is still very Indo-European, and is also found in many other language groups in the world, like Semitic or Finno-Ugric.
But this one Kurdish language has a so called system ergative structure. So instead of marking the object like in 'He sees them', this language would rather mark the one who does the job with an ending. This is called an ergative ending, coming from the Greek work ergos 'work', which you usually know from ergonomic from what is good for comfort in the job, like a good chair, and a wrist support for the mouse work. This ergative ending would be added to he in where we say 'He sees them', and 'they' would remain in the same form as in 'They sit, they sleep, they fall'. This is the system form, the basic form in this sentence system. So the sentence would be something like 'He(Erg.-form) see(They-form) they'.
Maybe an example of falling a tree is more helpful - I personally got it through that: this is alien grammar to me too. The tree falls all the same, whether it falls by itself, or whether a logger or a beaver fell the tree. So in a system-ergative language the tree remains in the same grammar form - without endings - whether it is like 'The tree falls', or 'A man fells the tree'. They would give the marker, the (ergative) ending for something extra, something new in the basic picture, for the one who does something for the tree - say like 'Tree falls' & 'A man(Erg.) falls(ending points to the tree) tree.
So they see it as the experiencer (experiencee? is always found in a sentence, and gets the verb. Notice in 'He sleeps' there's no object, like *'whom he sleeps' (whom he sleeps WITH is another topic, read it from the tabloids). But there are not necessarily anyone detectable causing something for the experiencer - the tree falls (without wind helping, or a person or animal or...),, the dogs sits. So if the causer appears, THAT is marked with some ending, however small - it may be just an extra m or s etc.
All this grammar talk was to show how unfamiliar thought this is for us Europeans. Well, except the Basques have it. And Basques have some words that are related to Armenian, and some think the Basques may have come from the lands next to Armenia - and so - Kurdish people also. Note: that immigration would have happened long before Romans emerged or likely even before the known Greek history. It would be linked with the farmers form Anatoöia (now Turkey) going West by the Northern coast of the Mediterranean, until Sardinia and the Iberian peninsula (Spain, Portugal now). So who knows if these Kurdish and the Basques would be ditantly related - I'm not claiming that. But that grammar speciality is so rare, so who knows: there may be a link there. Other than this one Kurdish language and Basque, I've heard this grammar feature found only in (some) Australian Aborigine languages.
The other Kurdish language I mentioned has a similar subject-object sentence structure like that English example 'He sees them', found in most European languages, Arabic, my native Finnish (Finno-Ugric language, not related to Indo-European, like English and most European languages). So it seems Sorani and Kurmanji have very different origins, but what I have heard from the Kurdis, they are mostly mutually understandable languages. Which is maybe like the Scots - a language close to English, or some argue a dialect of English or at least Anglo-Saxon - versus RP English. It has some Celtic loans, maybe even in the structure. But so does English, although less, and from a different Celtic background. So nore that Scots there is not a Celtic language, but either related to English, or its dialect - depends on the interpretation - AND it's nort even English spoken with a Scottish accent. That's an English dialect, whereas Scots has been around since the Anglo-Saxons landed on Britain. It's what survived from the Northumbrian dialect of the Anglo-Saxon - always separate, but in contact with English. The Celtic language in Scotland is Gaelic, which has its roots in Ireland, it's still close to Irish Gaelic.
