This project was definitely an ambitious challenge, so I'm that much more proud (and relieved) to see it completed. Hoping to make more webtoon/animatic-style videos like this in the future to even more gorgeous songs like this.

Screenshots truly did not do this video justice. I saw snippets of aesthetics and gorgeous shots as you worked on this video and asked for visual suggestions on what was, more often than not, already a _perfect_ still - you wittle talented perfectionist. But I am absolutely, positively, undeniably BLOWN AWAY seeing everything in motion, with smooth BEAUTIFUL transitions accompanied by your vocals to the snazzy beat. Every piece slotted into place, every cog clicked together so seamlessly - your art, your animation, your mix, your vocals. So much talent and creativity in one person (queen, goddess, SUPREME ALPHA BEING) and I have so many feelings for this masterpiece so ARE YOU READY RAF HERE WE GOOOOO-
Let's start with your voice. FFFFFFF your voice in this song just hits all the right notes (:D) for me. That first whispered VA line sent tingles up and down my spine, and then you followed that up with adlibs that built up more anticipation, and then your first breathy line just hit me like a ton of bricks and I was like "I'M IN LOVE I'M LOOPING THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE." For the rest of the song I was just absorbed in your chocolate smooth voice combined with the jazzy smooth instrumental like HRNNGH. IF A VOICE COULD STEP ON ME I WOULD WANT IT TO BE YOUR VOICE (but since it can't please step on me in person. Pls. I am laid on the ground for your steppage.) I rarely get to hear you sing in Korean and this is a treat, an absolute SNACC, AN ENTIRE MEAL THAT I AM HAPPILY DEVOURING AND BOPPING TO. This is the cake I wanted for my birthday, and I am enjoying every delicious slice and sound of it. Your adlibs bring a new depth to this song that truly takes it over the top, and the way you go from breathy seductive vibes (seduce me mawmi) in the beginning to powerful queen vibes (top me mawmi) at the chorus and back again has me in GOOSEBUMPS like what a true variety of eargasms. And I really really love the way you revised the end too, what a strong adlib of a line that really ends the song beautifully - along with that very last "Ah~" at the end. AhhhhhhhHHHHH. That is going haunt me, echo in my ears, as delicate as the bell chime that accompanied it and such a perfect last topping to this hauntingly gorgeous cover.
Visuals wise- the minute I saw that clock spin and click into place and with the chime I knew I was in trouble. So smooth, so satisfying, and such foreshadowing for the perfection of the rest of the video. And oh lord. Oh looooordddddie lord this art I just- I can't- who am I- what am I- HOW AM I?? I am blown away, mesmerized by each drawn character and their different poses. There is SO MUCH ART in this video and hello 911, yes I would like to report a crime, and that crime is that this isn't a webtoon because I needed this webtoon like YESTERDAY. (my favorite is still that waltz scene at 2:24 like I will salivate over this anatomy and how the image flows for the rest of my days) And oh lordie that scene at 1:56 where Godmother is delicately putting on Cinderlyra's shoe, and then clutching it at 2:01 with those SMOLDERING EYES

@@RafScrap Okay! So I know this was months ago, but I have this theory and I really want to ask about it. Was this inspired by the story of Cinderella? Some of the iconography - the pumpkins, the mice, the clock - remind me a LOT of the story, except to me, this reads like Cinderella's "Prince Charming" isn't as nice as it seems. Hence her taking revenge.
Maybe I'm reading too deep into it, but I've had this theory for MONTHS, and I just have to ask.

whenever i heard "i'm a villain" in this cover, i really felt it. most of these covers were good too to be honest, but no matter what, i love this one the most. the art is beautiful, and the voice just sounds- damn. that's how i tried singing the korean version (totally without failing)

I do not know Korean at all, but this song was an absolute bop and sounded like it was just made for you and your sultry voice. I love the premise of the story (not knowing the actual storyline of the actual song, haha) AND EVERYTHING FLOWED SO FLAWLESSLY AND ASDFGHJKL I'm foaming at the mouth. Villain is one of my favorite song ever and you made it even cooler. I am as always so amazed at your mind and creavity!! I can't healp but notice at how much you improve on each of your upload, visually they were already stunning but I feel like you managed to improve and go above and beyond at each upload without keeping your so mesmerizing style. I also really cannot stop admiring how cool your imagery is! You always bring out references and symbolism in your video and artwork and I love it cause it makes me really feel like we can connect even more with your video cause we (the public) share the same references as you. Also your singing and mixing ?? STUNNING. This is BEYOND SPECTACULAR on so many levels!!!
But…I’m honestly wondering why I’m not seeing more comments speculating and theorizing on the storyline portrayed here. One of the reasons I always love Raf’s videos is she always seems to portray fabulously deep and interesting twists on well-known stories. But they’re *so* deep and twisty I often feel like I don’t fully get what’s going on. I’d love to hear more people’s theories on the actual storyline.
I can’t tell if the bloody, dark world is a) happening in real time, b) memories of the past, c) premonitions of the future (perhaps the “villain” telling Cinderella about her premonitions, or else predictions), d) possibilities they’re discussing shown in images, or e) an alternate universe where cinderella is the villain. (Like sort of Fran Bow esque where she keeps seeing this alternate universe). (I’m leaning most towards a) or c) but I really don’t know).
It seems to me like, whatever it is, in those bloody images, Cinderella kills someone with the clock hand. It’s possible she gouges out the “villain’s” eye with a clock hand. It’s kinda hard to tell though, because it seems like her eye is already gone at the start of the story, as per it being on the table, and her eye being covered and stuff (sometimes its hard to tell if it’s gone or not because her hair’s in the way...but that’s probably the point). Maybe Cinderella gouged it out a long time ago and that’s why the “villain” sees her as the villain? Or maybe the eye has nothing to do with Cinderella’s villainy, and she did something else with the bloody clock hand. But the eye is clearly important as it’s one of the strongest images throughout. I can’t tell if, at the end of the video, we’re a) at a time in the past when her eye was still there, and it was red and creepy (and maybe that’s why Cinderella gouged it out, like a Tell Tale Heart sorta thing), b) her eye is somehow still there…even though it’s also on the table, c) she was given a demon eye, perhaps by making a demon contract herself, d) or else it’s kinda the anime thing where the eye is gone but the hole shines red creepily, or e) it was recently gouged out in the scene, but the bloody socket was drawn to look like the eye. There are some shots of blood on her face too. …It’s just really hard to tell the time frame of everything.
...Or maybe the eye isn’t even the “villain’s.” But if not, whose would it be?
There are many shots of Cinderella with a bloody handprint on her ankle, missing a shoe, and she’s holding a bloody clock hand. I think understanding this is key to understanding this take on the story.
I can definitely tell it’s a dark take on her losing her shoe, but I don’t know exactly what happened there.
At first I thought someone tried to do something bad to her, grabbing her ankle, but there’s a brief shot of someone with their hand on her ankle looking really anguished. I have no clue who this person is. Are they the “villain”? The prince? I…I have no idea. But it feels important because it feels like that’s the actual scene where she loses it. Did Cinderella kill that person? If so, why? They didn’t look evil themselves…Why were they in anguish? Was their hand covered in bloody? Or were they pressing so hard into Cinderella's leg they made a mark?
People were saying in other comments that they think the “villain” character is an evil fairy godmother, perhaps a demon she summoned. I do love the idea, and I do think the wings, and the magic in her hand at the end fit this well. There are shots of the carriage turning into a pumpkin that fit this as well. And then at the end it’s possible she’s the godmother giving her the slipper before the ball.
I just don’t understand why the fairy godmother, even a demon version of her, would start off saying that she’s the villain? I guess maybe she would be trying to get cinderella to think carefully about whether she wants to do this, because maybe she’ll kill someone at the ball? But why would the fairy godmother kill? Steal her soul maybe? I dunno. But also why would she play chess and dance with her?
Honestly my first thought was that she was the prince character. Her outfit looked kinda princely to me at first, there are swords behind her (which is a far more princely image than it is fairy-godmother-y), it seems like they’re at the castle, they play chess, and *dance* together. There’s also the words “The Waltz of Love” shown in French behind them at one point. Those things fit the prince, but not so much the fairy godmother. And then at the end the prince is maybe giving her back her shoe after it fell off.
I like the idea of the prince being the villain. It feels very Into the Woods to me. I’ve also seen a twisted fairy tale prompt about Cinderella being sent to the ball to kill the prince, which I think fits this telling as well. I do think it could work for her to go to the ball and kill the prince instead of marry him in this storyline.
But the other option, and the one I honestly think makes the most sense, is the evil stepmother. She’s the true villain of the Cinderella story. It makes sense that they would play chess together in their own house. It makes sense that the evil stepmother would have a conversation with her about “I’m the villain. Sure, yes. I know that’s what you think of me at least. But what if *you*’re actually the villain?” That honestly feels like a sort of conversation they could have in other versions of the story too.
The mouse part is interesting too. At first I thought the “villain” killed Cinderella’s beloved mouse friend, but there’s a shot of her lovingly holding it, which makes me wonder if it was the other way around. Unless of course the “villain” was teasing the mouse before killing it. But her loving look seemed sincere. The “villain” being friends with the mouse doesn’t really make sense to me if she’s the godmother (maybe it’s before she turns it into a horse?), or prince…but it does if she’s the stepmother. Because I think that’s an interesting twist-we think she doesn’t care about little animals, but actually the mouse was *her* friend and cinderella was the one who killed it. I don’t know what bearing the mouse has on the larger plot though. (It was killed by a needle, not a clock hand. I assume this relates to the mice helping Cinderella create her dress in the original).
The interpretation of the story I think makes the most sense is that, in this version, the stepmother keeps her from the ball, but also doesn’t go herself. Instead they play chess, and discuss topics of villainy, and dance together themselves. Because of course Cinderella is going “You’re a villain” if the stepmother truly kept her from the ball at this time. And it's a great opportunity to discuss the nature of their relationship. And it makes sense as the tipping point between them.
And then, at the end of the night, before midnight (when she was supposed to be at/leave the ball) Cinderella has had enough, she grabs the clock hand and either gouges out the eye of, or else kills, the evil stepmother.
(There’s a part that says “Dreams that rot in the carcass of a pumpkin” on screen. I think this fits the idea that the stepmother kept her from the ball, so the pumpkin rotted instead of becoming the carriage, as did her dreams of going to the ball).
The timing of the clockhand kinda throws me though. Because she rips it off *before* midnight. I don’t think my theory above is a bad one, but I feel like that imagery fits a bit better if she is basically trying to stay with the prince, to stop time, to stop midnight from coming. If the clock never chimes, then the spells never break. Right?
Edit: just rewatched it and found some more merit to the godmother idea.
The shoe is *already* bloody when the “villain” puts it on her.
It’s possible this takes place *after* the ball. Cinderella had some bad experience there, had to kill someone with the clock hand. She came back to accuse the godmother of being a villain, and the conversation proceeds from there. At the end she reveals she’s not a fairy but a demon.
I don’t know if this truly fits or makes any sense at all. Usually with these types of videos, once I read someone else’s theory it feels so much more accurate, and very different from what I thought. But I just love this video so much and I am desperate for answers on the actual storyline here XD
I absolutely love the visuals I see, and honestly any of these, and other interpretations would be amazing. I love twists on fairy tales, especially dark ones, and just seeing the image Cinderalla with a bloody clock hand and ankle alone is absolute chef’s kiss for me.

I love how dramatic those vocals turned out to be. You have a voice made for broadway!! The way you put emphasis on some words and add you own color and vibratos in really made a unique color. I also loved the whispering parts, they were very soft. You have such a wide range, I'm captivated! We can hear that you had fun during the recording!
