well, I have a Sphynx cat who has had diarrhea for a year, we have paid thousands of dollars in testing and stopped short of exploratory surgery. The vet talked to a GI specialist at Texas A&M who said 'put him on a raw diet immediately'. So we did. He took to it right away, has been on it for almost 2 weeks. Within 24 hours, he was having normal BM's and it's been that way since.
I would like to get my other two cats and my dog on raw. I don't want to have to make my own, but premade frozen for a German Shepherd is kind of expensive. I believe diet is important for their health and the kibble and so called vet approved diets are horrible.

I have a similar story. My cat had chronic diarrhea, and every poop had blood in it. My vet told me he just needed some probiotics so I started supplementing FortiFlora. That didn’t work. He was still pooping blood. I put him on a raw diet. From day one there was no more blood or diarrhea. I switched my other two cats and now there’s no smell in the litter box. I’m working on switching my bichon frise now because he likes to sample the cats raw food.

  • @meganklein6993

B-I-A-S-E-D!!! They are carnivores - they require moderate fat, low carb, high moisture and high protein diets. My dogs mean everything to me, and while I respect my veterinarian's concerns, I have made the informed decision to feed them a raw food diet.
Here's why: I've been feeding my animals raw for years and since then, they have developed silky smooth coats, have absolutely no skin issues, no BM troubles, more than enough energy, their teeth are in great condition, and they maintain a perfect weight. The vet even comments on how healthy they are when I bring them in for their annual wellness checks! Still, when they ask me if I'm still feeding them raw food (and I always say yes) I get the same head shake and look of disapproval. They've told me feeding raw is unsafe because of potential food-borne illnesses - but I only feed them things I would feed myself - quality meat and fresh fruits and vegetables. Then, the vet tells me that the issue is malnutrition - they need the added nutrients that are in kibble. So, okay, I'll supplement with salmon oil, etc. That way they get healthy fats, proteins and other nutrients but still without the corn, wheat, and other unnecessary ingredients. BUT, then the issue becomes that I'm potentially passing pathogens to young children by feeding my dogs raw food. Well, I don't have young children, I don't share a yard with young children, and I pick up my dog's poop after they've gone. There is no reasonable opportunity for cross-contamination between my dogs and a child. So, okay. Just to be safe, I'll boil some water over the food to kill whatever bacteria is on the surface of the meat. This is apparently still not good enough, and every time, they bring me to the same wall of "prescribed canine diets" to try and guilt me into buying one of their products. I respect that she disagrees with my decision to feed my dogs raw, and I've taken all of her criticisms to minimize the risks of feeding raw, but it is never good enough. After every visit, she still highlights their raw diet as an "active concern" on their health record. And yet, I have two healthy, highly active, beautiful border collies who LOVE meal time and have had no health issues whatsoever. Maybe it's time we consider the possibility that there is more to our pet's nutritional needs.

I wonder what cats and dogs ate before processed pet food came along in the last 150 years? Although convenient for pet owners, pre-made processed kibbled pet food is not necessary in the same way that a Big Mac is not necessary for me. There are better ways to eat. I have an indoor/outdoor cat who regularly eats bunnies, birds, mice and squirrels when he is outdoors playing. I do not make him eat those food. I didn't give him a pamphlet on the benefits or dangers of a raw diet. He does it on his own because it is part of his natural instincts to do this. Now, I'm not saying it would be impossible for him to get sick from this or to get parasites.Disease and parasites are part of nature too. Nothing lives forever. If he got sick I would take him to the vet and care for him the best I could. I think people have lost touch with nature and have forgotten how to live without the latest science study ( which change all the time by the way). We need to use common sense. Ok, sorry for the rant! lol

A Rena T I think these websites have overpriced raw food. I’d rather make it myself. I don’t just feed raw I also cook their meals at home and freeze it. I have a golden a German shepherd so it gets expensive to feed them they’re both big but feeding them raw and cooked food at home really shows. They get compliments everywhere I go because of their shiny coats!! and they’re also super healthy I take them to get blood tests at least once a year to make sure that everything is balanced. I’ve had my golden longer than my shepherd and fed her kibble when I first got her (she was my first dog) and she kept getting kidney stones and her fur wasn’t really pretty. Then I switched her to raw and cooked food and she’s the healthiest she’s ever been. When we got the shepherd I never really fed her kibble. Immediately started her out with raw and cooked. NEVER processed crappy food.

Dogs and cats CAN eat raw, as their ancestors have been eating it since the dawn of time. Wolves, tigers, lions and other relatives to our house pets aren't eating kibble from Wal-Mart, and neither should your cat or dog. My dog does eat kibble, yes, but if I could I would probably switch her to a raw diet. I remember a few years back that many pet foods were recalled off of shelves for the exact reason of killing pets. I'm not a professional, but if I'm correct, all of the information above is true (not in this video), I wonder what pet food brand paid you for this.

Before raw the 3 year old male had dirty teeth and a small cyst on his ear that refused to go and and the now 1 year old female my family adopted 6 months ago always had a upset stomach and kept having accidents in the house. Now on raw the boy has white shiny teeth and the small cyst as disappeared and the girl is completely house broken and no more runny poop. Actually there is a whole argument to be said. First, wild cats don't live long to their condition and sometimes the weight and diet from raw meat as it can lead to disease and many more and also affect their body sometimes lile overweight wich leads to a non healthy life. Second, over the years people have breed cats and dogs over so many times that the DNA has changed A LOT and that is big as their system developes diffrent ways as they get used to the food we get from stores and other things as such. It's like humans evolving and getting used to cooked food abd the stuff that we eat that we forgot about raw and our system kicked it out as we didn't need it so that's why we get sick if we eat raw food. Same concept.

Yup! Follow the money! What little nutritional info vets learn in school is all paid for by the dog food companies. You’d think the VETS would see this ridiculously obvious correlation.
I’ve recently found a vet that is willing to work with you vs demonizing you regarding raw food. There’s more to a raw diet than tossing them a steak, but that’s the kind of person they’re worried about. I get that. There are a lot of idiots that would do just that and then call their vet a Karen for berating them. When someone has done the research and knows what they’re doing they should be respected. Maybe the vet could learn something too.

@@capeverdeanprincess4444 yes they would be. They know virtually nothing about nutrition for pets. They’re vets NOT pet nutritionalists. What they do ‘know’ about nutrition they learned from the kibble companies while in vet school. They’ve had fear of anything that isn’t kibble shoved so far down their throats they think everything else is a literal sin. It’s sad that they can’t see the correlation between the standardization of kibble and the blatant rise of cancer and other health issues.
As far as cooking vs raw, when was the last time you saw a wolf or coyote snag someone’s grill from their backyard to cook up their latest kill? They don’t do that because they’re designed to eat it raw. Dogs, wolves, and coyotes look different on the outside, but internally they’re the same.
Raw is best. It’s real food that their body actually knows what to do with.

A balanced diet (raw especially) is very important! the other vets in the office do not like that I am feeding raw, because they are not making money from me... less frequent vet visits, (once a year for shots as I live in the country and have a couple hunting dogs) if someone is going to feed raw its not as simple as throwing a steak and watching them chow. It is a little more complicated than that. But once the change is made, it's a LIFETIME commitment (because they will no longer want to eat the dog food and may feel ill. with that being said I am not a vet. There are just too many variable as to why these cats died to conclude that a raw diet is unsafe. I feed my cat raw since they were 7 weeks old and they are now 3 years old.
Basically they eat the proteins that i buy for myself except i do not cook their proteins and add other foos groups to ensure a balanced diet.
They are in good health. They are muscular and have a shiny coat.
They also have good dental health.
    No periodontitis or bad breath.
In the 3 years ive fed them raw, they have not even had 1 episode of gastroenteritis or food poisoning.
#On the 1st day i had my cats, i had a talk w my vet abt what to feed them and i was told i can choose to gv a 100% kibble diet if i wished. Im glad that I used common sense and not follow this bad advice.
    # what made me feed my cats raw?
I adopted my kittens at 5 weeks old.2 weeks later they develop diarrhoea and 1 of them almost did not make it.
I felt really desperate and decided to do my own research about feline nutririon.
As a paediatric doctor, I know how important the right nutrients are for the developing child. We emphasize so much on exclusive breast feeding for babies to give them a good start not only in terms of nutrients but also for developing a strong immune function. I felt that that it must be the same for animals as well.
Based on the information i gathered as well using old fashion common sense, I decided to go raw for them.
Ever since then I have never regretted my decision and their good health is the proof that raw feeding done right, is the key to good health and preventing many types of diseases tht is endemic in cats today.
Tbh, vets like doctors are not specifically trained in nutrition. This is true for every medical school in the world.
A focused study on nutrition is only found in certain subspecialties of medicine like paediatrics, gastrology etc.
From a doctor myself, I would like to caution others not to be fooled into thinking that your Dr or your vet would necessarily know what is the best type of diet for you or your pet unless they have undergone extra specialised training regarding diet and nutrition apart from their basic medical degree.

Of course studies don't support raw food diets ! What company would spend money on studying the benefits of a raw food diet ? Nobody would benefit from the results of such a study, Especially not the leaders on the pet food market (who finance and release the only studies that are made on pet food) ! If everyone would feed their pets raw food diets they would go bankrupt ! They want people to keep believing that they are unable te feed their pets an appropriate diet on their own (and vets like you are good little soldiers for those companies), that it's dangerous and that they have to feed them pet food, the only appropriate and safe food !
And yes we have no scientific evidence on the beneficial effects of a life long organic diet in dogs and cats but many studies prove the harmful effects of pesticides and insecticides on health so it's pretty clear to me that an organic diet is much less poisonous...

Each time I've taken her in for follow-ups, say once every six weeks, her lungs are still clear. He has shaken his head in wonder and said "Just keep doing whatever you're doing." Where she was coughing so much it terrified me, now she might give a little hack once, maybe twice a day. She has more energy, can play without sounding like she's hacking up a lung. I'm very careful and only feed her high quality food that I get from a local doggy health food store.

Hi Dreamwave Studios! You're right on point! Cooking provides the perceived benefit and minimizes the risk. Some proteins are more digestible if they're cooked, like albumin (the white part of the egg). Some use filler as a derogatory term (meaning "poor quality useless stuff") to refer to carbs. (such as cereals). Yes, dogs, cats and people could live without eating carbs. It's perceived as a "cheap" way to provide energy. But cereals do provide energy, vitamins, minerals, and some protein. :-)

Remember that feeding raw requires a TON OF RESEARCH. You should always look up multiple recipes for raw food and take from the ingredients depending on your dogs needs, and nutritional requirement. Meat, liver, bone, sardines/cod liver oil, a dog safe fruit, a dog safe vegetable, and kelp are the things you should build off of in your dogs diet. Does your dog need intestinal support? Add pumpkin, cranberries, or a high-quality dog probiotic. Does your dog have arthritis? Try golden paste (turmeric, ginger root powder, water, and a bit of black pepper to increase the bioavailability of the ingredients). I could go on forever, but the point is research is KEY to a raw diet. If you get sick from the food you are feeding your dog, it’s your fault. Use an OraPup after feeding your dog to get rid of bacteria on their tongue. When preparing raw food, put on latex gloves so that you won’t get sick from the raw meat. To be extra safe, put on a surgical mask. Wipe down the area that you prepared the food on with wipes that are antibacterial and anti-fungal.

Vets don't recommend raw because they don't benefit from it. Ie they sell foods in their practices. Also they are medically trained not nutritionally trained. Iraq food is far better than commercial dog food. Salmonella is carried by most dogs naturally as their ph levels are more acidic this is not a problem to them.

i mean what he is saying is true, I've looked through a lot of science articles on this topic. And benefits haven't been proven, while there are risks involved. I don't know as much as the raw food argument seems logical to me, not everything is always as iappears on the surface. Getting into vetrinary school is as hard as getting into people medical school and these people have spent years studying the inner workings of your pets. I don't know if I am more qualified than a vet to acess this situation, but I will keep looking into it with that understanding.

A raw food diet is only dangerous, if it’s not done correctly and sanitary precautions aren’t followed.
I don’t need any studies showing me how good/bad the raw diet is. I see the health benefits in my own two dogs, who were previously fed kibble.

You do need studies you also don't know the long term effects it has in the future... A few months or a few years from now it can seriously cause problems and they'll get sick and die.

So, you mean processed food is better for our pets.
I don't get it. Sometimes I think vets recommend processed food just to make our pets sick so that we can visit them often. Just my opinion. I have seen pets who are healthier just because they're fed natural food instead of this cheap processed option that we get in the pet store.

siscassie1 The idea that kibble is good for the animals is ridiculous. The FIRST processed kibble foods were about a hundred years ago. Now unless you think dogs just came about in that short time span you'll realize, that they've ALWAYS eaten raw foods. All dogs share 99.8% or more of their DNA with wolves. Meaning that the biological needs (diet), pack mentality, etc. are still the same. Please do some research before you say things, it'll save you from placing your foot in your mouth. And lets people that understand how things work save time by not having to explain things over and over again. ;)

He’s was probably forced to say what he said in the video. Dogs are made to eat raw meat (I personally would slightly cook the meat to kill the bacteria). Dogs weren’t meant to eat “dog food”. When they were put on this earth did they have little highly processed pebbles? Nope. Honestly all the shit we eat on daily basis is terrible for us. Companies just try to make a profit

Iv seen lots of animals i.e dogs thrive on raw foods. If they look good and are doing great on raw food and are healthy then studies don't matter much. Studies are generally against the raw food diet when so many animals clearly are thriving on it. Just something else to disagree with and say no to.

  • @livingwithchallenges
    @livingwithchallenges 3 роки тому +4

Of course you would say that its bad because your Taught in vet school an out dated way of thinking. Kibble started getting fed to dogs in the 1800s when we didn't know what we know now about what we feed are animals. Kibble is full of carbs which dogs don't need they need very little carbs and high fat and protein its how there bodies work. If processed food isn't good for humans its not good for any other animal or reptile so we need to stop feeding high card low protein and fat diets and feed them what they bodies need. If the owners control whats getting put in there dogs food there will be less cases of dogs getting euthanasia drugs in there food and getting killed. yes feeding raw can give your dog salmonella but there digestive system is built to deal with it. Sure if someone feeds raw to a dog with a undiagnosed illness that makes there system unable to deal with the bacteria they will have to go to the vet the amount of dogs that actually get bad enough are about 3% of dogs both on kibble and raw diet so there's no reason that dogs should be eating poison in kibble when they can be eating raw food and avoiding there food putting them down.
